These states have banned sanctuary cities

#1  Banning sanctuary cities, a policy who's time is long overdue. I hope the law includes high schools that claim to be sanctuary schools. So many of these lefty cities are hard-strapped for money; threats of cutting off their money or firing school officials might bring them in line.

Afghanistan
Pakistan Asked To Stop ‘Supporting Terrorists’
[Tolo News] Dozens of residents and tribal elders from both sides of the Durand Line blamed Pakistain on Tuesday of supporting and training forces of Evil and stated that ISIS is also supported by some circles within Pakistain.

Speaking at a gathering in Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
they urged Pakistain to stop "supporting terrorists", saying ISIS was a serious threat to the region.

The residents vowed to cooperate with the Afghan cops in their efforts to eliminate bully boys.

"Pakistain is destroying our homes on the other side of the Durand Line. We are not terrorists. It is Pakistain that has turned ISIS into a big force on the two sides of the Durand Line," said Zarjan Shinwari, head of a tribal council on the Pakistain side of the Durand Line.

The participants at the gathering said Pak military in plain clothes come into the tribal belt areas and intimidate people.

"We witnessed many things. Many were killed and this process continues. But we cannot talk anymore and we cannot say what we want," said Hayat Massoud, a tribal elder from Wazoo.

"We organize meetings in Islamabad as well. We take action against terrorism there [in Islamabad] as well," said Hukum Khan, a tribal elder from Khyber Agency
... the place to go if you've got an Indiana Jones hat and whip. Chock full of high adventure and treacherous Pathans. You should really train up to it, though...
Meanwhile,
...back at the pound, the little lost dog backed into the corner and showed its teeth. And what big teeth they were!...
residents along the Afghan side of the Durand Line criticized Pakistain’s incursions and said Islamabad should stop firing missiles at Afghanistan.

"Pakistain fires rockets onto this side of the Durand Line. By this, they want to evacuate houses along the Durand Line and then want to bring its military to those areas," said Jahanzib Mohmand, a tribal elder in Nangarhar.

"Pakistain should evacuate its forces from tribal areas and it should avoid extending the war. We can ensure the safety of our areas by our tribal agreements," said Khairuddin Seddiqi, a tribal elder.

The participants issued a resolution where they called on Pakistain to stop any move to build fences along the Durand Line.

The resolution also stipulated that the international community needs to help save people from terrorism along both sides of the Durand Line.

EU Accuses Taliban Of War Crimes, Calls For End To Violence
[Tolo News] The European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
(EU) has accused the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
of committing war crimes by killing innocent civilians and destroying towns, and called on the group to end the violence.

EU Special Representative to Afghanistan Franz-Michael Skjold Mellbin said that the killing of innocent civilians and the destruction of towns by the Taliban was no longer acceptable.

Mellbin rallied for a diplomatic solution to the ongoing turmoil in Afghanistan.

"The Taliban have committed war crimes, because of the targeting of the Afghan civilians. This of course it is a very sad fact. We continue the calls on the Taliban to stop their attacks against Afghan civilians," said Mellbin.

Mellbin made the remarks during the Europe Day celebrations in Kabul.

Besides efforts for peace on political fronts, there are also artists promoting peace in the country.

Attia is one such artist who started her drive for peace through art a year ago. She believes that the message of peace conveyed through art will one day occupy the hearts of bully boys.

"Every youth wants to live in peace. We call on the holy warriors not to disrupt our peaceful life," said Attia.

Meanwhile,
...back at the revival hall, the pastor had finally been wrestled from the pulpit.
Y'got the wrong guy! he yelled just before Sergeant Malone's billy club landed...

the EU envoy also hailed Hekmatyar for joining the grinding of the peace processor.

"Peace agreement with the Hizb-e-Islami was a positive step forward for Afghanistan. I think it sent a very important signal that peace is possible, but it also shows us that peace is difficult, it will not come easy. There are a lot of questions about what happened in the past, a lot of questions of what will happen now," added Mellbin.

But a number of Kabul residents have also called on the Taliban to stop the bloodshed and to join the grinding of the peace processor.

"How long should we witness war and violence? Come and join peace and do not make our children orphans and stop snatching the sons from their mothers," a resident of Kabul Roeena said.

Mellbin did however sound optimistic in that he thought peace was possible.

This latest call for peace comes after the Taliban launched its new spring offensive and ramped up attacks and battles across the country.

US officials recommend 3,000 to 5,000 more troops for Afghanistan
[Iran Press TV] US military officials and the State Department have recommended sending 3,000 to 5,000 additional troops, including hundreds of Special Operations forces, to Afghanistan, according to American media reports.

American officials said the US military needs a bigger role in Afghanistan to push the Taliban

The proposal has yet to be approved by US President Donald Trump

, but according to The New York Times

, Trump was close to signing off on the recommendation, which is the result of a broad review by the Pentagon, the State Department, intelligence community and other government agencies on the Afghan war.

#1  Is there an actual mission statement that defines the victory conditions? Bookending Iran with troops in Afghanistan and Iraq might even be a goal, but just kinetic pingpong with the Taliban seems insufficient. After 10+ years it's still mostly the 7th century there, with a lot of really well developed graft.

Bangladesh
Photo of another Bangladeshi al-Qaeda member released online
[Dhaka Tribune] According to al-Qaeda’s Bangla platform Dawahilallah, Abu Ibrahim alias Saiful Islam Hasan was killed in a US operation in Kandahar of Afghanistan in 2015

Al-Qaeda has published a photo of a Bangladeshi-origin leader who was killed while fighting for the bully boy group in Afghanistan.

The youth was identified as Abu Ibrahim in a post published recently on al-Qaeda’s Bangla platform Dawahilallah by a senior member.

According to the post, accessed early Tuesday, he was killed in a US operation in Kandahar, Afghanistan in 2015.

When asked by another user why the senior member, Abul Fida (organizational name), posted an old news in the forum, Fida said that he had learnt about the matter in a video released recently.

It is assumed that Abu Ibrahim is the organizational name of Saiful Islam Hasan.

His name first came up late last month when al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) released a statement announcing the death of Tariq alias Sohel, identified as the head of Bangladesh affairs.

It also said that Sohel’s aides who had "embraced martyrdom" with him were Abu Ibrahim alias Saiful Islam Hasan, Qari Abdul Aziz alias Abdul Halim, Yaqub alias Saddam Hossain, Asadullah alias Nazimuddin Maimoon and Abu Bakr alias Anuj Hasib.

Dhaka Tribune could not independently verify the identities.

The law enforcers too have not been able to give details of the persons named in the statement.

Swedish-Bangladeshi journalist Tasneem Khalil told the Dhaka Tribune that he believed Sohel was the handler of Bangladeshi affairs in Afghanistan, not the Bangladesh chief of AQIS.

Ashiqur Rahman Sulaiman was the first Bangladeshi to have been killed in Afghanistan fighting for al-Qaeda in recent years, he said. An al-Qaeda video from March 2015 described him as a martyr.

"Sohel and his lover companions were all members of the Bangladeshi markaz in Afghanistan," Tasneem said.

AQIS was formed in late 2014 with the declared intention of waging jihad in India, Pakistain, Bangladesh and Myanmar. It is headquartered in Pakistain.

Since January 2013, the group has taken credit for 13 attacks in which 11 were killed and four others sustained critical injuries. The last operation killed two LGBT rights activists in Dhaka on April 25, 2016.

Britain
Ahmadi Muslims face persecution from other Muslims in Wales
[BBC] Members of a Muslim sect in Cardiff [Wales] claim they are facing discrimination from other Muslims in the city.

Worshippers at the Ahmadiyya mosque in Canton said other Muslims had shunned them, with one claiming he was sacked from a restaurant and another that he was accosted for selling Islamic books.

Ahmadis have been declared non-Muslim in Pakistan because they do not believe Mohammed was the final prophet.

The Muslim Council of Wales (MCW) said it "abhorred" any type of persecution.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission confirmed it had "received correspondence" about the matter.

In a written statement, the MCW said: "Sunni and Shia Muslims do not recognise Mirza Gulam Ahmad as the Messiah... whereas the Ahmadiyya do.

"This forms a theological schism, and one which the majority of Sunni and Shia scholars consider to mean that Ahmadiyyas have moved beyond mainstream Islam.
Ahmadi spokesmen in the West go on TV every chance they get to tell us how tolerant Islam is.

Because we all wondered what's been happening with that little Uzbek swine.
[IsraelTimes] Prosecution also pursuing sentences ranging from 15 years to life for 52 of Uzbek Abdulkadir Masharipov’s accomplices.

Prosecutors in Istanbul are seeking 40 consecutive life sentences for the man who attacked a nightclub in Istanbul during New Year’s celebrations, killing 39 people, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. group had grabbed credit for the mass shootings at the upscale Reina nightclub.

Turkey’s Anadolu Agency said the Istanbul chief prosecutor’s office demanded in a 90-page indictment that Masharipov receive life sentences for each of the 39 victims and for attempting to overturn Turkey’s constitutional order. Masharipov, 34, also faces separate charges of membership in a terror group, the attempted murder of 79 people maimed in the attack and other alleged crimes, Anadolu said.

It is not unusual for Turkish prosecutors to demand multiple life sentences in cases of violence that result in victims.
The prosecutor’s indictment also seeks sentences of varying lengths -- ranging from life to maximum 15 years in prison -- for 52 alleged accomplices of Masharipov’s, the private Dogan news agency reported.

It is not unusual for Turkish prosecutors to demand multiple life sentences in cases of violence that result in victims.

A court in Istanbul needs to approve the indictment before a trial date may be set.

A lawyer appointed to represent Masharipov could not immediately be reached for comment.

Turkish media have quoted Masharipov as telling his interrogators that he had received orders to carry out a New Year’s Eve attack in Istanbul from Raqqa, the de facto capital of the IS group in Syria.

India-Pakistan
Govt urged to transfer Mashal case to military court
[DAWN] SWABI: The government was on Monday urged to transfer the lynching case of Mashal Khan, a student of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, to military court.

The demand was made by leaders of Qam Qalm, a literary body, and Mashal Forum, while speaking at a meeting here.

Hailing from Zaida area, Mashal Khan, a student of mass communication, was lynched on the varsity campus by a mob of students, university staffers and outsiders on alleged blasphemy charges on April 13.

They said Mashal was sent to the university by his poor parents to acquire higher education so he could bring prosperity to the family as well as the country, but their dreams were shattered. They lamented that Arif Khan Mardanvi, a former PTI councillor who was seen in the video warning a crowd not to disclose Mashal Khan’s killers, was yet to be tossed in the clink
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
Dr Mohammad Jasim, patron-in-chief of Qam Qalm, said leaders of political and religious parties, human right activists and social workers had demanded awarding exemplary punishment to Mashal’s killers.

"We have to shield our young generation from falling prey to the tricks of those who want to achieve their nefarious ends through these tactics," he said.

Tasawar Manerwal, president of Qam Qalm, said from the Mashal’s case they should learn a lesson that laws of the country must take their due course and the youth should not jump to conclusions without knowing the true nature of a situation.

Liaqat Yousafzai, Mashal Forum’s general secretary, said efforts had been underway to rename the University of Swabi as Mashal University Swabi.

Jan Bahadar, a member of Maneri Jirga, said it was vital to give exemplary punishment to those involved in Mashal’s killing for smooth running of the affairs of universities and other educational institutions.

APS Shuhada Forum seeks trial, punishment of former Taliban spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan
[DAWN] The APS Shuhada Forum on Tuesday filed a writ petition in the Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
High Court (PHC) seeking trial and sentencing of Ehsanullah Ehsan
...formerly the front man for the Pak Taliban, now the lips and tongue of the Jamaatul Ahrar splinter group in Mohmand Agency...
, former spokesperson of the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban
...Arabic for students...
Pakistain (TTP), for his involvement in the 2014 terrorist attack on Peshawar’s Army Public School (APS) which left 144 students and staff dead.

Shuhada Forum comprises family members of those killed in the bloodshed at the school. Its president, Fazal Khan, who is a lawyer and the main petitioner, accused Ehsan for carrying out the deadly attack, demanding the court to stop the government from granting clemency to the terrorist.

Khan named various parties as respondents in the writ, such as Government of Pakistain, Government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central...
, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Human Rights, Ministry of Law and Justice. Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, director general of Inter-Services Intelligence
...the Pak military intelligence agency that controls the military -- heads of ISI typically get promoted into the Chief of Army Staff position. It serves as a general command center for favored turban groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad, tries to influence the politix of neighboring countries, and carries out a (usually) low-level war against India in Kashmir...
and General Headquarters of Pakistain Army.

"The very next day of the APS attack, Ehsanullah Ehsan claimed the responsibility of the brutal attack and warned to carry more attacks in future," the petition read, adding, "The surrender or arrest of the main accused and criminal mastermind of the APS attack gives some hope that the men involved in the attack would be brought in to justice."

"But unfortunately, to the disappointment, the said Ehsanullah Ehsan is far from the aisles of justice," Khan said in the petition, saying the former TTP spokesperson is "being portrayed as an unaware, innocent and a brainwashed man" who had unknowingly planned the "slaughter in the APS attack and many other terror activities".

The forum's president in the writ petition also asked the PHC to direct the government to try Ehsan in a military court for "speedy justice".

The petitioner further added that under the Qisas (retribution) and Diyat (blood money) law, only the victim's heirs have the right to forgive the accused.

Therefore, the state has no legal authority to "forgive" Ehsan, the petition claimed.

Tehran's warning against spirit of Pak-Iran brotherly relations, FO tells envoy
[DAWN] The Foreign Office (FO) on Tuesday cautioned Tehran that a warning issued by the Iranian army chief a day earlier was against the "spirit of brotherly relations" between Pakistain and Iran.

The FO summoned Iranian Ambassador Mehdi Honardoost to convey Pakistain's concerns regarding a warning issued by Maj Gen Mohammad Baqeri that Tehran would hit 'militant safe havens' inside Pakistain if the government did not confront bandidos forces of Evil who carried out cross-border attacks last month.

"We expect Pak officials to control the borders, arrest the bully boyz and shut down their bases," Baqeri had said on Monday. "If the terrorist attacks continue, we will hit their safe havens and cells, wherever they are," he added.

During his meeting with the ambassador, FO Spokesperson Nafees Zakaria, highlighting an improvement in bilateral relations between the two countries, urged Iran to refrain from making statements that would harm relations, according to the statement.

Zakaria said an agreement had already been reached to "enhance cooperation on border issues" during the visit of Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif on May 3.

Zarif in his visit had asked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
to improve border security, and Pakistain had assured Iran it would deploy additional troops along its border.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran entitled to destroy terrorists’ hideout in Pakistan: commander
[Iran Press TV] A senior Iranian military commander says the country reserves the right to destroy the lairs of murderous Moslems in Pakistain following a recent terrorist crime against Iranian border guards serving on the country’s southeastern frontier.

"The Armed Forces of the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran condemn such measures and if the Pak government does not take serious measures, they (Iranian forces) reserve the absolute and legal right to resolutely counter and destroy the lairs of murderous Moslems however deep inside the neighboring country’s soil," Iranian Army’s Ground Forces Commander Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan said on Tuesday.

He added that Iranian Armed Forces would spare no efforts to safeguard the country’s security.

The commander said the terrorist attack near the town of Mirjaveh against the Iranian border guards, who were confident of Pakistain controlling its border areas based on the border protocols, lacked any operational value and was not regarded as a success but "indicated the weakness of Pakistain."

On April 26, 11 Iranian border guards were killed in festivities near Mirjaveh in the southeastern Iranian province of Sistan-and-Baluchestan. The so-called Jaish ul-Adl terrorist group grabbed credit for the attack, which was launched from the Pak soil. The assailants escaped into Pak territory immediately after the attack.

In a telephone conversation with Pak Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan
...Currently the Interior Minister of Pakistain. He is the senior leader of the Pak Moslem League (N) and a close aide to Nawaz Uncle Fester Sharif. He is noted for his vocal anti-American railing in the National Assembly. However (comma) Khan told the U.S. ambassador that he was in fact pro-American but he and the PML-N would have to be critical of US actions in order to remain publicly credible. Khan cited his wife and children's US citizenship as proof, which means he's lying to one side or the other and probably both. He wears a wig, but you probably guessed that. since hair doesn't grow naturally in that shape or texture...
on Monday, Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli called on Pakistain to take swift measures to improve security along its borders with Iran.

Rahmani Fazli said Islamabad should prevent the infiltration of murderous Moslems into Iran, smuggling of narcotics and illegal crossing into Iran by Afghan nationals from the Pak border.
