Presidential Council probes slaughter of 36 persons in Benghazi's Al-Abyar
[Libya Observer] The Presidential Council has issued a statement condemning the "heinous crime" and the "horrifying act" that led to the wholesale killing of 36 persons after being tortured then tossed on the road in al-Abyar district in Benghazi.

The statement issued on Sunday said that this act is only committed by inhuman individuals and those who are stripped of their ethics, morals and manners as well as religion, adding that such an act goes at odds with the efforts to build democracy in Libya, where human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
should be respected and violations be brought to justice.

"There will be a thorough investigation in coordination with the Attorney General's office to bring the criminals to justice." The Presidential Council added.

Reactions weighing in on the brutal massacre topped Facebook walls and were mostly accompanied by the sad and angry emojis.

The reactions included the UNSMIL, which tweeted that it "condemns in the strongest terms the heinous crime resulting in the killing of at least 36 whose bodies found in al-Abyar area," calling for immediate investigation to bring perpetrators to justice.

Likewise, the Italian Embassy in Libya's capital, Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, tweeted: "Horrified at the sight of the bodies discovered in al-Abyar. Such a heinous crime must not go unpunished."

UN-backed Libyan government condemns Derna air strike
[Al Jazeera] The UN-backed government of Libya has strongly condemned the air strike on the eastern city of Derna and called on the UN Security Council to investigate the attack that killed at least 17 civilians.

A statement issued on Tuesday by the Presidential Council on behalf of Fayez al-Sarraj, the head of the Government of National Accord (GNA), said that the air strike should be treated as a "war crime".

While the statement did not say who was responsible for the deadly bombing, it called for the immediate lifting of more than a year of siege imposed on Derna city to allow humanitarian aid and for those injured to be evacuated for treatment.

"The siege has left many suffering," said the statement, adding that it will not tolerate the killing and intimidation of Libyan citizens.

Derna has been besieged by gangs loyal to General Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
, the self-styled chief of the Libyan National Army (LNA).

The Mujahideen Shura Council, which is currently in de facto control of Derna, took the city from ISIS in 2015. It is the only city in eastern Libya not controlled by forces of General Haftar.

South African opposition party marches against Israel on Balfour Day
South Africa’s second-largest opposition party, the Economic Freedom Fighters, will march against Israel on Thursday to protest against the 100th Anniversary of the Balfour Declaration.

The EFF, well-known for its socialist leanings and for its leaders and members wearing scarlet overalls, vowed to turn the country’s capital Tshwane (formerly Pretoria), red as they march on the Israeli Embassy, with hundreds of the party’s members and supporters expected to attend.

On Twitter, the party’s charismatic leader, Julius Malema encouraged his followers to attend and "occupy the Israeli Embassy."

"We love self-determination, peace and justice, democracy is our nickname. We are not free until Palestine is free, let’s occupy [the] Israel Embassy," he said.

Arabia
Iran rejects Saudi accusation over Yemen
[DAWN] Tehran on Monday rejected as "ridiculous and baseless" accusations by Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
that Iran was supporting rebels and blocking peace efforts in Yemen.

"The Saudi foreign minister’s claims that our country has been blocking peace efforts in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
are ridiculous and baseless," foreign ministry front man Bahram Ghasemi said.

"Iran has condemned the aggression (against Yemen) since the beginning...and will not spare any efforts to stop this bloody and detestable war," Mr Ghasemi said in a statement published on the ministry’s website.

Both sides in the Yemen conflict have come under harsh criticism for their neglect of civilian safety.

"Repeating such false accusations will not reduce the responsibility... of those who have committed heinous crimes, particularly murder, destruction of schools and hospitals and pushing an innocent population to famine," Mr Ghasemi said.

Canadian sues over wines labelled 'Product of Israel'
Idiot. But he's a university lecturer, so such posturing is necessary.
[Al Jazeera] A Canadian university lecturer and radio broadcaster has filed a suit in federal court challenging the inaccurate labelling of wines made in illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank and exported to Canada as a "Product of Israel".

David Kattenburg, a 62-year-old Winnipeg resident and son of Holocaust survivors,
Not all survivors, not to mention their children, learned the same kesson from the experience.
had previously submitted a complaint in late March to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) about its labelling procedures, indicating that the grapes used were grown in the occupied West Bank and processed in wineries outside of Israel's formal borders.

"These falsely-labelled products trouble me as a consumer," Kattenburg said in July after he filed the original complaint. "Canadians have a right to know that [a product] is made in Israel, if it's made in some other place. This is a matter of concern. They have the right to truthful labelling."

India-Pakistan
Pak senators overwhelmingly condemn US policy on South Asia
[DAWN] Senators on Tuesday expressed serious reservations against the United States' policy on South Asia as well as related recent developments, including increased drone attacks and US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson's visit to Islamabad.

During a Senate session, politicians unequivocally criticised the US's new bent, terming it a threat to regional security and peace.

Senator Taj Haider said US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
"wants to divide people while erecting walls." He claimed that the US economy was rooted in conflict, but Islamabad would not become part of any proxy war in the region.

Senator Farhatullah Babar turned his guns on the government, criticising Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif for "not being able to control the reins of Pakistain's foreign policy". He also asked why dronezaps had resumed in the tenure of the incumbent government.

He also lambasted Asif for a recent statement in which he had said that Pakistain would take action against those identified by the US. He said that it seemed to be the same narrative floated by military dictator and former president Pervaiz Musharraf.

He also found fault with other statements made by the foreign minister. Recalling that Asif had told US officials that their generals had failed so they should find a political solution to Afghanistan, Babar urged the minister to "adopt the same approach."

#3  Pak is overdue for serious sanctions. They hid OBL, mullah Omar, countless Haqqani overlords and minons. Cut all foreign aid, delete all cooperative events, ban all visas, and demand an end to their support to the taliban. When they refuse, use finance laws to cut them off from the main stream of global finance. When they bitch about that to their China pals, explain to China that they are next if they can't get their Pak client to behave.

UN Launches $65M Legal Pogrom to Hunt Down Israelis and Smear Israel as Criminal State
[PJMedia] The United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
has made a deal with the Paleostinians to fund a $65 million legal pogrom directed at Israel. The party on the Paleostinian side was referred to as the "Government of the State of Paleostine."

More specifically, the "United Nations System in the occupied Paleostinian territory" plans to pay eight UN bodies $64,838,510 between the years of 2018 and 2022 to hunt down individual Israelis and to smear Israel as a criminal state.

The eight UN bodies or agencies to receive the funds are:

1. Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights
2. UNICEF (the children's fund)
3. The UN Development Program
4. UN Women
5. UNESCO
6. UN Habitat
7. The World Health Organization
8. UNRWA (the Paleostinian refugee agency)

Except for UNESCO, which the United States no longer supports, 22% of the money will come from American taxpayers.

The deal, first signed and disseminated in Arabic on June 15, 2017, is part of the "UN Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) for the occupied Paleostinian territory for 2018-2022."

Lawfare at the UN in Israel's case goes by the stage name of "accountability." It includes accusing Israel of war crimes, apartheid, and crimes against humanity; sending spurious cases to the International Criminal Court; engaging in boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) campaigns to destroy the economic well-being of Israel; and making false accusations of violations of fabricated "international law" -- in particular criminalizing Israel's right of self-defense. The goal is unambiguous: the demonization and destruction of the Jewish state.

#1  The party on the Paleostinian side was referred to as the "Government of the State of Paleostine."

TW, we've discussed this before, where William Dever (Ret., U of A), whose comments with regard to "state" status for palestinians - belong to one centralized authority, but what with Hamas, Al Fatah, and a dozen other players who are even more manifest in their hatred of each other, the proper conditions for a "state" don't exist. Dever was talking about Iron Age I.

Iraqi PM: Anbar to be freed from Daesh in days
[PRESSTV] Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abad has said that the country’s western Anbar province will be fully liberated from ISIS in "a few days."

"We will announce liberation of al-Qaim within the coming few days," said Abadi during a presser on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, Commander of Western Anbar Operations Lt. Gen. Abdul Amir Yarallah announced that several regions and villages in the province and two oilfields had been seized from the turbans following extensive army operations.

Last week, Abadi announced that Iraqi forces are advancing into the "last den" of the ISIS Takfiri

Tensions rise after Israel blows up tunnel from Gaza
[DAWN] Tensions rose on Tuesday after an Israeli operation to blow up a tunnel from the Gazoo Strip killed seven Paleostinian Lions of Islam in one of the deadliest incidents since a devastating 2014 war.

The seven men, from the armed wings of Gazoo's rulers Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, and allied group Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
, were killed on Monday when Israel blew up the tunnel it said had crossed into its territory and was intended for attacks.

They were being buried on Tuesday in their respective neighbourhoods in the Gazoo Strip.

Hamas leader Ismail Haniya appeared at a funeral in central Gazoo attended by a few thousand people, witnesses said, while senior Hamas figure Khalil al-Hayya spoke at one in the southern part of the strip.

"(Hamas) knows how to manage the conflict with the enemy and how to get Dire Revenge and strike at the time and place that hurts the enemy," Hayya said, according to a statement.
Talk is cheap. But Islamic Jihad is now somewhat weaker in relation to Hamas than it was two days ago, so Hamas isn't really that upset. Besides, President al Sisi wants Israel kept happy a while longer.

Singapore bans Islamic scholar Mufti Menk's entry into country for 'promoting religious discord'
[DAWN] Singapore has banned Islamic preacher and scholar Mufti Ismail Menk from entering the city-state, saying that his views promote religious discord, reported Al Jazeera on Tuesday.

Menk, who hails from Zim-bob-we and has more than two million followers on Twitter, as well as Haslin bin Baharim, a Malaysian scholar, were barred from entering Singapore by the government ahead of their lectures on a "halal cruise" scheduled for late November, said the article.

According to Al Jazeera, Singapore's Ministry of Home Affairs said in a statement that its decision to reject Menk's application for a short-term work pass stemmed from his "segregationist and divisive
...politicians call things divisive when when the other side sez something they don't like. Their own statements are never divisive, they're principled...
teachings", also alleging that Baharim promoted "disharmony between Moslems and non-Moslems".

"[Their views] are unacceptable in the context of Singapore's multi-racial and multi-religious society," the ministry was quoted as saying by Al Jazeera. "They will not be allowed to get around the ban by preaching instead on cruise ships which operate to and from Singapore."

Menk, in a Facebook post on Tuesday, said that the implication that he was using the cruise "to get around the ban" was "erroneous".
