Egypt police kill 19 involved in Coptic monastery attack; Ministry, gov’t pays compensation
[AlAhram] Egyptian police have killed 19 button men involved in an ambush that killed seven Coptic Christians south of Cairo two days ago, the interior ministry said.

Security forces tracked the "terrorists" who belong to a cell that carried out the attack to a hideout in a mountainous region west of Minya governorate, where Friday's attack took place, the ministry said in a statement published on its official Facebook page on Sunday.

The men were killed in a shootout after they opened fire on security forces as they approached them, the statement added.

The ministry published photos of bloodied bodies with their faces concealed and assault rifles and shotguns lying beside them.

Gunmen on Friday opened fire on two buses carrying Christians near the Monastery of St Samuel the Confessor in Minya, some 260 km south of Cairo, killing seven and wounding 18 others. Six of those killed were of the same family.

The attack, the latest in a series of assaults targeting the country's Christian minority, was claimed by the Islamic State

Fighting breaks out in Libya’s Sabratha
[Libya Observer] The commander of the so-called Anti-ISIS Operations Room in Sabratha (75 kilometers away from Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
) Omar Abdeljalil said they had thwarted an attack by gangs that was trying to control the city.

Abdeljalil told news hounds on Sunday that the gangs tried to enter Sabratha from the southern part but "our forces managed to foil the attack," adding that they lost nobody and none of the fighters were maimed.

High alert was announced in Sabratha Educational Hospital after maimed persons started arriving in there.

Local sources reported that fighting broke out Sunday morning between Salafist Brigade "Al-Wadi" which is under the umbrella of Anti-ISIS Operations Room that is controlling Sabratha and forces headed by Brigade 148 led by Ahmmed al-Dabbashi (A.K.A. al-Ammo) which were trying to enter the city.

"Clashes were reported in Sabratha’s Jafara district in the southern part of the city against forces of Military Council of Sabratha led by al-Taher al-Gharabli." An official at the city’s security department said, adding that study in schools was suspended and students were sent home due to the festivities, besides closing shops and state institutions due to exchange of fire started by "sleeper cells."

The Head of the military council, al-Gharabli, has not yet commented on the festivities.

Meanwhile,
...back at the revival hall, the SWAT team had finally arrived...
several media outlets linked the attack Sunday with the threats made previously by the western military zone’s commander Osama al-Juwaili who vowed to drive out Sabratha the Salafist al-Wadi Brigade.

However,
a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all...
the western military zone did not comment on the festivities.

Military commander at Libya’s Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous Operation survives assassination
[Libya Observer] The deputy chief of the Sirte Protection and Security Force (SPSF) Ali Erfida was targeted by an liquidation attempt on Sunday in al-Khums city as he was heading to Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, front man of SPSF Taha Hadid said.

Erfida was sent to al-Khums Hospital and his health condition was very critical after his car was shot at by button men.

According to local sources from al-Khums, Erfida’s body suffered several wounds and had to undergo a surgery to stop bleeding.

"There should be a swift and thorough investigation into the incident." The SPSF said in a statement.

Erfida is from al-Khums city. He was a navy officer but left to be part of al-Bunyan al-Marsous operation in the fight against ISIS, then he became a part of the SPSF.

Al-Khums is suffering from lack of security and a heavy presence for gangs with extreme ideologies such as Salafism-Madkhalism.

Armed groups also control most vital institutions and facilities in al-Khums such as the port.

Unlike certain other Salafi groups, Madkhali teachings are especially popular with more autocratic Islamic regimes around the world, as they combine the dogmatism of mainstream Salafi thought with an unwavering devotion to those in power. The national army also took control of the "Yemen

Earlier in the day, sources reported that a senior Houthi field commander was killed along with 15 other bandidos gunnies in festivities with the Yemeni army in Hodeidah.

Bahrain opposition chief gets life in jail over Qatar spy case
[PULSE.NG] Bahrain sentenced the head of the country's Shiite opposition movement to life in prison Sunday for spying for rival Gulf state Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
in a ruling rights groups have called a travesty.

Sheikh Ali Salman, who headed the now-banned al-Wefaq movement, and two of his aides had been acquitted by the high criminal court in June, a verdict the public prosecution appealed.

The public prosecutor said in a statement that the three had been unanimously sentenced by the appeals court for "acts of hostility" against Bahrain and "communicating with Qatari officials... to overthrow constitutional order".

Bahrain, along with Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and the United Arab Emirates, severed all ties with Qatar in 2017, banning their citizens from travel to or communication with the emirate over its alleged ties to both Iran and radical Islamist groups.

Sunday's verdict against the charismatic Shiite holy man can still be appealed.

Ruled for more than two centuries by the Sunni al-Khalifa dynasty, Bahrain has been hit by waves of unrest since 2011, when security forces crushed Shiite-led protests demanding a constitutional monarchy and an elected prime minister.

Opposition movements, both religious and secular, have been outlawed and hundreds of dissidents have been imprisoned -- many of them stripped of their citizenship in the process.

'UNLAWFUL VERDICT'
Salman's al-Wefaq was dissolved by court order in 2016.

Another opposition group, the leftist National Democratic Action Society, or al-Waad, was banned the following year over allegations of links to terrorists.

Salman is currently serving a four-year sentence in a separate case -- "inciting hatred" in the kingdom.

Human rights groups have said cases against activists in Bahrain -- men and women, religious and secular -- fail to meet the basic standards of fair trials.

Advocacy groups like Amnesia Amnesty International slammed Sunday's ruling against the 53-year-old Salman and his aides, Hassan Sultan and Ali al-Aswad as political reprisal.

rebels have been killed and dozens maimed in battles and air strikes over the past 24 hours in Hodeida, according to medical sources in the port city, which is a key gateway for humanitarian aid.

Military officials said Saudi-led coalition warplanes carried out dozens of air strikes early Sunday to support pro-government forces in fighting that appear to be approaching the city's main university.

Houthi media reported air strikes in Hodeida on Sunday but did not give a fighter casualty toll.

Thirteen pro-government troops were killed, according to medical sources in Aden and Mokha, where their bodies were transported.

Nearly three-quarters of the country's imports flow through Hodeida, from where they are transported by land to areas further north.

The port is controlled by Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels and under blockade by Soddy Arabia

Blasts across Baghdad kill six people, say sources
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Explosions in several Shiite-majority districts in Iraq’s capital late Sunday killed six people, most of them civilians, and maimed several others, police and medical sources said.

In northern Baghdad’s Aden roundabout area, two non-combatants were killed and another six maimed by a blast near a bus stop, the sources told AFP.

A bomb in the nearby Tarmiyah neighborhood targeted an military convoy, killing a soldier and wounding two others.

A government employee was killed in the southwestern area of al-Sahha when explosives attached under his car were detonated, according to a police officer and medical source.

In the eastern district of Sadr City, two people were killed and four maimed in two kabooms in the conservative Shiite neighborhood.

And two other blasts went off on busses in other parts of Baghdad’s northeast, wounding seven.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for any of the kabooms.

Sadr City is the former bastion of the Mahdi Army, which fought US troops and was blamed for the killings of thousands of Sunni Moslems.

The militia was led by Shiite holy man Moqtada Sadr, whose political alliance triumphed in this year’s parliamentary elections.

Violence peaked in Iraq during 2006 and 2007, when sectarian tensions were at their highest.

But it has fallen across Iraq and particularly Baghdad since the government declared victory over the ISIS myrmidon group in December.

Clandestine myrmidon cells remain across the country and have waged guerrilla-type attacks against government posts.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israel raids office of Palestinian Jerusalem governor
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Israeli forces raided the offices of the Paleostinian governor of Jerusalem on Sunday, authorities said, after reports of an investigation related to a land sale.

Israeli authorities confirmed the raid in al-Ram, just on the other side of Israel’s separation wall from Jerusalem in the occupied West Bank, but provided few details.

It came after Israel’s detention of the Paleostinian governor, Adnan Gheith, on October 20. He was released two days later.

The Paleostinian Authority’s (PA) Jerusalem affairs minister, Adnan al-Husseini, told AFP that Israeli forces confiscated documents and material during the raid.

The same building houses his ministry and the governor’s office, both of which he said were raided in the first such Israeli action.

Paleostinian government front man Yusuf Mahmud said it was a "dangerous escalation of the occupation and a flagrant violation of all international laws and agreements".

Israel’s Shin Bet domestic security agency said in a statement a joint raid with police and the army was over "illegal activity by the PA in Jerusalem".

It said "various materials were seized which will be examined by security bodies."

Asked to specify which illegal activity, the Shin Bet said only that all the Paleostinian Authority’s activity in Jerusalem was illegal.

Amid renewed tension, US forces patrol Syria’s northeast near Turkish border
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] US forces on Sunday patrolled an area in northeastern Syria bordering The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
after renewed tensions between Ankara and Syrian Kurds, a front man and an AFP news hound said.

Three armored vehicles carrying soldiers wearing the US flag on their uniform arrived in the Kurdish-held northeastern border town of al-Darbasiyah, the correspondent said.

Turkey last week raised threats against Kurdish forces in northeastern Syria, shelling their positions and flagging a possible new offensive.

The Kurds spearhead the Syrian Democratic Forces alliance, backed by the US-led coalition that has been fighting ISIS krazed killer group in Syria.

Coalition front man Sean Ryan said Sunday’s patrol was the second in a week, after a first one by US forces on Friday.

"The US forces’ assurance patrols enable us to maintain safety and security in the region," he said, but are not carried out "on a regular basis".

An SDF front man said the US patrols, in coordination with the SDF, were directly linked to recent tensions between the Kurds and Ankara.

"They are not routine patrols. They are directly linked to these threats. The objective is to call on Turkey to stop its aggression," Mustefa Bali said.

Sunday’s patrols were headed towards Ras al-Ain, around 50 kilometres (30 miles) to the west of al-Darbasiyah along the frontier, he said.

The US State Department has said it had been in touch with both the SDF and Turkey to push for de-escalation.

Turkey accuses Syria’s Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG)- which form the backbone of the SDF- of being "terrorists".

In what appeared to be an attempt by Washington to appease Turkey, US and Ottoman Turkish troops on Thursday launched joint patrols on the outskirts of the northern city of Manbij.

Although the YPG claim to have pulled out of the city after the SDF seized it from ISIS in 2016, Ankara has recently complained that the group still has a presence there, repeatedly threatening military action.

ISIS says hits Syria’s Raqqa with car bomb
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A boom-mobile went kaboom! near a military position in Syria’s Raqqa on Sunday, local authorities and a war monitor said, and ISIS hard boy group said it was behind the blast.

The blast came a day after the liquidation of a local council leader in the city, the former Syrian capital of the krazed killer group’s self-declared caliphate, which was seized a year ago by US-backed Kurdish-led fighters.

Raqqa security forces said a civilian had been killed and several people, including civilians and fighters injured. The war monitor, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said the blast caused "a large number" of casualties.

ISIS said in a statement that it had detonated the bomb, targeting fighters from the Kurdish YPG militia, the strongest element in the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) group that drove the Lions of Islam from Raqqa last year.

The SDF is battling ISIS fighters in one of their last patches of territory in Syria, along the north bank of the Euphrates river close to the Iraqi border.

The Lions of Islam took advantage of bad weather on Sunday to attack SDF positions, killing a dozen fighters, the Observatory
reported.

Syrian state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
reported on Sunday that the Syrian army was assaulting the hard boys’ other remaining pocket of ground in the desert area in Sweida province in southern Syria.
