Rada release confessions video of IS terror operators
Tunis, 16 December 2015:

The Rada brigade or Special Deterrent Force (SDF) has released a video broadast on Libyan TV channels last night showing five IS suspects confessing to carrying out seven major terror operations in Tripoli.

The video comes on the back of an another video released earlier this month in which an arrested IS member reveals details of IS movements and activities in Libya.

The slick video and the Facebook page of the Rada brigade underscores the need and importance of media output in today’s age by both the alleged terror groups and their foes such as Rada.

The 42-minute video entitled ‘‘Execution Orders’’ shows five alleged IS members apparently confessing in great detail to their recruitment, loyalty oath, surveillance and execution operations in Tripoli.

The confessors admitted to carrying out the terror operations at the Egyptian, UAE and Algerian embassies as well as to the Corinthia hotel, the UN mission, the Tripoli Security Directorate and the Diplomatic Police HQ attack.

Rada said that it arrested the group after a long intelligence and surveillance operation in Tripoli during which they followed and gathered information on the group members.

The five suspects are all Libyan except for one dual Algerian national and a Tunisian national. They were variously converted and swore an oat of allegiance in Syria, Sirte and Derna. Their orders to attack and the choice of targets all came from Sirte they claimed.

They revealed how they bought their cars from Busleem car market and how they used an empty plot of land in the Salah al Deen / Ain Zara area as their base. They also said they bought their mobile SIM cards from the Madar road in Tripoli, using a SIM card only once before disposing of it.

They also revealed how they would prepare their 6 kg explosives in bags and how they would carry out surveillance on their target before executing an operation.

The Rada video showed CCTV footage showing how the group were carrying out surveillance of the Algerian embassy before parking next to it, calmly getting out of the car and placing the explosive bag next to the embassy before driving off. After a while, they phone through their mobile to detonate the explosive.

They explained that the explosions were not meant to kill or destroy as opposed to catch media headlines and for this reason there is usually a separate car tasked with filming their operations.

The slick video production was also a partial marketing tool for Rada brigade which is nominally under government control and part of the Ministry of Interior, but operates with much autonomy under its leader Abdel Rauf Kara.

More Muslim Brotherhood offices, hospitals seized by Egyptian government
The de-Ikhwanization of Egypt continues.
[AlAhram] A number of offices affiliated with the Freedom and Justice Party, the political arm of the Moslem Brüderbund, have been seized by a committee tasked with appraising and freezing the funds of the group.

The committee said in an official statement issued on Wednesday that the offices, located in Cairo and Suez governorates, have been given to the ministry of finance to implement a court ruling.

The governmental committee has also announced that they have seized a number of hospitals in Beni Suef and five other medical laboratories and pharmacies in the same governorate.

Chairman of the committee Mohammed Abouel Fotouh said that all of the medical outlets are currently operating under the supervision of the health ministry.

Since March, the panel has seized the funds of 702 Brotherhood leaders in addition to transferring the management of 1,050 NGOs and some 147 schools believed to be affiliated with the group into a government trusteeship.

The Brotherhood was banned by a court ruling in September of last year, two months after the ouster of Islamist president Mohammed Morsi.

Three legal challenges have been filed against the ruling, but courts have not issued any final decisions.

The group was deemed a terrorist organization by Egyptian authorities in December 2013, a designation that was later upheld by a Cairo court.

China-Japan-Koreas
Pudgy likely to replace ruling elites in May
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is expected to reveal his new aides in a major community party convention to be held in May next year, a South Korean government think tank said Tuesday.
A proper coup takes time to plot, even if it seems spontaneous (example: Romania). If you're an older Nork general or colonel, it's time to start planning before Pudgy stands you in front of an anti-aircraft gun.
The reclusive North is also unlikely to conduct a nuclear test in 2016, raising the possibility of a breakthrough in efforts to resume the six-way talks, according to the Korea Institute for National Unification (KINU).

It noted that the North's Workers' Party of Korea plans to hold its first congress since 1980 in May next year.

Chances are high that it will set the stage for a "political ceremony for the full-scale resignation of the second revolutionary generation led by Choe Ryong-hae and the rise of the third and fourth revolutionary generations to power," the institute said in a report on the outlook for next year's security situation involving the North.

Choe, a party secretary, was one of the closest confidants to Kim but he has reportedly been demoted and underwent "re-education" as a punishment for an unconfirmed reason.

As to the scheduled party congress to be attended by more than 3,000 officials, the KINU said it would introduce more new faces in the ruling elite rather than fresh policies.

"A new line-up of power elites in the Kim Jong-un administration will be revealed," it said, adding Kim is apparently confident of his grip on state affairs. "That would have been a basis for Kim Jong-un's decision to open the 7th party congress in 2016."

The institute expects Fat Boy Kim to offer an olive branch toward the South in his New Year speech.

N.Korea Sentences Missionary to Life of Hard Labor
North Korea's Supreme Court on Wednesday sentenced Canadian-Korean pastor Lim Hyeon-soo to life in prison with hard labor for "crimes against the state," AP reported. The charge usually means proselytizing.

Lim was arrested 11 months ago after entering Pyongyang ostensibly to offer humanitarian help to nurseries and and orphanages.

Lim emigrated from South Korea to Canada in 1986 and has visited North Korea several times since 1997.
Moral of the story: don't go to North Korea. For any reason.

Europe
Sweden offers support in Mali to free up French troops to fight Islamic State
Is this odd? It seems odd.
[Ynet] Sweden said on Wednesday it would send a transport plane and logistical support to Mali and other parts of Africa to free up French forces stationed there and let them join the fight against Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
Ministers said the help could be expanded later - a significant offer for a country that has joined peacekeeping missions but not fought an actual war for more than 200 years.
It will be interesting to see how they respond to those trying hard to harm them.
The move was Stockholm's response to a French request for help from EU member states following the Nov. 13 attacks on Gay Paree.

Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom told news hounds La Belle France had not asked Sweden directly for air surveillance support.

"What they immediately ... named was what is called 'back fill' - that is you add to support, mainly in Africa: the Central African Republic, Mali because it frees up soldiers and resources for them."

Germany introducing new counter-terrorism police unit
[Ynet] Germany is introducing a new police unit in the wake of the deadly attacks in Gay Paree that officials say will be better armed and trained to deal with terrorism.

Some 250 more officers will be added to the national police force's special arrest units, known as the BFE, and based at five locations around the country.

Unlike the country's elite GSG9 SWAT teams that are only deployed as emergency response units, the so-called BFE+ police will also be involved in day-to-day operations.

Police union front man Rainer Wendt says additional specially trained officers are "money well spent" but told the dpa news agency ordinary patrol officers also must be properly equipped to deal with terrorism.

Germany Says Overestimated Migrants with Fake Syrian Passports

[AnNahar] The proportion of people entering Germany with fake Syrian passports is far less than the 30 percent announced by the interior minister in September, the government has said.

Germany has to date maintained an open-door policy for Syrians escaping their country's bloodshed, giving them "primary protection" -- the highest status for refugees. Among other benefits, this status includes a three-year residence permit and family reunification.

The policy has sparked controversy, heightened after Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said in September that up to 30 percent of people were found coming into Germany with false Syrian passports and actually came from other nations. He said the figures were based on estimates from people working on the ground.

But in response to a question from the left-wing Die Linke party, the government said in a written note obtained by Agence La Belle France Presse late Monday that only eight percent of the 6,822 Syrian passports examined by authorities between January and October were actually found to be fake.
How many of the real Syrian passports had the same name on them? Of the real Syrian passports, how many belonged to actual Syrians? Of the two sets -- those with real passports who were and who were not real Syrians -- how many were definitely not in any way connected to radical Islam, either organizationally or attitudinally?
Die Linke politician Ulla Jelpke slammed the minister saying: "Instead of looking into a crystal ball... the minister should lean towards facts and reality."

Germany is Europe's top destination for refugees, most of whom travel through The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
and the Balkans, and expects more than one million arrivals this year.

#3  Charming:

The woman has been identified as 23-year-old Leila Abdelrazaq ....

Leila Abdelrazaq is a Chicago-based artist and organizer. She is the author of the forthcoming graphic novel, Baddawi, which tells the story of her father's childhood growing up as a Palestinian refugee in Lebanon amidst civil war and political turmoil. She also serves on the national Students for Justice in Palestine steering committee.

Leila: "When I heard about the Charlie Hebdo attacks, I felt that just because I draw comics, I would be expected to identify with the artists, but I really, really didn’t .... I also did not feel compelled to defend their artistic work just because they had been killed for it."

And a HufPo writer:

Abdelrazaq appeared to have two accomplices, a 31-year-old man named Gabriel Schivone ...

Gabriel M. Schivone is from Tucson, AZ, and has worked as a humanitarian volunteer in the Mexico-U.S. borderlands for more than five years. His articles have is appeared in The Arizona Daily Star, The Arizona Republic, the UK Guardian, McClatchy newspapers, The Chicago Tribune and others.

Both of whom are linked to the Paleo propaganda organization The Electronic Intifada. Likely as not she's OFA as well, all seems very Chicago, no?

The Grand Turk
Turkey to set up Qatar military base to face 'common enemies'
Qatar has bought itself Turkish Janisssaries?
[Hurriyet] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
will establish a military base in Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
as part of a defence agreement aimed at helping them confront "common enemies," Turkey's ambassador to Qatar said on Dec. 16.

Establishment of the base, part of an agreement signed in 2014 and ratified by Turkey's parliament in June, intensifies the partnership with Qatar at a time of rising instability and a perceived waning of U.S. interest in the region.

The two countries, both economic heavyweights, have provided support for the Moslem Brüderbund in Egypt, backed rebels fighting to overthrow Syrian president Bashir al-Assad and raised the alarm about creeping Iranian influence in the region.

Both have condemned Russia's intervention on the side of Assad's forces fighting in Syria.

The envoy, Ahmet Demirok, told Rooters that three thousand ground troops would be stationed at the base - Turkey's first overseas military installation in the Middle East - as well as air and naval units, military trainers and special operations forces.

The "multi-purpose" base will primarily serve as a venue for joint training exercises and Qatar was also looking at setting up its own base in Turkey, he said in an interview.

"Turkey and Qatar face common problems and we are both very concerned about developments in the region and uncertain policies of other countries ... We confront common enemies. At this critical time for the Middle East cooperation between us is vital," Demirok said.

One of the wealthiest countries in the world, Qatar is home to the largest U.S. air base in the Middle East, Al Udeid, where around 10,000 military personnel are stationed, though U.S. interest in the region is perceived to be lessening.

Demirok said 100 Turkish troops were currently in Qatar training the Gulf state's military. He did not say when the new Turkish base would be completed.

"Today we are not building a new alliance but rather rediscovering historic and brotherly ties," he said, referring to the Muslim Ottoman Empire which, before its collapse in 1920, stretched from eastern Europe to the Arab Gulf.

"With the perceived disengagement by the United States from the Gulf, what we are witnessing now is a diversification of potential allies," said Jean-Marc Rickli, a professor at King's College London teaching at Qatar National Defence College. "If you are a small state like Qatar you have an interest in hosting several allies on your territory because it provides you with an indirect security guarantee from your ally. Moreover, it increases the costs for the aggressor of any potential attack."

Qatari officials were not immediately available for comment.

US pulling out 12 F-15s from Turkey’s Incirlik
Interesting.
[Rudaw] Washington is pulling out 12 F-15 fighter jets it deployed at The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
's strategic Incirlik air base just last month, the United States European Command (EUCOM) said Wednesday.

In a brief report, it said the planes were returning to the Lakenheath air base in the United Kingdom, starting today.

Six of the jets are F-15C Eagles and the other six are F-15E Strike Eagles. The former were deployed on Nov. 6, after Turkey requested them to defend its airspace, and the latter flew in six days later.

Unlike the Strike Eagles, which are multirole strike fighters, the F-15C Eagles are built largely for aerial combat. Turkey presumably wanted the US jets to help prevent Russian or Syrian aircraft from breaching Turkish air space.
So either no one is worried about incursions of Turkish air space, or (I suspect) the Turks were preventing us from using the aircraft to attack ISIS...
The jets were deployed at Incirlik before the Turkish downing of the Russian Su-24 'Fencer' aircraft on Nov. 24.

The withdrawal of the US jets comes amid heightened tensions between Moscow and Ankara, and as the Russians are increasingly bombing anti-regime and Islamist groups in northwestern Syria and their supply lines, which go from Turkey into Syria.

San Bernardino shooters buried in quiet funeral following Islamic rituals
Un-fuc&ing believable. Talk about rewarding the perps and encouraging the rest. But then again, we have a Muslim running the show. /spit
Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik, who opened fire on a San Bernardino holiday party earlier this month, were buried Tuesday in a quiet, graveside funeral guarded by FBI agents.
If I were one of those agents, I'd make sure word leaked out about where they were buried.
Many of those who attended mosque with the couple refused to attend, two mosque members said.
Many, but not all.
U.S.-born Farook, 28, and his Pakistani-born wife Malik, 29, killed 14 people and injured 21, in what U.S. officials have called a terrorist attack. They died later that day in a gun battle with police.
I guess they're still not sure it's a terrorist attack.
The funeral followed traditional Islamic rituals, said an attendee. At a Muslim cemetery hours away from San Bernardino, the bodies were cleansed according to Islamic rules, wrapped in white cloth and buried.
I'd have let the crabs have them.
The funeral attendee and another person familiar with the situation, both of whom asked not to be identified for fear of retaliation, said it took a week to find a graveyard willing to accept the bodies.
Time for another investigation.
They said the husband and wife were ultimately buried in a cemetery far from San Bernardino, after a closer facility refused to take the bodies because of fears the graves would be desecrated. Neither person would identify the cemetery where the couple was buried.

Muslims are usually buried within 24 hours of dying, but family members and community members had to wait for the bodies to be released by law enforcement officials and then for permission from a cemetery.

Neither source would say which cemetery refused to bury the couple, but a woman at the Islamic Cemetery & Masjid in Adelanto, Calif. -- less than an hour from San Bernardino -- confirmed the cemetery had refused to bury the bodies, in part out of a fear of backlash, but also for "other reasons". She declined to give her name.

The family of Tamerlan Tsarnaev, one of the two men accused of carrying out the Boston Marathon bombing attack in 2013, faced similar difficulty finding a place to bury his body after the attack. Graveyards in Massachusetts refused to accept the body, and the family ultimately buried him in an unmarked grave in Virginia.
Hopefully some entrepreneur will find it and open a beer stand next to it.
About 10 people went to the funeral, the attendee said, including members of Farook's family and people who used to pray with him at mosques in San Bernardino County.
About ten more investigations are in order if they haven't already been ordered.
But most Muslims in the community refused to participate in the burial or perform the funeral prayer, called Salat Al-Janazah, according to the source who did not attend the funeral.
Yep. A bit too obvious.
"I don't forgive him myself," said the mosque-goer who did not attend the funeral. Still, he added, "I pray mercy for him, and we Muslims know God is merciful. But he's also just."
The juster the better here.
Farook and Malik left behind a 6-month-old daughter, who has been in state custody since the Dec. 2 massacre. Farook's sister and brother-in-law, Saira and Farhan Khan, have said they hope to adopt their niece.
Hell no. Find a nice Christian or Jewish family instead if you want to save her.
An attorney for family members did not immediately return a call seeking comment for this story.
Maybe they will this afternoon.

Iraq
Iraq parliament agrees on 17 percent budget share for KRG
Getting them to actually pay it has been a separate issue, which is why, as I recall, Erbil keeps Turkey's oil payments rather than passing them through to Baghdad.
[Rudaw] Iraq's parliament agreed a 17 percent share of the national budget for the autonomous Kurdistan region on Wednesday, despite efforts by former prime minister Nouri al-Maliki
... Prime Minister of Iraq and the secretary-general of the Islamic Dawa Party. Maliki imposed order on Basra wen the Shiites were going nuts, but has proven incapable of dealing with al-Qaeda's Sunni insurgency. Reelected to his third term in 2014...
's Shiite Dawa party to cut the annual allocation.

"The Iraqi parliament passed and fixed the Kurdistan region's 17 percent budget share," Sarhan Ahmed, a Kurdish MP in the Iraqi parliament, told Rudaw.

He explained that the proposal to keep the allocation at 17 percent -- as specified in the Iraqi constitution -- was accepted despite opposition by the Dawa bloc, which on Monday had proposed a reduction to 13 percent.

Ahmed said Maliki's bloc had asked for yet another hearing on the proposal, but "the parliament speaker rejected their call and considered it illegal."

The proposal to cut Kurdistan's share of the budget was condemned by Kurdish MPs in the Iraqi parliament at an emergency session on Tuesday.

Iraq's Minister of Finance Hoshyar Zebari has warned that "reducing Kurdistan's share of the budget would dismantle Iraq's political process."

Hebron area is major source of Palestinian stabbers, data shows
[IsraelTimes] Few of the 130 attackers in last three months come from refugee camps; average profile is single, male, aged 21

The West Bank city of Hebron has been a hotbed for Paleostinian attackers over the past three months, according to figures released by the Israeli defense establishment on Wednesday.

Of 130 Paleostinians who carried out attacks against security personnel and civilians, 28 came from Hebron and 19 from the villages around the city, which lies 30 kilometers (19 miles) south of Jerusalem. Thirty hailed from East Jerusalem, and the rest from other areas in the West Bank.

The data did not include the most recent terror attacks, including a car-ramming in Jerusalem on Monday, which was carried out by a resident of Hebron and injured 14 people.

In total, 115 of the attackers were men and 15 women. The overwhelming majority, 110, were single and their average age was 21. Only four were parents.

Fourteen of the assailants came from refugee camps, among them eight from Qalandiya and Shuafat in East Jerusalem. The low number of refugee camps residents taking part in the attacks stands in contrast to their high involvement in violence during the first and second intifadas -- Paleostinian uprisings during the late 1980s and early 2000s, respectively.

Security officials noted that only a few of those who carried out attacks were affiliated with terror groups and none of them had acted on the direct orders of such groups. Two were members from Hizbut Tahrir
...an al-Qaeda recruiting organization banned in most countries. It calls for the reestablishment of the Caliphate...
, an extreme Salafist group.

Since the latest wave of Paleostinian terrorism and violence began in September, more than 20 Israelis have been killed in near-daily stabbing, shooting, and car-ramming attacks by Paleostinians. More than 100 Paleostinians have been killed, most of them assailants shot as they carried out attacks, including some who were teenagers. Other Paleostinians have been killed in festivities with Israeli security forces.
There are also car rammers and general rioters slinging rocks and rolling flaming tires at IDF troops. My impression is that the latter are mostly from Hebron and Gaza, though the riots have not been as often reported on. Perhaps gr(o)mgoru or lord garth has better perspective in that.

Safed hospital says it has treated 600 Syrian war wounded
...all of whom, one hopes, were questioned, at least some of whom will be reporting back to their new friends, and others of whom are grateful, for whatever that's worth.
[IsraelTimes] Col. (Ret) Salman Zarka, director of the Ziv Medical Center in Safed, says some 600 Syrian casualties have been treated by his hospital.

Zarka made the remark during a visit to Boston and Rhode Island sponsored by the Israeli Consulate in New England, according to a Ma'ariv report.

He says the hospital has treated men, women and kiddies from Syria, suffering from serious injuries to mental trauma.

Manila Maoists declare 12-day holiday ceasefire
[Gulf Today] The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) on Tuesday declared a 12-day unilateral ceasefire "in solidarity" with the celebration of the Christmas season and the new year. In an email to media, the CPP said it ordered members of the New People's Army (NPA), its armed wing with about 4,000 insurgents, to observe the truce from December 23 to January 3.

In its statement, the CPP said that during the ceasefire, it ordered its insurgents to stop their attacks on government security forces. However, the party emphasized it also ordered the NPA to resist attacks from government forces for the duration of the truce.

The CPP statement was confirmed by the National Democratic Front (NDF), its political wing that represents the insurgents in the on-again, off-again negotiations with the Philippine government in Oslo. On its website, the NDF said, "This (truce) will also enable the revolutionary forces to carry out mass assemblies and public demonstrations to mark the 47th anniversary of the CPP and celebrate revolutionary victories of the past year."

Manila has yet to declare a ceasefire but was expected to do so as they do regularly.

Iran to send long-term nuclear activities to IAEA
Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi said his organization's long-term plan will be sent to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) after approval of the Supreme National Security Council and the JCPOA Monitoring Board, Irna reported.
Any verification? Without verification it's a useless exercise.
'The plan will be sent to IAEA soon,' he told reporters after participating in an event to mark Research Day at the IRNA School of Journalism on Wednesday.

'Iran's (low-grade) enriched uranium will also be sent to Russia under IAEA supervision,' he said in remarks which were made one day after the UN nuclear watchdog's Board of Governors in a resolution cleared Iran from possible military dimension (PMD) in its nuclear program and closed its file.

To a question, Salehi added that IAEA inspectors are present in carrying out the agreement on Arak nuclear reactor. Asked whether Iran will dismantle its active centrifuges, he said, 'With the closure of PMD, we will start taking due measures about the active centrifuges according to JCPOA.'

Russia: Kurds must be included in Syria peace talks
Protecting clients (YPG are some sort of Communists, or were, as was President Putin long ago), throwing a spanner in the works, speaking up for a useful anti-ISIS ally? So many possiblities!
[Rudaw] Moscow believes that any peace talks for the future of Syria must include that country's Kurdish minority, said Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei Meshkov on Wednesday.

"We support the participation of a wide circle of opposition forces, which represent the Syrian people, in the Syrian negotiating process. The Kurds, certainly, must not be excluded from this process." Meshkov was quoted by the Russian news agency RIA.

The Saudi government recently initiated talks among various Syrian groups fighting the regime of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Terror of Aleppo ...
The Syrian Kurdish Peoples Protection Units (YPG) was not invited, nor was the newly established Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Shortly after this snub by Riyadh the SDF formed its own political wing.

The YPG has been the most effective ground force against ISIS in Syria and has enjoyed close US air support.

Since the downing of a Russian jet by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
last month there have been reports of Russian military support to the YPG as well.
