Zakhilwal hopeful on partial reopening of Pak-Afghan routes
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Afghan Ambassador to Pakistain says he is hopeful that the travel routes between Afghanistan and Pakistain will partially reopen today.

He said the Afghan authorities are hopeful that the travel routes will completely reopen in coming three or four days.

Zakhilwal further added that elder men, patients and children will be able to travel today while those who have travelled to Pakistain with visas will be able to return back to Afghanistan.

He urged the Afghan people to travel with full documents including visas once the travel routes are fully reopened.

Pakistain closed all travel routes between the two countries nearly ten days ago following a series of deadly attacks in the country.

The Pak officials claimed that the attacks were plotted and carried out by the Lions of Islam stationed inside the Afghan soil.

The decision was particularly taken after a deadly suicide kaboom rocked the Sehwan city of Pakistain, leaving over 70 people dead and scores of others maimed.

ISIS may develop regional power base in Northwest of Afghanistan: ISW
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The loyalists of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group may develop a regional power base in northwestern Afghanistan, the Institute for the Study of War has said in a report, citing the recent activities by the terror group northern parts of the country.

The institute particularly pointed towards the recent killing of ICRC workers and abduction of some of their workers in northern Jawzjan province.

According to ISW, the loyalists of the terror group may particularly use the opportunity provided to them with the absence of the Junbish-e-Millie fighters led by the Vice President General Abdul Rashid Dostum
...ethnic Uzbek warlord who distinguished himself fighting the Soviets and the Taliban. The story that he had a bad guy run over with a tank is an exaggeration. It was an armored personnel carrier...
"ISIS’s expansion in the region comes as First Vice President Abdul Rashid Dostum, who maintains significant influence in the North through his Junbish Militia, remains confined to his home surrounded by his militia in Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
City following a scandal involving the alleged assault of former Jowzjan Provincial Governor Ahmad Eschi in November 2016 by his bodyguards," the US-based think tank said in a report.

The report further added that "The lack of reported Junbish militia action to combat ISIS-linked gunnies in Northern Afghanistan may represent the absence of Junbish militias. Alternatively, Dostum may be sanctioning the expansion of ISIS in the region in order to demonstrate his significance to Afghan security in an attempt to relieve the political pressure to prosecute him for the alleged assault."

"Meanwhile,
...back at the hanging, Butch continued with his last words, trying not to repeat himself too often......
the ANSF is currently undergoing a U.S.-led force regeneration process during their 2016-2017 winter campaign. The Afghan National Unity Government has historically relied on a joint force of ANSF units and Junbish gunnies to provide security in northwestern Afghanistan. The lessened presence of Dostum’s militia while the ANSF rests and refits units may be granting ISIS-linked gunnies increased freedom of movement in the region," the report added.

This comes as the Afghan officials have long been expressing concerns regarding the attempts being made by the ISIS loyalists to expand in northern parts of the country as they look to infiltrate further into the Central Asian States.

Anglican Church in Ismailia receives 30 families escaping attacks on Christians in North Sinai
[AlAhram] The Anglican Church in Egypt's Ismailia has received almost 30 Christian families, including 150 people, who escaped North Sinai's Capital al-Arish after several terrorist attacks targeting Christians in the city, church official Nabil Shukrallah Basta told Ahram Arabic news website on Saturday.

Basta said that the families have been housed in different areas of the city, including at a youth hostel, and that more Christian families are expected to arrive today.

Basta also mentioned the support the church has received from the Dubara Church in Cairo, along with other churches, as well as the support of the Ismailia governorate in containing the crisis.

In the past few days, churches in Ismailia have received dozens of Coptic families who escaped the North Sinai city for fear of being targeted.

Egypt's Coptic Orthodox Church issued a statement on Friday condemning "the repeated terrorist attacks targeting Egyptian Christians in North Sinai."

Social solidarity minister Ghada Waly visited on Saturday the International Youth Hostel in Ismailia to check on the Christian families staying there, assuring that this is a temporary situation and that they will be back to their homes within days.

Ismailia Governor Yassin Taher said that the displaced families are welcome in the governorate, and that he has received many calls from the residents of Ismailia offering to host the displaced families.

Over the past two weeks, eight terrorist attacks have targeted Christians in North Sinai, including the murder of three people in al-Arish on Wednesday and Thursday.

Activists remember Boko Haram killing of Nigerian boys
[AA.TR] Nigeria’s #BringBackOurGirls movement on Saturday commemorated the third anniversary of the Boko Haram massacre of dozens of schoolboys at a government college in northeastern Buni Yadi town of Yobe.

Activists and representatives of the parents of the boys - estimated at around 59 or 29 - gathered in the capital city Abuja to hold a memorial for the students who were mowed down by Boko Haram militants at their school on February 25, 2014. The school authorities insist 29 had been killed, although some local accounts claim they were 59.

“The only ‘crime’ of our Buni Yadi schoolboys was that they were bold and ambitious enough to seek a better and more assured future through education,” the #BringBackOurGirls movement said in a statement released at the memorial.

#BringBackOurGirls movement is primarily concerned with pushing Nigerian authorities to do more to find some 276 girls abducted on the night of April 14, 2014 by militants. But the group also speaks on issues affecting all victims of Boko Haram insurgency.

‘Everyone hates the police!’ Teargas used as anti-Le Pen protest in France descends into violence
[RT] Riot police were forced to use tear gas to contain a protest staged by anti-fascist and far-left union protesters in Nantes in western La Belle France. The demonstration was initially organized against a speech by the National Front leader Marine Le Pen scheduled for Sunday.

According to RT’s Jonathan Moadab, the demonstrators, many of whom wore hoods and masks, threw smoke bombs and even a Molotov cocktail at officers, who had summoned a water cannon to the central square. At least one officer has been taken to hospital after receiving a burn to his leg, according to the regional newspaper Ouest-La Belle France, which said that two people have been incarcerated

Belgian Kurd becomes Federal Secretary, Turkish hissy fit
[ARA] The Phlegmish nationalist MP Zuhal Demir, a Kurd born in Belgium, was sworn in as the new Secretary of State (Junior Minister) of Belgium.

She took over the job of her colleague Elke Sleurs and became the new Secretary of State for Equal Rights, Disabled Persons, Scientific Policy, Urban Policy and fighting Poverty.

"We congratulate Zuhal Demir on her appointment as Secretary of State," Falah Mustafa, the head of foreign affairs of the Kurdistan Region said on Saturday.

Demir, 36, was born in the Limburg city of Genk. Her parents immigrated to Genk from the Kurdish town of Dersim in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
From January 2013 to the end of 2015, Zuhal Demir was District Mayor in the central district of Antwerp. She left the post to return to her hometown of Genk.

The Turkish media responded negatively to the appointment, calling it a scandal, accusing her of attending a meeting of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in Belgium.

However,
it was a brave man who first ate an oyster...
Demir says she is a pacifist and has no sympathy for the PKK.

"Just because you have Kurdish roots, it doesn’t mean you are supporting the PKK. On the contrary, violence can never be a solution," she said.
Ask Kaiser Bill. Ask Harold Godwinson. Ask Napoleon Bonapart. Ask any Gepid.
Earlier a picture was shown of Demir attending a meeting with a PKK flag and a portrait of the imprisoned PKK-leader Abdullah Ocalan.

"I have never attended a PKK-meeting, but a meeting of a cultural Kudish association in Antwerpen. For years, I plead for a peaceful solution for the Kurds in Turkey. I am sick and tired of these suspicions," she said.

Earlier the Turkish media posted a picture claiming that Demir was a female fighter of the PKK, but she denies this. "I am not the woman on the picture of the Kurdish fighters. They did this on purpose to frame me," she said, threatening to take legal action.

Judge won't dismiss Bergdahl case over Trump comments
A military judge will not dismiss charges against Bowe Bergdahl despite President Trump's harsh criticism of the Army sergeant during the campaign. According to The Associated Press, Army Col. Jeffery Nance ruled on Friday that while Trump's comments were "disturbing and disappointing" they hadn't prevented the soldier from receiving a fair trial.

Bergdahl's lawyers have maintained that the case against their client should be dropped in light of Trump's public remarks. Trump repeatedly blasted Bergdahl during the presidential campaign, labeling him a "traitor."

"We're tired of Sgt. Bergdahl, who's a traitor, a no-good traitor, who should have been executed," Trump said in October 2015.

“Thirty years ago, he would have been shot,” he added.

The prosecutors, however, argued that the comments are not relevant to the case since they were made before Trump became the commander in chief.
Though it does suggest that Bergdahl won't get a pardon from Trump if indeed he is convicted...
Bergdahl is charged with desertion and misbehavior before the enemy after walking off his post in Afghanistan in 2009. He was later captured by the Taliban and remained a prisoner until 2014, when the Obama administration secured his release in exchange for five Taliban prisoners.

Bergdahl is scheduled for trial in April and could face life in prison.
I think Trump is smart enough to keep quiet and let the system work.

Body parts of shrine ‘bomber’ preserved, says CTD
[DAWN] KARACHI: Investigators have made some progress in the Lal Shahbaz Qalandar shrine blast probe as a team of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) assigned with the job has collected 46 parts of the suspected bomber’s body, which have been preserved for further examination to ascertain his identity, a top official said on Saturday.

CTD SSP Omer Shahid Hamid, who is leading one of the investigation teams, speaking at a presser and later on speaking to Dawn, said that DNA samples of the suspected attacker had been taken for identification purpose.

However,
facts are stubborn; statistics are more pliable...
he regretted that if there had been a nationwide DNA database, it would have helped them to ascertain the identity of the bomber more easily.

Mr Hamid said three separate teams were working on the case -- one was led by another CTD SSP, Pervez Chandio, and another by the district police of Jamshoro and Dadu.

He disclosed that several persons had been taken into custody by the CTD and the district police for interrogation but so far no ’hard and fast’ evidence had emerged during the investigation.

The CTD SSP said they had some leads and were working on them. Mr Hamid said that since 2010, suspected Death Eater Hafeez Brohi, or Pandrani, had been found involved in all terror acts in upper Sindh and that the police suspected his network’s involvement in the deadly kaboom in Sehwan. He said Brohi had remained associated with the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi
... a 'more violent' offshoot of Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain. LeJ's purpose in life is to murder anyone who's not of utmost religious purity, starting with Shiites but including Brelvis, Ahmadis, Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Rosicrucians, and just about anyone else you can think of. They are currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of al-Qaeda ...
"It did not mean that we are ruling out other options," he added.

The CTD official said they were also questioning a detained suspect, Usman, who was tossed in the slammer

during a botched suicide kaboom in Shikarpur recently.

Earlier, speaking at a presser, Mr Hamid said the CTD team had arrested three suspected hitmen in Malir’s Jaffar-e-Tayyar Society.

"The held hitmen [have been] identified as Anwar Husain, Asif Mumtaz and Khurram Shaharyar" belonging to the "Muttahida Qaumi Movement
...English: United National Movement, generally known as MQM, is the 3rd largest political party and the largest secular political party in Pakistain with particular strength in Sindh. Talks with Kabul on terror concerns under way
[DAWN] Pakistain and Afghanistan have started negotiating a mechanism for addressing each other’s concerns over terrorism and can strike a deal next week.

This was disclosed by Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj PrunefaceAziz
...Adviser to Pak Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on National Security and Foreign Affairs, who believes in good jihadis and bad jihadis as a matter of national policy...
at a media briefing on the upcoming Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) summit.

"Both sides have said that terrorism is a common enemy and both sides agree that there should be cooperation for dealing with this issue. We are holding discussions for a joint mechanism," he said.

Pakistain and Afghanistan have long accused each other of harbouring terrorist sanctuaries, and the issue once again came into limelight after the recent spate of terrorist attacks in Pakistain, which claimed over 100 lives. Pakistain reacted angrily and closed border crossings with Afghanistan, demanded handover of 76 wanted snuffies and shelled terrorist hideouts on the Afghan side of the border.

Dozens of Lebanese cross Israeli border during protest
[IsraelTimes] Demonstrators pass international line, though not fence, before being dispersed by IDF troops with smoke grenades, tear gas.

Dozens of Lebanese citizens demonstrated on the Israeli border Saturday, and were dispersed by Israeli troops. Some of the demonstrators crossed the international border line with Israel, though not the security fence which lies inside Israeli territory.

The demonstration took place across from Kibbutz Manara. IDF troops fired smoke grenades and tear gas towards the protesters and the crowds dispersed.

Walla News reported that the demonstration came in response to Hezbollah claims that Israeli troops had crossed the border in the area and installed spying equipment.

Israel and Hezbollah fought a punishing war in 2006, but have maintained a tense calm watched over by UN peacekeepers on the border since then, punctuated by several deadly cross-border incidents.

Israeli officials have raised alarms in recent years that Hezbollah may be bolstering its positions in southern Leb and in the Syrian Golan Heights, and a court recently ordered the ammonia tank in the city of Haifa to be shut amid fears a missile strike on the facility could cause mass casualties.

Lebanese President Michel Aoun
...a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah...
, who draws support from Hezbollah, recently called for the terror group to remain armed to "resist Israel," despite a UN resolution forbidding militias in Leb.

On Sunday, an Arabic newspaper reported that Nasrallah’s threats last week came after Israel passed a message to Hezbollah warning it of a forceful response to any attack from Leb or Syria, where Hezbollah has been helping prop up Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Supressor of the Damascenes...
’s regime by fighting against rebel groups seeking to oust him.

The message was passed along to the Leb terror group via an unnamed Arab emissary, according to a report in the Arabic-language London-based al-Hayat newspaper. It was not clear exactly when Israel sent the message or what prompted it.
Ynet has videos filmed from the Lebanese side of the border.

CENTCOM commander visits Kurdish-led SDF troops amidst ongoing Raqqa operation
[ARA] General Joseph Votel, head of the U.S. Central Command, visited Kurdish headquarters at the Kobani and Raqqa frontlines on Friday to discuss the final phase of the Euphrates Wrath campaign to capture Raqqa in another sign of support for the Syrian Democratic Forces.

General Votel’s visit to the Kobani and Raqqa frontlines comes a few days after Republican Senator John Maverick McCain
... the Senator-for-Life from Arizona, former presidential candidate and even more former foot soldier in the Reagan Revolution. As an ordinary citizen he greased the infamous hookers peeing on the Obamabed in Moscow dossier in an attempt to smear President Trump...
visited Kobani ahead of a review of U.S. strategy and plans against ISIS. The visit was arranged with the help of the US army. US army and US officials have also had meeting with Turkish officials the last few weeks.

According to the front man of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Talal Silo, General Votel discussed the recent developments of the SDF’s Raqqa campaign and ways to increase coordination and support.

"General Votel’s visit to meet with SDF commanders is a signal that the U.S. military is preparing for the next, and likely final, phase in the campaign to seize Raqqa," Nicholas A. Heras, Bacevich Fellow at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS), told ARA News.

"It is, in fact, a great honor for the SDF to host the leader of the entire U.S. Central Command. It demonstrates that the SDF is trusted with the General’s life and well-being," he added.

"It also demonstrates that General Votel considers the SDF to be strong and close enough partners to be willing to personally visit SDF leaders to confer with them on the strategy to deal the death blow to ISIS in Raqqa," Heras told ARA News.

The visit also comes a day after pro-The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
rebel groups in Syria threatened to attack the SDF-held town of Manbij, especially after the Turkish army and Salafist tough guys captured al-Bab city on Thursday.

US officials fear a Turkish attack on Manbij could significantly delay the ongoing SDF-led operation to isolate Raqqa. If the Turkey-backed rebels would attack Manbij, the SDF would have to send more fighters to protect Manbij from Turkey’s aggression.
