Turkey Detains 50 over Links to Group Blamed for Coup Bid
[AnNahar] Ottoman Turkish police Thursday detained 50 people including soldiers and air force pilots in raids in 11 cities against those accused of links to the group blamed for last year's failed coup, state media reported.

Prosecutors in the northwestern city of Eskisehir issued arrest warrants for 66 people as part of a probe into followers of US-based Moslem holy man Fethullah Gülen
... a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania whom the current govt of Turkey considers responsible for all the ills afflicting Turkey and possibly the entire world...
in the Ottoman Turkish air force, state-run news agency
...and if you can't believe the state-run news agency who can you believe?...
Anadolu reported.

Those targeted include an unknown number of air force pilots and serving soldiers, as well as civilians suspected of being so-called "secret imams" who are alleged to be in charge of Gulenists
... the Turkish version of the Boogie Man, who set fire to the Turkish Reichsstag...
in the military.

The agency said raids are continuing to find the 16 other suspects.

The operation comes after police staged an operation on Wednesday to detained 360 people, including 333 soldiers, as part of a probe into the Gulen network in the armed forces.

Home Front: WoT
Kerry: Israel, Egypt, Saudis pushed US to bomb Iran before nuke deal
So it wasn’t just Israel? Odd that he and his boss didn’t openly snub the other parties involved...
[IsraelTimes] Former Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, unsuccessful presidential candidate, and utterly failed Secretary of State...
said both Israel and Egypt pushed the United States to "bomb Iran" before the 2015 nuclear deal was struck.

Kerry defended the deal during remarks Tuesday at the Ignatius Forum in Washington, saying Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was "genuinely agitating towards action," before he struck the accord with Tehran.

Kerry said when he was chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he met with Late King of the Arabians, Sheikh of the Burning Sands Abdullah
... Now a dead guy...
, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak
...The former President-for-Life of Egypt, dumped by popular demand in early 2011...
and Netanyahu, who all lobbied for military action.

"Each of them said to me, you have to bomb Iran, it’s the only thing they are going to understand," he said.

But Kerry said that was "a trap" since the Arab countries would have publicly criticized the US if it bombed Iran.

It was not clear when the conversations took place. Kerry chaired the Senate panel from 2009 to early 2013. Mubarak was deposed in February 2011.

Perpetrator Of 2016 Attack At Ohio State Acted Alone: FBI
[RADIOSHABELLE] A Somali immigrant who maimed 11 people in a car and knife attack at Ohio State University a year ago was influenced by the ideology of Lion of Islam group Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. but had no outside help in planning the violence, the FBI said on Wednesday.

Abdul Razak Ali Artan, 20, on Nov. 28, 2016, plowed into pedestrians with a car and then exited the vehicle to stab other victims, before a police officer at the campus shot him.

Artan, who was born in Somalia and became a lawful permanent U.S. resident, was pronounced dead at the scene in Columbus, the state capital.

Islamic State a day later grabbed credit for Artan’s actions. The Federal Bureau of Investigation initially said Artan appeared to have been inspired by the group, but the agency at the time said it had found no evidence others were involved in planning the attack.

After a year-long investigation, the FBI said on Wednesday it had confirmed its initial assessment.

"The evidence from the extensive investigation indicates the perpetrator acted alone and was not directed by a terrorist organization," the FBI statement said, adding that the agency’s investigation was complete.

ATC releases 73 protesters arrested from Faizabad sit-in on bail
[DAWN] An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Thursday released on bail 73 men who were tossed in the slammer

from the 20-day sit-in staged by members of religious parties in the capital.

While approving the bail applications of 73 detainees, the judge extended the judicial remand of 47 protesters.

The court ordered the released protesters to submit surety bonds worth Rs10,000.

Apex court calls out media, ISI over their 'questionable role' in the Faizabad sit-in
[DAWN] A two-member Supreme Court bench on Thursday castigated government officials, intelligence agencies as well as the media for their 'questionable role' in the sit-in at Faizabad, which had disrupted life in Islamabad and Rawalpindi for 20 days.

"How did the protesters get teargas shells and sticks?" Justice Mushir Alam asked the advocate general of the Islamabad jurisdiction.

"If you cannot secure the federal capital, how will you secure the country?" he asked, addressing the government.

The bench, which is hearing a petition on the disturbance caused to public life due to the sit-in, made the remarks while reviewing a nine-page report submitted to the apex court on Wednesday on behalf of Inspector General of Islamabad Police, Khalid Khattak.

At the outset of the hearing, Deputy Attorney General Sohail Mahmood requested the court to adjourn the matter until Tuesday as the attorney general is out of the country.

"Why should we adjourn if you are going to be present?" Justice Qazi Faez Isa asked in response.

Continuing with the hearing, the judge asked why the country's agencies do not come forward. "Why is the Inter-Services Intelligence
...the Pak military intelligence agency that controls the military -- heads of ISI typically get promoted into the Chief of Army Staff position. It serves as a general command center for favored turban groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad, tries to influence the politix of neighboring countries, and carries out a (usually) low-level war against India in Kashmir...
(ISI) representative not here?" he asked, inquiring as to why the intelligence agency was "silent".

He added that it was the ISI's responsibility to protect the state. "The poor of this country provide the funds for ISI," he said.

Justice Isa also took note of the fact that the protests are not completely over and that a sit-in is still ongoing.

SC overturns life sentences of three convicts in Musharraf attack case
[DAWN] A three-judge Supreme Court (SC) bench on Thursday overturned the life imprisonment sentence of three men suspected of planning an attack on former president Pervez Perv Musharraf
... former dictator of Pakistain, who was less dictatorial and corrupt than any Pak civilian government to date ...
The three accused ‐ Intakhab Abbasi, Zafar Ali and Muhammad Kabeer ‐ had been convicted of planning to attack the Army House in a bid to target retired General Pervez Musharraf.

They had initially been sentenced to death by an anti-terrorism court but later the Lahore High Court turned their sentences into life imprisonment.

The men, who have now been set free, were also accused of having links with the Tehrik-e-Taliban
...Arabic for students...
Pakistain.

According to the judges, the verdict was overturned due to lack of evidence. "The prosecution's neglect led to the fish escaping the net," Justice Dost Muhammad remarked during the hearing.

"The prosecution failed to prove its case," Justice Asif Saeed Khosa remarked.

In a separate case, the SC overturned a death sentence handed to a man convicted of multiple murders in a 10-year-old case citing a "lack of evidence".

The suspect, Saeed Akhtar, was sentenced to death by a trial court some 10 years ago for the murder of five people. The Lahore High Court upheld the trial court's verdict in the case at the time.

A three-judge bench, headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, decided today to overturn the verdict citing a lack of evidence.

The court, as it overturned the death sentence, said that the prosecution had failed to prove the case and that there were no eyewitnesses to prove the legitimacy of the prosecution's claim.

India should pursue case against Hafiz Saeed internationally if it has proof: PM Abbasi
[DAWN] Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said that if India thinks there is substance to its allegations against Jamaat-ud-Dawa
...the front organization of Lashkar-e-Taiba...
(JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed
...founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba and its false-mustache offshoot Jamaat-ud-Dawa. The United Nations declared the JuD a terrorist organization in 2008 and Hafiz Saeed a terrorist as its leader. Hafiz, JuD and LeT are wholly-owned subsidiaries of the Pak intel apparatus, so that amounted to squat...
it should pursue charges against him on an international forum.

PM Abbasi, in an interview with Bloomsburg News, said that the Lahore High Court had decided to release the JuD leader as there were no charges against Saeed, and that the decision to free him was within the bounds of the law.

"The court, a three-judge bench, has released him saying there are no charges against him, the country has a law you know," Abbasi told Bloomberg. "Prosecute him internationally if there is substance to these charges ─ these are accusations only. No evidence has been provided by India."

According to Bloomberg, India claimed it has provided evidence to Pakistain. However,
a lie repeated often enough remains a lie...
Indian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Raveesh Kumar did not respond to requests for comments, the report said.

The prime minister also brushed aside United States (US) accusations that Pakistain provides sanctuary to myrmidon groups, saying that attacks in the region are originating from Afghanistan.

Musharraf calls himself 'greatest supporter of LeT'
[DAWN] Former president Pervez Perv Musharraf
... former dictator of Pakistain, who was less dictatorial and corrupt than any Pak civilian government to date ...
on Tuesday declared that he is the greatest supporter of proscribed murderous Moslem group Lashkar-e-Taiba
...the Army of the Pure, an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI...
(LeT).

, who was recently released from house arrest, was made during a discussion pertaining to Musharraf's recently announced 23-party 'grand alliance' on ARY News programme 11th Hour.

During the talk show, the host pointed out that it will be "an interesting visual" to see Musharraf ─ "enlightened moderation, liberal outlook" ─ sitting next to leaders of parties such as Majlis-e-Wahdatul Moslemeen, Sunni Itehad Council and Pakistain Sunni Tehrik
...formed in Karachi in 1992 under by Muhammad Saleem Qadri. It quickly fell to trading fisticuffs and assassinations with the MQM and the Sipah-e-Sahaba, with at least a half dozen of its major leaders rubbed out. Sunni Tehreek arose to become the primary opposition to the Deobandi Binori Mosque, headed by Nizamuddin Shamzai, who was eventually bumped off by person or persons unknown. ST's current leadership has heavily criticized the Deobandi Jihadi leaders, accusing them of being sponsored by Indian Intelligence agencies as well as involvement in terrorist activities...
─ "parties with religious colours."

"You are describing me as a liberal [...] Yes, I am. These are my thoughts," the former president said. "That does not mean I am against all religious parties."

"I am the greatest supporter of LeT and I know they [LeT and JuD] are fond of me," he said.

When asked if he "liked" JuD chief Hafiz Seed, the former president said that he does and that he has met with him.

"Because I have always been in favour of action in Kashmire and I have always been in favour of pressuring the Indian army in Kashmire. This is the biggest force and they have been declared gunnies by India and the US jointly," Musharraf said, explaining his stance.

The former president went on to deny that LeT was involved in the 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai ─ an allegation leveled by India and supported by Washington.

Jordan's King warns against moving US embassy to Jerusalem
[Ynet] Jordan's King Abdullah II said during his visit to the United States that "the transfer of the American embassy to Jerusalem at this stage will have repercussions in the Paleostinian, Arab and Islamic scene," adding it would "endanger the two-state solution and could be potentially exploited by snuffies to stoke anger, frustration, and desperation in order to spread their ideologies."

Abdullah stressed this after reports said US President Donald Trump

plans to announce Thursday the transfer of the American embassy to Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, announcing its recognition as the capital of Israel.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
At least 801 civilians killed in coalition airstrikes in Iraq and Syria: Pentagon
Civilian human shields, camp followers and hard boys out of uniform, oh my! And all are credited to the terror group that chose not to keep them out of harms way, according to the Geneva Conventions that ISIS is not signatory to, not to the American coalition that struck them down while going after the bad guys.
[AlAhram] At least 801 civilians have been killed by US-led coalition Arclight airstrikes against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group in Iraq and Syria, according to a Pentagon report released Thursday.

Five more strikes, all in Syria, were investigated over the past month and found to have resulted in 15 civilian additional civilian deaths, the report stated.

However,
if you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning...
monitoring groups say the number of civilian casualties from coalition airstrikes in the fight against IS group is far higher than the Pentagon acknowledges.

Since August 2014, more than 5,000 civilians have been killed as a result of coalition airstrikes in Iraq and Syria, according to the London-based Airwars organization that tracks civilian deaths in the anti-IS group operation.

The majority of civilian casualty allegations are currently from coalition airstrikes in Syria. The Pentagon says they are still assessing 695 reports of civilian casualties, more than 400 of which are from strikes carried out in Syria.

US-backed Syrian forces retook the city of Raqqa from IS groupncontrol in October and pushed IS fighters out of a swath of territory along the Euphrates river valley in the following weeks.

Each investigation that found an allegation credible determined it was "more likely than not" that a coalition strike resulted in a civilian casualty, the report stated.

"Although all feasible precautions were taken and the decision to strike complied with the law of armed conflict, unintended civilian casualties unfortunately occurred," the Pentagon added.

More than 400 US troops leaving Syria
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] More than 400 US Marines and their artillery are leaving Syria after helping to capture the city of Raqqa from ISIS, the US-led coalition fighting the bully boy group said on Thursday.

Last month, US-backed militias declared victory in Raqqa, ISIS’s former headquarters in Syria, after months of fighting with the help of the US-led coalition.

"With the city liberated and ISIS on the run, the unit has been ordered home. Its replacements have been called off," the coalition said in a statement, using an acronym for ISIS.

"We're drawing down combat forces where it makes sense, but still continuing our efforts to help Syrian and Iraqi partners maintain security," Brigadier General Jonathan Braga, the director of operations for the coalition, said in the statement.

"Our remaining forces will continue to work by, with, and through partner forces to defeat remaining ISIS, prevent a re-emergence of ISIS, and set conditions for international governments and NGOs to help local citizens recover from the horrors of ISIS' short-lived rule," he said.

Officially, the Pentagon says there are 503 troops in Syria. However,
women are made to be loved, not understood...
as of last week, US officials said there were closer to 2,000 US troops in the country. The latest announcement would reduce that number.

As that campaign against ISIS winds down, it is unclear how many, if any, US troops will remain in Syria.

Most of them are special operations forces, working to train and advise local partner forces, including providing artillery support against ISIS bully boys.

Regarding the claims stated by Lebanese President Michel Aoun

, Saad Hariri said: "Many stories have been told but if I were tossed into the calaboose, I would not be here in Beirut today. Before that, I was able to go to Gay Paree, Egypt, Cyprus. I was free."

When asked about his resignation and the role he would wish to take on, Hariri said: "I wanted the world to understand that Leb can no longer tolerate the interferences of a party like Hezbollah in the affairs of the Gulf countries, where 300,000 Lebanese live. We must not pay for the actions of Hezbollah."

Hariri added: "In Leb, Hezbollah has a political role. Leb's interest is to ensure that its weapons are not used elsewhere. I will not accept that a Lebanese political party participates in maneuvers that serve the interests of Iran."

He commented on threats he received: "I have many enemies, turbans and the Syrian regime. The latter pronounced a death sentence against me. They accuse me of interference in their country. Frankly, do you imagine us Lebanese interfering in Syria?"
