Afghanistan
Taliban leader Mullah Omar backs Afghan peace talks
The Islamic State having reared its ugly beturbanned head in Nangarhar, the Commander of the Faithful has decided to bury the hatchet for now and fight it out when the immediate danger (in the form of a competing Amir al-Moumineen) is dealt with.
[CNNPHILIPPINES] Secretive Taliban leader Mullah Omar
... a minor Pashtun commander in the war against the Soviets who made good as leader of the Taliban. As ruler of Afghanistan, he took the title Leader of the Faithful. The imposition of Pashtunkhwa on the nation institutionalized ignorance and brutality in a country already notable for its own fair share of ignorance and brutality...
signaled support for Afghan peace talks in a message to supporters Wednesday (July 15).

"Concurrently with armed jihad, political endeavors, and peaceful pathways for achieving these sacred goals is a legitimate Islamic principle and an integral part of Prophetic politics," he said in a message released on the eve of Eid celebrations to mark the end of Ramadan.

The Taliban leader said he had ordered the formation of a "Political Office" that was "entrusted with the responsibility of monitoring and conducting all political activities."

"The objective behind our political endeavors as well as contacts and interactions with countries of the world and our own Afghans is to bring an end to the occupation and to establish an independent Islamic system in our country," he said, after explaining at length why negotiating with "infidels" is permitted by the Koran and actions of the Prophet Mohammed.

His message comes a week after the Afghan government held face-to-face talks with Taliban representatives for the first time in an attempt to work toward a grinding of the peace processor.

Mujahedeen told to stay united
Mullah Omar also sent an apparent warning to ISIS, the Sunni holy warrior group that has seized a swath of territory across Syria and Iraq, not to create a new front in Afghanistan.

"Since maintaining the unity of jihadi front in our country is a religious obligation, we have therefore directed all our mujahedeen to preserve their unity and forcefully prevent all those elements who attempt to create differences, damage this jihadi front or try to disperse the mujahedeen," he said.

His words come after ISIS published a long interview in its English-language propaganda magazine, Dabiq, in which a Moslem scholar argued that jihadi forces should back the self-declared caliphate of leader His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...formerly merely the head of ISIL and a veteran of the Bagram jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us...
over the "regional" leader Mullah Omar.

Insurgency rages
The Afghan government described last week's talks, hosted by Pakistain, as "the start of the first ever official peace talks" between the two sides.

Afghanistan's Caped President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
had been seeking dialogue with the Taliban with the encouragement of the United States.

But finding a peaceful resolution to the country's lengthy conflict will be challenging, to say the least.

As U.S. and other NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...
troops are drawing down their numbers in Afghanistan, the Taliban insurgency continues to rage across wide areas of the country. The Lions of Islam attempted a brazen attack on the national parliament last month.

The U.S. combat mission in Afghanistan ended last year, leaving the Afghan military to lead the fight against the Taliban. The thousands of NATO troops that remain in Afghanistan are there in a training and support role.

Hafter delivers mixed message to politicians
[Libya Herald] Flanked by some of his top commanders, Armed Forces commander-in-chief, General Khalifa Hafter tonight delivered an ambiguous analysis in the wake of the UNSMIL peace accord.

Speaking in a broadcast presser, he touched on both the political and the military positions. He began by saying that the armed forces should be above the political process. They drew their legitimacy, he said, from the elected parliament.

However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
when he turned to the need to ensure national security, he added that politicians should be prevented from interfering in army affairs. He also said that he did not want politicians from going into combat zones and making statements to camera.

In the formal setting of a meeting room at his Marj headquarters, Hafter had commanders ranged along tables on either side of him. They included army chief of staff Major-General Abdul Razzaq Al-Nazhuri, Saiqa special forces head Wanis Bukhamada, air force commander Saqr Geroushi, Colonel Jamal Zahawai Commander of 21 Brigade, Colonel Mahdi Bargathi commander of 204 Tank Brigade and Colonel Abdulsalam Hassi commander of Omar Mokhtar Room for the East of Libya.

Western Libyan army chiefs meet in Jadu
[Libya Herald] Senior officers from the Libyan National Army (LNA) in the west of the country as well as commanders from local brigades met yesterday in the Jebel Nafusa town of Jadu to discuss tactics to secure the Jebel as well as bring an end to all the various differences between communities and towns both there and in the coastal area.

The discussions were led by Colonel Idris Madi, formerly commander of the Western Operations Room based in Zintan but who now heads LNA operations for the entire west of the country including the Sirte district.

The location is seen as both strategically as well as symbolically important. Jadu has tried to take a neutral position in the conflict between Libya Dawn
...aka Fajr Libya, the Islamist operation launched to counter that of General Khalifa Haftar (Operation Dignity). It is made up of the Libya Shield militia (Misrata and Moslem Brotherhood), Libya Revolutionaries Operations Room (Moslem Brotherhood), and Tripoli Brigade (close to Abdul Hakim Belhaj, head of Al-Watan party). Financing and moral support come from Turkey and Qatar...
and the LNA but, as an Amazigh commnunity, is closely tied to Zuwara which has stayed firmly associated with Dawn.

The meeting had been planned to take place last week. Reasons for the delay have not been disclosed.

Arabia
Saudi Prince Not Pleased with Champ's Agreement
Unexpectedly. Will Champ lecture him like he does the MSM?
Saudi Prince Bandar bin Sultan, a former ambassador to Washington, has said in an opinion piece for Elaph newspaper that the United States moved forward with the Iran nuclear deal despite predictions of the situation developing into a North Korean-style scenario.

In a column published by the London-based Arabic news website Elaph, the former chief of intelligence said the nuclear deal "will wreak havoc in the Middle East," a region already plagued by major conflicts.

President Clinton's decision was based on strategic foreign policy analysts, top secret national intelligence, and the desire "to save the people of North Korea from starvation," wrote Prince Bandar, in reference to the 1994 "Agreed Framework" between North Korea and the United States that aimed to freeze the country's nuclear power program.

The agreement finally broke down in 2003 when North Korea announced its withdrawal from the international Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and later declared it had manufactured nuclear weapons. The country now has as many as 20 nuclear warheads, according to Chinese intelligence.

President Clinton "would not have made that decision" had he known it was based on "a major intelligence failure" and "wrong foreign policy analysis," wrote Prince Bandar, nephew of Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz.
One would hope you are correct, Prince, but when you're building your legacy or trying to get your roommate elected President, sometimes you do weird things.
But "President Obama made his decision to go ahead with the Iran nuclear deal fully aware that the strategic foreign policy analysis, the national intelligence information, and America's allies in the region's intelligence all predict not only the same outcome of the North Korean nuclear deal but worse - with the billions of dollars that Iran will have access to," Prince Bandar stated.
So how long will it take for Champ's deal to unravel?

Media: Kuwait Seeks 11 Death Terms over Mosque Bombing
[AnNahar] Kuwait's public prosecution has demanded the death penalty for 11 of 29 suspects charged over the suicide kaboom of a Shiite mosque last month, a newspaper reported Wednesday.

Al-Qabas, citing informed sources, said two of the suspects are currently fighting with the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
jihadist group which claimed the attack.

The June 26 bombing, carried out by a Saudi, was the bloodiest in Kuwait's history and left 26 people killed and more than 200 maimed.

Those charged are seven Kuwaitis, five Saudis, three Paks, 13 stateless people known as bidoons, and another person on the lam whose identity is unknown, the prosecution said Tuesday.

Twenty-four suspects are detained in Kuwait and the other five are to be tried in absentia, including two Saudi brothers who allegedly transported the explosives and are being held in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
Al-Qabas said some of the suspects were also charged with joining a "terrorist" organization fighting against the state.

Two of the suspects have been charged with premeditated murder and attempted murder.

Two others were charged with training in the use of explosives, nine with assisting in the crime and the rest with knowing of the attack without informing the authorities.

An IS-affiliated group calling itself Najd Province claimed the bombing and also said it carried out suicide kabooms on two Shiite mosques in Saudi Arabia in May.

IS considers Shiites to be heretics and has targeted them across the region.

Obama: Extra resources for Iran's military due to deal not a 'game changer'

said on Wednesday it was likely that Iran would have more resources for its military and other threatening activities once sanctions are pulled back due to a nuclear deal, but he said it wouldn't be a "game changer."

Obama said Iran could potentially put more resources toward assisting the hard boy group Hezbollah. "Should we put more resources into blocking them from getting that assistance to Hezbollah? Yes," he said during a news conference.

Butterfield was noted for writing a sequence of articles discussing the "paradox" of crime rates falling while the prison population grew due to tougher sentencing guidelines, without ever considering the possibility that the tougher sentencing guidelines may have reduced crime by causing criminals to be imprisoned. "The Butterfield Effect" is often brought up by James Taranto in his column for the online editorial page of the Wall Street Journal called Best of the Web Today, typically bringing up a headline which displays the effect with the joke "Fox Butterfield, Is That You?".

for their alleged involvement in the brutal gun attack on a Shia Ismaili bus near Safoora Goth, were also booked in the case pertaining to the cycle of violence kaboom outside Saleh Mosque near Haqqani Chowk in the Arambagh area during Friday prayers on March 20.

At least two people were killed and five others injured in the kaboom.

The police produced the suspects before the court amid tight security arrangements. The judicial magistrate (south) conducted the identification parade after completing legal formalities.

The suspects were lined up in a row of dummies when the magistrate called the witness, who was one of the injured victims, thrice during the identification parade before changing their previous positions. The witness managed to rightly pick out both the suspects among the dummies on all occasions and deposed that the suspects were seen at the scene of the crime before the incident.

The suspects along with their absconding accomplices were booked for allegedly killing 47 Shia Ismaili community members, including women, in a targeted attack on their bus near Safoora Goth on May 13.

Five eyewitnesses recently identified Saad and Tahir during an identification parade held by a magistrate.

The same set of suspects were also booked in the murder of social media campaigner and rights activist Sabeen Mahmud in April and in the grenade attack on a private school in North Nazimabad in March.

The Tanzeem Ittehad-e-Ummat Pakistain claimed in a statement here on Tuesday that the fatwa was issued on its request. It said by banning offering of Eid prayer the Daesh committed an act of infidelity because "offering of Eid is wajib (an obligation) and preventing someone from offering a wajib is the severest atrocity... and in the light of Shariah Daesh stands expelled from Islam."

The statement demanded that the Iraqi government in collaboration with other forces should make foolproof arrangements for offering of Eid prayers in djinn-infested Mosul

Referring to a previous fatwa, the statement said the Jihad methodology of Daesh was un-Islamic.

Kurds volunteer to fight ISIS
[RUDAW.NET] The Ministry of Peshmerga in the Kurdistan region recently ended its recruitment campaign in Erbil, Duhok, and Suleimani provinces.

The ministry is planning to form two Peshmerga brigades consisting of 4,400 members. The recruitment campaign, which lasted for a month, recruited 3,500 only.

On the last day of the campaign, Rebin Abdulla, a graduate student, came to register his name in order to become a peshmerga. "I tried several times to get employed, but my attempts failed," said Abdulla.

"I was jobless and I did not have other options. I could either illegally go abroad or become a Peshmerga. Being a Peshmerga is a sacred occupation but I prefer to work in the field of my specialty," said Abdulla.

"I would rather sacrifice my blood to my country than abandon it and depart to Europe, what the youth does is wrong, they better serve Kurdistan," Mohammed Farouq, a Peshmerga volunteer told Rudaw.

The Peshmerga ministry consists of 16 brigades, each brigade composes of 3200 Peshmerga. The Peshmerga ministry decided to form three more brigades for volunteer Peshmerga, only two have been formed so far.

"These two brigades will alleviate the Peshmerga shortcomings, but they cannot be considered as a main backup force for a long-period in major battles against the enemy," said Bapir Kamala, member of the Kurdistan Parliament's Peshmerga committee to Rudaw. "I call upon the government to expedite preparing these two brigades and form the third brigade as well," he continued.

"The volunteer brigades are going to be trained directly by the United States of America (US), which will be sending experts for that purpose," said Anwar Haji Osman, the deputy minister of the Peshmerga.

The program provides intense military and religious training to children throughout IS's areas of control in Syria, the Britannia-based Observatory said.

As many as 31 were killed in July alone, in kabooms, festivities, and air strikes by Syria's regime and the U.S.-led coalition.

The child soldiers are used to man checkpoints or gather intelligence from areas outside IS control, but IS has been increasingly using them to execute prisoners or conduct suicide kabooms.

So far this year, IS has used 18 children as jacket wallahs, most recently in its fight against Kurdish militia in northeastern Syria.

"This shows that Daesh is exploiting the suffering of the Syrian people," said Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman, using the Arabic acronym for IS.

"When a child reaches the point of becoming a suicide bomber, this means that he's been completely brainwashed," Abdel Rahman told AFP.

The Observatory said it had received information on dozens more children killed, but that it could not confirm their deaths.

Since the beginning of 2015, IS has recruited more than 1,100 children.

Obama: Iran deal is only alternative to more Mideast war
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] President Barack Obama
If I had a son he'd look like Trayvon...
, seeking to sell the Iran nuclear deal to skeptical U.S. politicians and nervous allies, insisted on Wednesday the landmark agreement was the only alternative to a nuclear arms race and more war in the Middle East.

Obama made his case in a nationally televised news conference responding to critics at home and abroad after Iran and six world powers sealed an accord in Vienna on Tuesday to restrict Tehran's nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.

"Without a deal," Obama said, "there would be no limits to Iran's nuclear program and Iran could move closer to a nuclear bomb ... Without a deal, we risk even more war in the Middle East."

Obama, who must still overcome a congressional hurdle to enact the accord, said that if the United States does not seize the opportunity, "future generations will judge us harshly."

The agreement is a triumph for Obama, who has made outreach to America's enemies a hallmark of his presidency, but it is also seen as his biggest foreign policy gamble since taking office in 2009.

In his first public comment, Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said the deal should be scrutinized and legal procedures taken so the other side does not breach it.

#5  Here is how the deal is structured (IMHO).
1. Iran goes balls out to get nuclear weapons but can't get them on Obama's watch by most guesses.
2. Israel bombs Iran to stop their nuclear program. Possibly with assistance from Saudi Arabia.
3. The left blames Israel for disturbing the peace and ruining our only chance at peace in the Middle East.
4. Hate Israel goes into overdrive with the left.

Obama's Iran deal has just granted an amnesty to the world's leading terrorist mastermind
[TELEGRAPH.CO.UK] As head of the Quds Force in Iran's Revolutionary Guards, Qassem Suleimani is widely regarded as one of the world's leading terrorists. Now Barack Obama has effectively granted him an amnesty. Leafing through the more obscure annexes of President Barack Obama’s “historic” deal with Iran (page 86 of the annex, to be precise), I found that Mr Suliemani – as the White House no doubt now refers to him – has been granted an amnesty and taken off the list of proscribed Iranians – together with a number of senior members of the Revolutionary Guards.

'You should know better': Obama scolds critics, press on Iran nuke deal
[FOXNEWS] President B.O. on Wednesday staunchly defended the newly struck Iran nuclear deal, using a presser to lecture critics and assembled media on the agreement -- even admonishing a news hound who questioned his resolve on U.S. prisoners left behind that "you should know better."

The president met the press as his national security team, and Vice President Biden, began to lobby skeptical politicians in Congress to back the agreement. Obama already faces bipartisan resistance to the deal, but on Wednesday challenged critics to present an alternative.

"I'm hearing a lot of talking points being repeated about 'this is a bad deal,'" Obama complained, speaking at the White House.

He said he doesn't expect Republicans to get behind the deal, but asked of critics, "What is your alternative?" Obama claimed the alternative is war.

House Speaker John It is not pronounced 'Boner!' Boehner
... the occasionally weepy leader of House Republicans...
's office pushed back on the president's comments. Spokesman Cory Fritz said in a statement that "there's little reason for Americans to believe this nuclear deal will do anything to stop Iran's drive for a bomb, or stop its efforts to promote terror and violence throughout the Middle East."

Terror Networks
Climate, Daesh top list of global worries
[ARABNEWS] Climate change is a big worry in Latin America, Asia and Africa, but the Daesh group spells more anxiety among Europeans and North Americans, a global opinion poll released Tuesday suggests.

The Pew Research Center in Washington said it interviewed 45,435 respondents in 40 countries to see what issues were most likely to keep them awake at night.

Sixty-one percent in Latin America identified climate change as their biggest worry, the highest proportion of any region, said Pew in a summary of its findings.

Concern was greatest in Peru and Brazil, running at 75 percent in both nations, it said.

Climate change was similarly the top concern for 59 percent of Africans surveyed in nine countries, with fear expressed most frequently in Burkina Faso
...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and will leave office feet first, one way or the other...
(79 percent), Uganda (74 percent) and Ghana (71 percent).

In the Asia-Pacific region, a majority in half of the 10 countries surveyed identified climate change as the top issue, with the proportion running as high as 73 percent in India and 72 percent in the Philippines.

Meanwhile,
...back at the palazzo, Count Guido had escaped from his bonds and overwhelmed his guard using the bludgeon the faithful Filomena had smuggled to him in the loaf of bread...
the Daesh group was the leading worry in Europe, where 70 percent expressed serious concern about the threat that it represents, Pew said.

Sixty-eight percent of Americans and 58 percent of Canadians felt likewise, and IS was also the top concern for a majority of respondents in South Korea, Japan, Australia and Indonesia.

Fear of Daesh was shared by respondents in the Middle East, where 84 percent of Lebanese, including 90 percent of its Sunnis and 87 percent of its Shias, said they were very concerned by the group's proliferation.

Sixty-two percent of respondents in Jordan and 54 percent in the Paleostinian territories agreed with that concern, Pew said.
