Pak army leadership asks Afghanistan to 'look inward' for Kabul attackers
[DAWN] A special Corps Commanders' Conference was held at General Headquarters Tuesday during which the forum expressed its solidarity with the people and security forces of Afghanistan in the backdrop of recent terrorist incidents, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.,

The statement added that while expressing their support for the Afghan people, the corps commanders also expressed serious reservations to 'the unwarranted accusations and threats' directed at Pakistain in the aftermath of the Kabul bombing.

"The forum also concluded that instead of blaming Pakistain, Afghanistan needs to look inward and identify the real issues," read the ISPR statement.

The statement also said that the forum reiterated the Army's resolve to "defend the motherland against all types of threat."Pix/leghike.jpgPix/leghike.jpgPix/leghike.jpg

Pakistan waging 'undeclared war of aggression' against Afghanistan, Ghani tells Kabul Process
[DAWN] Afghanistan's Caped President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
lashed out at Pakistain at the Kabul Process on Tuesday, alleging that it is waging an "undeclared war of aggression" against Afghanistan.

Issuing a stinging rebuke aimed towards Pakistain before a gathering of 23 nations, the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
, the United Nations

and NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A cautionary tale of cost-benefit analysis....
, Ghani asked: "What will it take to convince Pakistain that a stable Afghanistan helps them and helps our region?"

Ghani's fresh criticism comes as the Kabul Process, a forum for the discussing security and political issues in the country, is underway.

Pakistain and Afghanistan have long accused each other of turning a blind eye to turbans operating along their mostly non-existent border, and both forces exchanged fire over a border dispute last month.

Those using suicide bombers, terrorism for political means will fail: Abdullah
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Chief Executive of the Government of National Unity of Afghanistan Abdullah Abdullah
... the former foreign minister of the Northern Alliance government, advisor to Masood, and candidate for president against Karzai. Dr. Abdullah was born in Kabul and is half Tadjik and half Pashtun...
said those using jacket wallahs and terrorism for political means will fail.

Speaking at the end of the Kabul Process summit, Abdullah said "Those who use suicide and terrorism as a mean be aware that you will eventually fail."

Abdullah further added "We will seek justice & our resolve for a unified, prosperous and peaceful tomorrow will overcome your dark & evil intentions."

In regards to those involved in the relentless insurgency and deadly attacks, CEO Abdullah said "To those who r manipulated, brain-washed & used as fodder, there is no reward awaiting the murderer of innocent human beings."

In other parts of his speech, Abdullah paid tribute to the recent victims of the global terrorist attacks, including the victims of London terror attack.

He hailed the participants of the summit for supporting and calling for genuine state-to-state cooperation and regional mechanisms to eliminate the menace of terrorism.

"In fight against terrorism, we must use same toolkit, whether we confront lone-wolves or state actors enabling terrorism," he added.

CEO Abdullah also added that the ongoing violence in Afghanistan has external routes, emphasizing that the leadership councils of the terror groups are located outside the country and are using their safe havens for the deadly attacks in Afghanistan.

"Terrorism whose headquarter is located outside our borders, misuses Islam & provokes ethnic politics to recruit terrorists," he added.

He also added "In our fight against terrorism, we need to commit to uprooting sanctuaries and dismantling support infrastructures."

"Most of these elements are external to Afghanistan, and we need to do something about them before it’s too late," he said, adding that "Therefore, our efforts, bilateral or multilateral at core need to be pragmatically centered on dealing with the externalities."

Afghanistan President: More than 150 Killed in Last Week’s Kabul Blast
[Asharq al-Aswat] Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
announced on Tuesday that the corpse count from last week’s truck bombing in the capital Kabul has reached to over 150.

He said during a peace conference in the city that more than 300 people were maimed in the attack.

The blast occurred when a sewage truck packed with what Ghani called "military-grade" explosives detonated at the entrance to a fortified area of that city that includes foreign embassies and government buildings.

The new corpse count makes it the deadliest attack in the Afghan capital since the ouster of the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
in 2001.

"We were not the only targets, the entire diplomatic community was the target of this attack," Ghani told foreign diplomats gathered for the conference.

Previous official estimates had put the corpse count at about 90, with more than 460 maimed.

All of those killed were Afghans, and Ghani paid specific homage to 13 coppers who stopped the truck as it tried to enter the fortified district and were killed in the blast.

Burundi to pay salary for its peacekeepers in Somalia
[SHABELLENEWS] Burundian peacekeepers serving in the African Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) are to receive their salary arrears as the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
(EU) has peacekeepers’ salary arrears for six months, the Burundian army front man said.

"Our peacekeepers in Somalia had spent over one year without getting their salaries. But we got them on Saturday last week. The European Union has deposited salary arrears for six months. We are therefore going to pay our troops," Gaspard Baratuza said.

Baratuza said the participation in international peacekeeping missions "bears positive results" for countries contributing troops as the latter gain experience.

The failure to pay peacekeepers’ salaries for 12 months had forced the Burundian government to threaten to withdraw its troops from Somalia.

EU to Give 50 Million Euros for African Force in Sahel
[AnNahar] The EU is giving 50 million euros to set up a joint African military force in the Sahel region
... North Africa's answer to the Pak tribal areas...
to fight jihadists, the bloc's foreign affairs chief said Monday.

The funds will help pay for the troops to fight terrorism, cross-border crime and illegal immigration, European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
diplomatic chief Federica Mogherini said in the Mali capital Bamako.

"Stability and development of the Sahel region are crucial not only for Africa but also for Europe," said Mogherini.

"This contribution will arrive very quickly and I hope (it) will set out the right path to other partners of the Sahel G5".

Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Chad and Burkina Faso
...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and will leave office feet first, one way or the other...
-- dubbed the Sahel G5 -- in March approved plans to build the force of 5,000 troops made up of soldiers, police forces and civilians.

But on Monday Mali's foreign minister announced leaders of the five nations had decided this number would be doubled.

"The heads of state of the Sahel G5 who met in Riyadh just a few weeks ago decided to bring the number from 5,000 men to 10,000 men. This really shows their engagement because this is a vast area," Abdoulaye Diop said.

Mali's north came under attack in 2012 from jihadist groups, linked to al-Qaeda, who hijacked an ethnic Tuareg-led rebel uprising.

Though the Islamists were largely ousted by a French-led military operation in January 2013, jihadist groups continue to mount attacks on civilians and security forces in the arid remote north.

Since 2015, the attacks have spread to the centre and south of the country, often spilling over into neighbouring countries including Niger and Burkina Faso.

The initial decision to create the G5 Sahel force, in the semi-arid region south of the Sahara, was made in November 2015, during a summit in N'Djamena.

Saudis planning to execute 14 Shias after unfair trial
[Iran Press TV] International rights groups say Soddy Arabia

The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
plans to execute 14 Shia civilians following a "grossly unfair trial" over political protests.

"The rise in death sentences against Saudi Arabian Shia is alarming and suggests that the authorities are using the death penalty to settle scores and crush dissent under the guise of combating 'terrorism' and maintaining national security," said Human Rights Watch’s Sarah Leah Whitson on Tuesday.

Court documents seen by Amnesia Amnesty International have revealed that a total of 38 defendants were detained and kept in pre-trial detention for over two years before their trial began.

For most of the time they were held in solitary confinement and their families denied access to them.

"The sham court proceedings that led to death sentences ... brazenly flout international fair trial standards," said Amnesty’s Middle East Director Lynn Maalouf.

"Death sentences based on coerced "confessions" violate international human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
law and are a repugnant yet all-too-common outcome in security-related cases in Saudi Arabia," added Maalouf. "These death penalty trials fail to meet even the most basic requirements for due process," he noted.

"The sentences should immediately be quashed," she added.

Flirting with Doha, Tehran Calls to ‘Reject Tension’
[Asharq al-Aswat] Following Soddy Arabia

...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
, Iran’s foreign ministry front man, Bahram Ghasemi, called on Gulf states to "renounce tension through dialogue."

Other Tehran officials tried to build bridges with Doha by attacking countries that joined the boycott. Former diplomats have warned their government of the consequences of "investing the Qatar’s card in Gulf tensions."

"The era of cutting diplomatic ties and closing borders ... is not a way to resolve crisis," Hamid Aboutalebi, deputy chief of staff of Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani, tweeted on Monday.

Aboutalebi reiterated his country’s disdain and criticism of the Arab-Islamic-US summit held in Riyadh in May, unleashing a wave of harsh criticism towards each of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, UAE and Bahrain.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Monday urged Qatar and neighboring Gulf Arab countries that have severed diplomatic ties with it to engage in dialogue to resolve their dispute.

"Neighbors are permanent- geography can’t be changed. Coercion is never the solution. Dialogue is imperative," Zarif tweeted.

According to AFP, foreign ministry front man Ghasemi said in a statement that a solution to the differences between Qatar and its three Gulf neighbors "is only possible through political and peaceful methods and dialogue between the parties".

"Using sanctions in today’s integrated world is inefficient, to be condemned and unacceptable," Ghasemi added of Qatar’s neighbors closing all land, sea and air links with it.

Mohammad-Ali Abtahi, head of the office of former reformist president Mohammad Khatami, attacked Saudi policy, saying severing relations with Qatar was an "Arab earthquake." He called on Iran to abstain from interfering and that rationale prevails with what concerns Iranian involvement in intra-Gulf affairs.

The four Arab nations also cut off sea and air links with Qatar, which relies on imports from its neighbours.

Bangladesh
Ailing Shafi taken to ICU as health deteriorates
[Dhaka Tribune] Ailing Hefazat-e-Islam chief Shah Ahmed Shafi has been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of Asgar Ali Hospital at Gandaria in Dhaka as his health condition has deteriorated.

Azizul Haque Islamabadi, central organising secretary of the Islamist platform, told the Dhaka Tribune that Shafi was flown to Dhaka by an air ambulance on Tuesday and admitted to the hospital.

“Shafi Huzur [cleric] has been suffering from various old age complications including high blood pressure and diabetes. He is now taking liquid food through tube. His respiratory problem has also worsened. He is so ill that he can barely speak,” Azizul said.

The 96-year-old was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chittagong city after he fell sick on May 18.

The controversial nonagenarian leader, who is known as Boro Hujur (the oldest cleric) among his followers, is heavily lambasted by progressive people for his highly prejudicial views on various social issues and also for the radical Islamist platform’s pledge of Islamising Bangladesh.

Shafi is the rector of Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Moinul Islam, also known as Hathazari Madrasa, and the chairman of Befaqul Madarisil Arabia Bangladesh, the largest Qawmi Madrasa board in the country.

Britain
Brother of London jihad mass-murderer was paid by UK Govt to ‘fight extremism'
BLUF: [Geller Report] The brother of the man behind the brutal massacre of seven people in the London Bridge terror attack had actually been paid by police to fight extremism, despite it going on within his own home.

Saad Butt, 29, brother of murderer Khuram, 27, was involved in the Government’s ‘Prevent’ programme set up to counter extremist groups.

His actions are a far cry from his younger brother, who led the three-man death squad who went on a bloodthirsty stabbing frenzy in Borough Market on Saturday night, injuring a further 48 people.

The news has prompted further questions as to how authorities missed Khuram’s bloodthirsty plans when they worked so closely with one of his blood relatives.

He was even being investigated by anti-terror forces in 2015 but was deemed a ‘low priority’ with police saying there was ‘no evidence he was planning an attack’.

#6  From #5's link:

The terrorists, though, have succeeded in turning the police agents sent to spy on them and forcing them to commit suicide attacks to expiate their sins. This has become depressingly familiar; as Ryan Gallagher reported recently, perpetrators already known to the authorities committed ten of the highest-profile attacks between 2013 and 2015.

The terrorists, in other words, are adding insult to injury. By deploying police snitches as suicide attackers, terrorists assert their moral superiority and power over western governments. The message may be lost on the western public, whose security agencies and media do their best to obscure it, but it is well understood among the core constituencies of the terrorist groups: the superiority of Islam turns around the depraved criminals whom the western police send to spy on us, and persuades them to become martyrs for the cause of Islam.

The Grand Turk
Turkey denies Gülen denaturalization may prevent extradition from US
[Hurriyet Daily News] The denaturalization of U.S.-based Islamic preacher Fethullah Gülen would not create an obstacle to his extradition from the U.S. to Turkey, Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ said June 6.

His remarks came one day after the Interior Ministry issued a notice for 130 people abroad, who are being investigated on terror charges and crimes against the constitutional order, to be denaturalized unless they return and apply to the relevant institutions in Turkey within a three-month period.

According to a government decision officially published on June 5, Ankara will revoke the citizenship of 130 individuals if they do not return to the country and face charges against them. The Interior Ministry’s list also included Gülen, who is accused of masterminding the July 2016 failed coup attempt.

“Turkey’s right to judge [Gülen] is reserved under all circumstances and dismissal of this right is out of question. It [the loss of Gülen’s citizenship] is not an obstacle to his extradition and provisional arrest,” Bozdağ told reporters in parliament.

He also said Turkey would not give up on its quest to extradite Gülen from the U.S. to Turkey.

Values of Turkey’s ruling AKP rapidly weakening: Former PM Davutoglu
[Hurriyet Daily News] The values of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) are “rapidly weakening,” former Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu has said, commenting on a file that emerged online in 2016 that called for the resignation of several figures from the AKP.

“We witnessed an incident called the ‘Pelican Briefing.’ Unfortunately, this was done against many figures from the AKP,” Davutoğlu said in an interview on the Kanal 24 TV station.

The “Pelican Brief” was an anonymous Wordpress blog post that was published online on May 1, 2016, written by a man who claimed to be a staunch supporter of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. It alleged that Davutoğlu had “betrayed” Erdoğan by not pushing hard enough for the executive presidential system and also by “collaborating with the West and its Trojan horses [inside Turkey] who want to topple the chief.”

Davutoğlu resigned several days later, leaving his post to Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım.

“The AKP is rapidly weakening its own values. Reputation assassinations are being conducted. What saddened us most was the silence of our friends on the issue,” Davutoğlu said, adding that similar attempts were being directed at the head of the Religious Affairs Directorate (Diyanet), Mehmet Görmez.

Meanwhile, Davutoğlu and former Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arınç did not attend an iftar fast-breaking meal hosted by Prime Minister Yıldırım in Ankara on June 5.

Yıldırım had sent an invitation to former AKP lawmakers who were on duty between the 22nd and 26th terms for the iftar meal. Some 1,200 guests attended the event and two seats were reserved at Yıldırım’s table for Davutoğlu and Arınç but they were left empty.

Have it your way, PM Yildirim tells Germany on Incirlik air base
[Hurriyet Daily News] Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım has said the German government can “remove its troops however it wants” and the decision has “nothing to do with Turkey,” adding that German soldiers’ probable leaving of the İncirlik air base in southern Turkey would be of little consequence.

“There is no decision we have taken on this. They can have it their own way,” Yıldırım told reporters on June 6 at parliament.

His words followed Germany’s announcement that it will have to remove its troops and surveillance aircrafts based in the İncirlik base after Turkey repeatedly refused to allow German lawmakers to visit the base.

German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel held talks with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu on June 5 but he could only get Turkish consent for a visit to a base in Konya, where German troops are stationed as part of a NATO mission.

Çavuşoğlu made clear that a visit to İncirlik was impossible given the current conjuncture and Germany’s acceptance of the asylum requests of hundreds of former military personnel and diplomats in the aftermath of the July 2016 coup attempt.

Germany has around 250 troops and six Tornado surveillance aircrafts based at the Incirlik as part of the international coalition fighting the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

Sears Department Store Now Peddling 'Free Palestine' T-Shirts
[Jpost] After the story sparked an online petition, Sears responded to The Jerusalem Post personally.

Now shoppers can purchase a souvenir of the conflict along with a new refrigerator.

Times must be tough in the appliances sector - classic American home goods department store Sears has turned to commercializing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Now with your washer-dryer, customers can pick up a women's "Free Palestine" t-shirt in their choice of six colors.

The t-shirt features a fist in the colors of the Palestinian flag, with the words "Free Palestine, End Israeli Occupation" emblazoned on the front. The product description encourages shoppers to "Make a statement about the Arab-Israeli conflict with this powerful design."
Verified HERE. Bye, Sears.
When questioned, a Sears representative told The Jerusalem Post that they are aware of the t-shirt and have escalated the situation. "We will be removing the items soon. Please allow us 24 hours. Thank you for understanding," he said.

"We do not want our members to be unhappy," he continued. "This item is sold by a third-party seller via the Sears Marketplace. Given the feedback we’ve received, we are currently evaluating the items in question to determine appropriate action. We will fix it and ensure this is not repeated."
The Times of Israel adds:
The clothing is being offered for sale by a Germany company, Spreadshirt, and includes tank tops, T-shirts and hoodies featuring a variety of pro-Palestinian messages. The garments are being sold through Sears Marketplace, which offers a platform for third-party sellers to offer their wares through websites managed by Sears.

Another company, US-based City Shirts from Bloomington, Minnesota, offers “Free Palestine” T-shirts that feature a map of the West Bank and Israel as one territory, a representation that is usually taken to mean a denial of Israel’s right to exist.
Update from The Times of Israel at 4:10 pm EDT: Sears has pulled the items, based on the feedback they received, though they feel unfairly singled out on this issue. WalMart today also discontinued carrying the items. No word from Amazon, though.
