HARDBALLS: Tingles Chris Matthews Nailed By Sexual Harassment Scandal
[TruePundit] An MSNBC spokesman confirmed Saturday the company made a separation-related payment to one of Chris Matthews employees after the woman complained about sexual harassment.

Two sources familiar with the situation told The Daily Caller that Matthews paid $40,000 to settle with an assistant producer on his show, "Hardball with Chris Matthews," in 1999 after she accused him of harassment. An MSNBC spokesperson contested that claim to the Caller, saying the company instead paid significantly less as part of a severance package.

The woman complained to CNBC executives about Matthews making inappropriate comments and jokes about her while in the company of others.

The MSNBC spokesman said that they thoroughly reviewed the situation at the time and that Matthews received a formal reprimand. Based on people who were involved in matter, the network concluded that the comments were inappropriate and juvenile but were not intended to be taken as propositions.

The woman received separation-related compensation when she left MSNBC and has gone on to work in a number of high-profile media positions. MSNBC declined to comment on whether the employee left because of Matthews or whether this was the only claim in Matthews’ history at the company.

Green Beret killed in Mali discovered SEALs' illicit cash scheme, report says
[FoxNews] Two Navy SEALs being investigated in the strangulation death of Army Sgt. Logan Melgar in Mali in June allegedly offered the Green Beret a cut of the military money they pocketed, but he refused, according to a report.

Melgar confronted the two Navy SEALs after discovering their alleged scheme, where they reportedly took money for themselves from a fund used to pay informants, the Daily Beast reported.

The two men tried to get Melgar to join the racket, but he declined the offer, the report said. Melgar later ended up dead in what appeared to be a strangulation.

Whether the SEALs were involved in the death remained unclear as the investigation continued. The commandos were initially described as “witnesses,” but authorities later changed that to “persons of interest.” Officials said Melgar’s cause of death was “homicide by asphyxiation.”

Melgar, 34, was found dead June 4 at the U.S. Embassy housing he shared in Mali with several other special operations personnel working in West Africa on training and counterterrorism missions, the New York Times reported.

There have been no charges so far in connection with the homicide, but two member of SEAL Team 6 – the famous counterterror unit that killed Usama Bin Laden in 2011 – were placed on administrative leave, pending investigation, according to the Times.

The SEALs reportedly told their military leaders that they found Melgar and tried to save him, according to the Daily Beast. They also said Melgar was intoxicated that night as he was taking hand-to-hand fighting exercises.

The autopsy, however, showed no signs of drug or alcohol usage, according to the report.

Zimbabwe: Mugabe Family Struggles to Adjust
[All Africa] GOVERNMENT has made drastic cuts to former president Bob Muggsy Mugabe
Nonagenarian President-for-Life of Zim-bob-we who turned the former Breadbasket of Africa into the African Basket Case. Dumped in November 2017 when the Missus decided she wanted to be president, and opposed heer might against Crocodile Mnangawa Important safety tip: If your opponent goes by the name Crocodile andf your title is Shopper in Chief let him win....
's travel expenditure after the ousted long-time leader and his family flew out of Harare to Singapore this week, nearly a month after his 37-year term came to a dramatic end following a soft military coup.

This comes as it emerged that Mugabe spent US$32,1 million on foreign trips between January and September this year against an annual budget of US$20,6 million. The Office of the President and Cabinet also spent US$1,1 million on domestic travel as of September against a budget of US$650 000.

Officials close to this situation also revealed the former leader's security team at his Borrowdale "Blue Roof" mansion was also reduced from 85 to 20.

Sources familiar with developments at Mugabe's mansion told the Zim-bob-we Independent this week that the nonagenarian was granted the presidential Air Zim-bob-we aircraft (AZW1) when his family and security team left the country on Monday evening. Former first lady Grace Mugabe, the sources said, took six security personnel after resisting efforts to reduce her security details to three.

It is also understood the Police Protection Unit, which provides VIP protection, withdrew its team from Mugabe's motorcade last Friday. Following last month's military intervention, which brought a crashing end to Mugabe's authoritarian rule, his family had been scattered across different countries before reuniting last week. It has also got together in Singapore.

According to figures obtained from the 2018 National Budget, the Office of the President and Cabinet spent US$32,1 million on foreign trips, although the trips have yielded little in tangible results for Zim-bob-weans. The expenditure came at a time Treasury is struggling to pay civil servants as well as finance capital projects and social service delivery.

In a massive decline from the previous years, Treasury allocated US$17 million to the Office of the President and Cabinet for foreign travel and US$700 000 for domestic travel in the 2018 budget.

Treasury figures show that the public sector wage bill currently accounts for 90% of government income, starving other critical sectors of funding.

Mugabe flew to Singapore, where his daughter Bona, son-in-law Simba Chikore and grandson Simbanashe have been stationed since the military take-over.

Bona is expecting her second child.

Mugabe's fun-loving sons Robert Junior and Bellarmine Chatunga were staying at their affluent Sandhurst mansion in Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa, until they came back last week to face reality.

"AZW1 departed at 2100hrs with 18 crew and 23 passengers on Monday night. Mugabe had to compromise by allowing a smaller contingency, as well as a smaller security team, so that Grace could be allowed to travel with a six-member security team for herself. He also reduced the security team accompanying him, although Grace refused to take three security people with her. In the past he would have taken over 80 people," a source said.

Saudi women will also be allowed to drive motorcycles
They’re going to have to invent a motorcycle burkini for the Saudi biker babes — those black, flowing abayas they’re required to wear in public will quickly get caught in the wheels, killing the poor dears in their first minutes of independence.
[DAWN] Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
n women will be able to drive trucks and cycle of violences, officials have said three months after the kingdom announced a historic decision to end a ban on women driving.

In September, Good King Salman
...either the largest species of Pacific salmon or the current Sheikh of the Burnin' Sands, and Lord of Most of the Arabians....
issued a decree saying women will be able to drive from next June as part of an ambitious reform push in the conservative kingdom.

The Saudi General Directorate of Traffic gave details of the new regulations that will follow the lifting of the ban on the official Saudi Press Agency late on Friday.

"Yes, we will authorise women to drive cycle of violences" as well as trucks, it said, adding that the royal decree stipulates that the law on driving will be "equal" for both men and women.

There will be no special licence plate numbers for female-driven cars, it said. But women involved in road accidents or who commit traffic violations will be dealt with at special centres that will be established and run by women.

Caribbean-Latin America
Mass Arrests Paralyzes Venezuelas Energy Sector
CARACAS/HOUSTON (Reuters) - Decisions at some joint ventures with foreign firms are delayed. A growing number of oil tankers sit idle because no one authorizes payments. Employees struggle to get approval for routine expenses, from taxis to training.

An alleged crackdown on graft in Venezuela, seen by critics as an effort by President Nicolas Maduro to consolidate power, has sown panic across the country’s energy industry and all but paralyzed state-run Petroleos de Venezuela SA, or PDVSA, according to people at the company and across the sector.

The ongoing purge, in which prosecutors have arrested at least 67 executives including two recently ousted oil ministers, now threatens to further harm operations for the OPEC country, which is already producing at near 30-year-lows and struggling to run PDVSA units including Citgo Petroleum, its U.S. refiner.

Argentine navy head sacked over submarine disappearance
[Al Jazeera] Argentina
...a country located on the other side of the Deep South. It is covered with Pampers and inhabited by Grouchos, who dance the Tangle. They used to have some islands called the Malvinas located where the Falklands are now. They're not supposed to cry for Evita...
has dismissed the head of its navy a month after the disappearance of a submarine with 44 crew members on board.

The sacking of Navy Admiral Marcelo Srur came as relatives of the missing crew demonstrated on Saturday outside the presidential palace in the capital, Buenos Aires.

Carrying posters and banners, they urged authorities to continue the search until the ARA San Juan is found.

"They promised us that they would keep looking for them, exhausting all the resources," Luis Tagliapietra, father of missing crew member Damian Tagliapietra, told news hounds.

"They told me the saying 'a sailor does not leave another sailor behind'. Well, here we are, we're reminding them of that," he added.

Contact was lost with the ARA San Juan on November 15, shortly after the vessel reported an electrical problem.

Argentina officially ended its rescue mission for the vessel two weeks ago, after a noise, thought to be the submarine imploding, was detected near its last known location.

However,
a woman is only as old as she admits...
the Argentina's search for the vessel continues, supported by aircraft and ships from 18 countries, including the United Kingdom, Russia and the United States.

A-100 Makes Maiden Flight: Qualitative Leap in AWACS Capability
[StrategicCulture] November 18 was a historic date for the Russian Aerospace Forces. The A-100 Premier airborne early warning and control (AWACS) aircraft, nicknamed "a flying mushroom" due to the distinctive rotating radar dome above the fuselage, completed its maiden flight. The test was conducted by the Taganrog Aviation Scientific and Technical Complex (TANTK), located near the Sea of Azov.

The aircraft is intended to replace Russian Aerospace Forces A-50 and A-50U Mainstay aircraft beginning in 2020 ‐ about the same time as the S-500 air defense system enters service. The A-100 will be another important component of Russia’s anti-access/area-denial arsenal monitoring potentially contested air space. "This is one of [the] priorities of the current arms procurement program," Russian Deputy Defense Minister Yuri Borisov said in March 2017.

Based on the Ilyushin Il-76MD-90A military transport aircraft, the new AWACS plane will feature completely new systems: avionics, mission systems, and work stations to help reduce the workload for the flight crew and systems operators.

#3  I apologize for an unrelated post but speaking surveillance in the sky. You folks might want to see these F-18 cockpit videos. Forget the article and Harry Reid's involvement.

Starting in about 1967 it was a career problem for any Air Force crews to report objects. We had a staff member (former SAC Bomber pilot) explained the UFO kiss of death in my office. As well as two off our friends who were former Duluth Air Force radar traffic operators saying the same thing. The do not report it was the hard mantra.

Now with fighter auto filming systems we have these videos coming out. Two clips, listen to the pilots freaking out. Enjoy.

A video shows an encounter between a Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet and an unknown object. It was released by the Defense Department's Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program.

Commissioner Suggests U.N. Send Troops To Fight ‘Quiet Genocide' Of Gun Violence In Chicago
HT SCC
Some politicians in the past have recommended deploying the National Guard to help Chicago quell gun violence, but Cook County Commissioner Richard Boykin went even further on Thursday, suggesting the United Nations perhaps send in peacekeepers in the face of what he called a "quiet genocide."

Boykin was traveling to New York to meet with Oscar Fernandez-Taranco of Argentina, the U.N. Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Support, to seek international help with "horrific levels of shootings" and other violent crime in West Side and South Side communities.

"I'm hoping to appeal to the U.N. to actually come to Chicago and meet with victims of violence, and maybe even possibly help out in terms of peacekeeping efforts, because I think it’s so critical for us to make sure that these neighborhoods are safe," Boykin said at O'Hare International Airport on Thursday.

Boykin said leaders in Chicago and Cook County have failed to protect many communities from violent crime.

"There is a quiet genocide taking place in too many of our communities. Eighty percent of those who are being killed by gun violence are African American, and often killed at the hands of another African American," he said. "So we must protect these population groups, and that's what the United Nations does. They're a peacekeeping force. They know all about keeping the peace, and so we';re hopeful that they'll hear our appeal."

Boykin said Chicago must "utilize every avenue" available to protect its people from gun violence, possibly including U.N. peacekeepers.

"They've been able to help in places like Africa and abroad, where they've sent troops in and sent forces in to help protect minority and vulnerable populations, and so quite frankly I think the same can be said for here in Chicago," Boykin said. "I'm talking about physical security. I'm also talking about maybe suggestions for what we can do in Chicago to help protect our minority populations. We're being, again, decimated by the violence that we see here in Chicago. I mean this is really a genocide, and we have to do something to stop it."
He doesn't get out or read the Burg much. Idiot

I'm not saying that the deployment was necessary or well-implemented, or that the economic boost was an efficient use of money (hardly); just that it did help.
It helped that the UN troops weren't getting shot at, and that the locals had some stake in peace.

An exception that tests the rule...

In Chicago? They'd be hunkered down in bunkers. And the local gangs would be acquiring (probably from the UN troops) all sorts of fun equipment.

The M2 Carbine: America's First Assault Rifle?
[The National Interest] Germany is generally credited with developing the first assault rifle with the MP-43, which entered service with select units towards the end of 1943. Later renamed the Sturmgewehr 44‐literally "assault rifle 44"‐this used an intermediate-strength kurz cartridge that balanced the long-range accuracy of heavy, slow-firing bolt-action rifles then prevalent with the automatic-fire capability of submachine guns, which were deadlier at close quarters and capable of laying heavy suppressing fire for infantry assaults.

However, the United States was not very far behind. Late in 1944 it began issuing fully automatic M2 Carbines to Marines and U.S. Army soldiers. Therein, however, lies the controversy: can a fully-automatic "carbine" properly be described as an assault "rifle"?

#2  That "47" in AK47 is significant, too.

#3  Actually, Nazis invented everything* from about 1700 on. And by Nazis, we mean {Nazis | The Patriarchy | The White Man | Western Civilization}

* with the possible exception of peanut butter**
** also radium. Although, since Marie Curie was a white woman, that makes her an honorary Nazi
