Sudan opposition says 20 killed since rally at army HQ held
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Armed men wearing masks have killed 20 people in morning attacks against anti-government protesters massed outside the army headquarters in Sudan’s capital, the country’s main opposition leader said on Tuesday.

Sadiq al-Mahdi, former premier and now a protest organizer against President Omar al-Bashir
Head of the National Congress Party. He came to power in 1989 when he, as a brigadier in the Sudanese army, led a group of officers in a bloodless military coup that ousted the government of Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi and eventually appointed himself president-for-life. He has fallen out with his Islamic mentor, Hasan al-Turabi, tried to impose shariah on the Christian and animist south, resulting in its secessesion, and attempted to Arabize Darfur by unleashing the barbaric Janjaweed on it. Sudan's potential prosperity has been pissed away in warfare that has left as many as 400,000 people dead and 2.5 million displaced. Omar has been indicted for genocide by the International Criminal Court but nothing is expected to come of it.
’s government, said the attacks had been carried out every morning since the sit-in began on April 6.

"There are gunnies in masks attacking people at the sit-in every morning," Mahdi, chief of the opposition National Umma Party, told news hounds in Omdurman, the twin city of Khartoum.

"This has left 20 deaders."

Sudan’s Interior Minister Bushara Juma said on Monday that seven protesters died, including six in the state of Khartoum, when security forces dispersed anti-government protests held on April 6.

Officials say 38 people have died so far in protest related violence since demonstrations erupted across Sudan December.

Thousands of protesters have massed outside the army headqurters for a fourth straight day, demanding that the military's top brass back them in demanding Bashir’s resignation.

The demonstration is the latest in nearly four months of anti-government protests that have plunged Sudan into its worst crisis in years. What initially erupted late last year as rallies against a spiraling economy quickly escalated into calls for an end to President Omar al-Bashir’s 30-year rule.

On Monday for the first time, leaders of the protests called on the military’s leadership to abandon al-Bashir and join their call for change. And on Tuesday, they invited military leaders to meet with their representatives to "discuss arrangements for a transition" in Sudan.

In a joint statement on Tuesday, Norway, the UK and the US backed the protesters’ demands, urging Sudanese authorities to "deliver a credible plan" for political transition.

"Failing to do so risks causing greater instability. The Sudanese leadership has a grave responsibility to avoid such an outcome," they said.

Sarah Abdel-Jaleel, spokeswoman for the Sudanese Professionals Association, said the new festivities erupted early on Tuesday between security forces and protesters who have been camping out in front of the military complex in Khartoum for the past four days.

Libyan war escalates amid lack of U.S strategy for secret missions in Africa
[Yahoo] The advance of a rogue militia on Tripoli, the capital city of Libya, has forced the hasty evacuation of U.S. troops from that country, highlighting the lack of a cohesive strategy for ongoing U.S. military operations in Africa and a seeming White House ambivalence about the continent, according to former officials.

For several years, from a handful of outposts in Libya, U.S. special operators have been conducting counterterrorism missions with names like Obsidian Lotus and Odyssey Resolve. These are just two of dozens of named operations that, largely unknown to the American public, have been launched from a string of bases across the northern half of Africa, according to information obtained by Yahoo News via the Freedom of Information Act.

Despite the large number of military operations in the region, some former officials say neither the Obama administration nor the current White House has taken much interest in coming up with a coherent policy for U.S. military operations on the continent. "During my time at the White House with the Trump administration there wasn’t a great deal of concern about doing much in northern Africa," said a former official who recently served on the National Security Council. "There was not a lot of interest or focus on Africa during the time I was there."

President Donald Trump, who reportedly referred to African states as "shithole countries" in January 2018, has faced criticism for essentially ignoring the continent. But in December, his administration announced a new Africa strategy, which a National Security Council spokesperson said committed the United States to helping its African allies build up their security forces while reserving the right to take unilateral action "when necessary to protect the homeland or United States citizens and interests."

#1  I agree with Trump, it is a Outhouse dumping ground.

Having worked around SFOD-D and lost 2 good friends in Somalia (Oct 3rd and 4th). The military's role is to protect the USA and its Citizens, to neutralize or kill all threats including terrorist trainers and 3rd party/proxy supporters. After pumping BILLIONS into Africa we have little show but more TERRORISTS.

I feel simply reducing $$$ only to countries activity eliminating terrorism, closing down Open Borders and restricting Immigration to those that have had detailed background checks, a viable employment skill, want to become part of America, learn basic English, accept our laws, customs, culture and NOT a setup separated communities. Would solve a lot of the Terrorist issues.

Britain and Jordan's secret war in Libya
[Middle East Eye] Middle East Eye confirms that British and Jordanian special forces are secretly battling Islamic State fighters in Libya.

Britain has launched covert military operations in Libya against Islamic State (IS) militants with the support of Jordan, Middle East Eye can reveal.

Soldiers from the elite Special Air Service (SAS) regiment have been sent to tackle an emerging IS threat in Libya as part of a global war against the group, and Britain has recruited Jordanian special forces to provide local intelligence, according to Jordanian King Abdullah II Ibn Hussein.

It is the first official confirmation that British troops are operating inside Libya against IS.

MEE has obtained a detailed account of a meeting Abdullah held with US congressional leaders in January, when he revealed the previously unreported deployment of British and Jordanian special forces in Libya.

According to the account, sent on the condition of anonymity by a source close to the meeting, Abdullah said that he expected covert military operations in Libya to increase after the meeting, which was held in the week of 11 January. He told his American audience that Jordanian special forces would be embedded with their British counterparts.

Africa Subsaharan
2,000 flee Nigeria village ahead of army offensive against Boko Haram
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Some 2,000 people have been forced to flee to the northeastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri ahead of a major offensive against Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
, emergency services and residents told AFP on Tuesday.

Nigerian troops herded residents of Jakana village into trucks and ferried them 40 kilometers to a displacement camp in the Borno State capital, said a National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) front man.

Evacuated residents were taken to "Bakassi IDP (internally displaced persons) Camp by the military for their safety as a result of ongoing operations to flush out hard boyz in the area," said Abdulkadir Ibrahim.

Camp officials were "mobilizing resources" to care for their basic needs, he added.

The residents of Jakana said they were given no notice.

Modu Kaka said: "The soldiers came this morning and told us to assemble and began herding us into trucks.

"We left all our possessions in Jakana and we are now dependent on food aid."

Bakassi is one of several camps in the city housing thousands of displaced people, who live in squalid shelters and rely on food handouts from aid agencies.

An unnamed military official in the city said the evacuation was in preparation for a "big operation" against the Islamic State

Jakana lies on a known crossing route for ISWAP fighters moving between their camps in the Benisheikh forest area of Borno and their hideouts in the Buni Yadi area of neighboring Yobe state.

Turkey Detains Dozens More over Alleged Coup Ties
[AnNahar] Ottoman Turkish police on Tuesday detained over 100 individuals nationwide for suspected ties to the group blamed for a 2016 attempted coup, state media reported.

Tens of thousands of people have been taken into custody over alleged ties to US-based Moslem preacher Fethullah Gülen
... a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania whom the current govt of Turkey considers responsible for all the ills afflicting Turkey and possibly the entire world...
since the failed coup while over 140,000 public sector employees have been sacked or suspended.

After public prosecutors in several cities including the capital Ankara and coastal city of Izmir issued over 400 arrest warrants, 127 suspects were detained, according to numbers provided by state news agency Anadolu.

Raids to catch the others continued.

Individuals sought included former coppers and others accused of using the encrypted ByLock messaging application which authorities suspect was used by Gulen's supporters to coordinate the coup bid, the agency reported.

Ottoman Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
accuses Gulen of ordering the failed coup but the Pennsylvania-based preacher denies the claims.

The raids across The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund....
have shown no sign of slowing down, with hundreds of detentions in recent months despite heavy criticism from Western allies and rights activists who say the arrests are part of a crackdown on dissent.

Ottoman Turkish officials say the raids are necessary to remove Gulen's influence in state institutions.

Villagers in Kurdistan Region ‘terrified’ by Turkish bombardment: mukhtar
[Rudaw] A village in northern Erbil province near the border with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
has been under Ottoman Turkish bombardment for days, according to the head of the village.

The bombardment started around 9 p.m. on Monday about 20 kilometres from Kolka, chieftain Sadeq Aziz told Rudaw. The Ottoman Turkish Army was targeting alleged positions of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), he said.

The shelling lasted for about two hours, Aziz added, describing the villagers as "terrified."

Ghafour Mala Swar, the mayor of nearby Mergasor, said Turkey was using helicopters to target Mount Kawaret. He said they have not seen PKK active in the area.

Kolka is located in the Mergasor district.

Turkey’s Ministry of Defence announced on Monday they had targeted PKK positions in the Khaukurk and Avasin areas along the border area, destroying some weapons' positions and shelters.

Aziz believes Turkey’s shelling may be in retaliation for a recent attack by the PKK who he said killed a number of Ottoman Turkish soldiers in barracks near his village.

A resident of Kolka confirmed the PKK recently carried out an attack on Ottoman Turkish soldiers near the village.

"The Ottoman Turkish military base is opposite our village. A few days ago, the PKK attacked them. Because of this, the Ottoman Turkish Army has fortified their base. The perimeter of the base is fortified with electricity," a source who spoke on condition of anonymity told Rudaw.

The village itself has not been targeted, the source added, but people are afraid because of the intensity and proximity of the shelling.

Video shared on a local Facebook page showed intense shelling Monday night.

Rudaw could not independently verify the authenticity of the footage.

Turkey regularly conducts military operations against alleged PKK positions in the Kurdistan Region’s mountains. Two Ottoman Turkish soldiers were killed in a skirmish last month.

Bomb blast kills Iraqi soldier, wounds two others in Diyala
Diyala (IraqiNews.com) ‐ Three Iraqi soldiers were killed and maimed Tuesday in a kaboom in the eastern province of Diyala, a security source was quoted as saying.

"A soldier was martyred and two others were maimed when an explosive charge targeted their armored vehicle at Ibrahim el-Mazkour village on the outskirts of Buhriz, east of Baqubah," the source told IKH News on Tuesday.

"Army forces have been deployed to find perpetrators of the kaboom," he added.

No group has so far grabbed credit for the attack, but the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) Death Eater group, in most cases, is responsible for attacks targeting crowded areas, including markets, cafes and mosques across Iraq.

Twin explosions kill at least 9 in northern Syria city - reports
[Rudaw] Multiple kabooms rocked the streets of Raqqa city in northern Syria on Tuesday afternoon resulting in at least nine killed, according to initial media reports.

Nine people were killed, nine maimed and sent to the Modern Medicine Hospital and Al Firat Hospital in Raqqa, Hawar news agency reported on Tuesday.

Children were among the maimed in dual blasts: a mine and then a boom-mobile.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported 15 people were killed in the kabooms on al-Nour Street in western Raqqa.

The UK-based conflict monitor added that the area was crowded with pedestrians and there was a security checkpoint nearby.

No group immediately claimed the attack.

Rooters reported that among the injured were three Asayesh (Kurdish security) members.

Raqqa city's security has been in the portfolio of the Raqqa Internal Security Forces (RISF) since it was liberated from ISIS in October 2017.

In the Raqqa countryside, there was an kaboom in Tabqa that killed one man and killed his wife on Monday night.

Syrian Army launches massive assault across northwest Syria after jihadist ambush
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA unleashed a massive assault across the northwestern region of Syria on Tuesday.

Using surface-to-surface missiles and artillery shells, the Syrian Arab Army heavily targeted the positions of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
and the Turkestan Islamic Party
...the Syrian branch of the Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP), an armed Uyghur Salafist jihadi group based in Afghanistan and Pakistan, with a presence in its native territory in China. The Syrian branch uses the Turkish Postal Service and Turkish banks to solicit donations under the name of "Türkistan İslam Derneği" and through the "Doğu Türkistan Bülteni" website...
in the governorates of Idlib and Hama.

The Syrian Arab Army was specifically targeting the jihadist rebels in response for their late night ambush, which was carried out at the key town of Taybat al-Imam in northern Hama.

As a result of this attack, the jihadist rebels managed to kill at least a half dozen Syrian Arab Army soldiers, while detonating three boom jackets after they ran out of ammunition.

The jihadist rebels claimed that this ambush was in response to the Syrian and Russian Arclight airstrikes that targeted their positions in the western countryside of the Idlib Governorate.

These airstrikes by the Russian and Syrian air force came just hours after the jihadist rebels launched indiscriminate rockets into the large city of Masyaf, killing at least seven civilians.

Syrian Army attacks jihadist HQ in northwestern Aleppo
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) carried out a powerful assault against the jihadist rebels in the northwestern countryside of the Idlib Governorate this evening.

Led by their 4th Division, the Syrian Arab Army pounded the headquarters of the jihadist rebels inside the Dahrat Abd Rubbah area this evening.

The Syrian Arab Army reportedly fired several artillery shells and surface-to-surface missiles towards the jihadist headquarters in an attempt to destroy the building and force the Lions of Islam to abandon their posts.

This latest attack by the Syrian Arab Army comes just a week after they attempted to advance at the strategic Scientific Research Center in the western sector of Aleppo city.

The Syrian Arab Army has recently stepped up their attacks in the Aleppo Governorate after the jihadist rebels expelled their former Ottoman Turkish-backed allies from Harakat Nouriddeen al-Zinki and Harakat Ahrar al-Sham
...a Syria jihadi group made up of Islamists and salafists, not that there's that much difference, formed into a brigade. They make up the main element of the Islamic Front but they don't profess adoration of al-Qaeda and they've been fighting (mainly for survival) against the Islamic State. Their leadership was wiped out at a single blow by a suicide kaboom at a crowded basement meeting in September, 2014...
Since this inter-rebel battle, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
has taken control of most of Aleppo, leaving only the northern lands under the control of the Ottoman Turkish-backed groups.
