Black Lives Matter awarded a global peace prize
[CIRCA] The Black Lives Matter movement will receive a global peace prize from the Sydney Peace Foundation
...according to their website, "The Sydney Peace Foundation was founded in 1998 to promote public interest in peace, justice and universal human rights. It is a not-for-profit organisation at the University of Sydney and is supported by the City of Sydney."
at a ceremony in Sydney in November, Newsweek reported.
Newsweek still exists? I really must pay more attention.
The award will specifically highlight the work of the founding leaders of the activist network, Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza and Opal Tometi.

Past honorees of the award include South African civil rights activist Desmond Tutu, philosopher Noam Chomsky, and former Irish President Mary Robinson.
..conventional SJW choices who have furthered various kinds of evil in the world...
"This is the first time that a movement and not a person has been awarded the peace prize -- a timely choice," the Sydney Peace Foundation said when announcing the award. "Climate change is escalating fast, increasing inequality and racism are feeding divisiveness, and we are in the middle of the worst refugee crisis since World War II. Yet many establishment leaders across the world stick their heads in the sand or turn their backs on justice, fairness and equality."

Arabia
Top Saudi cleric slams preachers who approve music & singing
[RT] The Grand Mufti of Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, Abdul-Aziz ibn Abdullah Al ash-Sheikh, said that the Moslem preachers who have been recently approving singing and listening to music by worshipers were being insubordinate, local media report.

Abdul Aziz Al ash-Sheikh said that such "recalcitrant" preachers went against their own convictions, by changing their stance after decades of banning music.

The Grand Mufti also criticized preachers who used fictional stories in their sermons and in advising their flock.

"We have the book of God (the Koran), it’s enough and there is no need for such fairy tales," he said, as cited by Okaz daily.

According to the Grand Mufti, the Moslem faith "strictly forbids" such things as listening to music and singing.

However,
there's no worse danger than telling a mother her baby is ugly...
some Saudi preachers have been recently insisting that the ban on music in Islam was questionable.

Last year, the imam of Quba Mosque in Madinah, Sheikh Saleh al-Maghamsi, said that Saudi Arabia ‐ where concerts have been outlawed for decades ‐ was "in bad need of novelty and modernization."

"As for music, three Moslem scholars have said different things," Maghamsi ‐ who believes that only singing, but not music, should be banned ‐ was cited by Arab News.

The Saudi General Entertainment Authority has been pushing for relaxing the strict Sharia rules in the country.

In his interview with Rooters in April, the Authority’s head, Ahmed al-Khatib, said that Riyadh could be transformed "99 percent" to look like London or New York.

In March, live music has made its comeback to the Saudi capital with renowned Arab singers, Rashed al-Majed and Mohammed Abdu, performing in Saudi Arabia for the first time since the 1980s.

The entertainment authority’s primary goal was the reintroduction of cinemas across Saudi Arabia, Khatib said.

Britain
Who’s funding Britain's terrorists? ‘Sensitive’ Home Office report may never be published
[RT] An investigation commissioned by former Prime Minister David Cameron
... has stated that he is certainly a big Thatcher fan, but I don't know whether that makes me a Thatcherite, which means he's not. Since he is not deeply ideological he lacks core principles and is easily led. He has been described as certainly not a Pitt, Elder or Younger, but he does wear a nice suit so maybe he's Beau Brummel ...
into the revenue streams behind jihadist groups operating in Britannia may never be published, the Home Office has admitted.

The inquiry is thought to focus on British ally Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, which has repeatedly been highlighted by European leaders as a funding source for Islamist krazed killers, and may prove politically and legally sensitive, the Guardian reports.

The UK has close ties with Saudi Arabia. Prime Minister Theresa May visited the country earlier this year.

In January 2016, a specialist Home Office unit was directed by Downing Street to investigate sources of overseas funding of krazed killer groups in the UK. The findings were to be shown to Cameron’s then-Home Secretary May.

Eighteen months later, however, the Home Office told the Guardian the report had not been completed and would not necessarily be published, calling the contents "very sensitive."

A decision on the future of the investigation would be taken "after the election by the next government," a spokesperson said.

Cameron was urged to launch an investigation in December 2015 as part of a deal with the Liberal Democrats in exchange for the party supporting the extension of British Arclight airstrikes against Islamic State

Putin also partially restored a mutual agreement on the movement of each country's citizens that was suspended after Turkey shot down the plane near the Syrian border, the Kremlin added.

The Russian leader agreed to lift some of the restrictions after meeting his Turkish counterpart Tayyip Erdogan in early May.

Russia is still keeping a ban on Turkish tomato imports, in the face of a Turkish proposal to lift the bar outside the Russian growing season.

In response, Ankara imposed prohibitively high import tariffs on Russian wheat from mid-March, but resumed purchases after the presidents' meeting on May 3.

Asked Wednesday about a report that French forces are involved in assassinations of French ISIS holy warriors in Iraq, government front man Christophe Castaner neither confirmed nor denied The Wall Street Journal's findings.

He simply replied: "I say to all fighters who join the Islamic State group and then go abroad to wage war: waging war brings risks, and they must assume those risks."

President Emmanuel Macron, elected May 7, says crushing ISIS is a top priority.

Citing Iraqi officers and current and former French officials, the Journal said French special forces have enlisted Iraqi soldiers to hunt and kill Frenchies who have joined ISIS' senior ranks.

German students clash with police over deportation of Afghan refugee
[RT] At least nine coppers were maimed as violent festivities between students and police broke out in the German city of Nurnberg when a group of students tried to block the deportation of an Afghan fellow learner.

The incident occurred as a police van carrying the Afghan student tried to leave the grounds of a vocational-technical school located not far from Berliner Platz in Nurnberg. At first, a group of some 20 students attempted to block the vehicle by staging a sit-in strike on the road leading out of the school grounds.

Germany cancels flight deporting migrants to Afghanistan after Kabul blast

[Ynet] The German government has cancelled a flight planned for Wednesday to deport rejected asylum seekers to Afghanistan after an kaboom killed at least 80 people in the Afghan capital Kabul, broadcaster ARD cited the interior minister as saying.

The interior ministry could not immediately comment.

In December Germany began carrying out group deportations of Afghans as the government sought to show it was tackling the high number of migrants colonists by getting rid of those who do not qualify as refugees.

Home Front: WoT
With lawsuits pending, Trump moves to cut refugee admissions
US President Donald Trump is moving to significantly reduce the number of refugees allowed to enter the United States, even as his bid to temporarily suspend admissions is stalled in the courts. The latest effort comes through Trump's federal budget proposal, which calls for a 25 percent cut in funds for resettling refugees on American soil.

If approved by Congress, the 2018 budget blueprint would lower overall refugee funding to $2.7 billion from $3.1 billion--a 13 percent drop. That includes US contributions to international aid groups helping refugees in other countries.

But the funds specifically earmarked for US refugee admissions would face a steeper reduction, to $410 million from $544.7 million as recently as 2016.

Duterte insists he ‘will not talk to terrorists’ in U-turn on clashes in south Philippines
[RT] Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte insists he will not talk with the forces of Evil fighting his country’s military and occupying parts of a city in its south, saying he is determined to drive Islamic State

"I will not talk to the terrorists," Duterte said during a speech he gave to the military in Davao City on Wednesday, as quoted by Rooters.

The statement represents a turn-around for Duterte, who urged the Maute rebels to speak with him just last week.

A total of 129 people ‐ 89 holy warriors, 19 civilians, and 21 government soldiers ‐ have been killed in the Philippines’ southern city of Marawi since IS-linked Maute rebels took control of parts of it last week, military front man Brigadier General Restituto Padilla told AP.

Government
Bipartisan Bill to Bar U.S. Funds to Afghanistan Would Lead to Government Collapse
[FREEBEACON] A bipartisan bill aiming to cut funding for the war in Afghanistan would severely destabilize the nation's security environment, particularly amid a Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
resurgence, according to regional experts.

Anthony Cordesman, the Arleigh A. Burke Chair in Strategy at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, said a withdrawal of U.S. funds to Kabul would signal the inevitable collapse of the Afghan government to myrmidon groups and regional powers such as Russia and Iran.

"This [legislation] would be essentially telling the entire region, as well as Death Eaters and bad boys, that the Afghan government has no practical chance at surviving," Cordesman told the Washington Free Beacon. "What would happen is the entire modern sector of the economy, which is heavily dependent on outside aid, would collapse. You're not talking about the country breaking up, you're talking about the country imploding."

The measure, introduced in March by Reps. Walter Jones (R., N.C.) and John Garamendi (D., Calif.), would prohibit the United States from providing money to efforts in Afghanistan beginning in October 2019. The American embassy and intelligence gathering activities would be the only two entities exempted from the ban.

The bill has nine cosponsors--three Republicans and six Democrats--and is largely intended to force a floor debate on the U.S. end goals and whether Washington should continue engagement in Afghanistan.

Home Front: Culture Wars
Lefties now demanding statue of Sam Houston be removed from Houston Park
[AMERICANTHINKER] The Sam Houston statue has been at Hermann Park since 1925, but a group that calls itself Texas Antifa has started a campaign to take down this and any other landmark that bears the name Sam Houston.
Sam goes, I go. I'll go live in Liberia until they decide to change the name of the city named after James Monroe. I'll probably be dead by then, luckily.
The statue has been a site to see for nearly a century and for some people, it's a site they want to see for years to come.
Others would rather pet the camel's nose.
"Honestly, I think they should keep it up. Yeah," Nicole Nelson said.
Duh.
But Texas Antifa group members want the Sam Houston statue gone.
"Yes! It must go in the name of racial ideological purity."
On Thursday, the group posted on its Facebook page saying, "Texans agree the disgusting idols of America's dark days of slavery must be removed to bring internal peace to our country."
How many Texans did they ask in Del Rio and El Paso and Uvalde and Lubbock and Amarillo? How about Mineral Wells, Waco, Bangs, Commanche, and Blanket?
The group also suggested Mayor Sylvester Turner should back the removal of the statue, because of his ethnicity and political affiliation.
He's expected to come around after a few Black Lives Matter riots.
Mayor Turner is black,
Do tell. Whites make up 51 percent of the population, though only 25 percent of them are non-Hispanic. Blacks have 25 percent, and "All others" have the rest.
and apparently that is supposed to dictate his every thought and action. Too bad that the antifa people deny him the moral right to reach his own decisions.

As the article points out, while Sam Houston did own 12 slaves, he was hardly an explicit supporter of slavery:
He was also the preeminent founding father of Texas.
When Sam Houston was a senator in the 1800s, he repeatedly voted against the spread of slavery to new territories of the United States. He was also ousted as governor of Texas for refusing to align himself with the Confederacy.
Houston was founded on August 28, 1836, near the banks of Buffalo Bayou (now known as Allen's Landing) and incorporated as a city on June 5, 1837. The city was named after former General Sam Houston, who was president of the Republic of Texas and had commanded and won at the Battle of San Jacinto 25 miles east of where the city was established.
Of course, if the statue is removed, then the city itself must be renamed by the same logic. Marcuse, Texas? Obama, Texas? My gut instinct tells me that Texans will not put up with this nonsense.
My gut instinct tells me that the people now inhabiting Houston will go with Obama, TX.

#4  And anyone who bothered to stay awake in Texas History classes would know that ole Sam was opposed to slavery and was impeached as governor because he was opposed to seceding from the union and joining the south in the Civil War.

Totally ignorant of the facts.

The FATHER of Texas, the hero of San Jacinto.

#6  Seems like anti-terror laws ought to apply to groups and individuals that are bent on tearing down the U.S. Many use violence as well as property destruction as a tactic. Here. One group identified as being behind the effort to remove the Sam Houston statue is Texas Antifa. It is linked to an organization named The Alliance for Global Justice Corp. Their 990 form filed with the IRS is Here.

One problem is that so many of these left-wing groups are interlocked and connected with many other left-wing groups, financially as well as ideologically.

#8  Surveying comments in both the Texas Antifa Facebook page, and in relevant articles, if Antifa does move forward with their attempts it will get ugly very fast. Austin mayor sez the subject is not even on his agenda, but again this is Austin

#10  Next on their agenda, the Washington Mo unenthusiastic and the Jefferson Memorial. And then we'll have to rename Washington, DC answer Washington state. And all the cities named Washington. And Jefferson. And on and on.

#11  If Antifa tries, they will be very upset by the result.

#13  If the Nazi wannabes Antifa want to come play in Texas, they will discover that this isn't the People's Republic of California and the natives are NOT friendly to them.
