ICE most wanted fugitive taken into custody
[ICE Public Affairs Update] ICE ’most wanted fugitive’ captured in Colorado following local news report. Public tip helped officers capture Jose Victor Bonilla-Melendez, a previously deported convicted sex offender ‐ and his brother, a previously deported convicted child sex offender

WASHINGTON ‐ U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Denver Fugitive Operations team officers arrested one of ERO’s most wanted fugitives Friday morning in Aurora, Colorado, making a second arrest in the process.

Jose Victor Bonilla-Melendez, aka Anthony Garcia-Melendez, 48, a citizen of Honduras, was located after ERO received a tip about his whereabouts from someone who saw a social media post by the local Denver ABC affiliate regarding his inclusion among ICE’s most wanted fugitives. Bonilla‐Melendez was wanted by ICE for removal from the U.S. as convicted sex offender, last seen in Aurora.

Bonilla-Melendez has a criminal history that includes felony convictions for assault causing serious bodily injury, sexual assault, and unlawful re-entry of a deported alien. He has been removed from the U.S. on two prior occasions, most recently on April 5, 2006. On Dec. 7, 2014, the Aurora Police Department arrested him on local charges, but the subject posted bond before an ICE detainer could be placed. Despite numerous attempts by ICE to locate his whereabouts, he remained at-large.

"unlawful re-entry of a deported alien"

I...I guess I can understand the ambiguity.

Wake me up when ICE announces capture of 100 wanted fugitives.

Decorated Navy SEAL moonlighting as a porn star
Navy Chief Special Warfare Officer Joseph John Schmidt III has been living dual lives.

As a member of the Navy SEALs, the 42-year-old boasts a chest of ribbons and medals during his 23 years in the military, including a valor citation for combat overseas. To his East County neighbors and Coronado shipmates, he’s been the married father who has given pep talks to special-needs children in Los Angeles and toured the country recruiting for the elite Naval Special Warfare teams, even serving as the face of the SEAL program on its website.

Schmidt is also Jay Voom, the actor in at least 29 porn flicks during the past seven years, from "Apple Smashing Lap Dance" to "Strippers Come Home Horny From the Club."

He has spent most of his time in front of the camera engaging in sex with his wife -- porn megastar Jewels Jade -- for her website and film-distribution service. But he also has coupled with XXX actresses Mena Li and Ashden Wells, according to marketing materials found by The San Diego Union-Tribune and confirmed by Jade.

Joseph John, you've been a naughty, naughty boy. More at link.
Surely must beat government contracting.

#3  ...See, here's the problem: As flat-out funny and seemingly inconsequential as this story is, Chief't say Schmidt has (pardon the expression) stepped on it pretty hard.

1. First, the UCMJ says adultery is a no-no. It doesn't say 'it's okay if your wife knows about it/is standing there/it's for business purposes."

2. The UCMJ also has Article 134, to wit:

Though not specifically mentioned in this chapter, all disorders and neglects to the prejudice of good order and discipline in the armed forces, all conduct of a nature to bring discredit upon the armed forces, and crimes and offenses not capital, of which persons subject to this chapter may be guilty, shall be taken cognizance of by a general, special or summary court-martial, according to the nature and degree of the offense, and shall be punished at the discretion of that court.

3. Last, but not least, he didn't get permission to work another job off duty. This one seems inconsequential, but believe me when I tell you that - at least in my experience - it is seriously enforced, whether or not you're working at the 7-11 or selling cars or anything else. The military needs to know where the hell you're at 24/7, and a SEAL all the more so. (Related to this is that the fact that a USN chief got himself $2M USD in the hole in a house-flipping scheme is setting off all kinds of alarms for me right now, and you know others are looking at it too.)

Now. Having said all that, in a perfect world, Chief Schmidt's superiors up and down the chain would sit him down and say, "Okay - first, you lucky b@stard. Second, you know we gotta do something." Then they would let him know that the investigation is gonna take a while, but it's quite possible that if he puts in his retirement papers now, that could end up getting done before the investigation is finished, wink-wink. Unfortunately, I don't have much faith in military leadership to be that smart, and this is going to turn into a dumpster fire of a story.

#4  The UCMJ also reads -

ARTICLE 125. SODOMY
10. Punitive Articles

(a) Any person subject to this chapter who engages in unnatural carnal copulation with another person of the same or opposite sex or with an animal is guilty of sodomy. Penetration , however slight, is sufficient to complete the offense.

(b) Any person found guilty of sodomy shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.

But the cancer has taken hold and everyone ignores it. How can you defend any other 'moral' legal prohibition when you don't enforce what's already on the books? Yep, hammer straights, leave the special interest groups alone? That's certainly not equality. Remember, its all about power.

But she got all in a huff and started reading it to me. We both thought the Navy needs to set an example so guy should be busted down a rank and turned out to pasture.

#2  When I first heard the story of St. Maximilian Kolbe's sacrifice, I thought "Wow. He sacrificed his life so the other guy could live what - another week? Maybe a month?". Turns out that the man that St. Maximilian died for was present when St. Maximilian was canonized by St John Paul II.

Interesting forum, though. Perish the thought that the folks who took such excellent care of Poland's architecture and infrastructure might not have been equally gentle toward her people.

#7  Just to set the record straight, from the article: "Gajowniczek was a Polish political prisoner who had been arrested because he was aiding the Jewish resistance in Poland, although he was not a Jew himself."

Franciszek Gajowniczek was not a Jew. I am sure that St. Maximilian would have done the same for anyone who begged for mercy because of his family.

-Land of the Free
Trump picks fitting administrator to prune new regulatory environment
On April 7, President Donald Trump announced his intention to nominate Neomi Rao as administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA). The announcement did not ignite the firestorm of political attention other nominations have received; good news, given that the position for which Ms. Rao was nominated is one that calls for a swift confirmation process.

The significance and critical responsibilities of the administrator of OIRA is one of the best-kept secrets in Washington. The office -- which has fewer than 50 people -- sits within the president’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and is charged with reviewing and coordinating interagency review of significant proposed and final rules from agencies within the Executive Branch.
This is key.
As a result, the office has a hand in shaping nearly all rules that have an annual effect on the economy of $100 million, that have a material effect on the budget, or that raise novel issues of law or policy.

----

Ms. Rao is an accomplished law professor, with prior experience in the government and private sector. She works well with others, as evidenced by her appointment as a member of the Administrative Conference of the United States and the Governing Council of the ABA Section of Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice. She is clearly a smart and qualified choice to fill the post.

The OODA Loop and Why Police Sometimes Shoot Unarmed People? (Video)
[Bearing Arms] YouTuber "possumpopper89" has crafted a 6-minute video that does a fairly good job of explaining why law enforcement officers (and some "regular Joe" citizens with defensive firearms training) sometimes shoot unarmed people.

People who lack this kind of training (which is probably close to 95% of the general population) hold the mistaken belief that officers wait until they see and identify a weapon in a suspect’s hand before deciding to open fire.

That is simply not the case much of the time. In many instances, it isn’t possible to visually identify a weapon due to lighting conditions or attempts by dangerous criminals to conceal a weapon even as they bring them into play.

Britain
London's police failing to cope with soaring gun & knife violence
[RT] The Metropolitan Police registered a significant spike in knife and gun offences, while detection rates are falling across every category of crime.

An annual report published by Scotland Yard revealed a 42 percent increase in gun violence as well as a 24 percent rise in knife offences compared to the previous year.

Violent & sexual crime on the rise in Britain, new scoring system shows
In the 2016/2017 financial year, there were 12,074 knife crimes as well as 306 gun offences in London alone.

A major contributing factor is an emerging gun and knife culture amongst young Britons, who reportedly think it’s “cool” to carry a weapon.

The new statistics reveal the first major increase in crime rates in the UK for three decades.

NORK Missile Blows Up Right After Launch
Hat Tip: Drudge.
This is similar to another previous explosion at launch phase. That makes me think that some kind of countermeasure messed up the missile. Maybe a laser or something.

Hopefully the Chinese will honor the warranty.
lord garth submitted an article at 12:41 a.m. EDT from ABC News which adds:
According to a Defense Department official, the missile that was launched was land-based, and there was a high degree of confidence that it was not an ICBM, but an assessment was still under way.

Europe
Le Pen Blasts Trump For Changing His Stance on NATO
French presidential candidate Marine Le Pen blasted President Trump Friday for changing his mind about NATO after saying during his presidential campaign that the body was obsolete.

Le Pen said in a radio interview with France Info that Trump may have been swayed by his administration to change his mind. Trump made his comments at the White House in a press conference after a meeting with NATO secretary general Jens Stoltenberg.

"Undeniably he is in contradiction with the commitments he had made," Le Pen said. "I am coherent, I don’t change my mind in a few days. He had said he would not be the policeman of the world, that he would be the president of the United States and would not be the policeman of the world, but it seems today that he has changed his mind."

The far-right French candidate has made terrorism and immigration key parts of her campaign and wants France to quit NATO despite calling for a "big coalition of countries which fight Muslim fundamentalism in which there will be of course the U.S., Russia, countries like Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Chad."

Le Pen is believed to be on track to make it to the next round in the France presidential election.

Home Front: Culture Wars
Activist Arkansas judge joined death-penalty protests on same day he blocked executions
[Wash Times] An Arkansas judge attended two death-penalty protests on the same day that he issued an order blocking the state’s multiple executions, at one point allowing himself to be strapped to a cot in a simulation of an inmate slated to die by lethal injection.

Pulaski County Circuit Court Judge Wendell Griffen "cannot be considered remotely impartial on issues related to the death penalty," said Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge in an emergency petition filed Saturday challenging his order.
She said Mr. Griffen attended a 2 p.m. Friday rally at the state capitol in Little Rock before issuing the temporary restraining order at about 4:25 p.m., then resurfaced at an evening protest outside the governor’s mansion.

"Within an hour of granting the TRO [temporary restraining order], Judge Griffen was photographed at a second anti-death penalty rally -- this one at the Governor’s Mansion, where Judge Griffen lay strapped down to a cot to simulate the experience of a condemned prisoner on a gurney," said the petition. "Judge Griffen was protesting the very executions he had just enjoined."

The judge also spoke out against the executions in a blog post earlier this month, saying that "Arkansas officials plan to commit a series of homicides,"according to the petition.
