When the paper roll is empty: Korans found in toilets at University of Texas at Dallas
[BBC] Police are trying to identify one of six people seen entering the toilet on the evening of the incident, 28 March.

A reflection room where multi-faith prayer books are kept on the building's ground floor was not touched, according to investigators.

Police Chief Larry Zacharias told the Dallas Morning News: "No one knows who owns the books, so that makes it difficult."
In summary: someone -- probably one of the six seen entering the bathroom that night -- dropped his own books in the toilet. Sadly, the odds are above 50% that it was a Muslim who dunnit, but until the culprit is found the mainstream news media and Muslim organizations will get all the mileage they can from the incident.

Afghanistan
Afghan Ulemas once again slam Pakistan’s Maulana Fazal for his remarks
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Afghan Ulemas once again slammed the Pak politician and religious figure Maulana Fazl ur-Rehman for his controversial remarks regarding Afghanistan, emphasizing that he is not having a religious and academic status.

Speaking during a presser in Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
, the Afghan Ulemas said Maulana Fazal has always changed his stances similar as a cheap politician for his own interests.

They said Maulana Fazal encourages the Pak Taliban to political negotiations but encourages the Afghan Taliban to Jihad, holy war.

According to the Ulemas, Pakistain has received billions from the United States to eliminate the Lion of Islam groups fighting under the umbrella of Jihad but Maulana Fazal endorses Jihad in Afghanistan, raising questions regarding his justifications and asking why he is not declaring Jihad in Pakistain if remaining an ally of the United States is not justified as per the Islamic teachings.

This comes as Maulana Fazal had earlier said that the peace would not be achievable in Afghanistan as long as the foreign forces have a presence in the country.

Fazal is a pro-Taliban Pak political leader who had endorsed the Taliban extremism in Afghanistan, calling it a legitimate war against the foreign forces.

The remarks by Fazal-ur-Rehman earlier in 2015 followed after a meeting with President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
who visited Pakistain on a two-day state visit shortly after taking office as the new President of Afghanistan.

EU consider death penalty in Puntland ‘inhuman’
[SHABELLENEWS] The EU Delegation regrets the execution of five suspected Al-Shabaab
... the personification of Somali state failure...
members by the Puntland
...a region in northeastern Somalia, centered on Garowe in the Nugaal province. Its leaders declared the territory an autonomous state in 1998. authorities on Saturday 8th April 2017.

While the EU condemns in the strongest terms all acts of terror and supports the application of robust sentences that follow due process, the EU also opposes on principle the death penalty in all circumstances.

The European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
considers the death penalty to be a cruel and inhuman punishment, which fails to provide deterrence to criminal behaviour and represents an unacceptable denial of human dignity and integrity.

Any miscarriage of justice ‐ which can occur in any legal system ‐ is irreversible. The EU also notes with growing concern the recurrent use of military courts in Somalia.

The EU Delegation calls upon the authorities of Puntland and the Federal Government of Somalia to instate a moratorium on the death penalty and to ensure that civilians are tried before civilian courts.

The EU is committed to strengthening the Somali judicial system and the promotion of rule of law and justice for the Somali citizens.

We look forward to supporting the Somali authorities in adopting legislation to abolish the use of the death penalty.

Diarrhoea kills 28 in Somalia in 10 days, says Red Cross
[SHABELLENEWS] The International Federation of Red Thingy and Red Islamic Thingy (IFRC) warned Wednesday of a health crisis in Somaliland after 28 people died of acute diarrhoea in the past 10 days.

More than 411 cases, believed to be caused by cholera, have been reported since the start of the month with 167 people hospitalised in the drought-ravaged region of northern Somalia.

"This outbreak is frightening, as the people of Somaliland are already weakened by the drought and by lack of food," said Abdirasaq Ali Duran, a Somali Red Islamic Thingy Society official based in the town of Buhdole near the border with Æthiopia.

Many of those affected were herdsmen who live in remote areas, the statement said.

"Drought doesn’t just cause thirst, hunger and death--it causes diseases like acute diarrhoea, because people are so desperate for water that they’ll drink from heavily contaminated streams or puddles," said Duran.

Somaliland declared independence from Somalia after the Horn of Africa nation’s central government collapsed in 1991, but it remains unrecognised by the international community.

Nearby Puntland
...a region in northeastern Somalia, centered on Garowe in the Nugaal province. Its leaders declared the territory an autonomous state in 1998. Puntland and the equally autonomous Somaliland seem to have avoided the clan rivalries and warlordism that have typified the rest of Somalia, which puts both places high on the list for Islamic subversion...
, a semi-autonomous region of Somalia, has also been hit by the outbreak, recording more than 1,600 cases of cholera and 57 deaths since the start of the year, according to the IFRC.

The Horn of Africa region including parts of Æthiopia and Kenya are suffering from drought, and Somalia’s president warned last month that his country could slip into its third famine in 25 years if the international community did not send more aid.

Africa Subsaharan
Rise in Boko Haram Child Suicide Bombers 'Alarming', Says UNICEF
[AnNahar] An "alarming" number of children, most of them girls, have been used by Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
as jacket wallahs in the first months of 2017, UNICEF said Wednesday.

The Islamists have increasingly been using children to attack crowded markets, mosques and camps for internally displaced people in northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
and the broader Lake Chad region.

Experts said the number of children used in suicide kabooms by Boko Haram surged to 27 in the first quarter of this year, compared to nine over the same period in 2016.

Since 2014, 117 children -- the "vast majority" of them girls -- have been used to carry out attacks in public places across Nigeria, Chad, Niger and Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
, said the report by the United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
children's agency UNICEF.

Four children were used to carry out kabooms in 2014, 56 in 2015, 30 in 2016 and 27 in the first three months of 2017, reported UNICEF.

"The increase reflects an alarming tactic by the Lion of Islams," said the report.

"This is the worst possible use of children in conflict," said Marie-Pierre Poirier, UNICEF's regional director for West and Central Africa.

In a separate statement, UNICEF said it was concerned that children were being held by the Nigerian military for alleged association with Boko Haram myrmidons.

"They are held in military barracks, separated from their parents, without medical follow-up, without psychological support, without education, under conditions and for durations that are unknown", said Patrick Rose, a UNICEF regional coordinator.

Last year, Amnesia Amnesty International warned in a May report that children were dying in the Giwa barracks detention center in Maiduguri, northeast Nigeria.

"Babies and young children have died in appalling conditions in military detention," said the rights organization.

On Monday, the Nigerian army released nearly 600 children, women and elderly from Giwa barracks described as a "major step" by aid agencies toward the protection and reintegration of the children back into society.

Boko Haram has been largely weakened since Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari came into power in 2015, but the Lake Chad region remains unstable with some areas still completely inaccessible.

Europe
Is Dortmund attacker still on the run? Police admit they have no evidence linking sole suspect to bus bombing but claim he WAS an ISIS commander
[DailyMail] German police have admitted they have no evidence linking the sole suspect in the Borussia Dortmund football team bus bombing with the attack - but believe he was an ISIS commander while in his home country of Iraq.

A 26-year-old Iraqi, identified only as Abdul Baset al-O, was placed in durance vile
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
yesterday in connection with the attack.

Chilling 'confession' letters found close to the scene of Tuesday's bombing, which injured Spanish international Marc Bartra, blamed German involvement in Syria - but made no mention of support for ISIS.

Now prosecutors have cast doubt over whether the suspect was responsible, meaning the real terrorist could still be on the lam.

However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...
they have detained him over allegations he led a terror cell of 10 fighters in Iraq, which aimed to 'prepare kidnappings, abductions, extortion and killings'. A German judge on Thursday approved an arrest warrant against him, the Federal Prosecutor's Office said in a statement.

The letters warned Angela Merkel
...current chancellor of Germany and the impetus behind Germany's remarkably ill-starred immigration program. Merkel used to be referred to by Germans as Mom...
to withdraw troops from Syria, it has emerged. Three 15 line 'confessions', written in German, were found near the scene, addressed the German Chancellor, with one stating: 'Your Tornadoes are still flying over the land of the Caliphate to murder Moslems.'
ISIS operatives do not usually claim responsibility in this way, and the terror group was not referenced in the letters.

Prosecutors said today that the arrested man crossed the border from Iraq into The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
in March 2015 and continued on in early 2016 to Germany 'where the suspect maintained contact with Isis members'.

It is the first time such confession letters have been left. Terror expert Peter Neumann, from King's College, London, told Bild: 'Three identical confessions were found at the scene of the crime. This has never happened before in Islamist attacks.'

Abdul Baset al-O was seized in the city of Wuppertal. Media reports said he had been on the radar of police and intelligence agencies for some time after intercepted telephone calls alerted authorities to his Jihadist leanings. It was suspected he had explosives or bomb parts in his apartment but nothing was found.

A second suspect is a 28-year-old German with Lebanese roots, named as Abdullah al-Z, who comes from the town of Fröndenberg.

His home was searched after a domestic spat involving his parents resulted in police being called. Once there they discovered an umbrella from the hotel where the Borussia Dortmund team had been quartered before the kaboom. But he was questioned and released and it is unclear what further role he may play in the investigation.

Puzzling to authorities is the technical know how that was required to build the three sophisticated pipe bombs used in the attack that spewed shrapnel over a 300 feet radius. The attacker or attackers knew how to detonate the devices at the exact time the bus was passing - and placed them out of view of the hotel's CCTV cameras. Experts said they could have been detonated with a phone or an electric garage door opener.

  • Their fake guns were 'deceptively real-looking', Dortmund police said

  • Police said onlookers were concerned that some of the men had 'longer beards'

  • It came just a day after a bomb the Borussia Dortmund football team's bus

Dortmund's Bartra faces month out after bus bomb attack

[AlAhram] Borussia Dortmund's Spanish international defender Marc Bartra will be out for around four weeks after injuring his wrist in Tuesday's kaboom on the team's bus, coach Thomas Tuchel said.

"Marc would prefer to play again on Saturday, but he will need around four weeks," said Tuchel, whose side entertain Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

Bartra, 26, underwent emergency surgery for a broken radius bone and to remove glass that became planted in his arm after the blasts shattered windows on the team's bus.

On Wednesday he said on Twitter that he was "doing much better" but he played no part in Dortmund's 3-2 defeat at home to Monaco in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

Prosecutor seeks 15 years in jail for former prosecutor of MIT trucks case
[Hurriyet Daily News] The Ankara Chief Prosecutor’s Office on April 13 demanded 15 years in jail for the former prosecutor of a controversial National Intelligence Agency (MIT) trucks case on charges of "membership to a terrorist organization," state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.

The indictment into the prosecutor, Aziz Takci, was prepared by Prosecutor Veyzi Kacmaz and delivered to the 18th Ankara Penal Court.

The indictment demanded 7.5 years to 15 years in jail for the prosecutor of being a member of the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization/Parallel State Structure (FETÖ/PDY).

Takci was also accused of revealing state secrets.

Last year, a crisis erupted after MIT trucks bound for Syria were stopped and searched by authorities on Jan. 1, 2014. The trucks were allegedly carrying weapons and ammunition to hard boyz fighting in Syria.

Meanwhile,
...back at the Council of Boskone, Helmuth had turned a paler shade of blue. Star-A-Star had struck again...
Takci was also accused of using ByLock, an encrypted messaging application that is said to have been used by members of FETÖ.

The Supreme Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK), the top judiciary body in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, on Jan. 14 dismissed Takci as well as prosecutors Suleyman Bagriyanik, Ahmet Karaca, Özcan Sisman and Yasar Kavalciklioglu, who had ordered the MIT trucks to be stopped in southern Turkey.

HSYK stated the prosecutors had committed acts that violated the dignity and honor of their profession as well as the reputation of a public officer.

In January 2014, Hatay Police Department Counter-terrorism and Organized Crime unit officers stopped a truck which had embarked from the southern town of Reyhanli, a district in Hatay province that borders Syria, on a tipoff that it was carrying arms to Syria. The truck was stopped near a gendarmerie outpost on the Reyhanli ‐ Kirikhan road. The driver and two other men in the truck did not allow the police to conduct a search of the cargo as the venue was beyond the police’s area of authority.

If Erdogan proves coup night claim, I’ll resign: Main opposition CHP leader
[Hurriyet Daily News] Main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu has said he is ready to quit politics if President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First

... a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania whom the current govt of Turkey considers responsible for all the ills afflicting Turkey and possibly the entire world...
Erdogan on April 10 accused Kilicdaroglu of being in contact with coup plotters on the night of the thwarted coup, adding that he would not have invited Kilicdaroglu to the "unity rally" in Istanbul’s Yenikapi on Aug. 7 in the aftermath of the coup attempt if he had known about the CHP’s "agreement with coup plotters."

Istanbul municipality worker suspended after calling wives, daughters of naysayers ‘halal’ as ‘spoils of war’
[Hurriyet Daily News] An employee with Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality was suspended from duty on April 13 after sharing a post on social media saying that the wives and daughters of naysayers in the charter referendum were "halal" for "yes" voters as "spoils of war."

Ömer A., who works in the Vegetable Market Directorate, shared the controversial post on his Facebook account, informing "yes" voters that women from the "no" side could be claimed by them as "spoils of war" in the event of victory in the April 16 referendum.

"Dear friends, CHP [Republican People’s Party] is doing its best on the issue [referendum] by overtly declaring war. They have displayed the aggression that they began in parliament toward yea-sayers with all their actions and rhetoric. The wives and daughters of those people are halal for the ’yes’ voters as spoils of war when we win the battle on April 17," the post read.

The municipality later suspended Ömer A. from his duty and launched an administrative investigation.

US charges 2 Palestinian terrorists for 2010 murder of American tourist in Israel
Erasing yet another Obama legacy.
[IsraelTimes] Arrest warrants issued for Paleostinian stabbers, currently tossed in the calaboose in Israel, who killed Kristine Luken and seriously maimed another.

Charges were filed in the United States Thursday against two Paleostinian Death Eaters tossed in the calaboose
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
in Israel for the 2010 murder of a US citizen who was visiting the Jewish state.

Ayad Fatafta and Kifah Ghanimat
...the ringleader of a criminal gang in the Jerusalem-area city of Beit Shemesh that since 1997 had been involved in the usual murder, robbery, rape, etc. But in 2010 they turned serious, vowing to avenge the killing of Hamas Number 3 Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in Dubai, widely believed to have been done by Mossad. So they all ended up in jail, many not for the first time...
face federal charges for murdering Kristine Luken on December 18, 2010, in a stabbing attack in the Jerusalem Forest that also seriously maimed Kay Wilson, a UK citizen who lives in Israel.

The two terrorists, both residents of Bethlehem -- which is under the control of the Paleostinian Authority -- are currently serving prison sentences in Israel. Arrest warrants were issued against them in the US on Thursday.

In 2012, Fatafta was sentenced to life imprisonment plus 20 years, and Ghanimat was sentenced to two terms of life imprisonment and a further 60 years, for the lethal stabbing attack as well as another crime.

According to the US affidavit, Fatafta and Ghanimat stabbed Luken -- a 44-year-old US national -- to death while she was hiking near an archaeological site on a visit to Israel. She died at the scene.

According to the US Justice Department, "the maximum penalty for a person convicted of murdering a US national outside the US is a lifetime term of incarceration or death."

Wilson described her injuries in a Times of Israel blog post.

"I sustained 13 machete wounds in my lungs and diaphragm, six compound fractures in my ribs, 30 additional fractures, a dislocated shoulder, a crushed sternum and a broken shoulder blade," she wrote.

Upon receiving the news of the charges against the two terrorists, Wilson posted on Facebook that it was "the best news I’ve had in six years."

She described the emotional nature of the arrest warrants, writing, "I’m so relieved, I’m near to tears."

European court rules against Russia over 2004 school siege
File under egregious fiddling while Rome burns.
[Ynet] Russia said Thursday it would appeal a European Court of Human Rights ruling that Moscow failed to adequately protect victims of a 2004 school siege in the city of Beslan that left more than 300 people dead.

The La Belle France-based court said authorities did not take necessary preventive measures to save lives. It said the security forces' use of tank cannon, grenade launchers and flame-throwers contributed to casualties among the hostages. It also noted failures to increase security before the attack despite imminent threats against schools in the area.

Armed radical Islamic assailants seized the school on the first day of class, prompting a long standoff that ended in kabooms and gunfire two days later.

The court ordered that Russia pay nearly 3 million euros ($3.2 million) in total compensation to the 409 Russians who brought the case to the ECHR; they include people who were taken hostage, or injured or are relatives of the hostages or those killed and injured.

Beslan was doomed to a bad outcome from the moment it started. These were jihadis intent on massacre, not petty criminals you might negotiate with.

Yeah, there is an argument the Russians could have done more before hand, but it would mean going all Genghis Khan in the 'stans, which would have the ECHR bugwits in a tizzy over that.

PA suspends ties with UNRWA over planned curriculum reform
Sufficient unto the day the evil thereof. After all, they already have all the textbooks and classroom maps they need for the current school year. And -- Inshallah -- perhaps by next autumn President Trump will change his mind about Israel.
[IsraelTimes] Proposed changes to textbooks by UN agency, welcomed by Israel, reportedly include revised maps, a ’balanced representation of Jerusalem,’ and excision of messages seen as incitement.

The Paleostinian Authority Education Ministry on Thursday announced it was suspending ties with the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) over plans by the international agency to reform its curriculum.

The Paleostinian ministry, in a statement published on its official website, called the possible revisions to the curriculum an "affront to the Paleostinian people, its history and struggles," and said the suspension would continue until the UN agency’s "positions are corrected."

UNRWA has over 312,000 students in its schools across the West Bank and East Jerusalem (together, 50,000) and the Gazoo Strip (262,000).

The UN agency has not formally published any plans to alter its curriculum, but leaks to the Arab press of possible changes have led to outrage over recent weeks in Gazoo and the West Bank.

The changes, according to Arab media reports, include revisions to maps of Paleostine to exclude references to cities inside Israel as Paleostinian cities, a practice that numerous studies of Paleostinian textbooks have labeled as "incitement." Other changes were reportedly planned to tone down praise for Paleostinian prisoners and improve Israel’s image.

According to a March report by COGAT, the Israeli Defense Ministry agency responsible for civilian affairs in the West Bank and Gazoo, part of the reform to the UNRWA curriculum "is a balanced representation of Jerusalem as having religious significance to the three major monotheistic religions (Islam, Christianity, and Judaism), and mentioning that Moslem believers have access to the holy sites."

"UNRWA additionally sought to amend textbooks in cases where the content showed gender bias, lacked objectivity, and incited violence against Israel," COGAT added.

The Israeli government, US State Department, and independent organizations have for many years accused the Paleostinian education system, including UNRWA schools, of educating Paleostinian children to hate Israel and support violence.

COGAT praised the proposed changes as an effort "to create a balanced, positive curriculum with universal values free from violence and incitement."

A representative of the Paleostinian Authority Education Ministry refused to speak with The Times of Israel.

"Any distortion of the Paleostinian curriculum is a flagrant violation of the laws of the host country, and any change to any letter to appease any party is a betrayal of the Paleostinian narrative and the right of the Paleostinian people under occupation to preserve its identity and struggle," the PA ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

Chris Gunness, the spokesperson for UNRWA, wrote in a statement to The Times of Israel that the UN agency "has worked with the PA for years and has a long track record as a partner teaching children in a highly complex environment."

"UNRWA schools follow the curriculum of the host authority, a practice agreed in 1954 with the support of UNESCO and reaffirmed following the Oslo Accords. It is UNRWA policy to review and where appropriate enrich the official PA textbooks, curricula and other learning materials used in UNRWA schools to ensure compliance with UN values and principles," the statement added.

A report published earlier this month by the Institute for Monitoring Peace and Cultural Tolerance in School Education (IMPACT-se), said that the 2016-2017 elementary school curriculum in the PA "teaches students to be deaders, demonizes and denies the existence of Israel, and focuses on a ’return’ to an exclusively Paleostinian homeland."

The Israeli government has long argued that incitement in Paleostinian textbooks is a main contributor to terrorism against Israelis. The issue has taken on increasing significance of late, as members of the United States Congress have threatened to decrease aid to Paleostinians if incitement is not curbed.

Hezbollah recovers body of fallen commander killed 2 years ago in Syria’s Idlib
[ALMASDARNEWS] The body of a senior Hezbollah commander who was killed in Syria two years ago has been retrieved as per an agreement between the Syrian government and rebel groups.

Jamil al-Faqih, commander of the military operations of Hezbollah in al-Fu’ah and Kafriyah towns (located to the north and northeast of Idlib) was killed fighting jihadi groups in July 2015.

An agreement has been recently concluded between the Syrian government and rebel forces in which both sides pledged to release detainees and hand over bodies of killed fighters.

Detroit: Iraqi ex-con, veteran, Christian, fears for life if deported
[DetroitNews] After spending 33 years, six months and 21 days in prison, Mahid Shaou faces another debt some say is too steep: Deportation back to Iraq, a country where he knows no one, doesn’t speak the language and fears being killed by Islamic State militants because he is Christian.

Shaou is among hundreds of local Iraqi Christians facing deportation in the wake of the Trump administration’s crackdown on undocumented immigrants. Activists call the looming deportations an “egregious human rights violation” because of the genocide against Iraqi Christians by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

After Shaou was paroled from prison six months ago for robbing a restaurant and wounding a police officer, he was never freed -- he immediately was transferred into federal custody. This week, immigration officials moved Shaou to a detention facility in Louisiana, where he’s been told he will be deported any day to Iraq.
I imagine the Kurds would be delighted to have him...

#1  BYE!
Shaou told the workers that if they had no idea what it is like to be taken advantage of, he would show them. He pulled out his gun and told them to give him the money from the register.

The employees gave him money and Shaou said he remembers walking outside. But as he was pulling out of the McDonald’s parking lot, he was stopped by a police car.

He claims he doesn’t recall police lights on the car, and all he remembers seeing was a uniform and a weapon – not the person’s face. But it was a police officer.

Shaou — who claims he blacked out during parts of the incident — grabbed his gun and shot at the officer’s upper arm. As the officer spun around from the velocity of the bullet, Shaou shot again, hitting his shoulder.

#2  Shaou said he tried to become a citizen when he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1980 at age 17.

He could have naturalized at the age of 18, with or without enlistment. Trump should cut this guy a break. Democrats defend their felons. We should defend ours.

#3  It appears that he committed at least two separate armed robberies on two successive dates in February 1983: http://mdocweb.state.mi.us/OTIS2/otis2profile.aspx?mdocNumber=173835

I have mixed feelings here. I assume that he was honorably discharged from the Army. He served his sentence, and was released - so he presumably paid his debt to society.

I guess I support his deportation, as long as every Arab refugee who is WORSE than this guy gets booted as well.

#4  From the change.org petition referenced in the article:

His father died while he was overseas in Korea. When Nahidh returned to America for his father's funeral, he suffered from depression, guilt, anxiety and PTSD. He received an honorable discharge and returned back to Michigan to take care of his mother and siblings. His mother was then diagnosed with cancer in her early 40's and Nahidh stuggled to provide for the family.

It is not clear to me why the gentleman would be suffering from PTSD after serving in Korea about 35 years ago. It is clear to me why a young man feeling the weight of care for his family might be a bit edgy after the death of one parent and facing the expensive care and possible death of the other parent.
