Puntland court sentences 7 to death for Al-Shabab link
A military court in northern Somalia town of Bosaso has on Monday sentenced seven suspected al-Shabab Islamist militants to death.

Abdifatah Haji Aden, the Chairman of Puntland’s military court, said, the militants are proved to have been part of a high profile assassination against Puntland officials. Aden earlier accused the militants of having carried out coordinated assassinations against Puntland officials.

“After all the court proceeding including hearings and the presentation of evidences the court sentences these seven men to death,” Aden said. “They can take an appeal within 30 days otherwise the sentence will be carried out.”

At the court, before the sentence were announced, some of the defendants shouted “We are innocent!”

The defendants’ lawyers said, “The sentence was unfair and no credible evidences were brought before the court.”
Other than the dead guys...
The past three months suspected militants killed three senior Puntland officials in Bosaso port city, the commercial hub of Puntland. Those killed included the third deputy commander of police forces, Jama Sahardiid, the director of Puntland’s presidential palace, Aden Huruse, and the prosecutor of the Puntland military court, Abdkarim Hassan Firdiye.

Bangladesh
Myanmar to execute Rohingya man for raid on police post
[Dhaka Tribune] Myanmar authorities have sentenced a Rohingya man to death for leading raids on police border posts that sparked a deadly military crackdown in the north of Rakhine state, police said on Monday.

Hundreds from the Moslem minority are thought to have died and tens of thousands have fled to Bangladesh since the army launched "clearance operations" four months ago to find the attackers.

Sittwe police chief Yan Naing Lett said the court in the town, the capital of Rakhine, had sentenced the leader of the raid on the Kotankauk border post to death on Friday.

The Grand Turk
Turkey nightclub attacker reportedly asks for death penalty
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] An ISIS hard boy who attacked a famous nightclub at the heart of Istanbul has reportedly asked to be given a death sentence in his testimony.

Uzbek-origin Abdulkadir Masharipov, who killed 39 people and maimed 65 others, said that "it would be good if he was given capital punishment," daily Sabah reported on Feb. 13.

During his testimony, Masharipov said he was a member of ISIS but had not participated in any attacks by the hard boy organization before the Reina attack.

"I wanted to stage the attack on Christians in order to exact Dire Revenge on them for their acts committed all over the world. My aim was to kill Christians. Abu Cihad, who is in Syria, told me to carry out the attack in Taksim, saying ’Christians are gathering in Taksim,’" Masharipov said, adding that he could not stage the attack in Taksim due to strict security measures.

"There were coppers everywhere. I changed my mind. I called Abu Cihad and told him that I can’t carry out the attack there. Then I went to scope out Reina. Abu Cihad sent me the address and photos of Reina. I constantly texted him. I didn’t see him face-to-face. I went in front of Reina and there were no coppers or security," he said.

Noting that he wanted to kill himself after staging the attack, Masharipov said he was planning to do so in order not to "fall hostage."

"When I was out of bullets, I threw two stun grenades. I put the third one near my face to commit suicide, but I didn’t die. I survived, but I entered Reina to die," he said, adding that he did not regret his actions.

"I took vengeance," he said.

At least 39 people, including a police officer, were killed when Masharipov opened fire on New Year’s revelers in the nightclub in the Ortaköy neighborhood at about 1:15 a.m. on Jan. 1.

Masharipov was captured in the Esenyurt district of Istanbul late on Jan. 16. He was tossed in the slammer
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
on Feb. 11.

Meanwhile,
...back at the palazzo, Count Guido stepped from behind the suit of armor, rapier in hand. Ciccolini snarled and reached for his own weapon...
it has emerged that Masharipov recorded a "farewell video" before staging the attack. In the video recorded on Dec. 27, 2016, the ISIS hard boy is seen saying he will stage a suicide kaboom, daily Haberturk reported on Feb. 12.

According to the footage, Masharipov advises his son to become a jacket wallah like himself. The authorities are attempting to determine whether the video was recorded by the ISIS hard boy’s wife, Zarina Nurullayeva.

Canadian PM Trudeau refuses to buck Trump on ‘extreme vetting’
[WASHINGTONTIMES] President Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau didn’t see eye to eye on immigration and refugees, but the two leaders still pledged Monday to work together to keep their countries safe from terrorism.

At a joint presser at the White House, Mr. Trump said that the U.S. faces immense national security threats and vowed to pursue his "extreme vetting" program.

Mr. Trump defended his temporary halt on visitors form seven Moslem-majority countries, saying that "we cannot let the wrong people in and I wont."

"It’s much more than toughness. It’s a stance of common sense," the president said of the program, which has been blocked by federal courts.

He made the remarks standing beside Mr. Trudeau, a liberal superstar on the international stage and a critic of Mr. Trump’s policies. In response to Mr. Trump’s vetting program, he previously had pledged to welcome all refugees to Canada.

But he wouldn’t criticize Mr. Trump while at the White House.

“The last thing Canadians expect is for me to come down and lecture another country on how they should govern themselves,” Mr. Trudeau said.

He stressed that Canada and the U.S. remain the closest of allies and have a long history of fighting side by side against common enemies in the world.

White House Says New Immigration Measures Forthcoming
[ENGLISH.ALMANAR.LB] US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
was expected to unveil new measures on immigration as early as Monday in the name of ’keeping Americans safe’, with a top aide insisting he did not overstep his authority with his controversial travel ban.

With the ban now frozen by a federal appeals court pending further legal review, Trump is "considering and pursuing all options," presidential aide Stephen Miller told "Fox News Sunday."

The White House could either file an emergency appeal to the Supreme Court, defend the merits of the order in lower courts or issue a new executive order. The last option was floated by Trump himself on Friday.

"We are contemplating new and additional actions to ensure that immigration is not a vehicle for admitting people into our country that are hostile to its nation and its values," Miller said on NBC’s "Meet the Press."

"There’s no such thing as judicial supremacy. What the judges did is take power away that belongs squarely in the hands of the president of the United States."

The issue is sure to come up when Trump meets Monday with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who said after the Republican leader issued his ban that America’s northern neighbor welcomes with open arms "those fleeing persecution, terror and war."

Iraq
Trump Moves Spark Iraqi Anger, Calls against Future Alliance
[An Nahar] Reverberations from President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
's travel ban and other stances are threatening to undermine future U.S.-Iraqi security cooperation, rattling a key alliance that over the past two years has slowly beaten back the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group.

Iraq's prime minister, Haider al-Abadi, has sought to contain any backlash from public anger sparked by Trump's executive order banning Iraqis from traveling to the U.S. Also breeding resentment and suspicion are Trump's repeated statements that the Americans should have taken Iraq's oil and his hard line against Iran, a close ally of al-Abadi's government.

Al-Abadi and Trump spoke Thursday night for the first time since Trump's inauguration. The U.S. leader, who has pledged a stronger fight against IS Lion of Islams, promised increased help for Iraq against terrorism, and al-Abadi asked him to remove Iraq from the travel ban, according to an Iraqi official who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the telephone call.

Iraqi anger at Washington comes at a crucial juncture in a long and often contentious relationship. U.S.-backed Iraqi forces are about to launch an assault aimed at retaking the western half of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
that is still under Islamic State control. If Mosul is completely secured, it largely would break the Death Eater group's "caliphate" in the country.

However,
facts are stubborn; statistics are more pliable...
Iraqi and U.S. officials have said maintaining security in a post-IS Iraq will be just as difficult -- preventing a resurgence of the snuffies and containing political divisions among Iraq's Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds. Both countries have talked of keeping some U.S. troops long term to back Iraq's security forces in that task, a recognition that complete American withdrawal at the end of 2011 was a mistake.

Yahya Sinwar Elected Hamas’ Gaza Chief
[ENGLISH.ALMANAR.LB] Paleostinian resistance movement Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, elected a member of its armed wing as its new Gazoo head Monday, Hamas officials said.

"Yahya Sinwar was elected to head the Hamas political office in the Gazoo Strip", the officials said.

He will succeed Ismail Haniya, who is seen by many observers as the most likely successor to Hamas’s current exiled leader Khaled Meshaal.

In September 2015, Sinwar was added to the US terrorism blacklist alongside two other members of Hamas’s military wing, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades.

A graduate in Arabic language, he was born in the Khan Younis refugee camp in southern Gazoo and founded "Majd," one of Hamas’s intelligence services.

Arrested by Israeli occupation authorities in 1988 for "terrorist activity," Sinwar was sentenced to four life sentences before being released in October 2011 under an agreement to exchange more than 1,000 Paleostinian prisoners for the release of Gilad Shalit, an Israeli soldier captured five years earlier.

Hamas has been conducting internal elections for several months.
The Times of Israel adds:
Yahya Sinwar, 55, considered one of Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",’s most ruthless leaders, generally avoids the limelight, but is seen as an unpredictable hardliner who inspires the loyalty of Hamas’s military wing’s leadership. He was sentenced to life in 1989 for murdering Paleostinian collaborators with Israel.

The election of Sinwar as Hamas’s Gazoo leader signals the ascendance of the terror group’s military wing, the Qassam Brigades, which now holds more sway in the Strip than the politicianship.

He is considered hawkish even within Hamas, and opposes any compromise in its policies regarding the Paleostinian Authority and Israel. Even from prison, he was one of the main opponents of the Shalit exchange deal that saw him freed because he regarded the terms, one Israeli soldier for 1,027 prisoners, as a surrender to Israel’s conditions

Washington accuses him of continuing to advocate kidnapping of Israeli soldiers as a bargaining chip for Paleostinian prisoners.

Kobi Michael, an analyst and former head of the Paleostinian Desk at Israel’s Ministry for Strategic Affairs, said the appointment would cause alarm among Israeli politicians.

"He represents the most radical and extreme line of Hamas," he told news hounds. "Sinwar believes in armed resistance. He doesn’t believe in any sort of cooperation with Israel."
More from Ynet:
Born into a family of fighters, which was an integral part of the military wing, Sanwar is considered to be ascetic, strong, tough and the possessor of extreme discipline.

During Operation Protective Edge, the new leader’s brother, Mohammad Sanwar--who was the architect of the Shalit deal--had his home attacked by the IDF.

The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit confirmed at the time that, with the cooperation with the Shin Bet, the homes of two senior Hamas activists had been attacked after they were being used as a command and control center of the organization, among them, the home of Mohammad Sanwar who was responsible for forces in Khan Yunis.

As far as Sanwar’s new deputy is concerned, Khalil al-Haya has also earned a reputation for being among the more radical elements of Hamas and was a member of the negotiating team in the Shalit negotiations.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Nasrallah tightens his belt
[IsraelTimes] Hezbollah in 2017 is nothing like the group that fought against Israel in 2006. It is an army in every way. It operates artillery forces and UAVs, gathers combat (and non-combat) intelligence, and cooperates with other armies, including apparently the Russian Air Force in Aleppo, Syria.

Led by firebrand
...firebrands are noted more for audio volume and the quantity of spittle generated than for any actual logic in their arguments...
holy man Hassan Nasrallah, Hezbollah has extraordinary military capabilities by any measure. According to Israel, the group has more than 100,000 rockets in its arsenal, together with strategic weapons such as anti-ship missiles, with reserves of elite commando troops and impressive anti-aircraft capabilities.

But Hezbollah’s challenges have also shifted sharply from 11 years ago.

First, Israel is not its top priority at the moment, as shown by what seems to be reduced motivation to engage in terror attacks against Israel over the short term. Hezbollah is spread out over two countries -- Syria and Leb -- and is engaged in combat on almost every battlefield in Syria.

Hezbollah, which allocated at least one-third of its combat force to Syria, has lost more than 1,700 of its people in the fighting there, according to some estimates. For comparison’s sake, the number of casualties that it suffered during the Second Leb War is estimated at 650 to 700. Approximately 6,000 of its people were maimed in Syria.

The war effort is also putting a strain on Hezbollah’s coffers, as it tries to keep up its social welfare programs and provide for the families of those killed and maimed on top of everything else.

So Hezbollah is doing what any other army would do -- tightening its belt, according to Israeli officials, who monitor the terror group’s movements closely.

Hezbollah is consolidating various Death Eater units and trying to decrease the enormous operational expenditures resulting from the fighting in Syria, and at times tries to do something that Israeli army officials will recognize: reduce service conditions.

That’s not to say Hezbollah is neglecting preparedness for another war with Israel, even as it refuses to draw down in Syria.

Hezbollah troops are positioned around Aleppo in northern Syria, as well as on the Syrian Golan Heights in the south, just across the Israeli border. Recent victories by the Syrian army have led to a relative calm from rebel groups, and its main rival, the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
, is on its heels thanks to the US-led coalition’s bombing campaign.

AMAL Demo outside al-Jadeed after Channel Accused of 'Insulting' al-Sadr
[An Nahar] Young men from AMAL Movement staged a protest outside al-Jadeed TV's building in Beirut on Monday evening after the TV network was accused of "insulting" AMAL founder Imam Moussa al-Sadr.

"AMAL Movement demonstrators hurled stones at al-Jadeed's building and tried to storm it," the TV network reported.

LBCI television said AMAL supporters "charged against each other outside al-Jadeed TV's building after some of them tried to storm the building amid a heavy deployment by security forces."

State-run National News Agency said "young men riding cycle of violences rallied outside al-Jadeed TV's building in Wata el-Msaitbeh, chanting pro-Moussa al-Sadr slogans."

AMAL MP Hani Qobeissi had earlier in the day accused al-Jadeed of "insulting" al-Sadr whom he described as "the first defender of Leb."

"The language of mockery and disrespect showed that your $70 million contract with some remnants of the Libyan regime to print their books is more important to you than all the causes of the country and its people," Qobeissi said in a statement.

"AMAL Movement with its deaders, maimed, cadres and leader will not confront you, because you are too little for that," the MP added.

Resistance Brigades gunnies had attacked al-Jadeed's building in 2012 in protest at an interview with Islamist holy man Ahmed al-Asir
...Leb Salafist holy man with the usual grouch against Shiites. Currently on the run, he seems intent on reigniting the Leb civil war...

Syrian regime forces used chemical weapons in Aleppo: HRW
[ARA] Syrian government forces used chemical weapons in opposition-controlled parts of Aleppo during battles to retake the city late last year, Human Rights Watch said in a report published on Monday.

The findings add to mounting evidence of the use of banned chemical weapons in the six-year-old Syrian civil war and could strengthen calls by Britannia, La Belle France and the United States for sanctions against Syrian officials.

Government helicopters dropped chlorine bombs "in residential areas in Aleppo on at least eight occasions between November 17 and December 13, 2016," the New York-based group said.

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), which oversees a global treaty banning toxic warfare, had no immediate comment.

Syria and its ally Russia, which helped state troops in the Aleppo assault, have repeatedly denied using chemical weapons in the conflict. They blame opposition hard boyz seeking to topple the government of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Oppressor of the Syrians and the Lebs...
Human Rights Watch said its report, which was based on interviews with witnesses, analysis of videos and photos and social media posts, did not find proof of Russian involvement in the chemical attacks, but noted Moscow’s key role in helping the government to retake Aleppo.

"The attacks, some of which included multiple munitions, killed at least nine civilians, including four children, and injured around 200," it said.

Fighting Hezbollah Tops Agenda of Netanyahu-Trump Meeting
[ENGLISH.ALMANAR.LB] Zionist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is preparing to raise the issue of fighting Hezbollah during his upcoming meeting with the US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
, according to Israeli media outlets which added that Tel Aviv aims at paralyzing the party financially.

Netanyahu will demand that Us administration imposes crippling sanctions on Iran in order to let it reconsider its support to Hezbollah, the Zionist reports added.

Maariv newspaper mentioned that the Hezbollah major military threat to ’Israel’ will be also discussed during the meeting, as the Netanyahu wants Washington to conclude a deal with Russia to exclude Iran and Hezbollah from the Syrian formula.

The reports noted that the Zionists are frustrated with the Russian statements about Hezbollah anti-terror role, calling on Moscow to build an alliance with Washington because "granting Iran a major role in Syria endangers the Israeli entity."

Hezbollah leader optimistic about 'idiot' Donald Trump in White House
[INDEPENDENT.CO.UK] The leader of Leb’s Hezbollah, a murderous Moslem Shiite group the US has designated a foreign terrorist organization, publicly expressed his optimism over having an "idiot" in the White House.

"We are very optimistic that when an idiot settles in the White House and boasts about his idiocy, this is the beginning of relief for the oppressed around the world," Hezbollah’s Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah said in a speech, referencing President Trump.

Nasrallah added Trump has revealed the "true face of the US administration," which he calls "ugly, unjust, criminal, and racist."
