After his evening prayers, Mohammad Shahzadah closed the house gates and sat down for dinner. Then the blast came, engulfing the sky in flames and sending tremors through the ground.
"The earth felt like a boat in a storm," Shahzadah said. "I thought my house was being bombed. Last year a drone strike targeted a house next to mine, but this time it felt like the heavens were falling. The children and women were very scared." Look on the bright side, Mo. The bomb was dropped in the mountains close to Moman village in an area called Asadkhel. About 1.5 miles away, in Shaddle Bazar where Shahzadah lives, the impact was palpable.
"My ears were deaf for a while. My windows and doors are broken. There are cracks in the walls," he said. Don't worry -- the Delta Force Claim Adjustment Detachment will be there around 4 AM.
The following morning around 9am, fighter jets strafed the area, a local police commander, Baaz Jan, said.
"We don't know who was killed yesterday or this morning. But there is confusion and fear in the radio chats we are intercepting. There is limited communication among Isis fighters," he said. Fighter 1: "Ouchies."
Fighter 2: "Humminahumminahummina."
Fighter 3: "Holy Shit!"

Some observers, however, questioned the necessity of deploying a weapon of that scale against a group whose estimated 600 to 800 fighters pose only a limited threat to the Afghan state. Outstanding. Update at 12:15 p.m. EDT: CNN reports that Afghan officials say 36 ISIS fighters died, while Al Ahram reports that ISIS says no one was killed at all. It seems to me this kind of thing, widely reported as it has been, will make Afghanistan less attractive to ISIS fighters looking for their next battlefield after Iraq/Syria.

Another Achin resident, Mohammad Hakim, voiced his approval for the strike, saying “We are very happy and these kinds of bombs should be used in future as well, so Daesh is rooted out from here,” using the Arabic acronym for the Islamic State group.
“They killed our women, youths and elders sitting them on mines. We also ask the Kabul government to use even stronger weapons against them,” Hakim added.
The U.S. estimates 600 to 800 IS fighters are present in Afghanistan, mostly in Nangarhar. The U.S. has concentrated heavily on combatting them while also supporting Afghan forces battling the Taliban. President Donald Trump called Thursday’s operation a “very, very successful mission.”
“I want a hundred times more bombings on this group,” said Hakim Khan, 50, a resident of Achin district, the site of the blast.
Inamullah Meyakhil, spokesman for the central hospital in eastern Nangarhar province, said the facility had received no dead or wounded from the attack.
District Gov. Ismail Shinwari said there is no civilian property near the airstrike location.
There was no immediate comment from the Islamic State group on the attack.

Such an explosion has a much greater effect in a valley area rather than flat terrain. The mountains around offer little escape for the blast causing considerable compression.

I heard a report on NPR on the subject as I drove between hither and yon earlier today: they quoted an Afghan official as saying not only were 36 ISIS fighters killed, but no civilians whatsoever.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) in a statement said the factories were destroyed during a special military operation conducted late on Tuesday night in the vicinity of Ghani Khel district.
The statement further added that the Afghan forces also discovered 7,500 kgs of morphine, 810 kgs of ammonium chloride, 500 liters of liquid opium, and some other types of chemicals and equipment used to produce heroin.
The chemicals and equipment were all destroyed on the spot, the Ministry of Interior added.
This comes as the Afghan forces are busy conducting operations to eradicate the fields from poppy cultivation as there has been a sharp rise in opium cultivation, production and smuggling across the country during the recent months.
According to the last survey report, there has been a 43 per cent rise in opium cultivation in Afghanistan.

It is the fourth time since 2011 it has happened, the last time being just eight weeks ago.
The reasons are as yet unknown. Some locals have accused Haithem Tajouri ...Commander of the pro-(Islamist) government First Support Brigade... ’s Tripoli Revolutionaries Brigade of setting alight the building which once housed Qadaffy’s General People’s Congress. Others have accused the Mobile Forces which supports Khalifa Ghwell and is firmly opposed to Tajouri.
Yet others give a more prosaic explanation. They point out that the building, taken over by Tajouri just over a year ago, was then abandoned and is used by gangs as a drinking and drugs den. Now full of rubbish, it has been the scene of frequent fights.
It is suggested these fights may the real cause for the latest blaze.

[Libya Herald] The Libyan National Army (LNA) has resumed its aerial assault of the Third Force-held Tamenhint airbase, north-east of Sebha. There was an attack yesterday and locals in Sebha today told the Libya Herald that they again heard aircraft over the town heading toward the base.
In what is said to have been a reprisal, Misratan forces late last night were reported to have attacked the LNA-controlled airbase in Brak al-Shatti with Soviet-era aircraft, killing five.
Yesterday, there were also reports that a unit belong to the Mohammed Ben Nayel’s 12th Brigade, part of the Libyan National Army, had surrounded the village of Samnu, east of Tamenhint, which Misrata’s Third Force said it recaptured on Monday. At the time, the Presidency Council’s defence ministry the front man, Mohammed al-Ghasri, said that Nayel’s men had been "forced to flee to the mountains".
The latest Samnu siege followed allegations that the Third Force had killed four young Salafist supporters of the LNA at a checkpoint near the village. All are said to have been from the same family.
Forces under the control of Ben Nayel now controls much of the south. One Sehba resident who travelled from Tripoli ...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Ali Kana, a prominent military figure in the region who leads a pro-Qadaffy Tuareg force, has demanded an end to fighting throughout Fezzan. He called for an immediate ceasefire, asking officials and tribal figures to facilitate it.
He previously attempted to set up a ’Fezzan Army’, but this was brushed aside by Ben Nayel.
Kana now says he supports the National Dialogue and insistes his forces will work with any army operating under a unified politicianship accepted by the Libyan people.

[Libya Observer] 147 African immigrants colonists have drowned after their inflatable boat capsized off Libya’s western shores on Thursday, Libyan Coast Guard has reported.
The Coast Guard said the victims included 77 men, 55 women and 15 children.
"23 immigrants colonists were rescued and provided with medical care," it added. The tragedy happened 17 miles off Tripoli ...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. [AlAhram] Egypt’s Ministry of Interior identified in a statement on Thursday Mamdouh Mohammed Baghdadi as the jacket wallah responsible for Sunday’s attack on Tanta’s Mar Girgis Cathedral that killed 29 people.
The ministry said that Baghdadi, who is from Upper Egypt’s Qena, was identified using CCTV footage and DNA testing.
Baghdadi was a member of a terrorist cell led by a runaway bully boy named Amr Saad Abbas, who also trained the suicide bomber who attacked Alexandria’s St. Mark’s Cathedral on the same day of the Tanta bombing, according to the statement.
The ministry said that Abbas also orchestrated the December bombing of Cairo's St Peter and St Paul's Church, which killed 29 worshipers, mostly women and kiddies.
The ministry also raised a reward from EGP 100,000 to EGP 500,000 for information on 19 individuals it identified a day earlier who are suspected of involvement in the two church bombings.
The ministry’s statement added that Baghdadi was also involved in an attack in January on a police checkpoint in the New Valley that killed eight coppers.
At the time, authorities attributed the New Valley attack to 12 forces of Evil from Sinai-based bully boy group Ansar Beit al-Maqdis.
The interior ministry’s Thursday statement also said that three people involved in terrorism-related crimes have been jugged Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please! in Qena, without elaborating.

The ministry said in a statement Thursday that the suspects were rounded up in police operations in 21 provinces late on Wednesday.
The operations came a day after the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, claimed an attack against a cop shoppe in the southeastern city of Diyarbakir, which was carried out with a ton of explosives planted inside a tunnel dug by rebels.

Alsumaria News quoted sources at the western side of Mosul saying the group shut down blood banks and medical stores near Mesherfa region. "ISIS (Islamic State) gangs arrested a number of workers at those stores and drove them to unknown destinations after they refused to provide enough blood and medicine to their maimed members," according to the source.
Earlier reports a few weeks ago said IS had set fire to some blood banks in the western region, with some locals and security officials saying the tactic aimed to create smoke screens and blur vision for fighter jets pounding their locations.

Iraqi government forces, backed by the coalition and paramilitary groups, recaptured eastern Mosul in January, and launched another offensive in February to retake the western region. Iraqi commanders said earlier this week that IS hard boyz were in control over less than seven percent of Iraqi territory.

JOC’s spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Yahia Rasoul, said in a press statement that only 40 percent of districts in western Mosul await liberation. He again reiterated the difficulty of battles targeting the IS-held Old City.
"Troops are advancing accurately and cautiously in Old Mosul due to its geographical nature and its dense population. Our main goal is to liberate human before territory," he stated.
"The narrowness of alleyways in Old Mosul prevents the use of armored vehicles, hence the on-foot advances. Snipers are being used to locate holy warriors and keep them away from civilians," according to Rasoul.

A woman killed after being stabbed in a terror attack on the Jerusalem light rail Friday, Magen David Adom reported.
The woman, about 25 years old, suffered multiple stab wounds to her upper body and was transferred to Hadassah University Medical Center in Jerusalem for treatment before succumbing to her wounds.
According to Israel Police, the woman is reportedly a student tourist from Britain.

The IDF returned to Silwad in the West Bank, the hometown of a Paleostinian man who killed a soldier last week, seizing alleged "terror funds" and stolen cars early Thursday morning, the army said.
According to the military, some NIS 85,000 ($23,000) was confiscated in the overnight operation in the Paleostinian town outside Ramallah. Three stolen cars were also seized, the army said.
The IDF carried out a similar operation in Silwad last week.
It is "part of the ’concept of expanded prevention’ for taking action against all the circles of support for the terrorist and his family," the army said in a statement.
In Sanur, southwest of Jenin, the army uncovered an improvised, Carlo-style submachine gun, the army said.
This year, over 100 guns have been confiscated by the IDF, as part of its crackdown on the illegal weapons trade.

Border Police and IDF forces on Monday locked away Book 'im, Mahmoud! a Paleostinian man armed with a knife and a stun grenade who tried to cross from the West Bank into Jerusalem on the eve of the Passover festival, police said in a statement Thursday.
During the holidays routine paperwork isn't as high a priority.
The suspect, a resident of Qalandiya village in his twenties, was stopped by security forces as he approached the nearby Qalandiya checkpoint, a major crossing point from the West Bank located north of Jerusalem.
A search of his person uncovered the weapons.
The checkpoint has seen a series of security incidents over the past year.
"During an initial investigation, Border Police discovered he apparently intended to carry out an attack," the statement said.

Tens of thousands of people were expected to visit Jerusalem and its Old City during the week-long Passover festival, which began on Monday night. Ahead of the holiday police announced increased deployment of forces as a precaution against attacks since Jewish festivals are favored times for attacks by terror groups.

[AnNahar] A local Paleostinian security force deployed across southern Leb's Ein el-Hellhole Paleostinian refugee camp on Thursday, a commander said, ending a week of sporadic festivities with an Death Eater group.
The fighting, which left nine dead and more than 50 maimed, had prompted many to flee their homes and forced schools and shops in and around the camp to close.
The commander, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the local security force, which includes 100 fighters from several Paleostinian factions, was able to deploy throughout the camp after a ceasefire late Wednesday night.
The Lebanese army does not enter the camp by long-standing convention.
"Security forces deployed in the al-Tiri neighborhood, which had been the focal point of the festivities," the commander said.
He added that "extremist Islamist groups" had withdrawn from some areas to avoid further festivities.
Fighting erupted late Friday after Paleostinian factions deployed throughout Ein el-Hellhole as part of an operation aimed at combating the influence of a local Islamist group linked to Bilal Badr, a wanted Lion of Islam.
The commander said Badr had refused to give himself up to Paleostinian security forces to be handed over to the Lebanese authorities.
Badr is wanted on suspicion of "terrorism", firearms offenses and belonging to an gang, according to a Lebanese security official.
An AFP correspondent said the camp had suffered major damage and that some residents had been trapped inside their homes throughout the fighting.
Local activist Asef Moussa told AFP that "dozens of young people will volunteer on Friday to clean the streets and clear up the damage and rubble left by the fighting."
The United Nations ...a formerly good idea gone bad... Paleostinian refugee agency UNRWA said it welcomed the return to calm.
"UNRWA... is working to restore its services in the camp as quickly as possible," said its local affairs director Claudio Cordone, adding that UNRWA would resume its activities on Friday morning.
Ein el-Hellhole is the most densely populated Paleostinian camp in Leb.
Home to multiple armed factions including Death Eater groups, it has been plagued by intermittent festivities.
Lebanese security forces do not enter Paleostinian refugee camps, where security is managed by joint committees of Paleostinian factions.
Ein el-Hellhole is home to some 61,000 Paleostinians, including 6,000 who have fled the war in Syria.
[An Nahar] General Security on Thursday announced the arrest of the "dangerous terrorist runaway" Jalal Mansour, who is the brother of slain Islamist krazed killer Osama Mansour who was killed in a confrontation with security forces in 2015.
"After obtaining information about the presence of a dangerous terrorist wanted on charges related to murder, terrorism and fighting against the Lebanese army, and after identifying the aforementioned person as the terrorist Jalal Mansour, a brother of the terrorist Osama Mansour, a General Security special force raided his hideout in the North and nabbed Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! It said the man, who was wanted on more than 40 arrest warrants, had changed his appearance and chosen a fake name with the aim of concealing his real identity.
"During interrogation, he confessed to belonging to a group previously led by runaway terrorist Shadi al-Mawlawi and slain terrorist Osama Mansour and that he had pledged allegiance to the terrorist al-Nusra ...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli al-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ... Front group and fought alongside it in a military battle against the Lebanese army with the aim of declaring an Islamic emirate in the North," the statement added.
"He also confessed to kidnapping a soldier in the city of Tripoli ...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn... , trading in arms and transporting arms to the terrorist al-Nusra Front group, and recruiting holy warriors on behalf of the aforementioned group and sending them to Syria for military training," General Security added.
The detainee was referred to the judiciary after interrogation.

[ALMASDARNEWS] A woman attempted to place explosives near a local children’s school in the Akrama Neighborhood of Homs on Thursday, a Syrian security source reported this afternoon.
The woman was seen placing bombs alongside the school in Akrama before she was apprehended by Syrian security personnel.
The Syrian security personnel managed to safely remove the bombs and foil the attempted terrorist attack before it could harm the people inside the school.
In 2014, the same school was targeted by a jacket wallah, who managed to infiltrate security and kill over 50 people, mostly children.

Earlier on Sunday, ISIS launched a surprise attack on the Tanaf Border Crossing with Iraq using a VBIED which have killed at least 3 FSA fighters in the Crossing’s outpost.
According to unconfirmed news, the US and Jordanian troops have intervened to repel the attack.

Initially, the Syrian Democratic Forces seized these villages from the Turkish-backed rebels; however, in some strange agreement recently, these sites will be handed back over.
