Khalid added that the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces believe in a dignified peace, but warned that the forces are ready to suppress the Taliban if the group defies reconciliation.

"We will avenge every drop of the blood of our 26 martyred officers. We will also address the issue of negligence," Khalid reiterated.

"We are planning together. As partners, it has been extremely productive," said US Army General Randy George, a commander of the Resolute Support forces in Afghanistan. "I have been here before. Europe
Migrants scramble aboard Calais ferry, sparking police sweep
[Rudaw] Dozens of migrants colonists hoping to reach Britannia scrambled aboard a cross-Channel ferry in northern La Belle France, sparking a 12-hour manhunt as police combed the ship to find them, officials said Sunday.

Around 100 migrants colonists broke into the dock area of the port of Calais late Saturday, and dozens managed to get onboard the ferry that had just arrived from the English port of Dover.

A total of 63 migrants colonists were detained, many of whom had tried to hide aboard the Danish-operated DFDS 'Calais Seaways', regional authorities said.

On Sunday morning, firemen talked down the last group of about a dozen migrants colonists who had climbed high above the deck to a catwalk attached to the ship's funnel.

Prosecutors at nearby Boulogne said these people were still in jug. Twelve people were due to appear in court. Others were released with a warning because they were minors or for lack of evidence.

The migrants colonists managed to get aboard the ferry by using a maintenance ladder at high tide, senior regional official Jean-Philippe Vennin told AFP.

"Two of the migrants colonists fell into the sea and were quickly rescued by firemen," he added.

Police offloaded vehicles arriving from Britannia on the ferry before making a top-to-bottom search of the ship.

Those detained were taken to Calais police headquarters, Vennin said.

AN 'ORCHESTRATED OPERATION'
Cross-Channel ferry traffic was delayed overnight with at least two forced to remain at sea before being allowed into port.

The 'Calais Seaways' was itself moved overnight so the harbour could resume operations.

To reach the port area, "the migrants colonists crossed a pedestrian gangway normally used by employees and I am convinced the place had been cased and that last night's operation was orchestrated by people smugglers," harbour master Jean-Marc Puissesseau told news hounds after the police search ended.

"It's not normal to have 100 migrants colonists break into a secure area such as a harbour. There must be a failure somewhere," local mayor Natacha Bouchart said, before blaming police force cutbacks.

"We must reinforce our police forces on the eve of Brexit which people smugglers exploit in a bid to promote their trafficking," regional president Xavier Bertrand said on Twitter.

Herve Krych, a lawyer for four of the migrants colonists in jug, said his clients were alright overall.

"I'm delighted that this ended with so few injuries and human damage given the exceptional and dangerous circumstances that we saw that night.

For the moment, it was not clear to what extent it had been organised or just a spontaneous action, he added.

SEEKING NEW ROUTES
Sunday's incident was unusual by its scale, and this despite introduction of costly security features around the port including barb wire, grill-fencing and additional surveillance cameras.

Despite the best efforts of the authorities migrants colonists, many from Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran, and smugglers have diversified ways of trying to cross the Channel.

Many still hide in trucks headed to the ports, but more recently others have attempted to cross the Channel aboard small vessels and lifeboats stolen from local harbours or acquired by traffickers.

On Friday, a French court tossed in the slammer

two Iraqis and an Iranian for organising illegal migrant boat trips to Britannia.

A 30-year-old Iranian, considered the group leader, received an 18-month sentence, while his two accomplices, aged 39 and 32, were each tossed in the slammer
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
for a year.

Some 500 people attempted to cross the Channel last year -- most of them in November and December, compared with just 13 such known attempts in 2017.

French interior ministry figures showed that 276 people successfully reached British waters.

In December, London dispatched a Royal Navy cutter to help coastguard vessels survey the 21 miles (33 kilometres) of sea that separates La Belle France and Britannia at its narrowest point.

India-Pakistan
Pakistani drone shot down near Rajasthan border
[Daily Excelsior] A Pak Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) was Monday shot down at international boundary in Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan, sources said.

Around 11:30 am, the UAV was detected by Indian Air Defence radars, the sources added.

The sources said Sukoi-30 MKIs were involved in this action.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) immediately scrambled Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jets from the Nal Airforce Station, located on the outskirts of Bikaner.

The jets took to the skies and shot down the UAV by firing an air-to-air missile.

The UAV’s debris landed in Pakistain on a sand dune name MW Toba.
An Nahar adds:
It was the second attempt by Pakistain to send a drone inside India in the last six days after one was shot down on February 27, the Press Trust of India (PTI) news agency reported

There was no official comment from either side.

Both sides have continued to fire artillery and mortars over their de-facto border in Kashmire, the Line of Control (LoC), killing several civilians on both sides.

This continued on Monday, both countries said, but no new casualties were reported. Pakistain said a soldier killed on Saturday was "buried with full military honour for defending the motherland."

Intermittment firing along LoC continues: ISPR
[DAWN] The military's media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), issued a situation update Monday to notify that Indian troops had initiated firing in the Neza Pir, Pandu, Khanjar Munawar, Battal and Baghsar sectors along the Line of Control (LoC) and intermittent firing was continuing.

"Pakistain Army troops responded effectively to Indian fire targeting Indian posts," the ISPR said, adding that there were no casualties on the Pakistain side in the past 24 hours.

"Pakistain armed forces continue state of alert and vigilance," the statement added.

As per the military's media wing, funeral prayers for Naik Khuram, who was martyred while returning fire to Indian posts firing from across the LoC on Saturday, were offered in Dera Ghazi Khan today.

Government issues order to seize assets of all banned outfits under UN sanctions regime
[DAWN] The federal government on Monday issued an order to streamline the process for implementation of sanctions against individuals and entities designated by the United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
Security Council, the Foreign Office announced.

The United Nations Security Council (Freezing and Seizure) Order, 2019, has been issued in accordance with the provisions of Pakistain’s United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Act, 1948.

Interpreting the order, FO Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal said it means that the government has taken over the control of all proscribed outfits operating in the country.

"[From now onwards], all kinds of assets and properties of all [banned] organizations will be in the government's control," the spokesperson told DawnNewsTV.

He added that the government will now also seize the charity wings and ambulances of such banned outfits.

"The objective of the [order] is to streamline the procedure for implementation of Security Council Sanctions against designated individuals and entities," the FO spokesperson said in a statement.

The handout explained that the UN Charter authorises the UNSC to decide measures, "not involving the use of armed force", that governments should implement to give effect to the council's decisions for the maintenance of international peace and security.

Iraq
Iraqi court sentences two men to death over shrine bombing
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) ‐ An Iraqi court has sentenced two men to death by hanging for their involvement in a suicide kaboom at a religious shrine in the central province of Salahudin.

"The Karkh criminal court has looked into the case of two defendants involved in a suicide kaboom that targeted visitors of a religious shrine in Balad district of Salahudin, leaving scores dead and maimed," Alghad Press quoted the media center of the Supreme Judicial Council of Iraq as saying in a statement on Monday.

The two defendants admitted that the attack "was only meant to achieve terrorist ends and undermine security and stability in the country," the statement read.

The court ruling was issued pursuant to article 4/1 of the anti-terrorism law, added the statement.

The law empowers courts to convict people who are believed to have helped jihadists even if they are not accused of carrying out attacks.

IDF helicopters pound Hamas positions in response to explosive balloon
[IsraelTimes] Army says two posts hit after incendiary lands in southern community; Eshkol Regional Council later reports 2 more kabooms from airborne explosives.

IDF attack helicopters hit two positions of the Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw, terror group in the southern Gazoo Strip on Monday in response to an bomb that was carried into Israel by balloons launched from the Paleostinian enclave, the army said.

It was Israel’s fourth retaliatory Arclight airstrike against the terror group in the past three days.

It came after a bunch of balloons carrying explosives came down between two buildings in the Eshkol Regional Council, the council said in a statement. The bomb went kaboom! but caused neither injuries nor damage.

On Sunday night an Israeli military drone bombed a Hamas position in the northern Gazoo Strip in response to a violent riot along the border nearby, according to Paleostinian media.

U.S. Sends THAAD To Israel For First Time
[THEDRIVE] The U.S. military has sent interceptors and other components of the Terminal High Altitude Air Defense ballistic missile defense system, or THAAD, to Israel for an exercise the first time. The deployment comes as both countries have been especially critical of Iran’s ballistic missile programs, but also reflects a contingency plan that has been in place for more than a decade.

U.S. European Command said that deployment had occurred "in early March," according to an official blurb on Mar. 4, 2019. The date stamp on pictures the U.S. Army subsequently released indicated that the first elements had arrived at Nevatim Air Base in central Israel on Mar. 1, 2019. The notice also added that the exercise is occurring at the direction of Acting Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan and is a demonstration of the Pentagon’s "Dynamic Force Employment concept." Secretary of Defense James Mattis first announced this operational concept, which aims to make it harder for the U.S. military's opponents to predict its operations and other activities in advance, in 2018.

Southeast Asia
Troops clash with Abus in Basilan
[PNA] Philippine troops clashed with Abu Sayyaf militants led by an associate of Isnilon Hapilon on Friday morning.

Western Mindanao Command spokesman Gerry Besana said no one was injured among the troops while the rebels, led by Basilan-based Abu Sayyaf leader Puruji Indama, were believed to have suffered casualties. Indama was a known associate of Hapilon, the self-declared emir of the Islamic State in Southeast Asia, who was killed during the siege on Marawi City in 2017.

Citing a report from the 104th Infantry Brigade, Besana said the clash happened in Ungkaya Pukan, Basilan province. He said the troops under the 18th Infantry Battalion were on security patrol when they chanced upon Indama's group. The clash lasted for about 30 minutes.

Hostages reported safe following firefight
[Star] A Malaysian and two Indonesians held by Abu Sayyaf militants are safe after the rebels trying to escape from Jolo island were caught in a gunfight with the Philippine military earlier this week.

It has been learned that the group with the hostages were trying to flee Jolo when the military closed in on the group on Simisa island, off Jolo, on Wednesday. Soldiers managed to capture a pair of insurgents and killed a militant during the clash at Simisa. The captured pair were identified as Nurlinda Sulaiman and her husband, Abdu Mohammad.

However, the Abu Sayyaf gunmen led by the notorious kidnapper Salip Mura managed to return to their hideout. The three captives are unharmed, and the gunmen have brought them back to the Panamao area (Jolo), a regional intelligence source said.

The three fishermen – Malaysian Jari Abdullah, and Indonesians Heri Ardiansyah, and Hariadin – were taken from their fishing trawler in the Kinabatangan side of the Pegasus Reefs that borders southern Philippines.

(ISIS/ISIS/IS/ISIS) figure was killed during the heavy U.S. bombardment last night.

The Islamic State commander Jamal Khaled Masoulkh (AKA "Abu Khaled al-Ansari") was killed at the Baghouz Camp last night when the U.S. Coalition unleashed a massive assault on the terrorist group’s Euphrates bastion.

According to reports, Masoulkh was the deputy commander of the Islamic State in al-Raqqa before he moved to eastern Syria.

Once he moved to the Deir Ezzor Governorate, Masoulkh took command of the Islamic State forces along the eastern bank of the Euphrates River.

The U.S. attack on the Baghouz Camp caught the attention of several observers last night, as the heavy bombs caused massive kabooms that were recorded by nearby photojournalists.

High ranking Chechen jihadist killed by Syrian Army in northern Hama
[ALMASDARNEWS] A high ranking jihadist commander from Chechnya was killed by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in the northern countryside of the Hama Governorate on Sunday.

According to reports from northern Hama, the Syrian Arab Army killed the deputy emir of Tanzim Ansar al-Tawhid, Khamza al-Shishani, after he and his forces attempted to attack their positions on Sunday morning.

Taking advantage of the poor weather, Tanzim Ansar al-Tawhid launched a heavy assault on the Syrian Arab Army’s positions in northern Hama.

They were initially successful after overrunning the first line of the Syrian Arab Army’s defenses; however, their assault would turn disastrous after the latter launched a counter-attack.

Jihadist ambush attempt turns disastrous as Syrian Army troops gun down militants
Turnabout is fair play, right?
[ALMASDARNEWS] For the third time in the last 72 hours, the jihadist rebels attempted to infiltrate the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) defenses in northwestern Syria.

According to a military source in Hama, the jihadist rebels attempted to sneak towards the Syrian Arab Army’s positions from the southern axis of Sukeek in the Idlib countryside.

However,
ars longa, vita brevis...
the jihadist infiltration attempt would take a turn for the worse shortly before midnight, as the Syrian Arab Army troops in the area spotted the Lions of Islam before they could reach their intended target.

The military source in Hama told al-Masdar that the Syrian Arab Army managed to gun down almost all of the jihadist rebels after they frantically retreated towards Sukeek.

At the same time, a Syrian Arab Army unit at the northern Hama front carried out a new missile strike on a rebel vehicle that was traveling near the town of al-Latamnah.

The Syrian Army reportedly destroyed the vehicle using their anti-tank guided missile.

Militants kill 33 pro-Assad fighters in north-west
[DAWN] At least 33 pro-regime fighters were killed on Sunday in attacks mounted by jihadist groups near Idlib province, in the deadliest day in six months for loyalist forces, a monitor said.

Twenty-seven fighters were killed in two attacks by Ansar al-Tawhid jihadists, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

"Five jihadists were also killed," said Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the Britannia-based monitoring group.

Ansar al-Tawhid has ties to the larger Hurras al-Deen group, which is also active in the area of northwest Syria. Both are considered semi-officials franchises of Al Qaeda in Syria.

The area of Idlib and small parts of the adjacent provinces of Hama and Aleppo are mostly controlled by the rival Hayat Tahrir al-Sham
organization.

HTS is led by fighters who formerly belonged to Al Qaeda’s ex-affiliate in Syria.

The attacks by Ansar al-Tawhid were carried out against regime positions in Masasna, a village in Hama province, the Observatory said.

A military source quoted by state news agency SANA confirmed soldiers had been killed and maimed in the attacks on their positions near Idlib province.

Loyalists forces had killed some assailants, the source added without giving figures.

The foreign ministry said Syria "will not allow bandidos bandidos holy warriors and those who are behind them to carry on with their attacks against innocent civilians and the armed forces".

In Latakia province, also northwest of the capital, at least six pro-regime fighters were killed in attacks by HTS Lions of Islam later on Sunday, the Observatory said.

According to Abdel Rahman, the latest spate of attacks caused "one of the highest casualty figures among regime ranks since the Putin-Erdogan deal".

He was referring to an accord struck in the Russian resort of Sochi by Russian President Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
and his Ottoman Turkish counterpart Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
Under the Sept 17 truce deal, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
would exert its influence over anti-regime groups in the Idlib region to have them pull back fighters and heavy weapons from a demilitarised zone.

It was meant to stave off a planned offensive by the regime and its Russian backers that aid groups feared could spark the eight-year-old Syrian conflict’s worst humanitarian crisis to date.

The government assault on the last major bastion of rebel forces has been held off but the deal’s provisions have not been implemented.

Since the Sochi agreement, HTS has consolidated its grip on Idlib province.

Assault on Baghouz slows as ISIS resorts to using 'human shields', 150 turbans & 400 shields surrender
Also see Twitter #Baghouz.
[Rudaw] The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) will decrease the speed of their Jazira Storm operation to liberate al-Baghouz, the last ISIS-controlled town east of the Euphrates in Syria, for humanitarian reasons.

"We’re slowing down the offensive in Baghouz due to a small number of civilians held as human shields by ISIS," Mustafa Bali, the head of the SDF Media Office, tweeted early on Monday morning, using another term for the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS).

The SDF, backed by the forces of the US-led international coalition, restarted Operation Roundup on Friday after a lull.

"However we assert that the battle to retake the last ISIS holdout is going to be over soon," reiterated Bali ‐ similar to a statement that he made on Saturday.

Bali revealed that coalition Arclight airstrikes are continuing to provide air cover and ISIS is using vehicle-bourne improvised bomb (VBIEDs).

"Several boom-mobiles were destroyed by coalition airstrikes during the last two days of battle here in Baghouz. 3 VBIEDS that were trying to hit our positions were destroyed by SDF fighters," he tweeted.

SDF forces, which have taken up positions on a hill, surrounded ISIS in an area "300-500m," according to Rojava Information Center (RIC).

RIC also reported "the situation was quiet" on Sunday night, "save for 1 airstrike at [7:50 p.m.]

The YPG posted video on Facebook of apparent festivities between SDF and ISIS fighters early Sunday morning.

The coalition's Operation Roundup began on May 1, 2018, with the aim to clear ISIS from the Middle Euphrates River Valley ‐ the group's last bastion east of the river.
Al Ahram adds:
Kurdish-led forces supported by air strikes from an international coalition evacuated civilians held as "human shields" Monday.

An SDF spokeswoman said hundreds had been evacuated out of the crumbling bastion in the past 48 hours.

"More than 800 people exited Baghouz from yesterday until today -- IS group family members and fighters who surrendered," she said.

Three air strikes hit the village of Baghouz earlier in the day, causing a huge cloud of smoke to billow up into the sky.

On Sunday, eight suicide kaboomers blew themselves up before reaching SDF positions and three boom-mobiles were detonated at a distance, the Kurdish-led forces said.

Seven SDF members and 18 jihadists have been killed in the fighting since the final push started, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says.
And from the Jerusalem Post:
Some 150 Islamic State fighters have surrendered to U.S.-backed forces in Baghouz, the jihadist group's last enclave in eastern Syria, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitoring group said on Monday.

The Islamic State fighters were among 400 people to leave the area on Monday after the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces staged an assault in recent days, the Observatory said.
