Afghanistan
Karzai calls on Pakistan to abandon support to terrorism after deadly Lahore bombing
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The former Afghanistan's Caped President Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai
...A product, probably the sole product, of the Southern Alliance...
has called on Pakistain to abandon nurturing and supporting the terrorist groups after the deadly bombing Lahore city.

The Office of the former Afghanistan's Caped President in a statement said Karzai has expressed deep concerns regarding the casualties of the civilians and the terrorist attack in Lahore.

Calling the attack against the values of humanity and Islam, Karzai said Pakistain must abandon support to terrorist groups so that the region can live peacefully and specifically help Afghanistan and Pakistain to get rid of the menace of the terror.

He called on Pakistain to support Afghanistan and take honest steps to eliminate the menace of terrorism as he insisted on further improving relations with Pakistain.

Karzai further added that Paks are the brothers of the Afghan people and the Afghan nation shares the grief and sorrows of the people of Pakistain.

The attack in Lahore city, the scenic provincial capital of Lahore province of Pakistain left at least 26 dead and more than 50 others maimed.

The incident took place on Monday afternoon after a jacket wallah detonated his explosives near the security personnel.

The Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
group in Pakistain, Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain grabbed credit behind the deadly attack.

The remarks by Karzai came as the Afghan officials have long been criticizing Pakistain for allowing the Afghan myrmidon groups, specifically the Haqqani terrorist network to use its soil for planning and carrying out attacks in Afghanistan, a claim which has repeatedly been backed by numerous US government reports during the recent years and months.

US purchases five new ScanEagle drones for the Afghan forces
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The United States has awarded a Washington-based firm for the purchase and delivery of five new ScanleEagle drones for the Afghan national defense and security forces.

The order provides for the procurement of five ScanEagle Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UASs), spares, support equipment, field service representatives, operators to provide technical services, site surveys, site activations teams, and program management to sustain and operate the ScanEagle UASs within Afghanistan.

"Work will be performed in Afghanistan (95 percent); and Bingen, Washington (5 percent), and is expected to be completed in April 2018. Afghan Security Forces funding in the amount of $19,611,424 is being obligated on this award, none of which will expire at the end of the current fiscal year," the statement added.

This comes as efforts are underway by the Afghan government and the international allies of Afghanistan to increase the air power of the Afghan cops.

The commander of the United States Central Command General Joseph L. Votel requested the US Congress to approve the budget for the Afghan forces Blackhawk program.

Thinni government wants imams to preach against random shooting
[Libya Herald] The acting interior minister in the Beida-based interim government has called on the head of its General Authority for Awqaf (religious endowments) and Islamic Affairs to instruct imams to preach against indiscriminate firing of weapons.

Hussein Ellabar told Awqaf chief Abdulmouli al-Hassanouni that an awareness programme pointing out the dangers of indiscriminate firing into the air needed to be disseminated through mosques. People were being killed an injured as a result, he pointed out. It also caused panic particularly among the sick and the elderly as well as being selfish and resented, he added.

With the mass of weapons and ammunition held in Libya, shooting guns into the air not, just to warn off people but at weddings and other events, is an almost daily occurrenc, and has been since the 2011 revolutione. Sometimes, it is not just guns but rocket-propelled grenades as well.

Just three days ago, a 25-year-old man was maimed in Benghazi’s Salmani district as a result of what is thought to have been random firing. So too the same day was a 54-year-old woman when a shell landed at a social club in the city. Today, a 19-year-old young woman was hit in the eye by indiscriminate fire near Sabri.

Beida government insists its Islamic affairs authority is moderate
[Libya Herald] The Beida-based government has sided with its Awqaf (religious endowments) and Islamic Affairs Authority in the row over the latter’s fatwa damning Ibadis as infidels. It has claimed that the committee is moderate, keen on social peace and keeping Libya united.

Last month the authority has issued an edict describing Ibadi Moslems as infidels and "Kharjites" despite the fact that a large proportion of Libya’s Amazigh community are Ibadis.

According to the Libyan Tamzight Congress, there are between 300,000 to 400,000 of them in the country.

The edict has produced a massive outcry , both from the Amazigh and the non-Amazigh communities in the country. Last week, the Presidency Council joined in the condemnation.

Ignoring the link between the Amazigh and the Ibadi form of Islam and indicating surprise at the outcry, the Beida government said there had been no mention of the Amazigh in the edict. It called on all Libyans, including the Amazigh, to remain calm and collected, and not allow themselves to be drawn into any conflict as a result of the it.

The interim government’s response follows a similar statement from the Awqaf authority’s fatwa committee a couple of days ago, in which it similarly tried to exculpate itself in the row by likewise stressing that there had been no mention of the Amazigh.

Justice and Construction Party rejects France-sponsored meeting of Fayaz Sirraj and Khalifa Haftar
[Libya Observer] Justice and Construction Party, one of Libyan Political Agreement signatories, has rejected the outcome of Gay Paree meeting between the head of UN-installed Presidential Council Fayaz al-Sirraj and chief of Dignity Operation Khalifa Haftar
... served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
In a statement shortly after the meeting, which was brokered by French President Emmanuel Macro, the party said any amendments to the Libyan Political Agreement signed in Skhirat, Morocco, must be done according to terms of the agreement and under the umbrella of the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...
"Holding meetings under the auspices of individual states is a deviation from the political track of the political agreement and a mix-up of it. Such meetings open the way for the agendas of those states to favor one side over the other and to deepen the division and crisis", read the statement, adding that "some countries are the problem and not the solution".

The party indicated that the Presidential Council, House of Representatives and the High Council of State derive their legitimacy from the Libyan Political Agreement and they can only act in accordance with the terms of the agreement.

60 to face mass 'terrorism' trial in Bahrain
[DAWN] Bahrain, on Wednesday, charged 60 people with forming a "terrorist group", with a judicial source saying all 60 are Shiites, as authorities tighten their grip on dissent in the Sunni-ruled kingdom.

The 60 face a mass trial, scheduled to open on August 22, for charges including "forming a terrorist group, training in the use of weapons and explosives with the aim of carrying out terrorist attacks and the deliberate killing of coppers", public prosecutor Ahmad al-Hamadi said.

Thirteen of the defendants have "fled to Iran, Iraq and Germany" and will be tried in absentia, state news agency BNA reported.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a judicial source told AFP that all 60 of those charged were Shiite Moslems.

Prince Salman seeking to remove head of Saudi national guard
[Iran Press TV] Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, who became the next in line for the throne by sweeping aside his father's nephew Mohammed bin Nayef, is now planning to secure his path to power by removing the kingdom’s National Guard Minister Mutaib bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud , according to a new report.

Wary of a possible coup down the road, the 33-year-old prince thinks removing Abdullah and dismantling the powerful national guard allows him to take control over at least 80 percent of the country’s military and security forces, the Lebanese al-Nabaa TV reported Wednesday.

Under the new plan, the national guard would lose its ministerial status and operate instead under the command of the Defense Ministry, which is also headed by Salman.

However,
nothing needs reforming like other people's bad habits...
the task only looks easy on paper since the national guard has evolved from a small government entity into an influential organization that specializes in protecting the royal family from internal dangers such as, ironically enough, a coup, the report added.

Founded in 1911, the force entered its golden era in the early 1960s, thanks to strong support from late King Abdullah.

Mutaib entered the national guard in 1990 and was appointed as its new commander some 20 years later. The powerful prince managed to overhaul the force through a $3 billion program that began less than a year later.

#1  ...This bears watching. The Saudi NG isn't the National Guard the way we understand it - it's a light mechanized cavalry force (best way to describe it) that is a direct descendant of the Ikwhahan, the force that conquered the Arabian Peninsula under the first King Abdul Aziz, and is answerable directly and ONLY to whoever the current king is. They don't come under the regular Saudi chain of command and whatever the Saudi government might say, their job is the protection of the House of Saud. They tend to be highly motivated and highly competent Bedouin who take their jobs very seriously.

If someone is trying to get them on a leash, then that someone is trying to take them off the board for some reason. Stay tuned...

More than 40 people, including women and kiddies, were killed and dozens of others were maimed after a Saudi-led strike hit the refugee boat near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait in the Red Sea.

The coalition has denied striking the boat near the port of Hudaydah.

"This civilian vessel was almost certainly attacked using a 7.62 mm caliber weapon from an armed utility helicopter," the Sherlocks wrote in a 185-page report to the UN Security Council on Monday, Rooters reported on Wednesday, adding that the helicopter was likely operating from a naval vessel.

The UN report said the attack violated international humanitarian law and threatened the peace, security and stability of Yemen.

French police use excessive force on Calais migrants: Human Rights Watch
[AhramOnline] Human Rights Watch pressed France on Wednesday to end what it described as recurrent police violence against migrants in the northern town of Calais, where hundreds have returned despite the demolition of a sprawling camp once known as "the jungle".

In a report entitled "Like Living in Hell", the U.S.-based rights group said police routinely abused migrants in the hope of having them leave the coastal city.

Based on interviews conducted with some 60 migrants in the area, Human Rights Watch (HRW) said police had used pepper spray on child and adult migrants while they were sleeping, regularly sprayed or confiscated sleeping bags and clothing, and sometimes destroyed food and water.

"Such acts violate the prohibition on inhuman and degrading treatment as well as international standards on police conduct," HRW said.
"inhuman and degrading"....but effective.

Colonizers Overwhelm German Courts with Asylum Lawsuits: ‘This Will Paralyze Us for Years'
[Free Beacon] Migrants are overwhelming the German court system as hundreds of thousands have appealed rulings denying them refugee status.

Many migrants are suing after being granted "subsidiary protection" status by the German authorities, seeking to become full refugeees, the Washington Post reports. Those with subsidiary protection status can stay in Germany for up to three years, but do not have the right to reunify with family.

Two-thirds of cases in Berlin's administrative court are from asylum seekers, as 250,000 appeals are pending across the country Germany.

"This will paralyze us for years," a judge told Berlin newspaper Der Tagesspiegel concerning the build up of lawsuits.

#1  My advice to the Germans - offshore it.
Posted by: g(r)omgoru || 07/27/2017 7:52 Comments || Top||

#2  Germany needs to treat this like the emergency it is, instead of just working longer and harder in the same way as they have done in the past. The asylum/refugee program already has a liberal appeals process built in; there is no need to extend further supported presence in-country while legal appeals run through the courts.

This is how known Islamists are still on the rolls when they commit terror attacks at the end of years of appeals.

Pass a law allowing no more than two levels of appeal followed by immediate expulsion -- taken from the ruling directly to the waiting airplane -- upon rejection. And any of that 250,000 who have exceeded these criteria is to be picked up and held for expulsion immediately without appeal -- after processing for DNA, fingerprints, photos, copies of passports and other official papers, and copies of the contents of all electronic devices. It's important that all members of Islamist groups be separated and handed over to their home govrenments for punishment.

Oh, and anyone who lied about his age, pretending to be a child, is also to be expelled immediately. Germany needs honest citizens who will work as hard as the natives, not people who start out gaming the system.

Sadly, it's likely none of this will be done so long as childless Angela Merkel is in charge.

5 children injured as explosive devices blow up in an under-construction building in Swat
[DAWN] Five children were maimed on Wednesday when bombs in an under-construction building went off in a village in Swat's Barakot Tehsil, police said.

The school children, aged between 6 and 12, were playing in a heap of sand in a building in Rangila village, when devices buried under the sand went off.

"Police and security forces arrived at the scene and began investigations [into the incident] while the injured children were shifted to the Saidu Teaching hospital," said Deputy Superintendent of Police Barikot Syed Zaman Shan.

Dr Mingul Aleem of the Saidu Teaching hospital said that two of the five children were critically injured and had been shifted to the operation theatre for surgery.

The other three children, however, received minor injuries and were out of danger, the doctor added.

Iraq
After ISIS, Mosul rebuilds mosques, monuments -- and society
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Faisal Jeber jugged
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
and interrogated suspected ISIS Death Eaters during the battle for djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
. Now he is taking up a new fight that could be just as crucial to the city’s future.

The 47-year-old geologist is trying to restore historical sites damaged during the krazed killer group’s brutal three-year rule over the northern Iraqi city. By piecing back together buildings which he says gave Mosul its soul and identity before the war, Jeber hopes also to help rebuild its social fabric.

But the city’s renaissance could take a generation, if it happens at all, he says, and it is uncertain how Mosul and other Iraqi towns and cities recaptured by government forces will look afterwards. How Mosul’s identity is reconstituted will help determine whether Iraqi leaders can pacify a country dogged by Death Eaters and sectarian bloodshed for the past decade.

"ISIS tried hard to destroy Mosul’s identity by demolishing everything and making it monochrome," Faisal told Rooters in Mosul. "I am using this to unite my city and then maybe the whole country."

Before the war, Mosul was Iraq’s second-largest city, known for its diversity, religious conservatism and nationalism. After the US-led invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein in 2003, it became a base for al Qaeda and insurgency.

Since ISIS seized Mosul in 2014 in the face of the Iraqi army’s collapse, the Death Eaters have blown up monuments, evicted communities that had lived together for centuries and turned neighbors against each other. Following the group’s defeat in Mosul this month in a US-backed offensive, billboards have gone up on a main road hailing the city as the cradle of civilization and showing landmarks dating back to the days of Mesopotamia.

It is, Jeber says, a unique moment to rebuild Mosul’s multicultural identity and combat radicalism. "It’s an opportunity and it’s just the right time to do it because if you talked to any Mosulawi about that before (ISIS), nobody would accept it. But now people came out of a radical Moslem experience, they are in shock," he said. "Either we do it this year and we use this opportunity or else we lose it forever. We have a very narrow window."

Israel removes more security installations outside Temple Mount
I really hope the Israelis have something up their sleeves.
[IsraelTimes] Railings, scaffolding for cameras dismantled at entrance to sensitive holy site, a day after metal detectors were taken down

Israel late Wednesday removed relatively minor security installations, including fairly flimsy metal railings, from an entrance to the Temple Mount in the Old City of Jerusalem, a sensitive holy site that has been at the center of violence over the past two weeks in the wake of a terror attack in which two Israeli coppers were killed near the compound. The Moslem authorities who administer the site had demanded that the railings be removed, among other steps, in a list given to Israel Police earlier Wednesday.

In response to the July 14 attack, in which three Arab Israelis killed the two officers near the Lions Gate with guns they had smuggled into the holy site, Israel installed security measures at the entrances, including metal detectors, which set off protests and deadly unrest in and around East Jerusalem and the West Bank.

Early on Tuesday, Israel had removed the metal detectors. Late on Wednesday night, newly installed railings and scaffolding where cameras were previously mounted were also removed from the Lions Gate area near the entrance to the Mount.

The removal of the railings and scaffolding late Wednesday prompted celebrations by Paleostinians, who danced, whistled and honked their horns near the site.

Moslems have refused to enter the site and have prayed in the streets outside for more than a week after Israel installed the new security measures.

It was not immediately clear whether Moslem authorities would now give their approval to re-enter the site. They had demanded that all security changes at access points to the compound be removed, and on Wednesday gave a list of such demands to Israel Police. The list included reopening five gates to the Temple Mount closed in the latest crisis, the removal of five new cameras installed in the Mount area, and the removal of the metal railings placed at the entrances.

The Paleostinian Authority of the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
has frozen ties with Israel over the episode, and Abbas on Wednesday approved mass demonstrations on a "day of rage" scheduled for Friday. The Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", terror group also called for protests on Friday.

[AA.TR] A leading Moslem figure has been appointed to head the police in Marawi City, where pro-ISIS murderous Moslems have been fighting for two months.

Ebra Moxsir al-Haj, president of the Imam Council of the Philippines, assumed his role on Monday, Chief Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac, the police chief for the Autonomous Region in Moslem Mindanao, said in a statement.

Moxsir, a native of the city, has been a member of the Philippine National Police Chaplain Service for 22 years, GMA News reported.

"A fusion of spiritual and strategic rule, Superintendent Moxsir is expected to deliver a traditional yet innovative way of handling his area of responsibility," Sindac said, according to GMA.

The new police chief would be key to bringing peace to the city, the statement added.

Since its inception in the early 1990s, the group has carried out bombings, kidnappings, murders, head choppings, and extortion in their uniquely Islamic attempt to set up an independent Moslem province in the Philippines. Abu Sayyaf forces probably number less than 300 cadres. Pockets of murderous Moslems are still holding out in a battle that has seen 453 bad boys, 109 government troops and 45 civilians killed.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
U.S. pledges extra $140 mln to Lebanon for Syrian refugees
[AlAhram] The United States will give Leb an extra $140 million to help Syrian refugees and the communities hosting them, the State Department said during a U.S. state visit by Leb's Prime Minister.

Leb is hosting at least 1.5 million Syrian refugees who have fled the more than six-year conflict there and who now make up about a quarter of the country's population.

The latest grant means the United States has given Leb more than $1.5 billion in humanitarian assistance since the start of the conflict in 2012, the State Department said.

In its 2017-2010 Crisis Response Plan, the Lebanese government said it needed $2.8 billion to address the challenges of hosting refugees.

The U.S. money will be used for food, shelter and medical assistance for Syrian refugees and Lebanese host communities. It will also support water and wastewater infrastructure projects, the State Department said in a statement.

Nasrallah says Arsal operation decided solely by Hezbollah
[Iran Press TV] The secretary general of Leb’s resistance movement Hezbollah His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah
The satrap of the Medes and the Persians in Leb...
says a recent military operation by the group against forces of Evil in the Syria-Leb border region, which resulted in significant victories for the Lebanese forces, was solely an internal issue and no other party outside Leb was involved in the case.

"The Arsal operation was solely decided by Hezbollah," Nasrallah said in a televised speech on Wednesday, making a reference to the Lebanese border town, which was the epicenter of an anti-terror fight on the Syria-Leb border over the past week.

Elaborating on the significance of the operation, Nasrallah said the area that straddles the Lebanese-Syrian border was known for its harsh geographical features, saying Hezbollah forces and allies in the Lebanese and Syrian army made a great achievement by liberating key positions from the murderous Moslems.

Nasrallah hailed the sacrifices made by the Lebanese military in the fight against terrorists, saying the army proved that it was a real partner for the resistance.

He said Leb’s military and security officials played a major role in the operation, adding that they facilitated victories against forces of Evil of al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli al-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
Front in the Syria-Leb region.

Nasrallah said the operation to recapture the border area from Nusra, which is currently known as Jabhat Fatah al-Sham, was almost complete and nearly 100 percent of the territories that used to be controlled by the Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
forces of Evil were now liberated.

Hezbollah said on Tuesday that resistance fighters had regained control over Komail plains as well as Hamoudi, Baidar and Shoabat al-Nihla areas on the outskirts of the northeastern border town of Arsal, located 124 kilometers (77 miles) northeast of the capital Beirut.

Terror Networks
U.S. General Tony Thomas: 2015 lead on ISIS leader al-Baghdadi 'went dead' after NY Times leak
[LI] The NY Times, The Washington Post and other major news media have been in a stiff competition to leak sensitive intelligence operational information in order to harm Donald Trump and his administration. Among other things, there have been repeated supposed intelligence community leaks disclosing the ability of U.S. intelligence to monitor conversations of the Russian ambassador with his superiors back in Russia.

This is a pattern.

When Trump had a White House meeting with the Russian ambassador, The NY Times was quick to publish that sensitive intelligence information shared with the Russians about ISIS terror threats to airplanes came from Israel. There is no evidence Trump disclosed Israel as the source. ABC News was quick to claim that Israel has penetrated ISIS’s inner circle, either through a mole or electronic means, or both. There is no evidence that Trump disclosed that to the Russians, and he certainly didn’t disclose it publicly. The NY Times did that, as did other news outlets. We don’t know if that media disclosure was true, but if it were, then the media provided ISIS with the information necessary to plug the leak.

This isn’t the first time, and the NY Times indiscretion predated Trump. In 2015 the Times disclosed that the U.S. had obtained important information as to how ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi operated and avoided tracking.

U.S. General Tony Thomas just blamed the Times disclosure for helping al-Baghdadi escape targeting. Fox News’ Catherine Herridge reports, ISIS broken, but leader slipped away due to leak, says key general:
