Afghanistan
Civilian 33 casualties confirmed in Kunduz operation
United States Forces Afghanistan (USFOR-A) said on Thursday an investigation into an allegation that civilian casualties were caused by U.S and Afghan forces during a joint military operation in Boz Village in Kunduz last year determined that 33 civilians had been killed and 27 wounded in the incident.

According to the statement, U.S and Afghan troops were forced to return fire in self-defence during the operation against Taliban. At the time, Taliban were using civilian houses as firing positions.

"Regardless of the circumstances, I deeply regret the loss of innocent lives," said Gen. John Nicholson, commander of U.S. Forces – Afghanistan.

“On this occasion the Taliban chose to hide amongst civilians and then attacked Afghan and U.S. forces. I wish to assure President (Ashraf) Ghani and the people of Afghanistan that we will take all possible measures to protect Afghan civilians. We will continue to assist the Afghan security forces in their efforts to defend their country."

The operation had been carried out to capture Taliban leaders responsible for October’s violence in Kunduz.

It was carried out by Afghan special forces with a smaller U.S element to provide advice and assistance.

“Upon arrival at the village, friendly forces were soon engaged by the Taliban from multiple civilian buildings. As the engagement progressed and friendly forces began to take casualties from Taliban fire coming from civilian buildings, U.S and Afghan forces were forced to request aerial fire support from U.S platforms in self-defense.

“Aerial fires were also used to suppress Taliban who were firing on U.S medical evacuation assets as the dead and wounded were evacuated.

“The investigation concluded that U.S air assets used the minimum amount of force required to neutralize the various threats from the civilian buildings and protect friendly forces.

“The investigation further concluded that no civilians were seen or identified in the course of the battle. The civilians who were wounded or killed were likely inside the buildings from which the Taliban were firing. In addition, a Taliban ammunition cache was struck and exploded which also destroyed multiple civilian buildings and may also have killed civilians,” the statement read.

According to USFOR-A “the investigation concluded that U.S forces acted in self-defense, in accordance with the Law of Armed Conflict, and in accordance with all applicable regulations and policy.”

It went on to state that as an indication of the ferocity of the fire faced by friendly forces from the Taliban-occupied houses, two U.S soldiers and three Afghan Army Commandos were killed.

“In addition, four U.S soldiers and 11 commandos were wounded. The investigation concluded that approximately 26 Taliban, including three leaders, were also killed, along with approximately 26 wounded.”

The statement ended off saying “It has been determined that no further action will be taken because U.S. forces acted in self-defense and followed all applicable law and policy.”

Taliban Terrorists Buying American Weapons From U.S. Taxpayer-Funded Afghan Soldiers
[FREEBEACON] Terrorist bully boyz affiliated with the Taliban in Afghanistan have been purchasing U.S.-supplied weapons and ammunition from Afghan army and police forces, which receive their funding from American taxpayers, according to a new government report.

The disclosure comes amid an increase in violence in the war-torn country, where the Taliban continues to grow and regain territory once held by U.S.-allied Afghan forces. Just 63 percent of Afghanistan is under allied control, despite a four-billion dollar investment from the United States in 2016.

With the country facing some of the highest levels of corruption worldwide, U.S. government inspectors have discovered evidence that the U.S.-funded Afghan cops are selling their American-supplied weapons to Taliban terrorists.

These U.S.-aligned security forces also have been stealing American-bought fuel and selling it to Afghan Lion of Islams, according to new findings by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, or SIGAR.

"The theft of fuel not only robs U.S. taxpayers and damages the reconstruction effort, but stolen fuel and profits from selling it can wind up in the hands of Lion of Islams," according to a new SIGAR report authored to inform the new Congress and incoming Trump administration.

"SIGAR has been told that a high percentage of fuel has been stolen and that Taliban capos give instructions to their forces to buy weapons, ammunition, and fuel from the Afghan army and police," inspectors found.

"A significant portion--perhaps as much as half--of U.S. purchased fuel is siphoned off at various stages of this compromised system, wasting U.S. taxpayer dollars and handicapping Afghan cops," according to SIGAR.

Africa Horn
United Arab Emirates Wants to Open Military Base in Somaliland
[SPUTNIKNEWS] UAE delegates submitted a formal request to establish a defense base in the region, Somaliland foreign minister Sa’ad Ali Shire said Wednesday.

The base in the Horn of Africa is thought to be a strategic geopolitical asset in the UAE’s fight against Yemen’s Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
armed political opposition faction. "The UAE has been building influence in the Horn since the mid-2000s," according to security analyst Alex Mello, who said the naval bases are "just the latest phase."

"For years, the UAE has invested in the Horn of Africa, East Africa and the Indian Ocean islands supporting tourism, port infrastructure, natural gas, food security and development aid," Mello noted. But the base could unsettle Somaliland’s regional partners, including Djibouti and Æthiopia.

"We don’t want to lose relations" with regional partners such as Djibouti, Shire said, adding that the approval process would be decided by the president and parliament. Some reports indicate that Djibouti’s government has expressed disapproval of Somaliland’s pivot to collaborate with the UAE as a stronger ally. Further, "the move would likely enrage Æthiopia, a major ally for Somaliland which is the only country that opened an embassy in Somaliland," Hiiraan reported.

Britain
Britain Sets Out Legal Basis for Drone Killings
[AnNahar] Britannia on Wednesday set out the legal basis for dronezaps against terror suspects overseas, saying new technology meant some terror attacks were developing too quickly for traditional law enforcement to react.
Oh look -- banging your heads against the wall actually worked. Our congratulations.
Attorney General Jeremy Wright, the government's top legal officer, said international law must adapt to "changing times" where social media was used to inspire and train Lions of Islam within a short space of time.

The government's policy has come under scrutiny since an unprecedented RAF drone attack killed two Britons fighting with the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group in Syria in August 2015.

In a major speech, Wright will set out how decisions are taken when Britannia can act in "self-defense", including assessments of the immediacy, nature and probability of the suspected attack.

"The situation we face today does not always allow for the possibility of using criminal law enforcement measures to stop attacks," he will say, according to extracts of the speech obtained by AFP.

"We are a long way from being able to see troops massing on the horizon. Technology has made it easier for faceless myrmidons to carry out attacks. The law has to keep up with the changing times."

The likelihood that there will be other opportunities to act that might "cause less serious collateral injury, loss or damage" is also a factor -- an acknowledgment of potential civilian deaths from dronezaps.

Other issues to be considered include whether the anticipated attack is part of a concerted pattern of continuing armed activity, and its likely scale.

The government must also consider the loss or damage likely to result from failing to act, Wright will tell the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS).

Former prime minister David Cameron
... has stated that he is certainly a big Thatcher fan, but I don't know whether that makes me a Thatcherite, which means he's not. Since he is not deeply ideological he lacks core principles and is easily led. He has been described as certainly not a Pitt, Elder or Younger, but he does wear a nice suit so maybe he's Beau Brummel ...
revealed the 2015 RAF dronezaps in a speech to parliament, saying it was Britannia's first such action in a country where it was not involved in military operations.

He said that one of the targets, 21-year-old Reyaad Khan, had been planning "barbaric" attacks in Britannia on high-profile public events that summer.

British security services and counter-terrorism forces say they have foiled at least 10 attacks in Britannia in the past two years.

New Venezuelan VP's alleged ties with Hezbollah, radicalism raise concerns
[FOXNEWS] Tareck El Aissami, one of the most powerful men in Venezuela, just acquired more power. Last week the self-proclaimed "radically Chavista" became the country’s second in command after President Nicolas Maduro appointed him as vice president.

The son of a Lebanese mother and a Syrian father, the 42-year-old El Aissami is also one of the most obscure figures in government circles -- he is suspected of having ties to the Islamist bully boy group Hezbollah and is reportedly being investigated by U.S. prosecutors for possible involvement in drug trafficking.

"It’s very concerning," said Joseph Humire, executive director of Secure Free Society and an expert on radical Islam’s presence in Latin America.

"I’m worried that his power will only grow stronger. Iran, in particular, benefits greatly from having El Aissami as VP as he has been their man in Venezuela."

According to Humire, El Aissami allegedly controls a criminal and terrorist network across at least six countries that operates with several companies, accounts and assets.

Germany Says 2016 Asylum Seeker Arrivals Down Two Thirds vs. 2015
[AnNahar] Germany took in 280,000 asylum seekers in 2016, about one third of the previous year's record figure, Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said on Wednesday.

At the height of the huge refugee and migrant influx to Europe in 2015, a total of 890,000 people came seeking safe haven in the EU's top economy.

The migration office said that it received about 745,000 asylum requests in 2016 from people who had arrived that year or the year before. Of these, 36 percent were from refugees from war-torn Syria, 17 percent from Afghans and 13 percent from Iraqis, it said.

Chancellor Angela Merkel
...current chancellor of Germany and the impetus behind Germany's remarkably ill-starred immigration program. Merkel used to be referred to by Germans as Mom...
, who faces an election expected in September, has been harshly criticized for the mass inflow, and her government has taken a series of measures to reduce arrivals.

The reduced numbers for 2016 "show that the measures which the German government and the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
have taken are working," said de Maiziere at a presser. "We have managed to bring order to the migrant situation."

The mass influx eased off sharply in early 2016 after several Balkans transit countries shuttered their borders.

The EU also reached a controversial deal with The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, spearheaded by Germany, to stop the influx to the Greek islands.

In further measures, Berlin declared some western Balkans states "safe countries of origin", making it harder for their citizens to obtain refugee status in Germany. It is seeking similar designations for Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria, and also plans to pressure the Maghreb countries, possibly by denying foreign aid, if they drag their feet on taking back rejected asylum seekers.
Al Ahram adds:
The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees, which has been beefed up in the course of Europe's migrant crisis, decided last year on more than 695,000 asylum applications, more than twice as many as in 2015. Nearly 60 percent of applicants were granted either full refugee status or a lesser form of protection.

De Maiziere said that about 55,000 migrants colonists returned home voluntarily last year, compared with the previous year's 35,000. Another 25,000 were forcibly deported.

Home Front: WoT
In Guantánamo, an alleged al-Qaeda killer awaits trial
[ECONOMIST] THE accused, Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, a diminutive, clean-shaven Saudi aged 52, looks innocuous as he shuffles into court between two burly guards, a blue-gloved hand on each of his shoulders. A young paralegal in his defence team embraces him. If found guilty by a jury of handpicked uniformed officers, he faces the death penalty.

Mr Nashiri is one of Guantánamo’s 15 most "high-value" prisoners, kept in a special jail known as Camp Seven whose location has never been made public. He is charged with criminal masterminding an attack by two suicide-bombers who steered an explosives-laden skiff into the side of an American naval destroyer, the USS Cole, in Aden harbour in 2000, killing 17 American sailors and wounding many more.

Nowadays he is what officials at Guantánamo call "highly compliant". He politely declines an offer made by the judge, an air-force colonel, of prayer-breaks. He sits patiently, often looking bored, sometimes quizzical, occasionally adjusting the headphones through which he listens to simultaneous translation into Arabic, as arguments are batted laboriously back and forth between prosecution and defence. What evidence may be admissible when the trial proper begins? How much secret intelligence may be divulged? What medical details may be aired? Who may be called as witnesses, seeing that most of the key ones were interviewed about 15 years ago in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
by the FBI, under a brutal government long since tossed?

Was he truly the criminal mastermind or just a foot soldier within al-Qaeda? Above all, may the fact that he was tortured, admitted by the CIA, be used in his defence? What about the videos of his interrogation, which may have been destroyed? "You need to hear from the torturers themselves," says Richard Kammen, Mr Nashiri’s chief lawyer, who for decades has defended, with notable success, Americans facing the death penalty.

The court feels not at all martial, more like a conference room in a dreary hotel. The six rows of desks allocated to the accused are furnished with computer screens; the five defendants in the September 11th case are being charged together in the same room. The only clue that this is no ordinary forum are the shackles, unused in Mr Nashiri’s case, screwed into the grey carpet beside each of the defendants’ seats. Behind a window is a soundproofed gallery for 50-odd visitors, including family members of the victims of the accused. There are curtains they may draw, should they wish to weep. The audio transmission has a 40-second lag so that the judge can switch off any mention of classified information. Mr Nashiri’s lawyers repeatedly ask for information to be aired that the prosecution claims would jeopardise national security.

Trump Secretary of State Pick Compares Muslim Brotherhood to Al-Qaeda
[TRUTH-OUT.ORG] Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
's pick for Secretary of State hit out at the Moslem Brüderbund in the opening statement that he delivered on Wednesday to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

At the onset of his confirmation hearing, Rex Tillerson called the group "an agent for radical Islam like al-Qaeda...and certain elements within Iran."

The assessment raises the possibility that the Trump administration will not eschew the sort of Islamophobia
...the irrational fear that Moslems will act the way they usually do...
and authoritarianism that Trump himself promoted during the presidential campaign.

Republican advisers and politicians have, in recent years, pushed bizarre theories about the Islamist Moslem Brüderbund, calling, at times, for crackdowns on the organization, modeled after dictatorial governments abroad.

In Feb. 2016, for example, Republicans on the House Foreign Affairs Committee approved of legislation that would have forced the State Department to label the Brotherhood a terrorist organization.

In a report on the proposal, GOP politicians positively cited the Syrian government's decision in 1980 to ban the Brotherhood‐a decree that preceded the massacre of tens of thousands of civilians in Hama. The document also praised anti-Brotherhood decrees by the Egyptian, Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
n and Bahraini governments.

"I fear that this bill appeals to our base fears," John Conyers (D-Mich.), the committee's ranking Democrat said, at the time, of the measure. "Islamophobia may be good politics -- time will tell -- but it certainly is not good policy."

Conyers noted then that the Brotherhood has, since the 1950's, been "predominately a non-violent religious political and social service organization." Neither Hillary Clinton
... former first lady, former secretary of state, former presidential candidate, sometimes described by her supporters as the smartest woman in the world, usually described by the rest of us as a crook...
nor John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry
Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, unsuccessful presidential candidate, and utterly failed Secretary of State...
mentioned the group in opening statements delivered during their confirmation hearings.

The Moslem Brüderbund has also featured in unfounded theories peddled by high-ranking Republican campaign advisers.

Peshawar High Court halts execution of another military court convict
[DAWN] A Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
High Court bench on Thursday stayed the execution of another krazed killer sentenced to death by a military court on different counts of terrorism and suspended his death sentences.

A divisional bench of the high court heard a judicial review of the petition filed by family members of the convicted TTP krazed killer Syed Qasim Shah.

The accused was awarded death sentenced over charges of attack on a non-governmental organization World Vision in Manshera, in which its six Pak employees were killed.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), media wing of Pakistain Army, had issued a blurb on December 16, 2016, wherein it was mentioned that the Chief of Army Staff had confirmed death sentences awarded to 13 "hard core krazed killers", including Qasim Shah.

Earlier in December, the Peshawar High Court had halted the death sentences of five Death Eaters convicted by a military court.

The high court has normally been conducting in-camera proceedings of final arguments in cases of military courts convicts.

Several of the military court convicts approached the high court but failed to get relief against their convictions.

Boost for India as France demands decisive action against Jaish and Lashkar
[JANTAKAREPORTER] Ina significant boost to India’s stand on Jaish-e-Mohammad
...literally Army of Mohammad, a Pak-based Deobandi terror group founded by Maulana Masood Azhar in 2000, after he split with the Harkat-ul-Mujaheddin. In 2002 the government of Pervez Musharraf banned the group, which changed its name to Khaddam ul-Islam and continued doing what it had been doing before without missing a beat...
, Lashkar-e-Taiba
...the Army of the Pure, an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI...
and Hizbul Mujahideen, French foreign minister, Jean-Marc Ayrault, echoed India’s sentiments advocating the ban on Pakistain based terror outfits. He also vowed to work with New Delhi to get terrorist Masood Azhar proscribed by the UN Security Council.

Without naming China which has blocked a proposal at the UNSC to sanction JeM chief Azhar, Ayrault said, "The international community’s determination to combat terrorism must be the same everywhere, regardless of the threat."

On the cross-LoC surgical strikes carried out by India in September last year after an attack on Uri army camp, Ayrault said a country has a "right to defend itself" in the wake of such threats.

"La Belle France has very firmly condemned the terrorist attacks against India, including the recent one in Uri, and reiterated its full solidarity with India in its combat against terrorism," the French Minister, who was on a visit here, told PTI in an interview.

Clearly referring to Pakistain without naming it, he emphasised that all countries should fight effectively against terrorism "originating from their territory or territories under their control".

'UN may pass new anti-Israel resolution before inauguration'
The United Nations Security Council may push for an additional resolution targeting Israel before President Obama leaves office next Friday, Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon said on Thursday.

#1  It's about time for us to withdraw from the UN and evict its headquarters from American territory. Let them set up a new HQ in some third-world Shitholistan where they belong.

It's also about time we started LOUDLY rebuking the asinine notion that six million Jews (roughly the population of my city of Philadelphia) living on a tiny parcel of land barely the size of New Jersey are the cause of all the Arab world's many problems, and start severely punishing those who promote that stupid fiction.

Agree with the thought. I think DJT has already started the last point.

We gave that spot to the UN so we probably can't get it back but we could get out and make their lives much less pleasant for those that choose to remain.

#3  If Obama doesn't veto it is absolute proof that he is in the camp of America's enemies.
It puts his supporters in a worse light than those who supported Jeff Davis who was not a foreign agent.

Israel to expand aid to Gaza due to relative quiet
[IsraelTimes] Israel is set to expand aid access to the Gazoo Strip due to the relative quiet in the region lately, Ynet reports.

Among steps to be taken are allowing access of fuel and building material also through the Erez crossing in the north of the Strip, Ynet reports, quoting Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman.

Liberman reportedly told Israeli regional heads near the Gazoo border that he would allow "substantial additional humanitarian aid," in a bid to maintain the quiet.

$178M Judgment Against Hamas Backers to Family of Slain Infant
[FORWARD] A U.S. court ruled that Iran and Syria must pay a total of $178.5 million in damages to the family of an infant with dual American-Israeli citizenship who was killed in a terrorist attack by a member of Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",.

Chaya Zissel Braun was 3 months old when she was thrown from her stroller and killed in October 2014 in a car-ramming attack in Jerusalem.

The Washington, D.C., District Court ruled Tuesday that Iran and Syria must provide compensation to the family because the two countries financially back the terrorist Hamas organization.

Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, an attorney who heads the Shurat HaDin Israeli Law Center, represented the family.

"The criminal regimes in Tehran and Damascus are the biggest state sponsors of terrorism in the world," Darshan-Leitner said in a statement. "This judgment sends a clear message that there is a very heavy price to be paid for financing terrorism and spilling innocent blood in the streets of Jerusalem."

Who are Harakah al-Yaqin?
[Dhaka Tribune] Formed after the 2012 riot, Harakah al-Yaqin (Faith Movement, HaY) is led by a committee of Rohingyas living in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
and is commanded on the ground by Rohingyas, according to Brussels-based group International Crisis Group (ICG).

HaY is represented by Ata Ullah, who was born in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
to a Rohingya father and grew up in Mecca. He is also identified as Hafiz Tohar by the Myanmar government, presumably an alias, according to ICG.

He is part of a group of 20 Rohingyas who have international experience in modern guerrilla warfare and are leading operations on the ground. After the military crackdown began, the Myanmar president’s office issued a statement claiming that some 400 members of Aqa Mul Mujahideen, a little-known Islamist krazed killer group linked to al-Qaeda and Rohingya Solidarity Organisation (RSO), had conducted the attack.

Aqa Mul Mujahideen or HuJI-Arakan
Founded in 1984 by Fazlur Rehman Khalil and Qari Saifullah Aktar. The Bangla branch was established in 1992 with assistance from Osama bin Laden. Recruits come mostly from Deobandi madrassahs. HuJI and Fazlur Rehman Khalil are signators of bin Laden's declaration of war on the west.
is another Rohingya-backed krazed killer group. It is not clear whether HaY and Aqa Mul Mujahideen are the same. Some of the HaY leaders have repeatedly claimed to the Dhaka Tribune that they have no connection with RSO or any other terrorist groups.

Meanwhile,
...back at the laboratory the smoke and fumes had dispersed, to reveal an ominous sight...
al-Qaeda’s Bangladesh offshoot Ansar al-Islam as well as banned krazed killer outfit Hizbut Tahrir
...an al-Qaeda recruiting organization banned in most countries. It calls for the reestablishment of the Caliphate...
have extended their support to HaY and urged Moslems around the world to fight the Myanmar government’s oppression in Rakhine.

International terrorist group Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
revealed its plan to attack Buddhist-majority Myanmar establishments through a statement published in Dabiq magazine in April 2016.

In late November last year, a pro-Islamic State Telegram channel suggested that Moslems in the UK who can not go to Myanmar can attack the country’s embassy and ambassador at home.

The Afghan Taliban on November 30 reiterated its call to Moslems as well as Islamic charitable organizations to take action in support of their brethren in Myanmar.

Inside the Rakhine State insurgency
[Dhaka Tribune] Harakah al-Yaqin (HaY) was formed to revolt against the Myanmar government and establish the rights of Rohingyas as citizens of the country, claimed a top leader of the holy warrior group.

And, according to his claim, they had full support of the locals of northern Rakhine, home to Rohingya Moslems.

HaY’s name popped up shortly after a series of attacks on several outposts of Myanmar Border Guard Police near Bangladesh border on October 9, 2016, in which nine coppers were killed.

The leader, who claims to be the second-in-command of self-proclaimed HaY chief Ata Ullah, claimed that this premeditated attack was aimed at acquiring arms and ammunition for the members who had been trained in guerrilla war tactics.

"The big shots, including Ata Ullah, started speaking with villagers [in Rohingya-dominated areas] in Rakhine four months before the attack and received astonishing response," he told the Dhaka Tribune.

"We had the support of all ‐ from school-going children to the elderly," he claimed.

A number of the members are the frustrated students of madrasas and employees of mosques which were shut down by the Myanmar government following the 2012 riot. They were never reopened.

The second-in-command said: "We attacked Dumci cop shoppe around midnight; it was the most successful attack of the night."

In their second attempt, they attacked Hawar Bill police outpost around 2am.

The third one was around 4am on Naffura police outpost. "That one was the least successful."

The second-in-command claimed that they had managed to rob more than 90 firearms that night.

With the newly "acquired" weapons, HaY found themselves on a stronger ground to face the Myanmar authorities.

But what they had not considered was the possibility of an aerial attack.

"They [Myanmar Army] brought helicopters to shoot at us," said the second-in-command. "They knew they would not be able to overcome us on the ground."

Unable to defend themselves, the forces of Evil retreated.

By then the army had also launched its raid in the Rohingya villages that led to mass murders and gang rapes of the Rohingyas, as told by those who fled to Bangladesh.

"People saw the army killing their family members right in front of them. They saw their loved ones being raped by the army. Their will to fight crumbled and they fled Arakan [Rakhine]."

The fighters witnessed as many as 250 Rohingya houses being burnt to the ground, he claimed.

The army attack turned local Rohingyas against HaY, whom they started to blame for the crackdown.

In the meantime, fighters of the group scattered around to hide, waiting for instructions from the high command.

But the instructions never came.

Many HaY members lost their faith in the group’s goal to establish their rights.

Rohingya community also started despising the holy warriors.

"The army attack cost us the support of Rohingyas," said the second-in-command.

Having lost followers, territory and ammunition, the HaY leaders have yet to decide on the next course of action.

"We do not have any plans yet to further our movement. The situation in Rakhine is too risky for us, and some of our fighters were maimed during the crackdown," said the second-in-command.

Their leader, Ata Ullah, is currently hiding to escape military prosecution. When this correspondent asked to meet him, the second-in-command rejected the request instantaneously.

"It is absolutely impossible. Three of our members were recently kidnapped. Since then, Ata Ullah has gone deep in hiding."

When asked where they were keeping their firearms, he said most of them were buried underground.

The leaders have no idea how to proceed with their movement, but they are still determined to finish what they started.

"We will fight until the end. This is a revolution against the oppression of Rohingyas by the Myanmar government," said the second-in-command.

Trump's Pentagon pick accuses Iran of ‘biggest destabilizing force’ in Middle East
[Iran Press TV] US President-elect Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
's nominee to lead the Defense Department, retired Marine General James Mattis, has told Congress that Iran is the "biggest destabilizing force in the Middle East."

During his Senate confirmation hearing on Thursday, "Mad Dog" Mattis said the United States needs to forge a strategy to "checkmate Iran’s goal for regional hegemony."

"Iran is the biggest destabilizing force in the Middle East and its policies are contrary to our interests," Mattis told the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Mattis provided members of the committee a 56-page document that is intended to serve as a guide to politicians who will be questioning him, and it will become part of the permanent hearing record.

"Iranian malign influence in the region is growing," he wrote in the document.

The Senate on Thursday passed a waiver to a law, which bars military officers to serve as the civilian head of the Pentagon within seven years of their military service, for Mattis to become secretary of defense by a vote of 81 to 17. He retired from the Marine Corps in 2013.
