Trump Names Lt. Gen. HR McMaster As National Security Adviser
Yes, it's a ZeroHedge link, but it's a meat and potatoes article, and if I can avoid giving the Fake News sites a link, then I will.

Yemen requests UN to designate Houthis as ‘terrorists’
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The legitimate government of Yemeni President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi has requested the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
Security Council to designate Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
militias as "terrorists".

In a letter read out by Yemen’s envoy to the United Nations Khaled al-Yamani on Saturday, Iranian interferences by supplying weapons to Houthi militias were highlighted.

Yamani submitted the complaint in a letter to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

Meanwhile,
...back at the argument, Livia grabbed for Jane's hair to make her point. Jane elbowed her in the face in rebuttal...
a report issued by UN experts on the situation in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
revealed that Houthi militias’ violations range from corruption to torture.

The report exposed the militias’ financial corruption and said that they violated the humanitarian international law during the ongoing conflict in Yemen.

China-Japan-Koreas
China suspends North Korean coal imports
China will suspend all imports of coal from North Korea until the end of the year, the Commerce Ministry announced Saturday, in a surprise move that would cut off a major financial lifeline for Pyongyang and significantly enhance the effectiveness of U.N. sanctions.

Coal is North Korea’s largest export item, and also China’s greatest point of leverage over the regime.
The cynic in me wonders what China will buy from North Korea instead. And how big China's coal reserves are.
The ministry said the ban would come into force Sunday and be effective until Dec. 31.

China said the move was designed to implement November’s United Nations Security Council resolution that tightened sanctions against the regime in the wake of its last nuclear test. But experts said the move also reflected Beijing’s deep frustration with North Korea over its recent missile test and the assassination of Kim Jong Un’s half brother in Malaysia.
The missile test was likely done either with China's blessing or with China's blind eye. But whacking Fredo may have been one step too far.
Kim Jong Nam had been hosted and protected by China for many years, and his murder, if proved to be conducted on Pyongyang’s orders, would be seen as a direct affront to Beijing, experts said.

China has also come under significant international pressure to do more to rein in North Korea’s nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs, while Chinese President Xi Jinping is believed to have become increasingly irritated by Kim Jong Un’s behavior.
China may also see this as a useful counter to Trump's willingness to mix it up on the South China Sea. We'll give you something if you respond in kind...
North Korea is China’s fourth-biggest supplier of coal. Although China announced in April that it would ban North Korean coal imports to comply with U.N. sanctions, it made exceptions for deliveries intended for the “people’s well-being” and not connected to North Korea’s missile programs. In practice, that exception was the cover for coal to continue to flow across the border in huge quantities, with imports of non-lignite coal up 14.5 percent last year to 22.5 million metric tons (24.8 million U.S. tons).
Yes, grasshopper, the Chinese lied...
But in a sign that Beijing’s patience was running out, it rejected a coal shipment from North Korea worth about $1 million Monday, the day after the test of an intermediate-range ballistic missile, South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency reported.

China has long been reluctant to do anything that might threaten the stability of the North Korean regime — mainly because it fears that the reunification of the Korean Peninsula could bring South Korea, an American ally that hosts U.S. troops, right up to its border. Given that a total ban on coal imports could be destabilizing, it remains to be seen how firmly the pledge will be carried out.

But Pyongyang’s unwillingness to consider China’s interests has badly damaged — or even destroyed — trust between the long-standing allies.

“China still places a premium on stability, but Xi Jinping is growing more and more frustrated with Kim Jong Un,” said Paul Haenle, director of the Carnegie-Tsinghua Center in Beijing, adding that the missile test and the assassination were seen as “serious offenses.”

“Beijing took the assassination as a direct affront to China. Xi is less willing to tolerate these provocations,” he said. “China is putting a squeeze on its economic lifeline to send a message to Pyongyang.”

Wang Weimin, a professor at the School of International Relations and Public Affairs at Fudan University in Shanghai, said sympathy for North Korea’s national security concerns had disappeared in Beijing, and “blood ties” between the countries had been broken as it became clear that the regime could not be tamed.

“If we choose an ally that can’t be tamed, we might become the biggest loser,” he said. “That’s why we are more and more strict with North Korea. Now self-interest is central. We won’t pay attention to North Korea’s interests anymore.”
Perhaps this is the time for Mr. Trump to extend my offer to the Chinese: divide North Korea in two, between the South and China. Each takes care of its own; the ordinary Nork citizens get to choose where they live, and the USA, after a brief observation period, agrees to leave the Korean peninsula. Win-win-win-win for everyone except Fat Boy and his sycophantic generals.
President Trump has also called on China to put more pressure on North Korea to stop its nuclear weapons program, and the subject may have come up during a telephone conversation he had with Xi earlier this month. China has “total control over North Korea,” Trump said in an interview on “Fox & Friends” in early January. “And China should solve that problem. And if they don’t solve the problem, we should make trade very difficult for China.”
It's called, "the art of the deal"...

Fifth Column
New York Times obituary for Blind Sheikh Abdel Rahman a classic of its ilk
[AmericanThinker] When an anti-American monster dies, count on the New York Times to go out of its way to evoke sympathy in its obituary, as a way of claiming “balance” and objectivity.  Even for a monster that wanted to cause mass casualties in the name of enslaving us under Sharia law as dhimmis.

And by its own standards, the Times succeeded yesterday, commemorating the passing of Sheikh Abdel Rahman.

In the lede sentence, it acknowledged he was the  “blind Islamic cleric whose fulminating sermons inspired violent fundamentalist movements.” But after stipulating the “inspiring” nature of his words and leaving the violent consequences utterly vague, the Times went on to play its sympathy violin:

Mr. Abdel Rahman, who was known as the blind sheikh, spent years in the most severe solitary confinement, barred from communicating with his followers, praying with other Muslim prisoners or even listening to Arabic radio. Failing blood circulation due to diabetes had killed the sensation in his fingertips, making it impossible for him to read his Braille Islamic texts.

Poor boy! There is no mention that the reason he was put in solitary and banned from communicating was because he had been communicating terror plans to his radical leftist lawyer, Lynne Stewart, to pass along to terrorists, convicted of same and currently living out her days in federal prison, as she fights cancer and pleas for compassionate release.

Home Front: WoT
New Homeland Security guidelines aggressively crack down on illegal immigration
[Christian Science Monitor] FEBRUARY 19, 2017 --Homeland Security Secretary John F. Kelly signed new guidelines on Saturday giving federal authorities the power to more aggressively crack down on illegal immigration, marking what experts call a major shift in US immigration policies.

Under the new guidelines, outlined in a pair of memos, the agency plans to hire thousands of additional enforcement agents, expand the pool of immigrants who are prioritized for removal, enlist local law enforcement to help make arrests, and speed up deportation hearings ‐ directives that would replace nearly all guidelines put in place by previous administrations.

"The surge of immigration at the southern border has overwhelmed federal agencies and resources and has created a significant national security vulnerability to the United States," Secretary Kelly wrote, citing a surge of 10,000 to 15,000 additional apprehensions per month at the US-Mexico border between 2015 and 2016.

Since taking office in January, President Trump has come under fire for what immigrant rights advocates have denounced as unprecedented action against undocumented people in the United States. In a series of executive orders last month, the president expanded the power of immigration officers and announced plans to fulfill his campaign promises by building a wall along the southern US border.

Raids in early February, in which Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents (ICE) rounded up more than 680 people in nearly a dozen states, spurred widespread fear across immigrant communities.

Yes, it's a "major shift", but it constitutes no more than a restoration of our traditional policies toward illegal immigrants, and away from the Obama administration policy of letting in uncontrolled swarms of "undocumented Democrats" to skew our elections leftward.

on Sunday decided to seek support from the Rangers to combat terrorism in Punjab days after a suicide kaboom in Lahore killed at least 15 people and maimed 85 others.

The details regarding the nature and extent of support to be provided by the Rangers will be finalised later, according to a statement released by the Punjab government.

The suicide attack on Lahore's Mall Road claimed by the Jamaat-ul-Ahrar hit a protest of chemists and pharmaceuticals manufacturers which was attended by up to 400 people last Monday. At least six police officials were killed in the blast.

Following the attack, Punjab’s law enforcement agencies had launched a province-wide crackdown on banned murderous Moslem organizations.

Meeting participants today decided that indiscriminate action must be taken against banned outfits, and that all small and large agents with links to banned outfits must be incarcerated

The apex committee agreed to widen the scope of intelligence-based operations in the province and resolved to punish controllers of terrorists, the statement said, adding that there will be strict surveillance of Punjab's border districts.

Sehwan attacker bypassed security check in CCTV footage: police
[DAWN] Sindh police on Sunday released a video allegedly showing the Sehwan attacker bypassing a security check at the Lal Shahbaz Qalandar shrine last week.

The suicide kaboom targeting the shrine on Thursday killed at least 88 people and injured hundreds others. It is one among a deadly series of attacks carried out by Death Eaters in recent weeks.

Inspector General Police Sindh A.D. Khawaja while addressing a presser said the man shown in the CCTV footage is "99 per cent" the jacket wallah. He described the man as an Afghan national, saying that the 'attacker' saw the police officer at the gate and decided to go the other way.

The attacker is suspected of involvement in the Shikarpur and Jacobabad blasts, the IGP said, adding that the involvement of a man named Hafeez Brohi in the Sehwan attack could not be ruled out, as he had a terrorist network in Sindh.

The IGP said that police have tossed in the slammer
I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece!
one man in connection to the Sehwan carnage in Johi, a town in Sindh's Dadu district. The suspected controller has been shifted to some holy man's guesthouse an undisclosed location for further investigation, he added.

The Sindh government will have the case investigated through Sindh police’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), as was done in suicide kabooms in Jacobabad during Ashura and at Shikarpur’s shrine, and then again last year in Shikarpur on the second day of Eidul Azha.

Sehwan police had lodged a case on Friday against one suicide bomber and three controllers involved in the Feb 16 suicide kaboom at the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar. The accused remained unidentified.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Turkish, Russian commanders control line between FSA and Syrian regime in al-Bab
[Hurriyet] Control of an emptied road that separates the Ankara-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) from the forces of the Syrian regime in the south of Syria’s al-Bab has been given to Turkish and Russian commanders on either side, with the aim of avoiding any confrontation, sources told daily Hürriyet.

Sources speaking on condition of anonymity said that the road between Turkey-backed FSA rebels and forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad had been formed after the former forces started advancing to the south after encircling al-Bab from the north, east and west, and the latter trying to move to the northern more parts of the city from the south.

The emptied road - between rival forces that are both fighting the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in al-Bab - is comprised of between eight to 10 kilometers linking the town of Manij to Aleppo, sources stated. While the line emptied of soldiers is as narrow as 200 meters in some places, it widens to as much as one kilometer in others.

FSA members to the north of the line are led by a Turkish commander, while Syrian regime forces to the south of the road are led by a Russian commander, sources said.

With a deal reached between Turkey and Russia, a cease-fire across Syria has mostly held since Dec. 30, 2016. Ankara and Moscow, which support opposite sides in the six-year-old war, say they are trying to turn the cease-fire into a permanent truce and launch credible peace negotiations.

Turkey backs FSA rebels as part of its ongoing Euphrates Shield operation that it launched in August last year in order to clear its border of terrorists.

Al-Jubeir: Iran is the main sponsor of global terror

"Iran remains the single main sponsor of terrorism in the world," Adel al-Jubeir told delegates at the Munich Security Conference. "It’s determined to upend the order in Middle East ... (and) until and unless Iran changes its behavior it would be very difficult to deal with a country like this."

Fneish Says Resistance Complements Army's Anti-Israel Role
[An Nahar] Sport and Youth Minister Mohammed Fneish of Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
stressed Sunday that Hizbullah's military role in the face of Israel complements that of the Lebanese army.

"The Resistance enjoys the awareness and preparedness to pursue the Israeli enemy wherever its threat is present, in harmony with the army's role. This stance might not please some parties, but we insist on it," Fneish said during a Hizbullah ceremony in south Leb.

"The equation has become a reality and no one can dampen its characteristics, strength and results, especially that it has offered the Lebanese a feeling of serenity, recaptured the land, deterred the Israeli enemy, and made its leaders fear the growing strength of the Resistance," the minister added.
That'd be the Hezbullies, natch...
He underlined that "no one can think of weakening the Resistance's capabilities, unless they are stupid, conspiring or ignorant of their country's interest."

"The Paleostine experience is the best testament about those who counted on the U.S., Europe and the international organizations," Fneish pointed out. "Do you want us to renounce the strength of the resistance that is in our hands in order to endorse a futile approach that relinquishes objectives and rights?"

President Michel Aoun
...a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah...
had recently stressed that Hizbullah's weapons "do not contradict with the State," drawing criticism from some of the party's opponents.
