positions in eastern Nuristan province of Afghanistan, leaving over fifty Lions of Islam dead, the local officials said Saturday.

The provincial police chief of Nuristan General Mohiuddin Sarwari confirmed that the Arclight airstrikes were carried out on Friday in the vicinity of Barg-e-Matal district.

Gen. Mohiuddin further added that the information received by Nuristan police indicates at least fifty five Taliban hard boyz were killed.

He said two big shots of the Taliban group identified as Ismail and Fazal Karim were also among those killed.

Gen. Sarwari said several weapons of the Taliban hard boyz including a 82mm artillery of them was also destroyed.

In the meantime, the 201st Silab Corps of the Afghan army in the East said the Arclight airstrikes were carried out using the A-29 Super Tucano aircrafts.

The source further added that the raids were conducted as scores of Taliban hard boyz had gathered in the area.

However,
denial ain't just a river in Egypt...
the Taliban group front man Zabiullah Mujahid rejected that the Taliban hard boyz were killed in the Arclight airstrikes and said the bombs dropped by the planes only landed in the jungles without causing any casualties to the Talibs.

Boko Haram Kills Eight Farmers in Nigeria
[AnNahar] Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
jihadists killed eight people in a series of raids on farming communities in northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
, civilian militia members and local residents told the AFP news agency on Friday.

The attacks were carried out by gunnies traveling in pick-up trucks and on cycle of violences outside the Borno state capital, Maiduguri, on Wednesday and Thursday.

Homes were razed, and food and livestock seized in an apparent reprisal attack against young men joining the civilian militia, which helps the military with security.

"They killed eight farmers in the raids and burnt three villages which forced farmers to abandon their farms," said one militia leader, Ibrahim Liman.

Some 17 Islamist fighters stormed Mallan village at about 8:00 am (0700 GMT) on Thursday, killing two farmers.

Three people were rubbed out in the same village on Wednesday night, said resident Jidda Kori, who fled to Maiduguri.

"They mainly targeted young men in the attacks because they believe every young man is a member of the civilian vigilante" he added.

"They burnt down the entire village and took away our food, livestock and 13 bicycles."

Kesa Kura village, which is near Mallan, was also attacked on Wednesday night, killing three people, said resident Mohammed Ahmed.

Another village, Manjita, was razed but residents managed to flee after they were alerted by people fleeing Mallan, he added.

The eight-year Boko Haram conflict has forced farmers and their families to flee their homes and fields, leading to a shortage of food and exacerbating a humanitarian crisis.

Many were living in camps for the displaced in and around Maiduguri but had moved back to their homes because of apparent successes in the counter-insurgency.

A cash funding shortfall for feeding programs has also forced people to leave the camps to try to resume farming in liberated areas after three missed seasons.

On Monday, four people were killed in a drive-by shooting on a group of farmers working on their fields in Ngawo Fato Bulabulin village outside Maiduguri.

Last week a farmer was rubbed out and four others were kidnapped by the jihadists as they worked on their farms near the town of Konduga, 38 kilometers (24 miles) from Maiduguri.

Boko Haram kills seven in attack on displaced camp
[AlAhram] At least seven people were killed when Boko Haram

jihadists attacked a camp for people displaced by the conflict in northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
, militia members and locals said Saturday.

The attack on Friday evening in Ngala, near the border with Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
, came as two people were killed in an kaboom outside another camp in the Borno state capital, Maiduguri.

In Ngala, a civilian militia member, Umar Kachalla, said jihadists in two pick-up trucks fired a rocket-propelled grenade at the camp, which houses some 80,000 people.

"They (Boko Haram) fired an RPG into the camp from behind the fire fence, killing seven people and injuring several others," he told AFP from the neighbouring town of Gamboru.

The attack, which happened at about 8:00 pm (1900 GMT), was followed by sustained gunfire as the jihadists drove away into the darkness, he added.

Ngala resident Abubakar Yusuf, who corroborated Kachalla's account, said: "The casualties were relatively minimal because most people had retired for the night."

The camp in Ngala was set up in January last year after the return of thousands of Nigerian refugees from Cameroon, where they had fled the fighting.

Boko Haram seized the trading hubs of Gamboru and Ngala in August 2014, during the group's rapid seizure of territory across Borno state and the wider northeast.

Nigerian troops retook both towns in September 2015 with the help of Chadian forces.

But despite the recapture of the area, Boko Haram fighters still launch sporadic attacks, laying ambush to troops and vehicles as well as attacking and abducting farmers.

group affiliate is a spent force but continued attacks underlines the lingering threat, particularly to civilians.

Eight farmers were killed in a series of raids on farming communities on Wednesday and Thursday. Four others were rubbed out on Tuesday.

Many of the victims had returned home to try to grow crops to alleviate acute food shortages that have left hundreds of thousands of people on the brink of starvation.

Amnesia Amnesty International said a spurt in Boko Haram attacks has left nearly 400 people dead since April in Nigeria and Cameroon -- double the figure of the previous five months.

In Maiduguri on Friday, two people were killed in an kaboom outside the Muna Garage camp for internally displaced people (IDPs).

Babakura Kolo, from the civilian militia assisting the military with security, said two women were asked to get out of a taxi laden with bags of charcoal at a checkpoint.

"One of the women tried to run into a crowd nearby but the explosives concealed under her hijab went off prematurely," he said.

"A female passenger in the taxi and a rickshaw driver trailing behind were killed in the kaboom," he said in an account supported by a militia colleague, Musa Ari.

Five people -- the taxi driver, another passenger and three men in the rickshaw -- were maimed, they added.

Kolo, who was at the scene, said a secondjacket wallah'> exploding trollop female suicide bomber
was also killed with the first in the initial blast.

U.S. Citizen Pleads Guilty To Providing Material Support To Al Shabaab
[RADIOSHABELLE] Maalik Alim Jones, 32, a U.S. citizen who resided in Maryland until 2011, pleaded guilty to conspiring to provide material support to al-Shabaab
... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
, a designated foreign terrorist organization based in Somalia, conspiring to receive military training from al-Shabaab, and carrying and using an AK-47 machine gun, rocket-propelled grenades and other weapons in furtherance of his support for al-Shabaab.

Acting Assistant Attorney General for National Security Dana J. Boente and Acting U.S. Attorney Joon H. Kim for the Southern District of New York made the announcement. U.S. District Judge Paul G. Gardephe presided over the hearing.

"Jones pleaded guilty to conspiring to provide material support to al-Shabaab, by traveling abroad to join and fight on behalf of the foreign terrorist organization for four years," said Acting Assistant Attorney General Boente. "I want to thank the many prosecutors, agents, and analysts who made this result possible."

"As he admitted in court today, Maalik Jones traveled to Somalia, was trained by al-Shabaab in the use of an AK-47 and rocket-propelled grenades and took up arms for four years as a terrorist fighter," said Acting U.S. Attorney Kim "For his allegiance to this lawless, terrorist organization that vows to destroy America and its values, Maalik Jones been held to account in an American court of law. All that is left is for him to be sentenced for his crimes."

According to the Complaint, the Indictment, the Superseding Information, and statements made in court proceedings, including today’s guilty plea:

In 2011, Jones traveled via commercial aircraft from New York to Kenya, with stopovers in Morocco and the United Arab Emirates. After arriving in Kenya, Jones traveled by land from Kenya to Somalia where he trained, worked and fought with al-Shabaab in Somalia. Among other things, Jones received military training at an al-Shabaab training camp, where he learned to operate an AK-47 assault rifle and rocket-propelled grenades. Jones also became a member of al-Shabaab’s specialized fighting force, Jaish Ayman, and participated in combat against soldiers of the Kenyan government on behalf of al-Shabaab.

In particular, after joining Jaish Ayman, Jones and his Jaish Ayman unit participated in a battle in Afmadow, Somalia, against Kenyan government soldiers. Jones, armed with an AK-47 rifle, engaged in the fighting until he was injured by a missile and then hospitalized. After his release from the hospital, Jones returned to his service with al-Shabaab and, in particular, Jaish Ayman.

The material support count carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. The military training count carries a maximum sentence of 5 years in prison. The machinegun count carries a maximum sentence of life in prison, with a mandatory minimum sentence of 30 years in prison, which must run consecutively to any other sentence. The maximum statutory sentence is prescribed by Congress and is provided here for informational purposes. The sentencing of the defendant will be determined by the court after considering the advisory Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors. Jones, who has been detained since his arrest in December 2015, will be sentenced by Judge Gardephe on Jan. 25, 2018.

Iraq
Iraq steps up strikes on ISIS-held Hawija ahead of offensive
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Iraqi air force and the US-led coalition have stepped up a campaign of Arclight airstrikes on the ISIS group-held town of Hawija ahead of a planned ground assault there, according to Iraq’s minister of defense on Saturday.

Iraqi forces are pushing IS out of the remaining pockets of territory the group holds in the country after forces backed by the US-led coalition retook Iraq’s second largest city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
in July.

"There are large operations underway ahead of the liberation of Hawija and surrounding areas," Iraqi Defense Minister Erfan al-Hayali told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named, explaining that his forces were working closely with Iraqi Kurdish forces known as the Peshmerga as well as the coalition.

Last month, the Iraqi military command overseeing the ISIS fight declared victory in Tal Afar, west of Mosul and announced Hawija, 240 kilometers north of Baghdad, would be the next battle against the holy warriors.

The stepped-up coalition strikes are targeting ISIS territory in western Anbar as well as Hawija, said US Army Colonel Ryan Dillon, coalition front man.

Simultaneous attacks
"Coming off of their victory in Tal Afar (Iraqi security forces) will use a lot of the same techniques," Dillon said. "Simultaneous attacks proved to be very successful as did operations ahead of time to let civilians know what to do."

Defense Minister al-Hayali said his forces began radio broadcasts and leaflet drops on Hawija warning civilians of the planned push.

The United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
said the operation to retake Tal Afar forced some 20,000 people to flee, according to counts by Iraqi authorities. When the fight for Hawija begins, the UN estimates some 60,000 people will be affected.

Philippines won’t let Daesh flee in exchange for hostages: Duterte
[Iran Press TV] Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte says the country will not allow ISIS Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
Lions of Islam to escape the country’s southern city of Marawi in return for release of dozens of hostages they hold.

"No way," Duterte told news hounds in response to a question about a report that the Takfiri group’s local leader Omarkhayam Maute has offered to free an estimated number of 20 to 30 hostages in Marawi in exchange for the safe exit of the murderous Moslems.

"If I can save one life there, I am willing to wait one year (to retake the city)" Duterte said in Cagayan de Oro, a few hours away from Marawi.

In May, the Lions of Islam captured large parts of Marawi on the island of Mindanao and managed to continue the occupation of the city, despite over 100 days of Arclight airstrikes and ground attacks by government troops.

According to the army, nearly 655 murderous Moslems, 45 civilians and 145 soldiers and coppers have been killed in Marawi, while 1,728 civilians have been rescued. At least 400,000 have been displaced.

The military has launched its final push to recapture Marawi, which has been devastated by artillery and bombings, as troops try to secure buildings and navigate through mines and booby traps.

The army says the Takfiri Lions of Islam are forcing some of the hostages to take up arms against the government troops.

The army has imposed martial law on Mindanao Island, which is home to 22 million people, until the end of 2017, in an attempt to prevent formation of an alliance between ISIS and other murderous Moslem groups.

Army front man Colonel Edgard Arevalo said rescuing the hostages will be the top priority for the army, adding, "We are still very mindful of the presence of civilians - guns against their heads - who were made human shields or ordered to wield firearms and ammunition, were converted to become fighters and shoot at our troops."

Rohingya Muslims among 1,000 killed in Myanmar: UN rapporteur
[DAWN] More than 1,000 people might already have been killed in Myanmar, mostly minority Rohingya Moslems ‐ more than twice the government’s total ‐ a senior United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
representative said on Friday, urging Aung San Suu Kyi to speak out against the deaths.

In the last two weeks alone 270,000 mostly Rohingya civilians have fled to Bangladesh, overwhelming refugee camps that were already bursting at the seams, the UN said.

Others have died trying to flee the fighting in Rakhine state, where witnesses say entire villages have been burned since Rohingya bully boyz launched a series of coordinated attacks on August 25, prompting a military-led crackdown.

On the basis of witness testimonies and the pattern of previous outbreaks of violence, said Yanghee Lee, the UN special rapporteur on human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
in Myanmar, "perhaps about a thousand or more are already dead".

"This might be from both sides but it would be heavily concentrated on the Rohingya population."

#1  Guerrilla warfare was fairly unusual and ineffectual way back when. The low-tech and simple counter was to hold the population in a given area responsible for any attacks. This meant the complete destruction of the homes in a given area and/or the massacre/sale into slavery of that population, so as to deprive the guerrillas of a means of support.

The massacre at Lidice, in reprisal for the assassination of Heydrich, was held to be a great horror. But it was really a return to the past, back when the lives of conquerors and combatants were held to be paramount. Otherwise, why go to war?

Rebellions in the Orient seldom last very long. Oriental combatants have simply not learned to respect the well-being of the people they aspire to either rule or continue to rule. When the Communists took power, in China, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia, they simply massacred the recalcitrants. In many cases, instead of wasting bullets, they merely put them in slave labor camps and killed them via malnutrition. The Indonesian response to a communist revolt was to kill hundreds of thousands of the revolutionaries. In neither instance was the response particularly novel either in the Orient or around the world - recall the Roman response to Bar Kochba's revolt.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syrian army breaks ISIL siege in Deir Az Zor airbase
[Al Jazeera] The Syrian army and allied forces have broken ISIS's siege on Deir Az Zor military airport, state media said on Saturday, hours after US-backed fighters announced a separate push against the gang in the oil-rich eastern province.

State news agency SANA said the breach came "after the forces advancing from the cemetery southwest of the city linked up with the forces holding the air base".

The latest advance of the Russia-backed forces came days after they ended another siege on residential districts of the city as they seek to oust ISIS from its last major stronghold in Syria.

Earlier on Saturday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a coalition of Kurdish and Arab fighters, said they had also launched an anti-ISIS offensive from the north of Deir Az Zor city, aiming to clear the group from territory east of the Euphrates River.

The operation brought them into a race with the government forces marching in the same direction.

Ahmad Abu Khawlah, head of SDF's Deir Az Zor Military Council, said his forces had begun fighting to push ISIS out of remaining territory in Hasakeh province and further south in Deir Az Zor in eastern Syria.

The announcement came as Syrian government forces, backed by Russian air power and Hezbollah fighters, closed in from the south of Deir Az Zor city in a separate military campaign against ISIS.

The dueling battles for Deir Az Zor highlight the importance of the key eastern province, which has become the latest epicentre of the international war against ISIS, raising concerns of an eventual clash between the two sides.

Al Jazeera's Mohammed Jamjoom, reporting from Beirut, the capital of neighbouring Syria, described the double offensive as "a race against the clock to see which of these two competing forces can have dominance in this oil-rich area".

He added: "Whoever is going to get more of this province is going to control more of the oil, and this really sets up what has been a regional rivalry to see who can take over more territory in Syria since the beginning of this war."
