Afghanistan
ISI Accused of Leading Attacks in Afghanistan
[Tolo News] The National Directorate of Security
...the Afghan national intel agency...
(NDS) has asserted that Pakistain's Inter-Services Intelligence
...the Pak military intelligence agency that controls the military -- heads of ISI typically get promoted into the Chief of Army Staff position. It serves as a general command center for favored turban groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad, tries to influence the politix of neighboring countries, and carries out a (usually) low-level war against India in Kashmir...
(ISI) Agency is leading the war against the Afghan military.

"The Pak intelligence has a direct hand in the insecurities," NDS front man Abdul Haseeb Sediqi said. "We have evidence proving that the war in Afghanistan is led by the Pak military; Pak soldiers are fighting alongside the terrorists."

This is not the first time that Pakistain has been accused of contributing to the insecurity in Afghanistan. But NDS claims are slightly different as they accuse the Pak military of being directly involved in leading and organizing terrorist attacks in Afghanistan.

Sediqi claimed that despite all attempts, Taliban are weaker than ever, adding that the NDS has been able to prevent 400 terrorist attacks in the month of August only.

"Taliban are weak from every angle while the Afghan National Security Forces' (ANSF) capacities have increased. This is why they need help from the Pak military."

In addition, he stated that the gunnies are changing their war tactics with the guidance of the Quetta Shura
...Mullah Omar's command center, located in Quetta, that the Pak govt hasn't been able to find since its establishment in November, 2001. Honest...
that has recently held three meetings to plan new terrorist attacks in Afghanistan in aim to provoke insecurities in the northeastern and southwestern parts of the country.

A number of political analysts have said that Sediqi's statements do not surprise them, accusing President Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai
... A former Baltimore restaurateur, now 12th and current President of Afghanistan, displacing the legitimate president Rabbani in December 2004. He was installed as the dominant political figure after the removal of the Taliban regime in late 2001 in a vain attempt to put a Pashtun face on the successor state to the Taliban. After the 2004 presidential election, he was declared president regardless of what the actual vote count was. He won a second, even more dubious, five-year-term after the 2009 presidential election. His grip on reality has been slipping steadily since around 2007, probably from heavy drug use...
of neglecting the issue.

"Pakistain's involvement in the terrorist attacks on Afghanistan is not a new matter; everyone knows of this reality," political analyst Saleh Muhammad Registani said. "The military had discussed the issue with President Karzai many times, but he chose to be silent. Now that his term is coming to an end, more light is shed onto these realities."

The NDS has announced that they will not provide the evidence against Pak military to Pak officials because of the "lack of trust".

#1  does anyone trust pakistan?

Why do they still want to control Afghanistan?
Posted by: Paul D || 08/28/2014 2:02 Comments || Top||

#2  The Pakistan military ledership has been for years composed of northern elements devoted to the creation of a Pashtunistan hived from both Pakistan and Afghanistan. In southern Pakistan -- say from Multan south -- the military, and thus the ISI, is detested. Most rational Paks understand that the military has controlled and benefits financially from the opium and derivatives traffic in the Afghan-Pak borderlands. They are also aware that the control has allowed the spread of hard narcotics use into the south. Why the USA contined to support Pakistan once the Soviets departed Afghanistan is inexplicable. Why Foggy Bottom today supports Pakistan -- which is one of the world's largest failed states -- is also inexplicable.

Former warlord agrees to join Jubaland Peace Process
KISMAYO, Somalia -- Former warlord Col. Barre Adan Shire (Barre Hiiraale) has agreed to join the ongoing jubaland peace process after lengthy mediation efforts on Wednesday, Garowe Online reports.

Federal Government of Somalia’s Minister of Internal Affairs Abdulahi Godah Barre, Jubaland officials and traditional leaders paid visit to Col. Bare Hirale stronghold of Goob Weyn which lies a few kilometers away from the southern port city of Kismayo. A two-hour deliberation on the fate of the former warlord led to the Thursday’s return to Kismayo by clan militia.

Meanwhile, Jubaland insisted it welcomes the move but put condition on the arrival of militiamen. Jubaland administration accepted that Hiiraale and his special bodyguards be returned to Kismayo and demanded the reintegration and rehabilitation of other armed clan militia who could pose security threat to the peace process.

Somali government delegation escorted the commanders of Col. Bare Hiirale militia Col. Abdi Egal, Mohamed Ali and Abdirashid Moallim to strategic Kismayo seaport. He refused to lay down arms and renounce armed violence as Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed arrived in Kismayo in an effort to consolidate jubaland peace process in April this year.

Militia loyal to Col. Bare Hiiraale engaged in a deadly battle with local forces loyal to the President of Jubaland administration Shiekh Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Madobe) in Kismayo and subsequently fled to unknown vicinities in the outskirts of Kismayo following the seizure of Kismayo by Jubaland forces in June 2013.

Kismayo suffered from two decades of bloody stalemate, with rival warlords and armed clan militias competing for the lucrative seaport and the fertile hinterland near Jubba River.

Libyan official warns UNSC of possible 'civil war'
[Iran Press TV] A top Libyan official has warned the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
Security Council (UNSC) that the North African country could descend into a "full-scale civil war" if militias are not disarmed.

The situation in Libya "since the 13th of July, has become even more complicated and the situation might unravel into a full-blown civil war if we're not very careful and wise in our actions," Libya's United Nations Ambassador Ibrahim Dabbashi told the UNSC on Wednesday.

His mid-July reference was to heavy fighting that broke out between rival militias vying for control of Libya's main airport in the capital, Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
.

"I had always excluded the possibility of civil war but the situation has changed," Dabbashi said, adding, "In the past, security incidents were limited, isolated and rare. But today the festivities ... (are) between two gangs using heavy weaponry. Each group (has) its own allies scattered in the other regions of the country."

The 15-nation council met to discuss Libya days after its outgoing parliament reconvened and chose a new prime minister.

Yemeni president warns Houthi protesters
[Iran Press TV] Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi has warned Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is "God is Great, Death to America, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews" ...
anti-government protesters, saying that the United States and its allies oppose the group's show of force.

"The tribal armed masses... imposed a status quo that is rejected by people, politically, nationally, regionally, and internationally," Yemeni media quoted Hadi as saying on Wednesday.

Hadi said he talked to officials from the US, the United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
Security Council, and a number of Arab countries, who voiced opposition towards "any rebellion against national consensus."

The president's remarks followed Tuesday's calls by Houthi leader Abd al-Malik al-Houthi for more anti government protests.

Hundreds of thousands took to streets on Wednesday calling for the downfall of the government.

#5  This is a photo of the former Labour MP for Rotherham Denis MacShane with a copy of Le Monde tucked under his arm, who had the following to say about his silence on the child abuse: [Note the matching tie and bike helmet]

Ozzie Saffa excerpt: ‘I didn't want to rock the multicultural boat’

Of course you didn't. Multiculturalism is part of the liberal dream for the extinction of the successful, civilising, inventive, industrious White race. We need to atone for our many sins, and wiping us out is the best way to achieve this 'fairness'.

The article below nails these cowards and cheerleaders of multiculturalism with the following observation:

"The ideologues of multiculturalism, clinging to their vision of harmonious diversity, might not like to face up to the reality, but without doubt the ethnicity of the abusers was a central factor in the reluctance of the State to tackle their vile activities."
So, without a doubt, the multicultural cheer-squad and political correct cowards IGNORED the race of the perpetrators - on purpose - to protect their ideology.

If this had been a horde of perverted White men sexually abusing young Muslim girls, would they have kept quiet, or been extremely vocal? We all know the answer, don't we? They would have been outed, paraded on every media channel in the world, had public trials and found guilty, and denounced as White supremacists. The Catholic Church would no doubt have been linked in there somehow.

But it wasn't White men - it was a rape-spree over 16 years, committed by the Pakistani men in the area, all having a go at the girls.

#7  I would love to see, once and for all, the complaint about racism laid to rest.

THIS ISN'T ABOUT RACE, IT'S ABOUT CULTURE!!

And yes, I am a culturist. The alignment of race and culture is mostly coincidental where it exists at all. But in this case and almost all others, race has nothing to do with it.

IMHO the reason race is brought up is two fold.
On the one hand it is easy to catalog people with a racial or ethnic tag. On the other hand it makes it easy to hide in a group for defensive purposes.

Oh, BTW, culture doesn't mean cooking.
Posted by: AlanC || 08/28/2014 8:00 Comments || Top||

#8  The difference is: even when our armies and conquerors perpetrated war crimes and rapes we have never been proud of it. You can bet Henry V's soldiers and knights raped more than one French woman but British never, both at that time and now, boasted about it: they boast about Azincourt and while Henry V had mistresses if he took sex slaves during the campaign he did his utmost to hide it: a dark secret who had to be suppressed as much as possible not a proof of manhood to bragg about in chronicles.

By contrast the very own biographies of Muhammad tells of women captives, women whose fathers and husbands had been killed by Muhammad's men, being assigned to Muhamad's harem. The chronicle of the conquest of Spain boasts about thirty thousand women of great beauty having been sold into slavery. Note that the chronicler is not interested about their performance for cooking, sewing or house cleaning. Their beauty. Draw your own conclusions. Later and during centuries there was continuuous Muslim pirate raidings on Mediterranean Christian shores to capture slaves , specially sex slaves. And centuries of raiding in India for the same purposes. These were not considered shameful actions but were considered actions of merit to be proud about. So when boys are grown in this culture you get fifty times more rapers: one "natural" raper who will do it even if you educate him telling this is evil and fourty nine who are cultural rapers who do it because they are told as Muslims they have the Allah-givenright to take sex slaves between non-Muslims like Muhammad did.

#10  we had our own Islamist rape gang - lebanese islamists from southwest sydney. Up to 200 adult males involved. only 14 ever went before a court. Only 2 of those still in prison.

vicious gang rapes, they'd lure the girls - only "aussie pigs" ie non muslims, into cars

then drive them to a succession of homes where everyone would have a go, hosing them off with garden hoses in between.

that is what sparked the cronulla riots more than anything else.

2004 or 2005 it was.

now 10 years on we have a total washing of history with documentaries now pretending it was just a small aberrant sideshow, nothing to do with the wider community.

Muslims react with outrage at UK sex abuse report
[DAWN] Members of Britannia's Pak community reacted with outrage Wednesday amid reports that officials failed to act on sex abuse cases because of concerns about racism in the northern English town of Rotherham.

Muhbeen Hussain, founder of Rotherham Moslem Youth Group, told the Daily Mirror on Wednesday that Moslems are disgusted that justice was not done -- leading to some 1,400 children being sexually exploited over a 16-year period, mostly by Pak men.

"Race, religion or political correctness should never provide a cloak of invisibility to such grotesque crimes."

Report author Alexis Jay cited appalling acts of violence between 1997 and 2013 in the town of some 250,000. Charities that deal with abused children have expressed shock not just at the number of victims and by the apparent reluctance of authorities to address the question that people of Pak heritage were involved for fear they would be labeled racists.

Barnardo's, a charity that works with vulnerable children, unilaterally condemned the abuse that left so many to suffer for so long. "No one should ever be frightened to act decisively because of fear of being seen as racist or politically incorrect," said Barnardo's chief executive, Javed Khan.

Britannia's Labour Party called for the resignation of the police commissioner in the town, a member of its own ranks, after the report found that "collective failures," led to inaction. But Jay said Rotherham is not the only place in Britannia struggling with this issue.

She told the BBC that "demand for this kind of sexual activity with children is on the increase and that is validated across not just the UK but Europe and worldwide."

"We can't say that Rotherham is any better or worse than other places because the information simply doesn't exist at a national level to tell us that," she said.

Pudgy inspects parachuting drill
SEOUL -- North Korean leader Fat Boy Kim Jong-un has "guided" an intensive paratrooper exercise in person, the country's state media said Thursday, in what is seen as a response to the ongoing South Korea-U.S. joint defense drill.

Pudgy Kim inspected an airborne unit conducting parachuting drills and gave pep talks, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported. As is usual, the KCNA did not specify the time and venue of Kim's visit.
So, so, so many possibilities...
Suet Face Kim expressed satisfaction with the successful training exercise by the troops, it said.

"He put forward a new training method and way which would serve as guidelines for preparing service personnel to be capable of satisfactorily performing their combat duties," the KCNA said in an English-language report.
I'm sure he knows as much about parachuting as he does about golf...
Kim's inspection came as South Korea and the U.S. continued an annual joint military training exercise, Ulchi Freedom Guardian (UFG), despite Pyongyang's strong protests. North Korea regards the UFG as a rehearsal for military aggression against the country.

It's the second time that the North's media has reported on Kim's so-called field guidance to the airborne unit. In January, he observed a night jump exercise shortly after the allies announced plans to go ahead with their regular military training.

In his latest visit to the unit, Kim was accompanied by several high-ranking military officials including Hwang Pyong-so, top political officer of the Korean People's Army (KPA), and Ri Yong-gil, chief of the General Staff of the KPA, according to the KCNA.

Kim Jong-un's Elderly Prize Submarine Under Scrutiny
A submarine inspected amid great fanfare by North Korean leader Fat Boy Kim Jong-un on Monday was a Chinese-made 033-class vessel widely considered obsolete, media reports said Tuesday.

China modelled the 033-class submarines after the Soviet Union's Romeo-class submarine and exported seven of them to the North in the 1980s, according to the U.S.-based Chinese daily Duo Wei Times, four of them for free. With a displacement of 1,800 tons, the submarine is propelled by two screws on two axles.

Currently, the North reportedly has some 20 033-class submarines, including 15 home-grown ones.

N.Korea 'Developing Missile Submarine'
The Washington Free Beacon on Tuesday claimed North Korea is developing a submarine capable of launching ballistic missiles.

"A missile launch tube on a North Korean submarine was observed recently by U.S. intelligence agencies and is raising new concerns about the missile and nuclear threat from the communist regime in Pyongyang," the Free Beacon claimed.

It said the North has secretly bought and modified old Soviet SS-N-6 SLB missiles to render them capable of being launched from submarines.
I'll bet our guys can hear it coming a long, long ways away...
If the alleged plan succeeds, the North could strike Anchorage in Alaska, and U.S. military bases on Okinawa, the Philippines, and Guam from waters near Sakhalin, Russia, the webzine speculated.
If we did absolutely nothing to hinder them. Which, given our present administration, might be part of the plan...
It cited speculation that the submarine would be either a modification of the Romeo-class diesel submarine that was made by Russia or China or a copy of the old Soviet Golf-class submarine that the North bought from Russia in the mid-1990s.

Been a long time since I played Harpoon, but if memory serves, the 'N' in SS-N-6 stands for 'nuclear'.

Model Town probe report says police acted on govt orders

Quoting the report, the sources said decisions taken at a meeting presided over by Mr Sanaullah before the incident led to the worst kind of bloodshed.

Iraq
Iraq Forces Mass in Bid to Break Jihadist Siege of Turkmen Town
[AnNahar] Iraq was massing forces Wednesday for an operation to break a two-month jihadist siege of the Shiite Turkmen town of Amerli, amid growing fears for residents short of food and water.

The imminent counter-offensive comes amid reports that U.S. President Barack Obama
If you have a small business, you didn't build that...
is weighing a decision to authorize air strikes and aid drops in the area to assist around 12,000 residents trapped in the northern town.

According to a civilian volunteer commander, thousands of Shiite bully boyz from groups including Asaib Ahl al-Haq and the Badr Organization are gathering in the Tuz Khurmatu area of Salaheddin province, just north of Amerli, in preparation for a battle to break the siege.

And an army lieutenant general said that security forces were mobilizing in the Jabal Hamreen area, south of Amerli, to launch an attack from the southern flank.

Iraqi aircraft have being targeting positions of Islamic State (IS) jihadists around Amerli, and carried out nine strikes on Tuesday, an officer said.

Time is running out for the mainly Shiite Turkmen residents of Amerli, who face danger both because of their Shiite faith, which jihadists consider heresy, and their resistance against the krazed killers, which has drawn deadly retribution elsewhere.

There is "no possibility of evacuating them so far", and only limited humanitarian assistance is reaching the town, said Eliana Nabaa, the spokeswoman for the U.N. mission in Iraq.

U.N. Iraq envoy Nickolay Mladenov has called for an urgent effort to help Amerli, saying residents who have been under siege for more than two months face a "possible massacre" if it is overrun.

Residents say they are suffering from a major shortage of food and water and there is no electricity.

The New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
reported that Obama is "nearing a decision" on authorizing strikes and aid drops in the Amerli area.

The paper added that Obama is also seeking to piece together an international coalition for potential military action in Syria, where the U.S. has begun reconnaissance flights to track Islamic State krazed killers.

International concern about IS has been rising after a lightning offensive by the group through parts of Iraq and a string of brutal abuses, including the murder of U.S. journalist James Foley.

A U.N.-mandated probe charged Wednesday that public executions, amputations, lashings and mock crucifixions have become a regular fixture in jihadist-controled areas of Syria.

"In areas of Syria under (Islamic State) control, particularly in the north and northeast of the country, Fridays are regularly marked by executions, amputations and lashings in public squares," the independent Commission of Inquiry on the human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
situation in Syria said.

Jihadists are also pushing residents, including children, to attend public executions by beheading or a shot to the head, it said.

"Executions in public spaces have become a common spectacle on Fridays," said the report, which also accused Damascus of repeatedly using chemical weapons against civilians.

The U.S. began air raids against IS in Iraq on August 8, in a bid to roll back its advances.

Obama weighs expansion of military offensive in Iraq
[Iran Press TV] The United States is considering a new military offensive in the Turkmen town of Amerli, north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, to break the siege of the town by ISIL terrorists, the Pentagon says.
Didn't we used to have troops in Iraq?

And how can we go back into Iraq without a congressional authorization? We needed those back when Republicans were president...
On Wednesday, Iraqi troops were also preparing for an operation to end the blockade of the town in Salahuddin province where about 12,000 to 15,000 Shia Turkmen are surrounded by ISIL and have no access to food or water.

"We are aware that there are humanitarian crises and human suffering throughout Iraq. This includes Amirli," Pentagon front man Army Col. Steve Warren on Wednesday.

"Providing relief for humanitarian situations through air operations is one of the missions that we've been authorized to conduct," Warren said.

Thousands of Shia fighters also gathered in Tuz Khurmatu, some 25 kilometers (15 miles) northeast of the town, to help with the operation.

Iraqi security forces were also mobilizing in Hamrin Mountains, located to the south of Amerli, said an army lieutenant general.

Iraqi planes, which have been targeting the Takfiri

Claim: Iran Was First Country To Arm Kurds
The enemy of my enemy...
[IsraelTimes] Iran was the first country to provide Iraq's embattled autonomous Kurdish region with weapons to fight off jihadist-led militants, president Masoud Barazani said on Tuesday.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran was the first state to help us ... and it provided us with weapons and equipment," Barazani said at a joint news conference with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

Militants led by the Islamic State (IS) jihadist group launched a major offensive in June that overran large areas of Iraq, and began a renewed push earlier this month that saw Kurdish forces pushed back towards their regional capital of Irbil.

The Kurdish setbacks sparked a campaign of US air strikes in northern Iraq and an international effort to provide them with arms and ammunition, and they have since managed to claw back some territory from the militants.

Iran has a direct interest in bolstering Kurdish forces, as a large section of its border with Iraq is made up of Kurdish-controlled areas.

Zarif, who arrived in Iraq on Sunday, reiterated his assertion that while Iran is supporting its neighbor to the west, it is not doing so with forces on the ground.

"The Iraqi people require assistance, including defense assistance, but not soldiers ... We do not have any soldiers in Iraq, we don't intend to send soldiers to Iraq," Zarif said.

There have been reports of Iranian forces fighting in Iraq, and despite Zarif's denial, evidence points to a more direct military role by Tehran.

State media reported that an Iranian pilot was killed fighting in Iraq, and several Iranian Su-25 warplanes are also in the country.

"We thank and appreciate all the nations of the world who rushed to help the Paleostinian nation...in particular the positions of the nation and the government of the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran and on top of that the wise positions of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution in support of the Gazoo resistance," Nasser Abu Sharif, the representative of the Paleostinian Islamic Jihad Movement in Tehran, said in a statement released on Tuesday.

Referring to the recent ceasefire between Israel and Paleostinians, Abu Sharif emphasized that imposing the long-term truce on the Zionists is a prelude to the fight for the liberation of all the Paleostinian land.

"As the Zionist settlers were forced to emigrate from the settlements around the Gazoo Strip, we will certainly witness the return of all the Zionists to their original places of residence outside Paleostine in not-too-distant future," he added.
My dear Mr. Abu Sharif, if you think Iraq, Yemen, Iran, et al will appreciate getting their Jews (plus descendants) back with IDF training, weaponry, and tables of organization, you are truly, truly delusional. Not to mention the Palestinian territories.
The ceasefire was reached on Tuesday between Paleostinian resistance groups and Israeli officials after more than seven weeks of the Tel Aviv regime's war on Gazoo.

An indefinite ceasefire will be imposed in the Gazoo Strip, Zionists will have no right to invade the coastal sliver, they are obligated to open all border crossings for the entry of aid and reconstruction convoys to the region, and the zone for shipping and fishing will widen for Paleostinians, the official added.

Saudi Foreign Minister: Time For Islamic World To Recognize Israel
[BREITBART] Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
's Foreign Minister said that now is the time to recognize Israel as a legitimate entity in the Middle East, stressing that the Paleostinian arm of the Moslem Brotherhood, terror group Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,, is responsible for fanning the flames of war between Israelis and Paleostinians.

Speaking at the world assembly of Islamic scholars in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Saud bin Faisal Al Saud reiterated that the Arab world must also reject Hamas as the representatives of the Paleostinian movement, AWDnews reports.

Saudi media has consistently been against Hamas in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, according to the Middle East Media Research Institute. "[Meshaal], we are tired of defending the [Paleostinian] cause that you have sold for cheap to an MB (Moslem Brotherhood) gang whose way you followed even though they have lost their [own] way," Saudi commentator Abdul Hamdi Razaq recently wrote in a scathing rebuke of Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal.

In March, Saudi Arabia designated the Moslem Brotherhood as a terrorist organization. Some insist the designation had more to do with differing views on Sunni Islam than with the actual threat level posed by the Moslem Brotherhood.

This week, King of the Arabians, Sheikh of the Burning Sands Abdullah
... Fifth out of 37 sons of King Abdulaziz to ascend to the throne. He is, after his half-brothers Bandar and Musa'id, the third eldest of the living sons of Abdul Aziz ibn Saud. Abdullah's mother is from the Rashid clan, longtime rivals of the Saud. He has 6 sons and 15 daughters and about $20 billion. His youngest son is just seven years old...
blamed Hamas for the 50-day war between the terror entity and the State of Israel. Abdullah said: "It is shameful and disgraceful that these murderous Moslems [Hamas] are doing this in the name of religion, killing the people, whose killing Allah has forbidden, and mutilating their bodies, and feeling proud in publishing this. They have distorted the image of Islam with its purity and humanity and smeared it with all sorts of bad qualities by their actions, injustice, and crimes."

Philippines to verify reported Misuari sighting
The Philippine government is verifying the reported appearance of fugitive Muslim leader Nur Misuari in Sulu province recently, a senior government official said. At a news briefing, presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said that the Philippine National Police has been ordered to verify the report.

Misuari reportedly resurfaced early this week in Panamao town and renewed his call for Mindanao independence.

Authorities have been looking for Misuari, who went into hiding after he allegedly ordered his followers from the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) to attack Zamboanga City in September, 2013. Some 200 people, mostly Misuari's armed supporters, were killed in the Zamboanga siege.

Iran Modifies Arak Reactor over Nuclear Concerns
Just keeping track of something important but not urgent:
[AnNahar] Iran said Wednesday it has started to modify its Arak heavy water reactor and limit plutonium output, a cause of Western concerns over the country's nuclear program.

"Modification of the heart of the Arak reactor is in the process of being carried out by our experts ... to ease the worries of certain countries," said Ali Akbar Salehi, who heads Iran's nuclear program, quoted by ISNA news agency.

"Foreign ministry officials have been informed of the technical details of these modifications," Salehi said.

The reactor in Arak, 240 kilometers (145 miles) southwest of Tehran, could in theory provide Iran with weapons-grade plutonium.

But the 40-megawatt reactor, whose construction is being supervised by the U.N. nuclear watchdog, is solely for research purposes, notably medical, according to Tehran.

Iranian officials have said its design will be modified to produce one kilogram (2.2 pounds) of plutonium a year instead of eight kilograms as originally planned.

Under an interim agreement with world powers which came into effect in January, Iran agreed to scale back part of its nuclear program in return for a partial lifting of Western sanctions.

A final deal has a target date of November 24.

Tehran denies Western charges that it seeks nuclear weapons, insisting it is pursuing atomic energy purely for peaceful purposes.

IS committing war crimes, Syrian govt using poison gas: UN
[DAWN] The United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
accused Islamic State Death Eaters on Wednesday of committing war crimes including amputations and public executions, sometimes in the presence of children, and said it believed Damascus had used chlorine gas in combating its enemies. commiting

The turbans, who are bringing weapons from Iraq, have changed the power balance in Syria, consolidating control over large areas and establishing order by imposing harsh sharia law, the UN said in its latest report.

"Executions in public spaces have become a common spectacle on Fridays in al Raqqa and ISIS-controlled areas of Aleppo governorate (province)," the report said.

"Children have been present at the executions, which take the form of beheading or shooting in the head at close range... Bodies are placed on public display, often on crucifixes, for up to three days, serving as a warning to local residents."

The independent Sherlocks voiced deep concern about boys forced to join the ranks of Islamic States who are being trained in camps in Syria that could be targeted by US air strikes.

US President Barack Obama
We're gonna punish our enemies and we're gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us...
vowed "justice will be done" against the Islamic State killers of American journalist James Foley on Tuesday as the United States sought to identify targets for potential air strikes in Syria.

"We are aware ... of the presence of children in training camps, I think that this decision by the United States must respect the laws of war and we are concerned about the presence of these children," Paulo Pinheiro, chairman of the UN commission of inquiry, told a news briefing in Geneva.

"ISIS poses a clear and present danger to civilians and particularly minorities under its control in Syria and in the region," Pinheiro said.

Syrian government forces have dropped barrel bombs on civilian areas, a war crime under international law, including some believed to contain the poison gas chlorine in eight incidents in April, the Sherlocks said in latest report.

Previously they had only been able to conclude that the chemicals came from Syrian government stockpiles.

"We've looked at eight instances of alleged chlorine attacks and we found specifically that according to our evidentiary test, they were dropped - the chlorine came with the barrel bombs - dropped from government helicopters particularly onto civilian areas," said Vitit Muntarbhorn, a commissioner.

Obama Wants New ISIS War Plan ASAP
[THEDAILYBEAST] President B.O. wants to decide by the end of the week whether or not his war in Iraq against the Islamic State will expand to the group's haven in eastern Syria. But nearly everything about the potential military campaign is still in flux, administration officials tell The Daily Beast--from the goals of the effort to the intelligence needed to carry it out.

ISIS's murder of American photojournalist James Foley and its continued military expansion have pushed the administration into an urgent drive to take action against the Islamic murderous Moslems in Syria. Despite the new urgency, the plans for such a strike are far from complete. In a series of high-level meetings Tuesday--including one gathering of the Principals' Committee, the administration's top national security officials--White House staffers and cabinet secretaries alike struggled to come up with answers to basic questions about the potential strikes. Among the unresolved issues: whether the U.S. has reliable intelligence on ISIS targets in Syria; what the objectives and limits of the strikes would be; and how the administration would defend the action legally, diplomatically, and politically.

One huge unanswered question is whether the president will order the attacks, or whether he will ultimately balk, as he did this time last year after preparing for limited strikes against the Bashir al-Assad regime. One administration official working on Syria policy said the purpose of the meetings Tuesday was "to convince one man, Barack Obama
I mean, I do think at a certain point you've made enough money...
," to follow through on the rhetoric and widen the aims of the war to include destroying ISIS in both Iraq and Syria. While Obama and his brass hats have said they will need to address the threat of ISIS on both sides of the Iraq/Syria border, Obama has not said specifically what that means.

Two administration officials tell The Daily Beast that the Pentagon and the U.S. intelligence community are developing options to widen the war to be considered by Obama's war cabinet this week. On Monday evening, The Wall Street Journal first reported--and The Daily Beast has confirmed--that the U.S. has flown surveillance aircraft into Syrian territory, part of the administration's rush to come up with intelligence that could be used in any strikes.

Unlike in Iraq--where U.S. Arclight airstrikes are closely coordinated with Iraqi and Kurdish forces on the ground--the B.O. regime has not yet consulted with ISIS's opponents in Syria about possible strikes.

"Nobody has talked to us about carrying out Arclight airstrikes [in Syria], up to this moment," Hadi AlBahra, president of the Syrian National Coalition, told The Daily Beast in an interview Tuesday. "If I were in their place, I would talk to us, because we are on the ground and we are in a better position to tell them where the ISIS forces are."

#6  Obama is kind of stuck, actively go after ISIS with a lot more force, he risks losing the far left that he needs to turn out for the November election; if he does decide to act more decisively he has to go to the House to get approval, which negates to some degree his ability to act on his own and will almost certainly require him to concede something to the Republicans, which will further piss off the far left; if he acts on his own, he pisses off the far left, the Republicans and the independent voters who aren't paying attention to what is going on in the Middle East and don't want the United States back in another Middle East war. It would be a lot of fun to watch if so many innocent lives weren't at stake.

US giving Syria intelligence on jihadists
[Al Ahram] The United States has begun reconnaissance flights over Syria and is sharing intelligence about jihadist deployments with Damascus through Iraqi and Russian channels, sources told AFP on Tuesday.

"The cooperation has already begun and the United States is giving Damascus information via Baghdad and Moscow," one source close to the issue said on condition of anonymity.

The comments came a day after Foreign Minister Walid Muallem said Syria was willing to work with the international community against the jihadist Islamic State group, and US officials said they were poised to carry out surveillance flights over Syria.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said foreign drones had been seen over the eastern province of Deir Ezzor on Monday.

"Non-Syrian spy planes carried out surveillance of Islamic State positions in Deir Ezzor province on Monday," the Britannia-based monitoring group's director, Rami Abdel Rahman, said.

On Tuesday, Syrian warplanes bombed Islamic State positions in several areas of Deir Ezzor, an oil-rich province in the east of Syria, most of which is held by the jihadists.

A regional source told AFP that "a Western country has given the Syrian government lists of Islamic State targets on Syrian territory since just before air raids on Raqa, which started in mid-August."

The Islamic State, which emerged from Al-Qaeda's Iraq branch but has since broken with the worldwide network, controls large parts of Deir Ezzor and seized full control of Raqa province, further up the Euphrates Valley, on Sunday, with the capture of the army's last position, the Tabqa air base.

It has declared an Islamic "caliphate" in areas under its control in Syria and neighbouring Iraq, where US war planes have been targeting its positions since August 8.

US officials said Monday that Washington was ready to send spy planes into Syria to track the group's fighters but that the moves would not be coordinated with the government in Damascus.

Muallem warned Monday that any unilateral military action on its soil would be considered "aggression."

Terror Networks
Intel Believes 300 Americans Fighting With Islamic State, Posing Threat To U.S.
[WashingtonTimes] The U.S. government is tracking and gathering intelligence on as many as 300 Americans who are fighting side by side with the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria and are poised to become a major threat to the homeland, according to senior U.S. officials.

The U.S. government is doing its best to keep track of the imported muscle, who have been shifting back and forth between Iraq and Syria, according to a senior U.S. official.

"We know that there are several hundred American passport holders running around with ISIS in Syria or Iraq," the official said, offering a figure well above widespread reports of about 100 such fighters. "It's hard to tell whether or not they're in Syria or moved to Iraq."

The myrmidon group's supporters have also pursued a more subtle propaganda campaign on social media against Mr. Obama's policies. One post includes a photo of Mr. Obama on the golf course with insets of U.S. soldiers in combat and American flag-draped coffins. The caption reads: "O American soldiers! Obama sends you to death and he just goes to play golf."

In even some Western countries, the tactics appear to be gaining traction. London-based polling firm ICM Research conducted a survey in Britannia, La Belle France and Germany to test whether people were aware of the Islamic State and in favor of the group's radical actions.

At least 15 percent of the roughly 1,000 French citizens polled responded favorably to the group's terror tactics, according to Russia Today. ICM conducted the poll on behalf of Russian news agency Rossiya Segodnya.

The poll was conducted Aug. 19, the same day a videotape surfaced showing a member of the Islamic State beheading American journalist James Foley. It was unclear whether the poll was prompted by Foley's killing, which his executioners said was done to send a message to President B.O. and the U.S. military.
