Afghanistan
Afghan peace negotiator dismissed over Taliban remarks
[AA.TR] The Afghan government on Sunday dismissed a top official responsible for reaching peace deal with the Taliban.

Abdul Hakim Mujahid, deputy chairman of the High Peace Council (HPC), was relieved of duty after he was blamed for publicly labeling the Taliban as "angels of peace".

Mujahid caused uproar last week when he also denounced a number of former Afghan leaders including former president Najibullah, Burhanuddin Rabbani
... the gentlemanly murdered legitimate president of Afghanistan...
and Ahmad Shah Masoud.

Mujibur Rahman Rahimi, front man for the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), said Mujahid would no be longer at the HPC, confirming that the action was taken after Mujahid's remarks.

A day earlier, the Presidential Palace condemned Mujahid. "The government would not allow any one misuse the freedom of speech to name the murderers of children and women, those who damaged places of worship and public properties, as ’angels of peace’," said a statement from the Palace.

For his part, Mujahid rejected all the allegations. The former Taliban-era diplomat said he just quoted former president Rabbani who named the Taliban "angels of peace" before the Taliban emerged to power. Mujahid was a member of the Taliban until 2010. He was the Taliban’s envoy to Pakistain and the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
during its rule in Afghanistan between 1996 and 2001.

Africa Horn
Burundi to withdraw troops from AU Somalia mission
Burundi on Monday began the process of withdrawing its troops from the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) due to a dispute with the EU over the payment of wages.
Better to bring the troops home so that the Hutus and the Tutsis can kill each other with better weapons...
AMISOM salaries are paid by the EU but have not been received in Bujumbura for months as European diplomats seek to avoid sending money directly to a government against which the bloc imposed sanctions in response to a nearly two-year-long political crisis.
And this is what you get in return...
The EU wants to pay the salaries, worth 5 million euros ($5.3 million) per month, directly to the troops.
Can't do that: Mr. Big and General Impo'tant don't get their cuts that way...
But with no agreement yet made President Pierre Nkurunziza has instructed his foreign and defence ministers to begin the process of withdrawing Burundi’s 5,400 soldiers, roughly one quarter of the AMISOM total.

If the Burundian withdrawal goes ahead it could seriously weaken the ability of AMISOM to fight the Shabaab, an al Qaeda-linked jihadist group committed to overthrowing Somalia’s internationally-backed government.
Once again the Euro-weenies have made a decision that will come back to bite them in the hind end. If the Y'urp-peons want to take a stand against corruption in a sub-Saharan country, fine, but then they have to replace the troops. Perhaps Spanish or Greek troops aren't doing anything at the moment? Or they could send in the mighty Uruguayans...
“We have decided to begin the process, as we have long promised, because our troops engaged with AMISOM cannot continue to work without being paid,” said first vice-president Gaston Sindimwo.

Burundi’s government threatened the withdrawal of its troops last month. “We would like to continue supporting and securing Somalia, but we are obliged to put the withdrawal mechanisms in place,” Sindimwo said, adding that Burundian soldiers have not been paid for 12 months. Burundi has been in the throes of a serious, sometimes deadly political crisis since April 2015 when Nkurunziza announced his intention to run for a third term which opponents said was unconstitutional.

He went on to win an election in July that was boycotted by the opposition and criticised by outside observers. Violence in Burundi has so far killed at least 500 people and driven more than 300,000 to leave the country. The EU’s decision to suspend payment of Burundian soldiers’ salaries via Bujumbura is part of efforts to increase pressure on the government.
That worked well...
In March, the European Union — Burundi’s largest donor — suspended direct aid to the regime. The African Union, which is due to hold its next summit in Addis Ababa at the end of January, in November condemned the EU decision to suspend payment of Burundian soldiers’ wages, warning of a potentially negative impact on the security situation in Somalia.

Africa North
Disease and mines rule in Libya’s former ISIL bastion
[Hurriyet Daily News] In the district of al-Giza al-Bahriya in Libya’s Sirte, the sea breeze mingles with the stench of corpses decomposing under the rubble.

The coastal neighborhood was the last part of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and the Levant’s (ISIS) north African bastion to fall to unity government-allied forces on Dec. 5 after nearly seven months of fighting.

Two weeks later, many residents of Sirte are unable to return to their homes - those that are still standing.

"We fear an epidemic," said Ahmad Bala, a commander of pro-government forces, who sat in a 4x4 and wore a mask to block the stink.

"The situation in al-Giza al-Bahriya doesn’t allow residents to go home. Dozens of corpses are still under the rubble. The smell is horrible and there is a risk of catching diseases," he said.

Forces allied with Libya’s Government of National Accord were supported by the United States, which hammered the district with air strikes until it announced an end to its Sirte operations on Dec. 20.

Bala said ISIS jihadists and their families hid in tunnels to escape the bombing.

"They were found trapped. Men, but also women and kiddies who died of hunger and thirst under the rubble," he said.

"We don’t have the capacity to extract the bodies or demine the area, which was stuffed with bombs" by ISIS, he said.

In al-Giza al-Bahriya’s central square, three corpses lie in black bags on the ground, largely ignored by passers-by.

"The [Libyan] Red Islamic Thingy pulled them out of the rubble two days ago. They put them here and left," said Mohammed, another pro-government fighter.

"We shouldn’t blame them. They have no resources."

At a roundabout a few hundred meters away, barely a building is left standing. The area has become a wasteland of concrete and scrap metal.

Containers block the main arteries of residential areas along the sea front, the most affected by the fighting, "to prevent onlookers from approaching," Bala said.

The town still lacks mobile phone and internet connections within a 100-kilometer (60-mile) radius.

Haftar has contracted US Blackwater military company to help in war on Benghazi
[Libya Observer] The pilots who are conducting Arclight airstrikes in support for the rogue General Khalifa Haftar
... served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
and are taking off from Kharuba airbase near al-Marij city are private military contractors that have been hired as mercenaries by Haftar, reported War is Boring website.

"On January 11, 2017, Intelligence Online - a professional journal covering the world’s intelligence services - revealed that the pilots of Air Tractor attack planes flying from Al Khadim air base in Libya are private contractors working for Erik Prince, the founder of the company formerly known as Blackwater." War is Boring wrote on Saturday.

The website added that its sources in Libya had confirmed the information and said that the pilots flying the United Arab Emirates Air Force IOMAX AT-802 Air Tractors -- converted crop-dusters -- are mercenaries and aren’t Arabs.

"Most of the for-profit aviators are American, according to IOL. Prince denied involvement in the UAE air operations." War is Boring indicated.

This new intelligence report is a blindingly obvious revelation of the truth behind the true identity of the pilots Haftar is using in his war on Benghazi, which has been under day-to-day destruction by Dignity Operation forces since May 2014.

Several news reports have disclosed over the last two years the involvement of American, French, EU and Egyptian pilots among the Haftar-led forces in eastern Libya.

Britain
Britain denounced for defending Israel in international forums
Support of Israel has become a major differentiator -- the way the Tories can peel nationalist and Jewish votes and donations away from Mr. Corbyn's increasingly antisemitic, shrinking Labour party. They're still figuring it out, however.
[IsraelTimes] After UK blocks EU from endorsing Gay Paree conference communique, Paleostinian and European officials accuse London of aligning with Jerusalem to cozy up to Trump.

Paleostinian and European officials on Monday slammed the UK’s apparent readiness to defy international consensus and stand up for Israel, accusing London of aligning with Jerusalem to garner favor with the incoming Trump administration.

On Sunday, UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson attended the Gay Paree peace conference but refused to sign the joint declaration issued by all but two participating countries (Australia also refused to sign the document).

That was before the "educated" left gave it the figleaf of anti-Zionism. Now fire bombing a synagogue is an understandable expression of distaste for Israel daring to defend itself.

#5  Germany is indeed supplying Israel with submarines, and probably other things. But they are also part of EU efforts to support -- through donated supplies and funding -- Palestinian settlement building efforts in the West Bank, blatantly ignoring Israeli requests for consultation first; labelling settlement products to facilitate boycotts; and other anti-Israel efforts they position as being the kind of feedback friends give to those who have not learnt the lessons of the Nazi era as they have.

Europe
Trump: safe zones in Syria should have been built for combatting refugee crisis
U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has said “safe zones” funded by the Gulf states should have been built inside Syria to combat the refugee crisis.

“I think we should have built safe zones in Syria,” said Trump in response to a question asking if he still viewed German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s policy on refugees as “insane,” a phrase he had used during his campaign.

“Would have been a lot less expensive,” Trump said in an interview with the U.K.’s The Times and Germany’s Bild newspapers.

“Uh, get the Gulf states to pay for ’em who aren’t coming through, I mean they’ve got money that nobody has,” he said, adding that Merkel had made a “big mistake.”

Turkey has long argued for the need for a “no-fly” or “safe zone” zone along its Syrian border, with the aim of clearing Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants from the border and stemming a wave of migration that has fueled tensions in Europe. But Western allies have so far balked at the idea, saying it would require a significant ground force and planes to patrol, marking a major commitment in such a crowded battlefield.
That's right, it would be substantially expensive. You can pay for it in Syria or you can pay for it in Germany and Norway, but either way, you're going to pay. Trump is right. Again.

not one Muslim migrant should come to the West. We have our civilisation and they have theirs. They are not compatible.

Any that move out of the region should go to one of the 56 muslim nations of the OIC. There are 56 countries to choose from all of which share Islam and thus the very different value system, and different degrees of sharia.

they can stay in the region and the muslims can pay for it. Their problem.

Saudi, Qatar, Malaysia, Brunei - it's their Umma.

Intelligence organization involved in Reina attack: Deputy PM
[Hurriyet Daily News] The mass shooting at an Istanbul nightclub on New Year’s Eve was carried out professionally with the involvement of an intelligence organization, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmus said Jan. 16.

"It appears the Reina attack was not just a terrorist organization’s act, but there was also an intelligence organization involved. It was an extremely planned and organized act," Kurtulmus said during an interview.

Police raided the address and found 150,000 dollars in the house on Jan. 15.

Police also claimed the money was the amount to be given to Masharipov, who was allegedly unable to obtain the money due to the intense police hunt.

Security forces said the attacker conducted the attack for money, not ideological reasons.

Police have focused on the possibility that the Reina attacker and ISIS’s regional leader could be in the same cell after the investigation of phone conversations.

The testimonies of suspects who were detained in Izmir have also raised suspicions.

Izmir police said one of the suspects repeatedly insisted he was Syrian even though he was heard to be speaking with a Moroccan accent.

Support For Al Qaeda Terrorists Was Preached At New England’s Largest Mosque
[DAILYCALLER] Speaking at an interfaith event at the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center (ISBCC) in mid-December, Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren told a crowd of 2,600: "Now is a time when we must be willing to say loud and clear there is no room for bigotry anywhere in the United States of America -- none."

Ironically, the very room at the largest mosque in New England where she was making her speech has been the site of some of the most vicious religion-driven bigotry in Boston. A newly unearthed video reveals that when the politicians leave and the media cameras are no longer rolling, the ISBCC mosque serves as a forum for supporters of convicted Al Qaeda gunnies who use the mosque to call for jihad against America and demand that Moslems fight to bring this nation "to its knees."

On September 24, 2011, the ISBCC hosted an event, titled, "Reclaiming Power and Protecting Our Communities," which featured families of several convicted gunnies and Islamist hate preachers, who accused the B.O. regime of a broad conspiracy to falsely convict and imprison American Moslems as part of a general war against Islam. Among the examples given at the at the ISBCC event were no fewer than twenty-two U.S.-based individuals convicted of material support for Al Qaeda, the Taliban, Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",, Paleostinian Islamic Jihad

Lal Masjid official removed from Fourth Schedule
[DAWN] ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday ordered the removal of Lal Masjid
...literally the Red Mosque, located in Islamabad and frequented by all sorts of high govt officials. The proprietors, Ghazi Abdul Rasheed and Maulana Abdul Aziz Ghazi, unleashed their Islamic storm troopers on the city, shutting down whorehouses and beating people up who weren't devout enough. The Musharraf govt put an end to the nonsense by besieging the place. Abdul Aziz Ghazi was nabbed while he was trying to escape dressed up like a girl. BBC reported that the corpse count at 173, but other claims, usually hysterical, say there were up to 1000 titzup. Among their number was Abdul Rashid Ghazi. Everyone then said tut-tut and what a nice guy he had been...
khadim Manzoor Hussain from the Fourth Schedule of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).

Under the Fourth Schedule, it is mandatory for a suspected terrorist to register their attendance with the police on a regular basis.

Accepting a petition of Mr Hussain, Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of the IHC also ordered unfreezing of his bank accounts and restoration of his computerised national identity card (CNIC).

1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) had submitted a report to the district coordination officer of Attock, accusing Mr Hussain of meeting members of the banned Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat (ASWJ), formerly Sipah-e-Sahaba, at his residence in Attock. The suspect was placed on the Fourth Schedule by the Punjab home department in February 2016.

The high court had summoned officials of the home department and the CTD to present evidence in the case.

An officer of the district administration informed the court that they had added the name of the suspect to the list on the recommendations of the CTD. The officer, however, could not satisfy the court when asked if Mr Hussain had been in contact with any high-profile terror suspect.

Qatari fuel arrives in Gaza, helping to ease power crisis

...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
arrived in the Gazoo Strip on Monday, helping ease a crippling power shortage that has sparked rare demonstrations against the territory's Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, rulers who responded with a crackdown on protesters.

Gazoo's power authority said the Qatari-bought diesel would double the amount of power provided to Gazook households.

The coastal strip has been experiencing the worst electricity shortage in years, limiting Gazooks to about four hours of electricity per day. The added fuel will grant homes power for about eight hours a day, and Hamas said another ally, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

Radical ideologies remain in region despite tightened security
[THEMALAYMAILONLINE] Nestled in the heart of Jakarta’s Thamrin district, an area lined with hotels, shopping centres, and several embassies, a refurbished Starbucks cafe stands as a poignant symbol of Indonesia’s resilience against terrorism.

It was here a year ago on Jan 14, 2016, that customers and bystanders bore witness to multiple kabooms and gunfire which eventually claimed the lives of four civilians and left more than 20 injured. The attacks claimed by Islamic State

(IS) marked the first time the terror group had unleashed its violence on South-east Asia.

They were followed in June by a kaboom in a nightclub in Puchong, Malaysia, which injured eight people. An attack on Marina Bay was foiled by the Indonesian authorities in Batam.

While Indonesia and Malaysia have succeeded in thwarting several Lion of Islam plots in recent months, experts we spoke to say that the threat of radicalisation and terrorism still loom large over the region.

As IS continues to lose ground in Iraq and Syria, South-east Asia has to prepare itself for the return of hundreds of battle hardened jihadists who might unleash violence at home.

An additional threat lies in IS’ call to its supporters and sympathisers to carry out attacks in their own countries.

"The fall of the caliphate by no means suggests that there would be a let up in terms of the spread of Death Eater ideologies that form the basis of the caliphate," said Associate Professor Syed Farid al-Atas from the National University of Singapore’s department of sociology. "Wahhabism and other forms of Salafism are going to continue to spread throughout the Moslem world and certainly in South-east Asia."

Some 280 Indonesians are known to have joined IS’ campaign in Syria, of which 20 have returned home. Of these 20, at least 13 have been arrested. Meatball seller, Ahmad Junaedi, was one of them.

He said he left for Syria in 2014, after being radicalised at a mosque in Malang, East Java, Indonesia, where he was made to watch videos of the fighting in the Middle East.

"From the videos, I could see how cruel the Assad regime was", Junaedi said, referring to Syrian leader Bashir al-Assad. "I saw many mosques being bombed from above, by jet fighters. Very often, I saw mothers carrying their children being killed. Children were burnt to ashes while their parents were being killed."

"I was told that if I couldn’t aid them financially, I should contribute with my life by travelling to Syria to fight against the injustices there."

Although he was at first reluctant to leave his wife and young children behind, Junaedi was eventually lured by the promise of a huge payout by one of the Indonesian IS leaders, Abu Jandal.

After five months in Syria, Junaedi grew weary of the fighting and the squalid living conditions. He also learnt that the promise of a huge payout was a lie. But money is not all he has lost. In March 2015, six months after he returned to Malang, he was arrested by the Indonesian authorities and sentenced to three years in prison. He has not heard from any of his family members since.

#1  that's what happens when the problem is in the text of the koran and hadith and not just in the interpretation.

you can't use 'tightened security', spying, guns, bombs or any other force tactic to fight the problem which we keep pretending isn't the religion

if you want to win, first acknowledge the problem lies within the religion.

Anti-Assad group calls for Israeli intervention in Syria
Misleading headline from original article.
[ALMASDARNEWS] The so-called National Salvation Front in Syria, an anti-Syrian government group comprising of mostly Syrians in the diaspora, have proposed a "roadmap" for closer relations with Tel Aviv, the official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported on Monday.

SANA explained that the "roadmap" would be to recognize Israel, come to a compromise on the Golan heights that Israel currently and has illegally occupied since 1967, establish ties between the two states, and dismantle all Paleostinian resistance forces in Syria.

This corresponded with Fahd al-Masri, the group’s front man, to call for Tel Aviv to support the anti-government turbans, through a set of audio and video messages.

South Africa: Al-Qaeda-Linked Group to Help Find Abducted Photographer
[All Africa] al-Qaeda-linked group An Nusra has offered to help in the search for South African photojournalist Shiraaz Mohammed, who was apparently kidnapped by gunnies as he was leaving Syria.

That's according to South African-based aid organization, Gift of the Givers.

"The An Nusra people said they have an interest in the case and will assist in the search for Shiraaz," Gift of the Givers CEO Imtiaz Sooliman said on Sunday, as concerns mount over the safety of the missing lensman.

Mohammed was on his way out of northern Syria and headed for the Turkish border on Tuesday, 10 January, when two cars boxed him, and two Gift of the Givers workers, in as they drove past the Al Hilal Hospital in Aljamiliye Road.

The Gift of the Givers driver hooted at them to move, but instead gunnies got out of the cars and put a gun to the heads of two Gift of the Givers workers, and looked at Mohammed.

They said there seemed to be a "misunderstanding" and that they needed to question him about it.

They drove away with the three, blindfolded, and when they eventually stopped, asked questions.

They asked if Mohammed was a foreigner, had a passport, and a Moslem, which the captives confirmed.
