Suspect held in shootout near US-Mexico border; Texas trooper 'critical' but stable
[FOXNEWS] A Texas state trooper was in critical but stable condition early Sunday after being shot while approaching a driver who had fled from a crash scene not far from the U.S.-Mexico border, authorities said.

Further information on the trooper’s condition, along with his name, was not immediately available.

The trooper was shot multiple times late Saturday and rushed to an Edinburg hospital, where he underwent surgery and was "fighting for his life," Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra wrote on Twitter. Edinburg is about 64 miles northwest of Brownsville in the state's border region.

At the time, multiple law enforcement and government sources told the Rio Grande Valley's KGBT-TV that the trooper was left "brain dead," but that has yet to be confirmed.

The suspect, identified as Victor Alejandro Godinez, evaded immediate capture but was taken into custody early Sunday in the Edinburg area, authorities said. Police later confirmed that Godinez is a U.S. citizen and resident of Edinburg.

The unidentified trooper was responding to a report of a vehicle crash around 8:45 p.m. Saturday, when the driver fled on foot, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) said in a statement. The trooper was shot after locating the suspect.

Major showdown brewing in Tripoli as rival Libyan forces clash near capital city
[ALMASDARNEWS] An important battle is brewing in northwestern Libya as the Ottoman Turkish-backed forces from the Government of General Accords and Egyptian-backed Libyan National Army (LNA) prepare to square off in the capital city of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
Using his battle-tested forces, General Khalifah Haftar has managed to seize much of the country from terrorist groups like the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. (ISIS/ISIS/IS/ISIS) and al-Qaeda, along with the Ottoman Turkish-backed Government of General Accords.

With the recent capture Gariyan in northwestern Libya, the Haftar-led forces have besieged the Government of General Accords south of Tripoli city.

Furthermore, the Haftar-led Libyan National Army is now within striking distance of Tripoli for the first time since the second phase of the Libyan War began.

While the Government of General Accords is in no doubt serious trouble, they may get bailed out by their Ottoman Turkish allies, who have already sent much needed military aid to the forces in Tripoli.

Should The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
mimic their moves in Syria, which saw them enter the Idlib and Aleppo governorates to the block the Syrian government forces from taking these territories, they could ultimately force the Libyan National Army to halt their operations around the capital.

However,
there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
the likelihood of the Ottoman Turkish military deploying to Tripoli is very slim, especially given that the Libyan National Army is already at the outskirts of the capital city.

The United Nations
...aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society...
Secretary-General Antonio Guterres did meet with Haftar on Friday, but it is unlikely that he was able to persuade the Libyan general to abort his military initiate.

LNA forces advance on Tripoli
[ALMASDARNEWS] Forces of the Libyan National Army (LNA) are moving into positions around Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, according to a statement made by LNA front man Ahmed Mismari from an undisclosed location on Friday.

Mismari explained that these actions are part of ’Operation Flood of Dignity’ and said that "the goal of ’Operation Flood of Dignity’ is the liberation of Tripoli and of all Libya."

He addressed people living in the Tripoli area, stating that "our army is coming to you in order to save you from turbans and criminals so that you can live in safety and with dignity."

He added that five soldiers had died thus far in ’Flood of Dignity’ which had already moved into the towns of Gharyan and Aziziya in the country’s northwest before closing in on Tripoli’s coastal airport.

On Friday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres met with LNA head Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
in Benghazi, after which he commented to the media that he was hoping "it will be possible to avoid a bloody confrontation in and around Tripoli."

"The United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
remain available to facilitate any political solution able to unify the Libyan institutions. Whatever happens, the UN will remain committed, and I will remain committed, to support the Libyan people," Guterres added.

ISIS movements detected in disputed Qarachogh
[Rudaw] Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. (ISIS) Lions of Islam are moving around openly and levying taxes on villagers living at the foot of Mount Qarachogh in the disputed territory of Makhmour, local residents told Rudaw.

Peshmerga forces control the summit of Mount Qarachogh, 60 km southwest of Erbil, but were forced out of the towns and villages of the valleys below when the Iraqi Army and Shiite paramilitias seized control of Makhmour in October 2017.

Although ISIS was declared defeated in Iraq in December of that year, remnants of the group continue to operate in the disputed no man’s land between Peshmerga lines and Iraqi Security Forces (ISF).

Just like the Hamrin Mountains of Saladin province, Qarachogh appears to have become a strategic base for ISIS to launch attacks, abductions, and liquidations and to regroup.

Photographs taken by one villager allegedly show ISIS Lions of Islam moving around in open daylight. Others say the group controls the villages, regularly demanding zakat (the Islamic tax) in the form of sheep and goats and extorting money.

Ghazi Faisal, whose family fled their village of Allia Rash, told Rudaw the Lions of Islam are hiding out in caves and tunnels.

Zryan Sheikh Wasani, the Peshmerga commander in Qarachogh, says his forces must be allowed to return to the disputed territories to flush out the Lions of Islam before ISIS regains its strength.

Gazan shepherd arrested by Israel revealed Islamic Jihad terror plot — report

Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. plot to conduct a terror attack along the Gazoo border from a member of the group who was captured by security forces last week, a Paleostinian newspaper reports.

a Paleostinian herding sheep near the Gazoo security fence. Under interrogation, he reportedly told them he was a member of PIJ and revealed that the group was planning to abduct either a soldier stationed near the border or a civilian worker constructing the new barrier around the coastal enclave.

The Islamic Jihad has denied that it was planning to conduct an attack along the border, which could derail Egyptian-brokered ceasefire negotiations between Israel and terror groups in the Strip, telling the Egyptian military that it planned to uphold any agreement reached.

Over 200 US-backed fighters allegedly defect to Syrian Army in Al-Hasakah
[ALMASDARNEWS] A large number of fighters from the Syrian Democratic Forces have allegedly joined the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in the al-Hasakah Governorate of northeast Syria, the Fars News Agency claimed on Saturday.

"Over 200 SDF fighters have recently defected and surrendered to the Syrian Army in Hasaka province," a battlefield source told the Fars News Agency.

The Fars News sources said claimed that 1,000 people have been forced to join the ranks of the Syrian Democratic Forces in the al-Hasakah Governorate.

"The sources pointed to people’s discontent and anger from the Kurdish forces’ measures, and said that a group of civilians have recently engaged in fierce festivities with the SDF members in an SDF garrison in Northern Hasaka," the Fars News report added.

The Arabic-language al-Arabiya news website quoted informed sources in al-Hasakah as saying that 15 SDF fighters, including their senior commanders, have also defected from the group.

They added that the defected SDF members escaped to the regions controlled by the Syrian Army inside Hasakah city, noting that the SDF put its units on high alert after the incident.

"Over 40 SDF forces have defected in Raqqa and joined the Syrian Army after laying down their arms in al-Tabaqa in Western Raqqa," the Arabic-language service of the Russian Sputnik News Agency reported.

It noted that over 100 youth in Raqqa had also received amnesty after leaving the SDF-controlled areas for government-held territories.

The two nurses were killed at the Masyaf National Hospital, which was heavily targeted by the jihadist rebels in the Idlib Governorate.

The Syrian Arab Army has responded to this attack by firing several missiles across Idlib, hitting a number of towns in the eastern, southern, and western parts of the governorate.

The total number of casualties from the Syrian Army attack is still unknown at this time; however, opposition activists said one missile hit a market in Saraqib.

These tit-for-tat attacks in northwestern Syria have been ongoing for several months now, despite the implementation of the Sochi agreement, which called on all parties to adhere to avoid hostilities within the 20km long demilitarized zone.
Rudaw adds:
Syrian government forces and Death Eaters exchanged a barrage of rockets on Sunday in the country’s northwest that killed at least 13 people and hit a government-run hospital, activists and government media reported.

The head of the local hospital in government-held Massyaf said bad boy shelling killed a rescue worker and four other people. Maher Younis told the state-run Ikhbariya TV that five children who were arriving at the hospital and two dentists were maimed.

The bad boys’ fire came amid heightened tensions following days of government fire on villages and towns on the edge of the enclave.

Opposition-allied first responders known as the White Helmets said government shelling killed at least eight people, including one child, in Saraqeb and Nairab towns in eastern Idlib. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights put the corpse count at nine. The activist-run Shaam news agency said the shelling in Saraqeb hit civilians who were visiting a local government office.

, and Turkey, which supports opposition factions, reached the truce deal in September. It set up a demilitarized zone on the edge of the rebel-held enclave which was to be cleared of turbans.

But since the deal, al-Qaeda-linked murderous Moslems have expanded their presence in the enclave, seizing land from other gangs.

The government so far has kept up limited military pressure. Experts say government forces are focused on opening key highways that pass through Idlib, linking northern Syria to the capital, Damascus. Opening the highways was one of the key provisions in the September deal.
