An isolated Pakistan not in Afghanistan’s favor, says President Ghani

The Afghanistan's Caped President made the remarks during a meeting with the local tribal elders of southern Kandahar province on Friday evening.

He said the Afghan government managed to establish friendly relations and cooperation with the regional and global countries and the relations and cooperation will continue to grow.

President Ghani further added that Afghanistan must reach to a peace agreement as a sovereign nation and government and the country must be encouraged to refrain from supporting the terrorist groups.

The remarks by President Ghani came as relations between Kabul and Islamabad witnessed at an all time low during the recent months, mainly due to recent festivities along the Durand Line and Kabul criticizing Pakistain for allowing the anti-government bad boy and terrorist groups to use its soil against Afghanistan.

The Afghan officials are saying that the leadership councils of the Taliban

Melania Trump skips headscarf as she arrives in Saudi Arabia

Under the kingdom's strict dress code for women, Saudi women and most female visitors are required to wear a loose, black robe, known as an abaya, in public. Most women in Saudi Arabia also cover their hair and face with a veil known as the niqab.

Issa, who also directs the defense ministry's new Ideological War Center and has a seat on the kingdom's Council of Senior Scholars, said Saudi Arabia had already begun initiatives to discredit and dismantle murderous Moslem websites.

The Ideological War Center, which launched operations last month, aims to correct what it calls "misguidance" about Islam through its channels on Facebook, Twitter and Youtube.

The kingdom's Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition has also established the world's biggest digital center to monitor ISIS and al-Qaeda activities online, said Issa.

He said the digital center had closed thousands of Death Eater websites.

I vote for genuine fear that President Trump is the monster depicted by our media, and therefore the stupid, vicious idiot must be soothed. Everyone (except for the majority of Americans who voted in most of the country) believes the media, which makes the repeated astonished comments after first meetings with the president about how closely he listened and the intelligence of his questions as the meeting went far longer than scheduled so fascinating.

Police stage operation on Turkish daily Sözcu
[Hurriyet Daily News] Police conducted an operation targeting an executive of critical daily Sözcu and a number of other staff members, the Istanbul Chief Public prosecutor stated on May 19, after detention warrants were issued for four of the newspaper’s staff members in the early hours of the morning.

Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Irfan Fidan told the Dogan News Agency that the operation only targeted executives of the daily, including its license holder Burak Akbay, and some other staff.

"[The operation] is about the executives of daily Sözcu. He [Akbay] is already a runaway and there is an arrest warrant for him. There are detentions and the investigation is ongoing," Fidan said.

"Proceedings are only being conducted against its manager and some staff members," he added.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office had issued detention warrants for Akbay, the online manager of Sözcu, Mediha Olgun, finance manager Yonca Kaleli, and Izmir news hound Gökmen Ulu. The four were reportedly being investigated over alleged links to the movement of U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gulen

Home Front: WoT
Abu Zubaidah won’t testify
[DAWN] The first CIA captive, who was locked away
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
in Pakistain 15 years ago and subjected to harsh interrogation, did not testify on Friday about conditions inside the Guantanamo Bay detention centre after a late-night discussion with his lawyers, who did not want him to take the stand.

It would have been the first time terror suspect Zayne Abu Zubaydah had spoken publicly since he was captured in 2002. He has never been charged. In August 2003, he was subjected to 83 rounds of waterboarding, an interrogation practice that simulates drowning.

Zubaydah had expressed a desire to be a witness at a court hearing for fellow detainee Ramzi Binalshibh -- also picked up from Pakistain on the first anniversary of 9/11 attacks -- who is one of five Guantanamo prisoners facing trial by a military commission for their alleged roles in planning and providing logistical support for the Sept 11 attacks.

Binalshibh has accused guards of causing noises and vibrations intended to disrupt his sleep and making it difficult for him to participate in his legal case, and his lawyer wanted Zubaydah to testify about how detainees have been treated.

"His attorneys have advised him not to testify," James Harrington, a civilian lawyer appointed to represent Binalshibh, told Army Col James Pohl, the judge presiding over the hearing. "The decision last night ... was not made until the last minute."

Zubaydah, 46, was captured in Faisalabad
...formerly known as Lyallpur, the third largest metropolis in Pakistain, the second largest in Punjab after Lahore. It is named after some Arab because the Paks didn't have anybody notable of their own to name it after...
in March 2002. When he was captured, authorities suspected he was a high-ranking member of Al Qaeda, though they have more recently described him in official documents as only a "controller" for the terror network. He has been held at Guantanamo since September 2006.

Earlier this month, Zubaydah’s lawyer, Mark Denbeaux, said his client would take the stand "unafraid of the truth that will emerge, confident that the world will come to know that he has committed no crimes".

But in a statement on Friday, he said that government prosecutors made it impossible for his client to testify because what he said could be used against him if he is ever tried.

"The government sought not truth, but stacked the deck in a way that made it impossible for my client to be presented fairly and accurately," Denbeaux’s law firm said in a statement. "For those reasons, we have respectfully abstained from taking part in this dog and pony show."

#5  I have been thinking about the Saudis and their situation vis a vis the visit of President Trump and Secretary of State Tillerson.

It seems to me that the Saudis are in a real bind. The oil price situation is burning them bad (of their own making), which in many ways a good thing. They are in a serious financial bind, which is not a bad thing at all for us. They realize that they need our help, so as indicated by the five star+ welcome of the US delegation. They sweetened the pot with a $110 billion arms deal. They have developed ties with Israel in similar ways to counter the Iran MM threat.

So the trick for President Trump is to support the Saudis without caving in to them and becoming their muscle to fight their battles.

The delicate art of the deal.

... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
if the premier does not step down in seven days.

Both bar associations are of the view that in light of the Supreme Court's ruling on the Panama Papers case, the prime minister should no longer hold the position and should therefore resign, a joint notification issued by the two bar associations said.

The notification from the two bodies came soon after SCBA and LHCBA members clashed with lawyers supporting the ruling Pakistain Moslem League - Nawaz (PML-N) government at the all Pakistain lawyers’ representatives convention on Saturday.

The convention was called to reiterate the lawyers' demand for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's resignation in wake of the Panama case verdict and also discuss the role of the bar associations in this regard.

Jadhav dealt with in accordance with law of land, says Nisar
[DAWN] Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan
...Currently the Interior Minister of Pakistain. He is the senior leader of the Pak Moslem League (N) and a close aide to Nawaz Uncle Fester Sharif. He is noted for his vocal anti-American railing in the National Assembly. However (comma) Khan told the U.S. ambassador that he was in fact pro-American but he and the PML-N would have to be critical of US actions in order to remain publicly credible. Khan cited his wife and children's US citizenship as proof, which means he's lying to one side or the other and probably both. He wears a wig, but you probably guessed that. since hair doesn't grow naturally in that shape or texture...
on Saturday said that Indian spy Kulbushan Jadhav was convicted by the court of law and it was established that he was a terrorist, spy and an agent involved in terrorist activities in Pakistain.

"Had Jadhav not been enjugged
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
on time, he might have spread more destruction in Pakistain," said Nisar while addressing the passing-out parade of 800 recruits of the Frontier Constabulary (FC) at Warsak, Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
.

The interior minister further said that there is no doubt that the whole nation is united on national security issues and advised "misguided elements" to avoid making this issue controversial.

He pointed out that it was India, and not Pakistain which had approached the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and added that the Pakistain government would deal Jadhav case according to its law of the land.

Iraq
Sadr Proscribes Alliance with Maliki
Erbil (BasNews) The holy manal leader of the Shi’ite Sadr Movement, Moqtada Tater al-Sadr
... the Iranian catspaw holy man who was 22 years old in 2003 and was nearing 40 in 2010. He spends most of his time in Iran, safely out of the line of fire, where he's learning to be an ayatollah...
, on Saturday warned senior Iraqi politicians and statesmen against forming coalition with the former prime minister, Nouri al-Maliki.

During a televised interview, along others Sadr asked Iraqi PM Haidar al-Abadi, Iraqi Vice President Ayad al-Allawi and Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jobouri not to form alliance with Iraqi VP Maliki.

"The Shi’ite authorities who ran Iraq in the past, were defeated and ... if Iraqi Shi’ites regain power, they will be defeated," Sadr said in reference to attempts by some Shi’ite parties to form a majority block.

Sadr indicated he does not mean that he supports Sunnis to rule Iraq, but it’s just that "it’s very difficult to find a Shi’ite figure to govern Iraq successfully."

He accused Maliki of selling one third of Iraq’s soil to the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) and advised Iraqi politicians "Let’s at least keep the remaining two parts."

The leader reiterated his opposition against Maliki to take over PM position for the third run and refused to make any compromise over his stance.

"I will not agree to that at all and we will not examine someone who has been examined before.... Maliki is the foremost responsible person for wasting the huge budget [of the country] and the occupation of Nineveh, Anabr and the rest of the area by IS."

However,
the man who has no enemies isn't anybody and has never done anything...
he thought Abadi can continue into the second term "if he continues with his reforms."

Regarding his plans, Sadr said currently he has dedicated himself to settling the issues of Iraq but plans to become Iraq’s senior Shi’ite clergy after stability prevails in the country.
After it becomes an Iranian satrapy, he means, with himself as satrap.

What’s Causing Malaysia’s Ethnic Chinese Brain Drain?
[SCMP] Cathy Chin left Malaysia for Australia feeling she had been treated as a "second-class citizen" because of her ethnicity.

"Malaysia is a beautiful country but the politics is sickening. Religion is put first, scholarships given on religion and ethnicity," said the registered nurse, who is ethnically Chinese.

"Every country has its own political and welfare issues, Australia included, but I feel that I get more rights as a second-class citizen here in Australia. My religion and ethnicity do not come into play."

Unfortunately for Malaysia, Chin, a 28-year-old with two degrees, is far from alone in feeling this way. According to Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the home minister, of the 56,576 Malaysians who renounced their citizenship between 2006 and 2016, 49,864 were Chinese.

Those figures were underlined by a recent study that found almost half of ethnic Chinese had a strong desire to leave Malaysia. Not only that, but the researchers from Oxford University found that across ethnicities, the Malaysians with the strongest desire to emigrate were those who had at least completed secondary education ‐ 17.3 per cent for Malays, 52.6 per cent for Chinese and 42 per cent for Indians. The survey also found that only 7.2 per cent of Chinese respondents felt the government’s economic policies were "very fair".

For Clementine Lee, 26, another ethnic Chinese Malaysian, moving to Shanghai meant better work opportunities, more money, and the kind of preferential treatment often bestowed upon expats. Lee is a public relations manager. Like Chin, she has two degrees.

"Malaysia is getting more backwards and religious," she said, citing the persecution of transgender women by Islamic authorities, laws governing conversion and apostasy, and the recent tabling of a bill in parliament that would enable sharia courts to hand out harsher punishments.

Ethnic Chinese in Malaysia have long complained of discrimination. Various politicians have exhorted the Chinese to "return to China", pro-Malay groups have urged them to "be grateful", and state-linked media have produced advertisements depicting the Chinese behaving inappropriately during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. And, in 2013, when the last general election saw increased support for the opposition, one newspaper ran a headline asking apa lagi Cina mau (what more do the Chinese want?) With another election looming, there is a danger both race and religion could again be exploited as politicians court the ethnic Malay vote.

Malaysia’s ethnic Chinese and Indians are generally crowded out of the education system. Up until 2001 a quota system kept most university places for Malays. Now universities have internal quotas. There is a widespread belief that non-Malays cannot get government scholarships due to race.

Analyst Hwok-Aun Lee, a senior fellow at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies in Singapore, said the disparity between groups, with Chinese indicating a much greater inclination to emigrate, was not healthy for Malaysia. "Chinese Malaysians on average have greater means to emigrate and have largely ingrained the ethos of self-reliance. They are also more likely to have emigrant family and friends who may encourage the decision and provide moral and practical support," Lee said. He said that academic high-achievers who head abroad "often express the sentiment they were not given a fair chance, or felt undervalued".

However,
denial ain't just a river in Egypt...

the deputy home minister Nur Jazlan Mohammed said: "Brain drain is about many factors. But with many countries being more closed about immigration policies, those who emigrate from Malaysia may find fewer opportunities and more discrimination in other countries."

Professor Rajah Rasiah, of the University Malaya’s Department of Development Studies, said peoples’ feeling of being politically disadvantaged was one reason driving migration, while perceptions of creeping Islamisation, as well as the nature of politics in Malaysia, may also have an influence. He said there needed to be opportunities for people with skills and experience to return to Malaysia and work. He said state-run firms "must emphasise merit and be subject to performance standards". Rajah said Malaysians in successful positions overseas were willing to consider returning. "However,
some men learn by reading. A few learn by observation. The rest have to pee on the electric fence for themselves...

they have made it clear that unless the state shows a passion to welcome them back as real Malaysians, and offer the same privileges as for the others, they will not return when they are still productive," he said.

The number of Malaysian professionals overseas returning home has dropped by more than half since 2013, according to statistics from national talent enhancement agency TalentCorp. One of its initiatives, the Returning Expert Programme, facilitates the return of professionals abroad, to address Malaysia’s shortage of technical experts. In 2016 there were only 398 returners, 55.8 per cent lower than the 900 in 2013 and far below the target of 800 returners. In 2015 and 2014 there were 616 and 606 returners respectively.

#1  For those of you who have never been to Malaysia, Chinese = whites, Malays = blacks. Malaysian law heavily favors Malays and considers Chinese can do everything themselves. Kind of like American law.

#2  Since Malays are a majority - it would be more like South Africa, nyet?

#5  The Malayan Emergency... from 1948 until 1960. Support for the MNLA was mainly based on around 500,000 of the 3.12 million ethnic Chinese then living in Malaya.
The tl;dr...The Chinese are foreign trouble makers.
