Militants marry for four times but use children as suicide bombers: Ghani
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
slammed the anti-government armed snuffies for their stance and their so-called holy war, saying the Afghan forces are facing enemies who are using children for suicide kabooms but they themselves marry for four times.

Speaking during a gathering to mark the national day of the Afghan forces, Ghani said the snuffies are being used as tools by the foreigners to do heroin smuggling and loot the natural resources of the country.

He also added that the snuffies are planting roadside kabooms and kill holy mans, teachers, engineers, and those people who are working for the betterment of the country.

Questioning Taliban’s stance to conduct insurgency under the name of Islam, President Ghanis said "Are Taliban ready to sit with Ulemas and offer justifications? Is rebellion allowed in Islam? Is it justified to wage war in a soil where Sharia is enforced in courts or the law of Taliban and their masters are superior to Islamic law?"

The remarks by President Ghani came as the United Nations
...aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society...
in a report earlier last year said they have recorded at 48 children recruited by the parties involved in the conflict.

The report also expressed concern
...meaning the brow was mildly wrinkled, the eyebrows drawn slightly together, and a thoughtful expression assumed, not that anything was actually done or indeed that any thought was actually expended...
s regarding the use of seminaries in the tribal regions along Durand Line for recruitment of children.

‘Up to 20 terror groups’ waging war in Afghanistan
[AA.TR] Up to 20 terrorist groups are waging war in Afghanistan, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
said Monday.
I generally dump them all into "Taliban" or "ISIS" groups unless there's a particular identification as to faction -- Haqqani network, Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, East Turkestan Islamic Movement, or Hizb-i-Islami-Hekmatyar. Pak Taliban's Mullah Fazlullah lives and operates from Afghanistan and probably within the country. So does Jamaat ul-Ahrar. Lashkar-e-Jhangvi flits back and forth across the Durrand Line with seeming impunity. There have been U.S. and Afghan air strikes on Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad camps and, if I remember correctly, HuJI. And of course there are the friendly Arab invaders affiliated with core al-Qaeda. No doubt Ghani and Abdullah and the intel community are aware of more.
In remarks made during a first-of-its-kind "Day of Security Forces" ceremony at the military airbase in the capital Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
, Ghani said: "There is not much of a difference between these terror groups. All of them, God forbid, want to destroy Afghanistan but use different tactics."

He paid tributes to the sacrifices of thousands of security personnel, many of whom have bit the dust and limbs in the ongoing violence in the country.

The president said Afghanistan did not want war but it was imposed on it. He questioned the legitimacy of the Taliban’s insurgency, and vowed to take more measures to strengthen and further equip Afghan forces in a bid to scale down casualties.

According to the U.S. government's Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction figures, 6,785 Afghan security personnel were killed between Jan. 1, 2016, and Nov. 12, 2016, with another 11,777 maimed. This is about 35 per cent more than in 2015, when some 5,000 security forces were killed after taking the nation-wide security responsibilities from the NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Originally it was a mutual defense pact directed against an expansionist Soviet Union. In later years it evolved into a mechanism for picking the American pocket while criticizing the cut of the American pants...
forces.

Also on Monday, Gen. John Nicholson, commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan, reiterated support for a peaceful, stable and prosperous Afghanistan. In a message to mark the "Day of Security Forces", Nicholson said NATO would continue providing training, assistance and support o the Afghan forces.

Taliban confirm commander’s death
In a rare admission, the Taliban in Afghanistan have acknowledged the death of their key commander in a U.S. Arclight airstrike, who was said to be serving as the myrmidon group’s interest in Kunduz province.

Afghan Taliban on their website Monday said Abdul Salam Akhund was killed in a U.S. air raid in the province’s restive Dasht-e-Archi district bordering Tajikistan.

The Afghan Ministry of Defense had announced the myrmidon’s death on Sunday.

Asadullah Omarkhail, front man for the provincial governor, told Anadolu Agency: "This is a major blow to the murderous Moslems who have been forced to flee Kunduz after a clean-up operation was launched by the security forces upon reclaiming Kunduz last year."

#1  I generally dump them all into "Taliban" or "ISIS" groups unless there's a particular identification as to faction

Since terror groups in general seem to freely lend and borrow key personnel except when they are directly fighting one another -- when members seem to desert the loser for the winner with equal ease -- that makes sense to me for our purposes. Just keeping track of who is leading which group in Mali, and where that group's allegiance lies, gives me a headache. Boko Haram is almost as bad, as we discovered when the original Al Qaeda-oriented leader brought in his faction to take over the ISIS-linked group and make it behave properly, while the other original Al Qaeda-oriented leader, having taken the main group to ISIS, now leads an Al Qaeda-linked faction by default, while decrying the other guy as a thief and a traitor... I think. In the meantime both are competing to show they are the jihadiest jihadis of all by sending girls and some boys to blow themselves up in marketplaces while the men rampage through remote villages, pillaging, plundering, and killing.

Somalia requests Saudi to intervene UAE’s military base in Berbera
Somali President Mohammed Abdullahi Farmajo requested from Saudi Arabia to intervene the United Arab Emirates’s plan to establish a military base in “Somaliland”. The Riyadh Post, quoting an official in the Somali government President Farmajo asked officials Saudis convince the UAE not to proceed with its plan to establish a military base in Berbera, Somaliland, which is not recognized by Mogadishu.
Given that Mogadishu doesn't even control Mogadishu...
The Somali president had visited Saudi Arabia last Thursday in his first foreign visit since he was elected president of Somalia, where King Salman bin Abdul Aziz, met in the capital, Riyadh, where the leaders of the two countries discussed bilateral cooperation and the latest developments in the region.

The report notes that Farmajo discussed the issue of al-Qaeda-linked Al shabaab in a meeting with Saudi’s Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz, attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Adel al-Jubeir and other senior Saudi officials.
Did Farmajo bow and scrape properly?
Somali president seeks to take advantage of the close ties between Saudi Arabia and the strategic UAE ally, the UAE to convince not to proceed with the establishment of a UAE military base in Berbera.

China-Japan-Koreas
China Warns US, S. Korea of ‘Consequences’ over THAAD Land Swap Deal
[ENGLISH.ALMANAR.LB] China announced that Washington and Seoul will face "consequences" over a land swap deal which will allow the US to host its THAAD missile defense system on South Korean soil ‐ a move which Beijing claims will undermine its own ballistic capabilities.

The agreement, which involves a land swap between Seoul and retail giant Lotte, was approved on Monday.

"We received a message that the board approved the exchange of land for THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) deployment," the South Korean Defense Ministry said in a statement, as quoted by AFP.

That news was met with disapproval from China’s Foreign Ministry, with front man Geng Shuang claiming the system "severely disrupts regional strategic balance and jeopardizes the strategic security interests of regional countries including China."

Beijing "will definitely take necessary measures to safeguard its security interests," he said during a news briefing, adding that "all the consequences entailed will be borne by the US and the Republic of Korea."

Europe
Turkey’s Erdogan ‘Not Welcome’ to Campaign in Austria
[ENGLISH.ALMANAR.LB] Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
is "not welcome" to hold campaign events in Austria ahead of April’s referendum on strengthening his powers, the foreign minister in Vienna said Monday.

Sebastian Kurz said that Erdogan campaigning over the controversial referendum would "increase friction" in Austria and "hinder the integration" of the country’s 360,000-strong Turkish origin minority, which includes 117,000 Turkish citizens.

"Campaign events are not welcome. Of course the Turkish president, like other senior politicians, can make bilateral visits to Europe and Austria for talks with brass hats," said Kurz.

"But we clearly reject bringing the Turkish campaign and polarisation to Austria," Kurz was quoted as saying in a foreign ministry statement.

The ministry said Erdogan’s previous visits to Austria and also Germany had created "tensions" between his supporters and Turks of Kurdish origin, which have increased since July’s attempted coup.

UN: Muslim Africans face discrimination in Germany
[AA.TR] Moslems of African descent face growing discrimination in Germany due to worrying levels of Islamophobia
...the irrational fear that Moslems will act the way they usually do...
, a UN monitoring group warned on Monday.
...also due to high levels of Muslim Africans misbehaving with one another and the locals, but that mustn't be mentioned.
Ricardo Sunga, chairman of the UN's Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent, announced results of a fact-finding visit to Germany at a news conference in Berlin.

"Moslems of African descent are facing increasingly difficult times in the enjoyment of their rights due to increased Islamophobia and Afrophobia," he said.

While praising Germany’s promotion of human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
and diversity, Sunga expressed concern
...meaning the brow was mildly wrinkled, the eyebrows drawn slightly together, and a thoughtful expression assumed, not that anything was actually done or indeed that any thought was actually expended...
over widespread problems faced by Africans, and said Moslem Africans often become victims of discrimination in the workplace or in schools.

"Moslem women of African descent face further discrimination when it comes to access to the labor market," he said, referring to discrimination against them due their appearance or Moslem dress.

"Many Moslem students of African descent describe their experiences in school as traumatic as they experience not only anti-Black racism but also anti-Moslem racism," he also added.

The UN’s expert group visited Germany this month to monitor the human rights situation of people of African descent in Germany, whose population estimated at 800,000.

Yes, Le Pen could win in France
[YAHOO] With the polls narrowing and one of her main rivals embroiled in an expenses scandal, far-right leader Marine Le Pen could feasibly become French president in May, senior politicians and commentators say.

At the headquarters of her National Front (FN) party in Nanterre outside Gay Paree, officials believe the same forces that led to the Brexit vote in Britannia and Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
's victory in the United States could carry Le Pen to power.

Even some of her rivals concede a victory for the far-right firebrand
...firebrands are noted more for audio volume and the quantity of spittle generated than for any actual logic in their arguments...
is possible.

"I think Madame Le Pen could be elected," former conservative prime minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin said this month.

Another former premier, the Socialist Manuel Valls, has also warned of the "danger" of assuming that Le Pen cannot win.

Polls show that support for the 48-year-old anti-immigrant and anti-EU candidate has been consistent for four years now.

Since 2013, surveys have shown she will progress through the first round to reach the runoff stage in La Belle France's two-stage presidential election.

Pollsters now note that although Le Pen is not currently forecast to win the all-important showdown on May 7, she has whittled down the projected gap between herself and her main challengers.

JCCs, Jewish schools in US hit by fifth wave of bomb threats
[IsraelTimes] Jewish community centers in Alabama, North Carolina, New York, New Jersey, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Florida evacuated in latest scare; schools in Maryland and Virginia cleared out as well.

At least 17 Jewish community centers in the eastern and midwestern US were targeted with bomb threats Monday, the latest in a series of incidents that has raised fears of anti-Semitism in the country.

Threats were called in to JCCs in Asheville, North Carolina; Birmingham, Alabama; York and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; Tarrytown, Plainview and Staten Island, New York; Indianapolis, Indiana; Cherry Hill, New Jersey; Davie, Florida; Ann Arbor, Michigan; and Wilmington, Delaware.

Jewish day schools in Rockville, Maryland, and Fairfax, Virginia, both outside Washington, DC; and Davie, Florida, outside Miami, were also evacuated.

Parts of the Providence Road campus of the Shalom Park non-profit Jewish organization in Charlotte, North Carolina, were also partly evacuated, The Charlotte Observer reported; the Jewish Federation of South Jersey in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, was also cleared .

In total, at least 17 Jewish institutions were targeted.

Those inside the buildings were evacuated and law enforcement was called in to investigate the threats. All clears were given in a number of cases.

The director of the Birmingham JCC, which has been targeted three times in the past two months, told local media the threats were "very difficult, very challenging, very fearful."

Several of the JCCs targeted were near Philadelphia, where a day earlier a Jewish cemetery was found vandalized, with some 100 headstones damaged or knocked over after a Jewish cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri, was targeted the previous week.

Paul Goldenberg, director of the Secure Community Network, told JTA shortly after reports of the bomb threats began coming in that his organization was working closely with the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI to identify the perpetrators and stop the threats.
Well, guys? You know what time the calls came in and what numbers were called...
SCN is an affiliate of the Jewish Federations of North America that advises Jewish groups and institutions on security. SCN also is working closely with the Anti-Defamation League, Goldenberg said.

No actual bombs have been found at any of the dozens of institutions that have received bomb threats in recent weeks.

"The goal of these people is to wear us down," Goldenberg said. "But we are back in our schools, we are back in our JCCs."

Muslim crowdfunding activists enlist to help 2nd vandalized Jewish cemetery

Tarek El-Medissi (and BDS activist Linda Sarsour), whose campaign has raised over $135K for St. Louis graveyard, says he will divert funds to Philadelphia as well.

#1  Part of an email my mother received a few days ago from the Buffalo Jewish Federation, following the previous wave of phone calls:

The Jewish Community across the United States and in Canada has recently been plagued by bomb threats to 59 Jewish Community Centers since early January. Most recently, Buffalo's Benderson JCC building was the target of such a threat this past week. None of the threats were carried out. No one in any of the buildings was hurt or injured.

Following this week's events, The JCC and Federation received an outpouring of messages of solidarity from friends in our community, most notably from Dr. Stan Bratton and the board of the Network of Religious Communities, and from Dr. Khalid Qazi of Muslim Public Affairs Council of WNY.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced new actions to combat hate crimes and anti-Semitism across New York State after meeting with some 50 Jewish community and interfaith leaders at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in Manhattan Thursday. The measures include a $25 million grant program for additional security training needs, cameras, and other related needs to boost safety and security at religious schools and daycare centers. The state will also expand its toll-free hotline to include text message capability to report incidents of bias and discrimination.

It should be noted that the Muslim Public Affairs Council of WNY [western New York] most assuredly includes the various congregations in Lackawanna, which once upon a time provided us with the Lackawanna Six and whose members have demanded and received special prayer times and prayer rooms for the children of their faith in the public schools of the city, among other accommodations. They are learning that certain public postures and behaviours are required here in Dar al Harb... though I do wonder how much of the more than a million dollars Mr. El-Medissi and Ms Sarsour will disburse for the repair of Jewish cemeteries, and what will become of the rest.

Iraq to Fight ISIL in Syria in Case Homeland Threatened: Foreign Minister
[ENGLISH.ALMANAR.LB] The Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari stated on Monday that his country intends to fight ISIS in Syria on the basis of protecting the Iraqi territories from the threats of the terrorist group, not interfering in the Syrian affairs.

Al-Jaafari told the Russian news agency that the Iraq forces will strike the forces of Evil within the Syrian territories in case they pose an extended threat against the Iraqi territories.

Iraq’s air force struck ISIS targets in Syria border towns of Boukamal and Husseibah, strikes that came in response to recent bombings in Baghdad claimed by ISIS and linked to the bully boys’ operations in Syria.

$400bn F-35 can only hit 'stationary or slow moving objects'
New report reveals as military bosses claim fighter jet could battle ISIS in the Middle East 'in a few years'
If all goes as planned, there will be no ISIS in the Middle East in a few years. But no doubt other foes will present themselves.
The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter has been hailed as the 'most expensive weapon in history', costing $400bn. However, according to Aviation Week, the plane's laser targeting system has one slight flaw - it can only target stationary or slow moving objects.
Fortunately for us, ISIS doesn't move that fast...
'Despite being among the most technologically advanced low-observable warplanes on the planet, the Lockheed Martin F-35 has one significant shortcoming,' it wrote.

'The Joint Strike Fighter cannot strike moving ground targets using the targeting system and weapons loadout delivered in its final combat Lightning II configuration, Block 3F.'

The jet has gone through dozens of updates to its software, with the Block 3F being the most recent.

#8  No surprise, as I mentioned before, the "killer turkey" can only achieve its kills by shooting a barrel of fish.

Even then, the fish has to remain still, if the fishes move around, their survival rate goes up.

#9  C'mon guys it can't be Basic. Basic is easy to debug especially for the RT-!! system they're probably using.

C is a possibility since that can be written in a way that it is unintelligeble to anyone at all. BUT...............

It's the DoD, that means it was written in ADA!!!

#10  That's not such a bad thing. Its primary mission today is to strike Chinese or Russian radar stations, AA installations and missile silos. Once that's accomplished, its secondary mission is to destroy their air forces. After that, B-52s, B-1's, F-15's and F-16's and drones can be deployed to conduct strike missions/turkey shoots against mobile ground targets. Its primary mission is to break down the door using its stealth capability, not serve as a bomb truck.

However, the article is likely to be complete garbage. Project on Government Oversight, the article's source, is a liberal organization. The modus operandi is to shade, distort or omit information. Here's something from the past about POGO's funding:

CREDO, which used to be called Working Assets, funds its activities by providing mobile phone and data plans that compete with AT&T and Verizon via its network operator, Sprint Corp. Users can direct a portion of their fees toward liberal political causes. "We are using the revenue from our customers’ mobile phone bills to keep the pressure on White," a CREDO spokesman said. In June, CREDO customers gave $87,503 to the Project on Government Oversight, a tax-exempt watchdog group that has criticized White and also called for Obama to replace her.

#11  A blog comment on POGO's background:
POGO is just another anti-defense liberal group, composed of anti-defense liberal political hacks whose sole agenda is to deeply cut, and gut, America’s defense. The vast majority of the programs they call “waste” are actually needed military capabilities and weapon systems crucial to ensuring America’s national security and winning the wars of the future. Furthermore, in their drive to gut defense, they’ve buddied up with some of the most leftist groups in the country, including Code Pink and “Just Foreign Policy”[2], some of which are funded by George Soros.

POGO’s goal is not to eliminate “waste”. Their sole goal is to gut America’s defense.
Fifth generation systems like the F-35 do things that are qualitatively different from the existing fleet of F-15's, F-16's and F-18's. They enter highly contested airspace (i.e. China's or Russia's) crammed with sophisticated enemy air assets and air defenses, and hammer key stationary assets like radar stations, air bases or missile silos. In an all-out war situation, their survivability, due to stealth, will reduce our body count at home from city-busting Chinese or Russian nuclear ICBM's.

#14  you would be surprised at how many large scale software development groups have no understanding of software Quality Assurance processes. Actually good many do, it's just that proper QA gets in the way, if you know what I mean. The calendar sez 'ship it, so it ships

#16  They started this mess the right way with a fly before you buy competition.

Then they took a good airframe with all of the right capabilities and tried to make a flying iPhone out of it. They've crammed everything but iTunes and Netflicks into the software and wasted a zillion dollars with that tail wagging the dog logistics program which has taken most of the attention while the fighting capabilities of the Killer Turkey have been neglected.

A good Program Manager could fix this by telling the technogeeks to sit down and shut up and start crafting a software package that is based upon pilot input and effective weapons delivery.

#18  The issue means the aircraft is limited to striking fixed or slow-moving objects such as surface-to-air missiles.

When I stopped reading.

#19  Wiki excerpt: The two most common propulsion systems for air-to-surface missiles are rocket motors, usually with shorter range, and slower, longer-range jet engines. Some Soviet-designed air-to-surface missiles are powered by ramjets, giving them both long range and high speed.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Assad regime working with Daesh, says Syrian opposition
[AA.TR] The Syrian regime has been setting up a buffer zone between ISIS and the The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
-backed Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
(FSA), the head of the country’s opposition delegation at the Geneva IV talks said on Monday.

On the fifth day of the fourth round of the intra-Syrian talks, UN Syria envoy Staffan de Mistura met the Syrian opposition delegation headed by Nasr Hariri, a senior member of the largest anti-regime group, the Syrian National Coalition.

"The regime is actually coordinating with ISIS and has opened a corridor to prevent the Free Syrian Army from fighting ISIS," Hariri told a news conference at the UN at Geneva following a two-hour meeting with de Mistura.

Claiming the regime did not want the FSA to defeat the terror group, Hariri said: "This regime is setting up a buffer zone between the FSA and ISIS."

"We just gave the special envoy a video of testimony of a former detainee who was detained by the FSA and was recently released. In the video, he explains and testifies how regime forces are coordinating with ISIS," Hariri said.

ISIS CANNIBALS: Terror group are teaching their fighters to EAT non-Muslims
  • [Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News] Handbook found in an Islamic State training school was found by a think tank

  • It revealed a horrifying new stance taken by jihadis which promotes cannibalism

  • Pamphlets give advice on what parts of the body to eat and how to prepare them

  • A mother was reportedly fed the remains of her own son by sick ISIS terrorists
Allah commands them to eat the hearts of infidels to stave off heart attacks, to eat their brains to make them smart, their pee-pees to make them virile. I'm not sure why they're supposed to eat their butt cheeks...
Ooooohhh prions! How long until their brains turn to mush and start dribbling out their ears?

Government
Trump to call for $54B budget hike in defense spending
[AA.TR] President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
will call for an increase of $54 billion in defense spending as part of his budget proposals for 2018, according to the White House on Monday.

Later, the president also said his government would fix the "horrible effects of Obamacare
... aka the Affordable Care Act, an ineptly designed and worse executed piece of legislation designed to bring 17 percent of the U.S. economy under the direct control of the government. The previous iteration, known as Hillarycare, was laughed out of Washington. This stinker was passed on a party-line vote without being read...
" after he met executives from health insurance companies.

"The finances of our country are in a mess," Trump told news hounds at the White House. "Billions and billions of dollars will be saved," through the upcoming budget he said, noting that the U.S. national debt has doubled over the last eight years.

An approximately nine-percent increase in defense spending, from some $600 billion last year, would fulfill Trump's election campaign promise of making "one of the greatest buildups in history" for the U.S. military.

This year’s new budget would focus on "military, safety, economic development," Trump said.

The government, meanwhile, would be expected to cut spending in other areas.

The Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of State, as well as foreign aid and some domestic programs, are anticipated to bear the brunt of cutbacks.

"I want the American people to know that the budget will reflect their priorities ... no more wasted money. We are going to be spending money in a very, very careful manner ... we must do a lot more with less," Trump said.

#4  What's the EPA budget?

About 99% too much.

Folks are worried that $54B isn't enough, but it should be fine if we get the corruption and inefficiencies under control.
