They won't get it. Seriously. You've crossed a line when you can look at Islam, and then blithely worry about "others" might over-react to it. There is *nothing* that I would consider to be an "over-reaction" to Islam. All its missing is the Swastika, and that's even present (the Crescent) but it gets no traction in that regard.

Former MP elected as new Galmudug president
[SHABELLENEWS] The former Lawmaker of Somalia has been elected as the new president of the semi-autonomous State of Galmudug
...a semiautonomous region in central Somalia, bordering Puntland on the north. Galmudug is not trying to obtain international recognition as a separate nation, but rather considers itself autonomous within the larger Somali federalism, for what that's worth...
on Wednesday during an election held in Adado town.

Haaf won 53 votes, beating his main rival contender, Ahmed Sharif Ali Hilowle got 35 votes while the remaining vote was announced spoiled during the second round of the voting.

The speaker of the Parliament has confirmed that Haaf was the winner of the election.

In his victory speech, the newly elect president promised to tackle the insecurity in the region and foster relations with the neighbouring regional administrations.

Mr Haaf who is also a famous businessman now becomes the second president of Galmudug since 2014 when the regional administration was declared in Adado city in central Somalia.

Almost reads like a story about voting for a Vermont town selectman. The accompanying 'Daily Fatwa' and the 'weather report for qat-growers and smugglers' kinda gives it away, though.

Somalia announces plan to defeat al-Shabaab
[SHABELLENEWS] Somali President Mohammed Abdullahi said Wednesday his government -- elected in February this year -- had strategized to defeat the myrmidon group al-Shabaab
... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
in two years.

"Al-Shabaab has been active in Somalia for the last ten years causing huge destruction," Abdullahi said during a joint news conference in the Æthiopian capital, Addis Ababa following a close session with Æthiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn.

Al-Shabaab is intent on expanding its reach to neighboring countries, and that gives a reason for cooperation against the menace posed by the myrmidon group, the Somali president added.

He praised the support provided in this regard by Æthiopia and Kenya as well as the African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

"AMISOM has been working together with government and the sacrifices of [men in uniform] of neighboring countries will not go in vain," he said, commending the regional collaboration against the al-Qaeda affiliated group.

Æthiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, for his part, said his discussion with the Somali president was on "major pertinent issues" including the fight against terrorism, the current drought that affects both countries as well as development cooperation.

"We sink or swim together," Hailemariam said. "We cannot thrive leaving other nations behind."

The prime minister added that lack of security in Somalia would ultimately affect neighboring countries by way of a spillover effect.

Women psychologically unfit to be political leaders says Abu Sleem HoR member
[Libya Herald] Women cannot be trusted to hold positions of responsibility because, if pregnant, they will have irrational cravings, a boycotting member of the House of Representatives has claimed.

Abderraouf al-Manaie, one of the two members to represent Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
’s Abu Sleem district and who is seen as being close to the Moslem Brüderbund, told Tanasuh TV that a women as president would be dangerous because if she became pregnant she might start having crazy cravings.

"What would we do if a female president gets into a daze because of her pregnancy and orders, for example, a war against Tunisia?", he asked.

Manaie has courted notoriety in the past. Although elected to the HoR, he has virulently campaigned against it and never joined it, declaring it illegitimate. In late 2015 when the former General National Congress was proclaiming itself still in existence, he became one of its president Nuri Abu Sahmain’s prime cheer leaders,

At one point ‐ allegedly ‐ he physically prevented a number of members from entering the GNC’s hall because of fears they would vote for a replacement as well as recognise the then proposed government of national accord. A couple of months earlier he was reported to be among those who stormed the GNC when it had the audacity to discuss a draft of what became the Libyan Political Agreement.

Tanasuh TV, owned by Sheikh Sadek al-Ghariani’s Dar al-Ifta, is itself not without notoriety. This week, another HoR boycotter, Misratan member Hanan Shaglouf, suggested in a programme of the current reported wave of suicides that they might be due to the "sweet smell" of the bodies of the "deaders" in Benghazi’s Ganfouda district causing shock and depression.

Sweet smells, she claimed, could cause shock.

Nuri Abu Sahmain resurfaces in Guinea, along with Khalifa Ghwell
[Libya Herald] After a year’s absence from the political limelight, former General National Congress president Nuri Abu Sahmain has arrived in Conarky today for talks on Libya with Guinea president Alpha Condé. He was accompanied by his deputy Awad Abdul Saddeq and self-declared "prime minister" Khalifa Ghwell.

Condé, who took over the chairmanship of the African Union

A month ago, House of Representatives President Ageela Saleh was in the Guinean capital for similar talks and it was announced at the time that other Libyan political figures were going to be invited.

Arabia
Powerful Saudi Prince Says no Space for Dialogue with Iran
[An Nahar] Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
's deputy crown prince said Tuesday in a rare and wide-ranging interview that there is no space for dialogue with rival Iran due to its Shiite ambitions "to control the Islamic world."

The interview, which aired on multiple Saudi TV channels, offered a glimpse into how Mohammed bin Salman views the kingdom's top rival. It also laid bare the breadth of his portfolio and powers.

The 31-year-old prince, who was named in 2015 by his father, King Salman
...either the largest species of Pacific salmon or the current Sheikh of the Burnin' Sands, Cutodian of the Two Holy Mosquesand Lord of Most of the Arabians....
, as an eventual heir to the throne, is Saudi Arabia's defense minister, overseeing the war in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
against a rebel group aligned with Iran. He also oversees economic matters and is behind a bold program to overhaul the Saudi economy.

Framing the tensions with Iran in sectarian terms, he said it is Iran's goal "to control the Islamic world" and to spread its Shiite doctrine in preparation for the arrival of a revered imam named Mohammed al-Mahdi. Shiite Moslems believe al-Mahdi, the 12th and last Shiite imam, who disappeared in the 9th century, will one day reappear to bring justice to Earth.

Turkey threatens to strike U.S. forces partnered with Kurds
That seems unwise.
[WASHINGTONTIMES] The war of words between Washington and Ankara over the U.S. military’s partnership with Kurdish paramilitaries in Syria escalated Wednesday, when a senior aide to Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
suggested American troops could be targeted alongside their Kurdish allies in the country’s ongoing air war against the militias.

Senior presidential aide Ilnur Cevik said U.S. forces who are teamed up with members of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units, or YPG, were in danger of being hit by Turkish fighters patrolling the volatile border region with Syria.

If YPG units and their American military advisers "go too far, our forces would not care if American armor is there, whether armored carriers are there," Mr. Cevik said during an interview on Turkish radio station CRI TURK Wednesday. "All of a sudden, by accident, a few rockets can hit them," he added, referring to partnered U.S. forces.

When asked to clarify that U.S. advisers or artillery positions would be in danger from Turkish warplanes, if they continued to support YPG operations in northern Syria, Mr. Cevik replied bluntly that they would.

His comments come days after U.S. forces moved into the Syrian Kurdish enclave of Rojava, in a dramatic show of solidarity amid Turkish Arclight airstrikes targeting those U.S.-backed forces there. The strikes were part of an ongoing counterterrorism operation targeting members of the YPG, which The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
has condemned as a terrorist organization.

After UNESCO vote, Israel cuts another $1m from UN budget
[IsraelTimes] Jerusalem now to pay only $2.7m out of a required $11.7m, but officials unconcerned Israel could lose right to vote at UN bodies.

Israel said Wednesday it would further reduce the amount it pays annually to the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
in retaliation for the latest resolution critical of its policies.

One day after the UN’s cultural agency passed a resolution disputing Israel’s claim to Jerusalem, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel would cut another $1 million from its payments to the UN, bringing the total cuts since December 2016 to $9 million.

"This systematic harassment has a price," Netanyahu said at the beginning of the weekly cabinet meeting, referring to the UNESCO resolution, which calls Israel an "occupying power" in Jerusalem and criticizes the government for archaeological projects in the capital and in Hebron and lambasts its naval blockade of the Gazoo strip.

"In the wake of the resolution, I have instructed Foreign Ministry Director-General Yuval Rotem to deduct $1 million from the funds that Israel transfers to the UN. Israel will not sit by while the organization calls for the denial of our illusory sovereignty in Jerusalem," he said.

Netanyahu’s statement marks the third time in less than a year that Israel has reacted to UN resolutions it deems biased against it by announcing the slashing of its payments to the body.

In December, after the Security Council passed Resolution 2334, Netanyahu ordered $6 million cut from Israel’s payment to the UN. And in March, after the Human Rights Council passed five anti-Israel resolutions, Netanyahu vowed to cut an additional $2 million.

"This considerable sum, almost NIS 40 million, will be transferred to the Foreign Ministry, which is doing exceptional work," he said at the time. "They will use it to develop our relations with countries that want to be close to Israel and are cultivating friendship with it."

The General Assembly requires all 193 UN member states to pay a percentage of the United Nations’ regular budget, based on their GDP. According to the UN Secretariat, Israel is expected to pay $11.7 million this year, or 0.43 percent of the regular budget.

Under Article 19 of the UN Charter, any country in arrears of its dues payments in an amount that equals or exceeds the contributions due for two preceding years can lose its vote in the General Assembly.

After three rounds of cuts, Israel will pay only $2.7 million. However,
the hip bone's connected to the leg bone...
Israeli officials said there is no need to worry about Israel losing its voting rights. "We’re not there yet, not at all," one bigwig said, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
UNESCO’s Executive Board on Tuesday -- Israel’s Independence Day -- passed the resolution with 22 countries in favor, 23 abstentions, 10 opposed, and the representatives of three countries absent.

We are working constantly to increase support for Israel in international bodies in order to reflect our growing status vis-à-vis bilateral contacts with countries," Netanyahu said. "We are also working constantly to reduce, and I hope one day to cancel altogether, the UN theater of the absurd regarding the State of Israel."

New Zealand reaches out to Israel to restore ties

[IsraelTimes] Newly appointed foreign minister seeks to reset relationship broken off after Wellington sponsored anti-Israel UN resolution last December.

Netanyahu was angry at New Zealand’s involvement in the UN resolution, which passed unanimously. The Israeli prime minister called then-Foreign Minister Murray McCully and reportedly threatened to interpret New Zealand’s sponsorship as a "declaration of war."

He also leveled diplomatic sanctions at other countries that supported the measure, including canceling meetings and recalling ambassadors.

Abbas stops funding Gaza electricity to pressure Hamas
[IsraelTimes] Move to ’dry up’ finances of terror group comes as PA leader set to meet Trump at White House on reviving peace talks

Israel supplies electricity from 10 power lines that cover about 30 percent of Gazoo’s needs. Israel deducts the money from the taxes and customs it collects on behalf of the Abbas government. Egypt provides some electricity, but supplies are less reliable.

Israel last week announced the Abbas government’s intention to stop paying for Gazoo electricity. al-Sheikh’s comments marked the first official Paleostinian confirmation.

In the West Bank, a bigwig said the Abbas government would stop paying for the electricity Israel sends to Gazoo, worth at least $11 million a month.

Hussein al-Sheikh, head of the Civil Affairs Department, said Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, profits because it collects electricity payments from Gazoo residents. "We are not going to continue financing the Hamas coup in Gazoo," he told the Voice of Paleostine radio station.

Ahmed Majdalani, an Abbas aide, said that as a next step, the West Bank government would sharply reduce the amount of medicine it ships to Gazoo every month. Majdalani alleged that Hamas is "selling the medicine and collecting the money."

He said that only "necessary medicine" would be sent directly to Gazoo hospitals.

Trump Plays Peacemaker, Hosting Abbas at the White House
[An Nahar] President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
will play peacemaker at the White House on Wednesday, meeting with Paleostinian leader the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
as part of an effort to end the long-running Paleostinian-Israeli conflict.

After hosting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in February, the self-styled deal-maker-in-chief will host Abbas for the first time since coming to office.

"The President's ultimate goal is to establish peace in the region," said White House press secretary Sean Spicer.

That long-shot effort -- which has eluded US presidents since the 1970s -- got off to a rocky start early in Trump's adminstration.

Trump renounced US support for a Paleostinian state and vowed to move the US embassy to Jerusalem, breaking two tenets of US policy held for decades.

Vice President Mike Pence on Tuesday said Trump is still "giving serious consideration into moving the American embassy in Tel Aviv to Jerusalem."

That move would likely spark Paleostinian fury and is privately seen by many in the Israel and US security establishments as needlessly inflammatory.

#3  It looks to me like grooming. First President Trump adamantly refused to have any contact with Mr. Abbas or his people, while having long, cozy phone conversations with Prime Minister Netanyahu, and meetings and phone conversations with everyone else. Then, although President Trump's envoy went on a listening tour, and at some point afterward an appointment with the White House was made, nothing really happened until President Abbas announced the reduction of salaries to PA staff in Gaza, reducing Hamas cash flow, and then that the PA would no longer pay the Gaza electric bill, further reducing Hamas's cash flow. While the public part of the meeting was all flattery stroking the Palestinian ego, according to The Times of Israel today, in private he was slapped around a bit:

During the Wednesday meeting, Trump urged Abbas to stop incitement, crack down on terrorism, and “resolve” his West Bank government’s policy of making payments to families of Israeli-held security prisoners.

“President Trump raised his concerns about payments to Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails who have committed terrorist acts, and to their families, and emphasized the need to resolve this issue,” the White House said in a readout of the two leaders’ first face-to-face meeting.

Human Rights Watch Slams Hamas Holding of 2 Israelis in Gaza
[An Nahar] Human Rights Watch on Wednesday called on Gazoo's Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, rulers to release two Israeli citizens with a history of mental illness believed to have been detained by the holy warriors, saying their extended detention and isolation was "cruel and indefensible."

In a detailed report based on interviews with the men's families and with Israeli and Paleostinian officials, the New York-based group said Avera Mangistu and Hisham al-Sayed likely wandered into Gazoo on foot and had no connection to hostilities between Israel and Gazoo. Hamas has indirectly acknowledged holding them but will not provide confirmation until Israel releases dozens of its enjugged
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
members.

Until they are released, HRW demanded Hamas treat the men humanely and allow them to communicate with family.

"Hamas's refusal to confirm its apparent prolonged detention of men with mental health conditions and no connection to the hostilities is cruel and indefensible," said Sarah Leah Whitson, HRW's Middle East director. "No grievance or objective can justify holding people incommunicado and bartering over their fates."

Hamas is also believed to hold the remains of two Israeli soldiers killed in the 2014 Gazoo war, but it refuses to divulge more information without its demands being met.

Mangistu, 30, a Jewish Israeli of Æthiopian descent who lived in the southern coastal city of Ashkelon, entered Gazoo by crossing a barbed wire fence near the beach in September 2014. al-Sayed, 29, an Israeli-Arab of Bedouin descent from the Negev desert, was seen walking across the Gazoo border in April 2015. HRW said both were found unfit to serve in the Israeli military and had been institutionalized several times because of mental illness.

HRW said a third Israeli citizen, 19-year-old Jumaa Abu Ghanima, appears to have crossed into Gazoo in July 2016, but it was not able to confirm this. The group called on Hamas to unconditionally disclose what it knows about the status of all three men, and whether they are in fact in its custody. Failing to do so amounts to enforced disappearance under international law, it said, which leaves detainees exceptionally vulnerable to torture and other abuse.

Syria Rebels 'Suspend' Participation in Astana Peace Talks
[An Nahar] Syrian rebels on Wednesday said they were suspending their participation as a latest round of peace talks began in Kazakhstan, with the warring sides set to discuss a plan to create safe zones.

"The rebel delegation is suspending the meetings because of the violent air strikes on civilians. The suspension will continue until shelling stops across all Syria," a rebel source in the Kazakh capital Astana told AFP.

Syrian government and rebel delegations gathered on Wednesday for the start of a fourth round of talks sponsored by regime backers Russia and Iran and opposition supporter The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
The latest round of negotiations began with a series of bilateral meetings and was set to focus on a Russian plan to establish "de-escalation zones" around the war-torn country.

Iran attempted to launch a cruise missile from a submarine Tuesday
[FoxNews] Iran attempted to launch a cruise missile from a submarine in the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday but the test failed, two U.S. officials told Fox News.

An Iranian Yono-class “midget” submarine conducted the missile launch. North Korea and Iran are the only two countries in the world that operate this type of submarine.

In February, Iran claimed to have successfully tested a submarine-launched missile. It was not immediately clear if Tuesday’s test was the first time Iran had attempted to launch a missile underwater from a submarine.

This incident comes on the heels of other recent provocations from Iran.

#7  If they get it to work, it'd be a new threat regardless if it was a swarm or single-unit attack.

Now, imagine a midget sub with a SSLCM-N...

ISIS developing own social media platform
Tired of seeing their Telegram communications referenced in the news [Ynet] ISIS bandidos bandidos Lion of Islams are developing their own social media platform to avoid security crackdowns on their communications and propaganda, the head of the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
's police agency said on Wednesday.

Europol Director Rob Wainwright said the new online platform had been uncovered during a 48-hour operation against Internet extremism last week.

"Within that operation it was revealed IS was now developing its very own social media platform, its own part of the Internet to run its agenda," Wainwright told a security conference in London. "It does show that some members of ISIS (IS), at least, continue to innovate in this space."

Some 900 Jordanians fight in Syria, Iraq; recruitment slumps -senior official
It's always good to have numbers, however accurate or not they might be.
[Ynet] Around 900 Jordanians are fighting for Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
and al-Qaeda-inspired groups in Syria and Iraq but recruitment numbers have fallen sharply to their lowest ever levels, a senior Jordanian official told Rooters on Tuesday.

Those now fighting in Iraq and Syria mostly left Jordan, a staunch US ally which borders the two countries, in the early years of the conflict between 2013 and 2014, according to the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
