-Lurid Crime Tales-
Follow-up--Mich. woman gets life for murder in parrot case--parrot testified.
A Michigan woman has been sentenced to life in prison for the shooting death of her husband in a crime apparently witnessed by the man’s pet parrot.

Forty-nine-year-old Glenna Duram of Sand Lake learned her sentence Monday after a jury found her guilty of first-degree murder and a felony firearm charge last month.

Forty-six-year-old Martin Duram was shot five times in May 2015. Glenna Duram suffered a head wound in what prosecutors said was a suicide attempt, but survived.

Martin Duram’s ex-wife, Christina Keller, has said that after the slaying, the pet parrot, Bud, repeated "don’t (expletive) shoot" in Martin Duram’s voice. Keller took ownership of the bird after Martin Duram’s death.

Glenna Duram’s attorney plans to appeal.

2 die in mass shooting in New Mexico library
Two people have been shot dead and four more injured in a shooting at a New Mexico library on Monday, police said.

The shooting happened at the Clovis-Carver library in Clovis, New Mexico.

Police surrounded the library several minutes after 4pm Monday, the Curry County Sheriff's Office confirmed.

Police were seen escorting an unidentified man in handcuffs into a police cruiser. It has not been confirmed whether or not the man is the suspected shooter
A photo of the miscreant being taken away can be seen at the link.
Police spokesperson Captain Roman Romero confirmed around 4.40pm that multiple people were killed and injured in the shooting, but did not provide more details.

One witness told the Eastern New Mexico News that she was in the library with her son when a man came in and 'started to shoot' into the air.

The woman did not see anyone get shot, but the suspected shooter was still at the library when she left. She told the outlet she thought he was carrying a handgun.

Police were seen escorting an unidentified man in handcuffs into a police cruiser. It has not been confirmed whether or not the man is the suspected shooter.

A suspect is believed to be in custody.

Air ambulances were dispatched and at least one victim was taken to Clovis Municipal Airport to be transported to Lubbock, Texas, about 100 miles away.

According to the newspaper, one police scanner report said one victim was in a closet in the library and needed medical attention.
Update from the Eastern New Mexico News, the local paper, at 2:45 p.m. EDT:
Pastor: Teen was suicidal

The teenage boy accused in the deadly shooting at Clovis' public library had been in trouble at school, had recently contemplated suicide and had "anxiety attacks" that resulted in his going home from church on Sunday morning, his pastors said.

Nathaniel Jouett was tossed in the calaboose
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
without incident after police said he opened fire a little after 4 p.m. Monday in the library, killing two people and injuring four more.

Pastors at Clovis' Living Word Church of God said the shooting stunned them because they thought Jouett was making positive strides in recent weeks, following what both described as a "very hard life."

"He started coming to church about 3 1/2 months ago," said Pastor David Stevens.

"My daughter called him and asked if he wanted to hang out."

Stevens said his daughter soon learned Jouett was "laying with a gun at his side and a suicide note in his pocket" as they talked on the phone.

Once Jouett began attending church, he was a regular, often participating in multiple worship services in a week.

"I know that he had been turning his life around," said Living Word's Associate Pastor Bonetta Hutson.

"I know last week ... he was jumped in a bathroom. And then he got into a fight on Friday and was suspended for two days," Hutson said.

Stevens said Jouett was upset about the fight.

"He said he tried to avoid it. He knew that's not what he was supposed to be doing," Stevens said.

Clovis schools Superintendent Jody Balch said he did not know if Jouett had been fighting or if he were suspended.

Stevens said Jouett was at church on Sunday morning, but began having "anxiety attacks" during services and had to go home. He returned for Sunday night services and then spent about an hour at Stevens' home with other teens.

"He said his chest had been hurting him all day," Stevens said.

Stevens said Jouett lived with his father and was estranged from his mother.

He declined to go into detail about the boy's past, but said he'd recently given a testimony about his Christian faith at church.

"So I have been baptized and gotten back in 2 church," Jouett wrote on his Facebook page on Aug. 14.

"I have this overwhelming joy. (T)hank you 2 the church for making it feel like home."

German killer nurse suspected of 84 more murders
[Al Jazeera] A former German nurse serving a life sentence for murdering patients by injecting them with a deadly medication is suspected of killing 84 other people, according to police.

If convicted, the man identified only as Niels H. under reporting rules, would be one of the worst serial killers in the country's criminal history.

A court order to exhume scores of former patients treated by the suspect found traces of the medication in 84 cases, Johann Kuehme the police chief in the northern German city of Oldenburg told a press conference on Monday.

Kuehme said police believe that the numbers of deaths could be even higher. However, many of the patients who died have since been cremated.

In past hearings, the nurse, now aged 40, admitted deliberately injecting patients at two clinics in northern Germany with deadly drugs and then trying to revive them in order to play the hero, German media said.

'Murders could have been prevented'

An Oldenburg court sentenced H to life in prison in February 2015 on two counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder and causing bodily harm to patients.

During his trial in 2015, the former nurse also confessed to murdering more patients during his career.

His confession prompted police to establish a special commission to investigate the deaths at two clinics where he worked - in Oldenburg and the nearby town of Delmenhorst.

Family calls Decatur, IL sailor who died in USS McCain collision 'our pride and joy'
[Chicago Tribune] Petty Officer 3rd Class Logan Stephen Palmer, 23, was among 10 sailors who had been reported missing after the collision between the USS John S. McCain and an oil tanker. On Sunday, officials said Navy and Marine Corps divers had recovered the remains of all 10.

The cause of the Aug. 21 collision is still under investigation.

Palmer was an interior communications electrician and received a National Defense Service Medal, according to his Navy personnel file.

In a statement issued through the Navy, Palmer's family said, "Logan was our youngest son and like his older brothers and younger sister, our pride and joy. He was a loving and wonderful young man, a great little brother and a cool big brother."

"He loved his family dearly and was committed to making the Navy a career and was excited about the adventures the Navy would offer him," the statement said. "He also cared for his shipmates and we are incredibly proud of him and his service to our Navy and the country. We are heartbroken with the news and will miss him tremendously. We are so very thankful God gave us 23 amazing years with him and we will cherish those memories for the rest of our lives."

Family members expressed their appreciation to those who supported them since Palmer went missing, including those from their church, community and the Navy.

Not such a bright idea! Californians sprayed SUNSCREEN in their eyes to watch solar eclipse
[DailyMail] While millions of Americans donned special protective sunglasses to safely watch the solar eclipse last week, some Californians apparently turned to sunscreen to protect their eyes from the retina-scorching celestial spectacle.

A health professional based out of Redding, California, told the local station KRCR last week that one of her colleagues in town had patients arrive at a clinic after they had sprayed sunblock on their eyeballs as an ill-advised alternative to proper sun-filtering shades.

Trish Patterson, a nurse practitioner at Prestige Urgent Care, told the station the hapless eclipse watchers were suffering from eye pain and had to be referred to an ophthalmologist for treatment.

The nurse said so far, she and her fellow medics have not come across any patients suffering from damage to the retina as a result of gazing at the sun during the August 21 solar eclipse.

California was among the states where only a partial eclipse was visible, as if fell out of the narrow path of totality spanning 14 states.

Prior to the hotly anticipated astronomical event, experts urged eclipse watchers to invest in NASA-approved spectacles, or to view the eclipse indirectly by projecting an image of the sun onto a screen.

Rubbing sunblock into one's eyes was not listed among the recommended methods to safely take in the eclipse.

In fact, most sunscreens come with a warning label reminding users to keep the product out of their eyes because the lotion or spray can cause pain or irritation.
Continues.

Caitlyn Jenner ambushed by transgender woman
[PAGESIX] A transgender woman at an LGBT event over the weekend ambushed Caitlyn Jenner for voting for Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
The woman, whose name is Ashlee Marie Preston, filmed the intense confrontation and shared it on Facebook.

"It’s really f‐ked up you continue to support somebody that tears us down," she yelled at Jenner, 67, at the event. "It’s really f‐ked up."

Stunned by Preston’s action, Jenner remained mostly quiet as the journalist continued to hound her.

"Nobody wants you here ... it’s really ridiculous," Preston pressed on. "You’re a f‐king fraud."

Eventually, another attendee stepped in to try and diffuse the situation, which only angered Preston more.

"We are complicit. Taking her money and doing all that, it makes us complicit," Preston replied. "It goes against the mission."

"How are we going to fight anyone if we keep doing this infighting?" the friend responded.

Preston fitted in one last jab before Jenner walked away: "You’re a f‐king fraud and a fake."

The organization's social media accounts made no mention of the conflagration but noted that a half-dozen offices across Texas were closed on Monday as a powerful storm continues to batter the state.

Instead of Harvey tracking North as it was forecasted to do before they left for Texas it is starting to dump lots of water in Louisiana so some of these guys may loose everything back home while in Houston.
Posted by: Threatch Jeamp8135 || 08/29/2017 9:02 Comments || Top||

#6  Let me qualify. The immediate threat is exposure; people need to get out of the water. Next is going to be dehydration. A bass boat may not be able to rescue many at a time, but it can carry potable water and space blankets to a number of people until a rescue boat can make the trip. Cajun Navy is doing this from as far away as Florida. Petition local governments to give the convoys a priority, give them space.

#7  The Ag Community has been on this for a couple days now. To help directly, contact your local 4-H or FFA and ask them if there is a convoy being organized. Ask what they need. A nice, compact, affordable item is an emergency blanket. What I have here at the store is about the size of a wallet and retails for $2.99, so even a modest amount of money can get a number of these, they can be stuffed into nooks and crannies, and will make a world of difference.

Russia: US seeks to destabilize Venezuela through sanctions
[Iran Press TV] Russia has said that the US’ anti-Venezuela sanctions are aimed at upsetting the country’s internal balance and creating economic problems.

"We are firmly opposed to unilateral sanctions against sovereign states," said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on Monday.

"The latest measures of financial pressure on Venezuela and President Nicolas Maduro were introduced by Washington at a time when that country showed signs of relative internal political stabilization after the elections to the National Constituent Assembly, street protests eased somewhat and a schedule of forthcoming elections, including gubernatorial and presidential ones, was finalized," she added.

On Friday, US President Donald Trump

2 Lugansk deputies found murdered
Google translations is really messing with Russian to English translations. korrespondent.net didn't help any with all the scare quotes. Story slightly rewritten.
The General Prosecutor's Office of the People's Republic of Lugansk, a Russian backed separatists entity, opened a criminal investigation into the murder of two deputies of the People's Council of the People's Republic of Lugansk in a private house in Lugansk on the night of 26 to 27 August.

Said Deputy Prosecutor General of the People's Republic of Lugansk, Grigory Tsevenko: "In the Kamennobrodsky district of the city of Lugansk on the night of 26 to 27 August in private housing, there were two persons found dead who were deputies of the People's Council of the People's Republic of Lugansk."

According to Tsevenko, a criminal investigation was begun.

A separate account posted in Lugansk official government website identified the decedents as Anatoly Krivonosov and Inna Kuznetsova, a married couple. According to a commenter on the Facebook page of former Donetsk foreign minister, Aleksandr Koffman, both had served as fighters in the Dawn Battalion in 2014, when the civil war in southeastern Ukraine began.

According to Russian Wikipedia, the Dawn Battalion, known by its Russian spelling Zarya, was formerly commanded by now Lugansk president Igor Plotnitsky. The unit is now designated 1st Motorized Infantry Brigade.

"At the moment, the criminal case is undergoing urgent investigative actions and operational-search activities in order to establish all the circumstances of the crime and those who committed it," added Tsevenko.

"Data on the victims of the criminal case and other circumstances of the crime are not disclosed in the interests of the investigation," added Tsevenko.

Speaking in Abu Dhabi, the two ministers offered a forceful warning for Pyongyang, with Emirati Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan particularly calling for North Korea to stop its "provocations."

But what was left unsaid between the two ministers was their own diplomatic and commercial ties to North Korea, with the UAE in particular home to thousands of its workers whose wages help Pyongyang avoid international sanctions.

Early Tuesday, North Korea fired a ballistic missile from its capital that flew over Japan before crashing into the northern Pacific Ocean.

The missile, which traveled some 2,700 kilometers (1,677 miles) on its trip over the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido, appeared to be the first to cross over Japan. It sparked new fears about a confrontation between Pyongyang and America's Asian allies in the region, especially as U.S. President Donald Trump has taken a hard line against the country.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who is visiting the UAE as part of a three Gulf Arab nation tour over the ongoing diplomatic crisis involving Qatar, avoided discussing that dispute. He instead focused in part on North Korea.

"Regarding North Korea and the missile tests it is conducting, we stick to the resolutions of the U.N. Security Council and we insist on the fact that our North Korean neighbors should fully respect those resolutions," Lavrov said. "We base our position on these statements during discussions in the Security Council and will do the same in the session, which as far as we understand is being planned now and which will be dedicated to discussing the last missile launches from North Korea."

North Korea test fires missile over Japan, in major escalation
[IsraelTimes] ICBM falls into ocean off Hokkaido after traveling 2,700 kilometers; Tokyo calls launch ‘grave, serious security threat’

North Koreans ‘continue to learn’ by each launch, Pentagon says

[Iran Press TV] Although the latest missile test by North Korea did not demonstrate any specific advancements in Pyongyang’s technology, it still means the resolute country’s scientists "continue to learn" more and more about military know-how.

Speaking among news hounds, Pentagon front man Colonel Robert Manning called Pyongyang’s latest launch a "threat."

"We have to make the assumption that they continue to learn throughout each one of these missile launches," Manning said. "You're still firing missiles, so that's a threat."

Three missiles were launched from Kittaeryong on North Korea’s east coast over the weekend, according to US Pacific Command (PACOM). Two of the missiles reportedly flew some 155 miles in the northeastern direction while the third one went kaboom! almost immediately.

"If you’re asking if those three short-range missiles was less of a threat, the answer is no. It was a provocative action," the Pentagon front man said.

#2  It looks like Kim has made the fundamental policy decision to dismiss all Western threats and warnings as empty blustering.

Unfortunately this is a perfectly rational assessment.

Western leaders have been actively eroding Western deterrence since 9/11/2001.

#3  From: FoxNews

Japanese officials made the usual strongly worded condemnations of the launch.

What's next, a sternly worded letter from the UN and a couple tweets from USA.

Apparently nobody going to do anything about this, not even China. We will get more launches as a result.

Iran’s Kish Airline to buy Boeing, Airbus planes

Kish Airline CEO Mohammad Taqi Jadidi was quoted by the domestic media that the plan envisaged buying 10 planes from Boeing and 6 more from Airbus.

Jadidi told Iran’s IRNA news agency that the new Airbus planes would be added to his company’s fleet before the end of the current Iranian calendar year (21 March 2018).

He added that Boeing planes would be purchased in the next Iranian year.

Nevertheless, the official did not specify which specific models the purchases would involve.

#6  People can choose to pay him to come rescue them immediately, or wait until someone doing it for free happens to find them. We don't know if he lost everything except the boat in the flood, and needs the money, or has even stronger reasons for not donating his time, gas, and the risk of damaging the boat. Either way, those who choose to pay will leave the charitable efforts for those who truly need it, resulting in more total rescues -- surely a good thing.

The blog post is worth reading, as are the comments.

#8  Upon review of TW's post, I'll moderate mine somewhat. Her arguments may very well be the case.

This aside, if I had lost damn near everything, except for my boat, I doubt I'd put my pain upon others. Gas money? Sure. "Wuber" services reimbursement? Nah.

$200/$100 are not "small" donations to those with mostly water in their pockets.
