Swedish Court Upholds Arrest Warrant for WikiLeaks’s Julian Assange
[THELIBERTARIANREPUBLIC] It seems WikiLeaks criminal mastermind Julian Assange’s dubious rape allegations aren’t going away anytime soon, as his most recent appeal to have his arrest warrant for the alleged incident lifted was denied by Swedish courts.

According to a new report:

The court announced in a statement that Assange "is still detained in absentia", adding that it "shares the assessment of the (lower) district court that Julian Assange is still suspected on probable cause of rape... and that there is a risk that he will evade legal proceedings or a penalty."

The 45-year-old Australian has been holed up in the Ecuadoran embassy in London since June 2012, seeking refuge there after exhausting all his legal options in Britannia against extradition to Sweden.

Assange has refused to travel to Stockholm for questioning over the rape allegation, which he denies, due to concerns Sweden will extradite him to the United States over WikiLeaks’ release of 500,000 secret military files on the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

This is the eighth time the European arrest warrant has been tested in a Swedish court. All of the rulings have gone against him.

The fact that Assange has not been proven as a rapist, and has denied the allegations.
No, no! Certainly not!
consistently over the years, still keeps the debate around his guilt alive and well ‐ even among political activists that otherwise agree with WikiLeaks’s purpose and function itself. Regardless of his guilt or innocence, however, it isn’t a stretch to assume Assange would receive very unfavorable treatment if he returned to a location where he was currently wanted. The very systems that rule the courts in these countries are the monoliths he takes aim at every single day with his lifting of the veil on shady world government dealings that affect citizens negatively.

Afghanistan
ISIS failed to establish Khurasan province in Afghanistan
The loyalists of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group failed to establish the Khurasan province in Afghanistan as the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) suppressed the activities of the terror group in the areas under their control.

Shah Hussain Murtazvi, deputy presidential spokesperson, during a televised debate with 1TV, said the terror group received major blows during the operations of the Afghan forces as they attempted to establish the so-called ‘Khurasan province’ in the country.

He said loyalists of the terror group have failed and have been defeated in the battle ground.

The remarks by Murtazvi came as the top US general in Afghanistan General John Nicholson earlier said the loyalists of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group in Afghanistan has direct links with the main terror group in Syria and Iraq.

Gen. Nicholson said the loyalists of the terror group based in Afghanistan have financial, communications and strategic connections with the main IS leadership based in a self-declared caliphate in Iraq and Syria.

The former US General in Afghanistan General John Campbell had also said earlier that the loyalists of the terror group in Afghanistan are attempting to consolidate operations with the main group in Syria and Iraq.

The attempts by the loyalists of the terror group to expand foothold in Afghanistan prompted the US administration to grant permission to the US forces to suppress the activities of the terror group in the country.

The US forces are conducting regular airstrikes against ISIS loyalists mainly in eastern Nangarhar province besides the Afghan forces have launched a major operation to eliminate them from the area.

Arabia
Al Qaeda bombmaker says Saudi 'royal' helped recruit him prior to 9/11 attack
[CSMONITOR] An accused Al Qaeda bombmaker, who went to college in Arizona, told military officials at the U.S. base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, that he believed an unnamed member of the Saudi royal family was part of an effort to recruit him for violent Death Eater acts before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, according to a newly released transcript.

Ghassan Abdallah al-Sharbi said a religious figure in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
used the term "your highness" during a telephone conversation with a man, just before urging al-Sharbi to return to the U.S. and take part in a plot against the U.S. that would involve learning to fly a plane.

The Sept. 11 commission found there was no evidence to indicate that the Saudi government as an institution or Saudi bigwigs individually had supported the attacks, and the kingdom's government has consistently denied it had any role in the plot.

Al-Sharbi described the conversation in June to the Periodic Review Board, which assesses whether Guantanamo prisoners can be released. The Pentagon on Thursday posted a transcript, with parts blacked out, on the website of the board, which includes representatives from six U.S. agencies and departments.

The statement is convoluted and lacks important details, such as whether the "religious figure" might be close to any Saudi officials. It does not indicate who the Saudi royal might be. The term can be used for thousands of members of the Saudi royal family; al-Sharbi did not say he met the man.

Al-Sharbi also appears to be struggling with illness. He tells the board he had just come from the detainee hospital, is "really exhausted, and nauseous and lethargic," and uses what is described as a "manual breathing device."

His statement adds to a list of suggestive but hardly definitive clues about possible involvement by members of the Saudi establishment in the Sept. 11 attacks, in which 17 of the 19 hijackers were Saudi.

The Saudi Embassy in Washington declined to comment on the al-Sharbi transcript. In the past, the Saudis have pointed to the 9/11 Commission, FBI investigations and other probes that found no Saudi government or royal family involvement in the attacks.

#1  “We did not own up to it after 9/11 because we feared you would abandon or treat us as the enemy,”

Surprise, surprise (not really). Many, who do not rely on the MSM and WH briefings for information had this one figured out early on.

Washington Suggests 72-Hour Ceasefire in Yemen
Aden, Jeddah-Washington has made a proposal for a 72-hour ceasefire in Yemen with a possibility of extension, during a two-day visit by a U.S. high-ranking official to Muscat.

Asharq Al-Awsat learned from Yemeni and U.S. diplomatic and political sources that U.S. Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Thomas Shannon paid a visit to Oman on September 8 and 9, and held talks with a delegation of rebels to discuss the points that Secretary of State John Kerry had initiated in Jeddah.

A source at the U.S. Embassy in Yemen told Asharq Al-Awsat that the new points in the U.S. position was the proposal to hold a 72-hour ceasefire.

A spokesperson at the U.S. Department of State told Asharq Al-Awsat: “The proposal is a tool that would provide all Yemeni parties the chance to reach a complete and permanent agreement.”

He said Shannon met with the Houthi team, officials of the allied General People’s Congress (GPC) party and a Omani mediator in Muscat, to discuss how to end a war that has killed over 10,000 people and displaced more than 3 million.

The source did not reveal what was the response of the Yemeni parties regarding the U.S. proposal.

Informed Houthi sources told Asharq Al-Awsat that the insurgency negotiating team in Oman accepted the proposal.

However, the sources said the rebels had placed conditions for reviving U.N. sponsored peace talks.

Houthis said any procedures linked to their pullout from Yemeni cities and handing over their arms should come hand in hand with other measures, such as the discussion of the future of the presidency and the national unity government, the sources said.

Negotiations to end 18 months of fighting in Yemen collapsed last month in Kuwait after Houthis announced the formation of a governing council, ignoring a U.N. warning that such a move would violate Security Council resolutions on how to solve the conflict.

But, since the collapse of the peace talks, the Houthi negotiating team has been stuck in Muscat after Saudi authorities in control of Yemen’s airspace refused to grant them access to Sana’a.

According to the sources, the team is expected to leave Muscat soon.

“Saudi Arabia now allows the delegation to return to Yemen using a U.N. airplane,” the source said.

Fighting in Yemen started in 2004 when President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi was sent into exile, after former president Ali Abdullah Saleh and his Houthi supporters seized the capital city of Sana’a.

The Yemeni governing council said on Friday that its willingness to restart peace talks hinged on the implementation of a full ceasefire, including the lifting of the no-fly zone and siege imposed by the Saudi-led coalition.

This month, Ould Cheikh Ahmed kicked of a regional tour with a hope to hold a new round of talks between the country’s warring parties.

In a separate development, Deputy Chief Major General Nasser Abdu Rabbu Abdullah Nasser al-Taheri revealed to Asharq Al-Awsat that Yemen forces had seized at numerous border posts, several shipments of weapons loaded with medium-range and light arms coming from Iran destined for Houthis.

#1  Why would Kerry want a cease fire?
It must be that the Houthis and Qaeda types are losing; an unacceptable outcome for Kerry and Obama.
Are the differences between the Saudi supported regime, and the other two sides sufficiently small that they are willing to live at peace with one another with the present areas of control by each?

No letup in Houthi attacks: Al-Assiri
JEDDAH: Saudi forces have prevented attacks on Jabal Dukhan in Jazan region by terrorists from Houthi-occupied Yemeni territory. Twenty-four attackers were killed and 30 others injured in the attacks.

Most of the attackers were Republican Guard personnel loyal to deposed President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

The Saudi-led coalition spokesman, Gen. Ahmed Al-Assiri, confirmed on Friday that each day Saudi soldiers kill Houthis and Saleh’s followers in battles along the borders.

“The attempts of Houthis to infiltrate Saudi border regions haven’t stopped,” said Al-Assiri. He said the Houthis had lost many of their leaders in these incursions.

Al-Assiri’s comments come after footage and images of a parade held by women loyal to the Houthi movement circulated on social media. The footage showed children and women carrying rifles and heavy artillery as they paraded in trucks, declaring support for the terrorists.

In a related development, a senior US diplomat has presented a proposal for a comprehensive cease-fire in Yemen. The proposal was submitted to Houthi representatives at a meeting in Oman, a source close to the Houthis told Reuters on Thursday.

Negotiators will return to Houthi-occupied Sanaa on Friday carrying the plan offered by US Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Thomas Shannon in talks in Muscat, the source said. Shannon met with the Houthi representatives, officials of the allied General People’s Congress party and an Omani mediator in Muscat on Sept. 8-9.

In Washington, US officials said the plan was an “extension of the efforts Secretary (of State John) Kerry initiated in Jeddah.”

The source did not disclose any details of the proposal. Kerry said in Saudi Arabia on Aug. 25 that he had agreed in talks with Gulf Arab states and the UN on a plan to restart peace talks on Yemen with the aim of forming a unity government.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Russia plans 'tactical city' for anti-terror training
[RBTH] Russia plans to build a special complex dedicated entirely to preparing special forces that will be able to take decisive action in the event of a terrorist attack. Yulia Plavinskaya, communications director for the future International Training Center for the Special Forces, said the private center will be built in Gudermes, in Chechnya in 2018.

According to regional president Ramzan Kadyrov, construction is being financed by Russian investments. However, he did not say which companies are providing the funds.

It is planned that representatives of all Russian security agencies, and foreign ones, will be able to use the center's services. Kadyrov notes that some foreign countries have already expressed the desire to send fighters for training there, including China, Canada and Kazakhstan.

The 400-hectare complex will be a tactical city for working with all possible terrorist scenarios: liberating hostages in a school, on a bus or plane, in the subway and other public places. The trainees will also prepare for fighting militants in forests and mountainous areas around the base.

The center's airborne program will be expanded to include landing with a wingsuit. It will help the fighter reduce his falling speed to 45 mph and glide at a speed of 155 mph.

China-Japan-Koreas
Nanyang police on the lookout for three Uighurs
[RFA] Police in the northern Chinese city of Nanyang have issued a bulletin seeking the arrest of three Uighurs suspected of being members of the East Turkestan Islamic Movement. A directive issued on August 31 by the Nanyang municipal police department tells all police to be on the lookout for Ayjamal Rozi, Abdunur Nurulla and Ayshem Ekrem, all of whom hail from the Sang village of Besh'ériq in Akesu prefecture.

According to the directive, the police department in Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region listed Ayjamal Rozi as a wanted person in 2012, and the Chinese Ministry of Public Security has placed Ayshem Ekrem on its list of top terrorists.

Sources say that Ayjamal Rozi and Abdunur Nurulla are a couple who have had three children together. The family left from Akesu around 2010 after selling their land, and moved to Urumqi to do business, but they were called back to their home village and authorities forced Ayjamal Rozi to abort their fourth child, according to a local woman.

She said, "We heard that her husband disappeared while doing business in Urumqi in 2010, and after that, his wife disappeared in 2011 or 2012. Her husband was a party member in this village, but he sold his land and house and opened a cooking oil and rice store in Urumqi."

"The local police station is always checking with their relatives here to see if they have any information on them, but they just disappeared. We have heard that she was staying in Urumqi, but later we were told that she too disappeared, leaving her two children behind. Right now those children are with their grandparents here in our village. We do not know the whereabouts of the other child," she added.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israel Readies for 1,500 Rockets a Day from Hizbullah, Hamas
[AnNahar] Israel's army estimates that thousands of rockets could slam into Israel in any future conflagration, military sources said Friday ahead of a nationwide civil defense drill.

"Total war on several fronts, destruction of essential equipment and infrastructure and heavy rocket bombardment" all form part of the scenario for the exercise, which runs from Sunday until September 21, the army said.

The drill is based on projections of the army's Home Front Command, which estimates 1,500 rockets crashing into the country each day, military sources said in a briefing to Israeli news hounds, local media reported.

The projectiles could be launched simultaneously by Leb's Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
across Israel's northern border and to a far lesser extent from Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,-ruled Gazoo in the south.

Hamas is said to have been left seriously weakened after a 2014 Gazoo war against Israel, but it still holds thousands of rockets, according to a military official.

Hizbullah has at least 100,000 and probably more, said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
Only around one in 100 rockets is likely to hit a building, military sources say, with the rest falling on open ground or being intercepted by Israel's Iron Dome missile defense system.

They say 95 percent of rockets fired will likely carry a light payload and have a range of less than 40 kilometers (25 miles), but Hizbullah can hit densely-populated central Israel with dozens of rockets each day.

The Home Front Command, tasked with leading and coordinating civil defense, regularly publishes maps showing the maximum time, by location, that Israelis have to take shelter after air raid sirens sound.

In Tel Aviv, Israel's seaside commercial and leisure capital, the time to scramble to safety has been reassessed from 90 seconds at present to 60 in the next conflict.

After a 2006 war with Hizbullah, an official inquiry criticized authorities for lack of preparedness and organization in civil defense procedures. During that conflict, the Lebanese, Iran-backed group rained about 4,000 rockets on Israel and sent a million civilians into shelters, many of them dilapidated and cramped.

The 34 days of fighting took the lives of more than 1,200 on the Lebanese side, mostly civilians, and 160 Israelis, almost all soldiers.

Duterte hopes to wipe out Abu Sayyaf Group without US military support
[ATIMES] The moment he assumed the highest government post in the Philippines, President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the military to eliminate the 400-odd heavily armed bandidos bandidos holy warriors of the Abu Sayyaf
...also known as al-Harakat al-Islamiyya, an Islamist terror group based in Jolo, Basilan and Zamboanga. Since its inception in the early 1990s, the group has carried out bombings, kidnappings, murders, head choppings, and extortion in their uniquely Islamic attempt to set up an independent Moslem province in the Philippines. Abu Sayyaf forces probably number less than 300 cadres. The group is closely allied with remnants of Indonesia's Jemaah Islamiya and has loose ties with MILF and MNLF who sometimes provide cannon fodder...
Group (ASG) which had been terrorizing the country for over 25 years.

Around 10,000 soldiers were deployed and a naval blockade was ordered on the shores of Basilan
