Afghanistan
'Decisions made' on Afghanistan and beyond, says Trump
[DAWN] US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
tweeted early Saturday that "many decisions" had been made in a meeting with his top military advisers, including on the 16-year-old war in Afghanistan.

The Trump administration, wary of international involvements but eager for progress in the grueling Afghan war, has been weighing a range of options. It had originally promised a new plan by mid-July.

On Saturday, Trump tweeted about the meeting a day earlier at the presidential retreat in Maryland, saying: "Important day spent at Camp David with our very talented Generals and military leaders. Many decisions made, including on Afghanistan." It was unclear how far-ranging those decisions might be, or when they would be announced.

But Trump is said to be dissatisfied by initial proposals to add a few thousand more troops in the country, and advisers were studying an expanded strategy for the broader South Asian region, including Pakistain.

There are now about 8,400 US and 5,000 NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A cautionary tale of cost-benefit analysis....
troops supporting Afghanistan's security forces in the fight against Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
and other bad boys. But the situation has remained as deadly as ever, with more than 2,500 Afghan police and troops killed from January 1 to May 8.

Arabia
Saudi-led war on Yemen totally failed to achieve objectives: Ansarullah leader
But Ansarullah has totally failed in their objective of conquering and skimming the relative wealth from a pacified Yemen. All either side has accomplished is to get their people killed and their things broken by the other side.
[Iran Press TV] The leader of Yemen's Ansarullah movement, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, says the Saudi-led aggressors have failed to achieve any of their political objectives in the war on Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
due to the unity and steadfastness of the nation.

During a live televised speech for a group of Yemeni commanders and tribal leaders in the capital Sana’a on Saturday, Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
underlined Ansarullah’s support for an "honorable peace" in Yemen that would guarantee the illusory sovereignty of the country, stressing that surrendering to the enemy pressures is no option for the nation.

The Ansarullah leader warned that the enemy seeks to change the result of the failed war in its favor through a new plot aimed at sowing discord among the Yemeni political factions.

Houthi said enemies seek to infiltrate the Yemeni government and buy loyalty of some officials.

He rejected speculation about efforts by Ansarullah to take control over government institutions and called on all Yemeni political factions to assume an active role in running the country’s affairs.

The Ansarullah leader underscored the need for fighting corruption and implementing reforms in Yemen’s judiciary system to "hold back traitors."

Bangladesh
Chhatra Dal leader expelled for paying tribute to Bangabandhu on FB
[Dhaka Tribune] The Central Committee of the Chhatra Dal, the student wing of the BNP, has expelled its Liberation War and Research Affairs Secretary Sardar Amirul Islam Sagar after he paid tribute to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in a Facebook post.

The status was posted on August 15 remembering the day when Bangabandhu and most of his family members were assassinated in 1975.

"Chhatra Dal President Rajib Ahsan and General Secretary Akramul Hasan took the decision as Sagar breached organization discipline," Abdus Sattar Patwari, office secretary of the BNP front wing, confirmed on Thursday (August 17).

In his Facebook, Sagar wrote: "Humble tribute to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, one of the valiant soldiers of Bangladesh’s freedom fight, on his 42nd death anniversary."

The Chhatra Dal leader faced stiff criticism from fellow party leaders and activists, prior to being expelled for the social media post paying respect to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Daesh losses in Mideast increasing UK terror threat: Minister
[Iran Press TV] Britannia’s security minister has warned that terror threat is still on the rise in the United Kingdom despite recent losses of the ISIS Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
group in Iraq and Syria.

Security Minister Ben Wallace said Europe has come under "constant attack" from terror groups, because ISIS is "collapsing in Syria and people are either unable to get out there to fight for ISIS (ISIS) and so they look to do something at home."

"I think those two things mean that the threat is to some extent increasing," he added.

ISIS has already been pushed out the northern city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
-- its main Iraqi stronghold -- which was liberated on July 10. The group has also lost large swathes of its occupied lands in Syria, and is now subject to intensive counter-terrorism operations in the city of Raqqah, which is yet to be declared free from the bad boy group.

Australian PM urges developers to design protection from vehicle attacks
[Jpost] Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull called on Sunday for developers to incorporate safety features into their projects to prevent militant attacks with vehicles and other weapons as he announced new plans to protect the public.

Turnbull unveiled Australia's first national strategy to protect crowded places, which he said was initiated after an Islamist militant drove a truck into crowds in the French city of Nice in last year, killing 84 people.

It comes days after a similar attack in the Spanish city of Barcelona killed 13 and injuring more than 100, and follows a string of similar vehicle attacks around the world.
The only defense is corollary to "Have Muslims, have terrorism" Turnbull

Europe
Catalonia BDS chapter says Europe is ‘responsible' for Barcelona attack
Catalonia’s branch of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement against Israel suggested that European governments are "responsible" for a terrorist attack in the Barcelona area.

BDS Catalonia made the accusation on Friday, a day after the Islamic State terrorist group said its militants killed in the Spanish region 14 people and wounded another 100 in two incidents in and near its capital, Barcelona.

Following a paragraph that states that BDS Catalonia "wishes to condemn the attacks committed" and to "express solidarity with the victims and their relatives," the statement asserts that "we also condemn the responsibility of European governments in what they are doing with their foreign and domestic policies, and their complicity in human rights violations worldwide."

In the only reference to terrorism in the statement, the authors wrote: "We also do not forgot the victims of military occupations, of wars and terrorism in Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestina, Lebanon, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Mali, Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso and many other places where what happened yesterday in Barcelona is a daily occurrence."

Finally, the authors added, "we emphasize our opposition to Islamophobia, Xenophobia and all forms of discrimination." Solidarity, the authors added, "is our most powerful weapon. #Barcelona."

#1  since europe welcomed the migrants without screening in some sense, europe is 'responsible' for the attack

of course, since Islamic terrorism is Islamic, that is more responsible --- most people in Spain know this but are afraid to say it

#2  Given that Spain's courts have repeatedly ruled that local and other governments adopting BDS principles is very illegal hate behaviour, I have to wonder how long it will be before the BDS movement itself is outlawed as a hate group.

Spain, France press manhunt for ringleader in dual Barcelona attacks
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Authorities in Spain and La Belle France pressed the search Saturday for the supposed ringleader of an Islamic bully boy cell that carried out vehicle attacks in Barcelona and a seaside resort, as the investigation focused on links among the Moroccan members and the house where they plotted the carnage.

Early Saturday, police searched two buses in northwest Catalonia in the hunt for any remaining members of the cell. Nothing was found in the searches in Girona and Garrigas, police tweeted.

Across the Pyrenees, French police carried out extra border checks on people coming from Spain - a routine beefing-up of patrols anytime a neighboring country flags a potential risk, a French security official said, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
. No arrests were made.

Police also announced a series of controlled kabooms Saturday in the town of Alcanar, south of Barcelona, where the attacks were planned in a rental house destroyed Wednesday by an apparently accidental blast. Authorities had initially written off the incident as a household gas accident, but took another look on Friday and returned on Saturday.

Police believe the Wednesday night blast, which killed at least one person and injured one of the people currently in jug, actually prevented a far deadlier attack using explosives, forcing the turbans to use more "rudimentary" vehicles instead.

In a tweet Saturday, Catalan police urged Alcanar residents not to be alarmed by the controlled kabooms.

Police also said tests were underway to determine if human remains found at the house on Friday were from a second victim.

In the carnage claimed by the ISIS group, a white van swerved onto Barcelona’s historic Las Ramblas pedestrian promenade Thursday afternoon, killing 13 people and injuring more than 100 as it plowed down unsuspecting tourists and locals. A few hours later, five turbans began mowing down people along the boardwalk in the seaside resort of Cambrils.

One woman died and five others were maimed before police shot and killed all five attackers. They were armed with an axe, knives and fake boom belts.

Authorities said the two attacks were related and the work of a large terrorist cell that had been plotting for a long time from the house in Alcanar, 200 kilometers (125 miles) down the coast from Barcelona.

One of the main suspects in the attacks, Younes Abouyaaquoub, a 22-year-old Moroccan, was believed to be on the lam. His name figures on a police list of four main suspects sought in the attacks. All the suspects on the list hail from Ripoll, a quiet, upscale town of 10,000 about 100 kilometers north of Barcelona.

On Friday, police searched the apartment of Ripoll’s imam, neighbors said. An apparent search warrant seen by The News Agency that Dare Not be Named authorized police to extract any terrorism-related "weapons, ammunition, explosives, instruments, documents or papers" found in the apartment.

The suspect list was issued throughout Spain and into La Belle France, according to a Spanish official and a French police official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the document.

The French official said Spain had flagged a rented Kangoo utility vehicle that was believed to have been rented in Spain by a suspect in Thursday’s attacks that might have crossed the border.

Also named on the list is 17-year-old Moussa Oukabir, whose brother Driss reported his documents stolen to police in Ripoll. Ripoll’s mayor confirmed the documents were found in one of the vehicles used in the attacks.

The brothers were born and raised in Ripoll, where the family’s first-floor apartment was searched Friday. No one was home.

Neighbors said they were shocked by the news of Moussa Oukabir’s alleged involvement. One teenager, who identified himself only by his first name, Pau, said they played together when they were younger and he was "a good boy."

In addition to the five people killed in Cambrils, police said they placed in durance vile
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
two people Friday, after the two arrests a day earlier. In custody are three Moroccans and one Spaniard, none with terrorism-related records.

"We are not talking about a group of one or two people, but rather a numerous group," regional Interior Ministry chief Joaquim Forn told Onda Cero radio.

The sheer size of the cell recalled the November 2015 attacks in Gay Paree, in which trained ISIS attackers struck the national stadium, a concert hall and bars and restaurants nearly simultaneously. Since then, the bully boy group has steadily lost ground in its self-declared caliphate in Iraq and Syria, most recently with its defeat in djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
"This shows there is no correlation between what is happening over there with ISIS and the operational capacity of the group," said Jean-Charles Brisard, a French security analyst, using another name for the group.

Spanish authorities had not yet drawn any direct links between ISIS turbans and the suspects in the Spanish attacks, but the possibility that members of the Spanish group could still be on the lam was chilling. Those who have survived prior attacks nearly always ended their lives with new bloodshed and a hail of police bullets.

"There is the danger they will not let themselves get caught and will do something dramatic," said Alain Chouet, a former French intelligence official.
Ynet adds:
The faceless myrmidons who carried out the dual vehicular attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils on Friday were apparently out to cause an even greater attack, which was seemingly scrapped due to an explosives malfunction at their lair in the town of Alcanar on Wednesday night: according to Spanish news sites, the faceless myrmidons planned on taking three trucks loaded with explosives and combustible gas and use it to destroy one of Barcelona's most recognizable symbols--the Sagrada Família church, designed by Antoni Gaudi.

Members of the terror cell planned on detonating one truck in La Rambla Boulevard, a second at Gaudi's church and a third at the city's port. To set off the trucks, they planned on using acetone peroxide--a highly-combustible kaboom also known as "the Mother of Satan." The same substance was used during the multi-site terror attack that hit London in July, 2005.

The gas kaboom in Alcanar was initially misconstrued as a domestic accident. Only later did authorities realize that the building was packed with butane canisters and including over 20 drums of gas and TATP explosives.

Initially, only one person was believed to have been killed in Wednesday's blast. But officials said DNA tests were underway to determine if human remains found there Friday were from a second victim. A police official, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
, said Sherlocks believed a Morocca holy man, Abdelbaki Es Satty, might have been the second victim of the house kaboom.

Police are now focusing on links with his Moroccan collaborators and the missing imam believed to have radicalized them. Es Satty has yet to be found, and the president of the mosque where he preached said he had not seen him since June, when he announced he was returning to Morocco for three months.

Spanish newspaper: Qatar financed extremism in Catalonia
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A Spanish newspaper revealed that Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
financed centers of Islamic worship and mosques in Spain, particularly in the province of Catalonia, where the terrorist attacks happened.

The newspaper said in its report that Doha supports the places of worship there through wealthy businessmen, which lead to the growth of the phenomenon of extremism in Spain.

The Barcelona attack, which was adopted by ISIS organization, recalls to mind earlier discussions related to the funding of mosques frequented by bandidos faceless myrmidons in Europe and its relation to terrorist attacks that claimed innocent lives.

A report published in the Spanish newspaper "La Razón" exposed the funds coming from abroad, especially from Doha to centers of worship in Spain in Catalonia, which became, according to the newspaper, a stronghold of extremism and terrorism.

Islamic centers and mosques have been under Spanish security control for years since it started receiving funding from Qatar through wealthy businessmen, the report said.

The data indicate that seven percent of Moslems in Spain, estimated at two and a half million people are based in Catalonia.

Spain has more than 1,260 Islamic worship centers, of which 256 are in Catalonia alone, where the highest numbers of immigrants colonists live.

Turku terror rampage: teen suspect is Moroccan -- just like Barcelona jihadis
[THESUN.CO.UK] A BRIT who rushed to help a women stabbed in a bloody terror attack in Finland has said he is “not a hero” – as police reveal teen suspect is Moroccan.

Two women were stabbed to death in the streets of Turku, with police revealing six others were injured, including several men who came to the aid of the victims, including a woman with a pram.

The British man suffered minor injuries after being caught up in the rampage, with police saying the 18-year-old suspect – from Morocco, like those involved in the Barcelona terror attacks – had appeared to target women.

Both women killed in the attack were Finnish, with others injured including an Italian national and two Swedes.

Superintendent Christa Granroth of Finland’s National Bureau of Investigation said: “We think that the attacker especially targeted women, and the men were wounded after coming to the defence of the women.

“One man was injured trying to help a victim and one man tried to stop the attacker.”

Eight people were injured, ranging in age from 15 to 67, with three victims still in intensive care.

Finnish police said in a statement: “The act had been investigated as murder, but during the night we received additional information which indicates that the criminal offences are now terrorist killings.”
Ynet adds:
The police placed in durance vile
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
a number of people during the night as part of their investigation.

Local media said the police raided an apartment in the eastern Turku suburb of Varissuo, which is home to a large immigrant population and located about 7 kilometers from the market square where the attack took place.

The arrested suspect had been in Finland for only a short time before the attack, Helsingin Sanomat newspaper reported. The police will hold a news conference at 1100 GMT.

Four of the maimed were still in hospital, three of them in intensive care, while the other injured persons would be sent home on Saturday, the hospital said.

The SIS has said anti-immigration groups have been on the rise in the country after it received about 32,500 asylum seekers during the migration crisis in 2015.

Spanish Police Arrests a Turkish Writer Dealing with Armenia
The link is to a paid pro Putin website, but the article itself is a translation of a Neue Zürcher Zeitung news account
[Fort-Russ.com] The Turkish-born Cologne-based writer Dogan Akhanli has been arrested, following an arrested warrant, issued by the Turkey and a Red Notice from Interpol.

Exact details are not yet know, although it has been announced that consular assistance was sought.

Akhanli has lived in Germany since his departure from Turkey in 1991 and only has a German citizenship.

What is he accused of is not exactly known either. His lawyer Ilias Uyar told the DPA that the arrest warrant had come from Turkey. This was also confirmed by the Spanish police.

Uyar told the Cologne paper Stadt-Anzeiger that the Spanish police arrested Akhanli on the grounds of a Red Notice from Interpol. Akhanli was therefore arrested on Saturday morning while being on holiday in Granada, Spain.

In his works, the 1957-born writer born also deals with the persecution of Armenians in Turkey. According to der Spiegel, Akhanli’s arrest will likely increase tensions between Berlin and Ankara.

Green Party MEP Volker Beck said that the Turkish approach was “clearly wrong.” He called on the German Foreign Minister, Sigmar Gabriel, to take immediate action for Akhanli's release.

Gabriel had traveled to Spain the previous day in the wake of terror attack that devastated Barcelona the day earlier.

“How far do we want to let Erdogan get in Europe?”, asked Katja Kipping, the head of the left-wing party, on Twitter.

The PEN writers association said the trial against Akhanli was clearly politically motivated. Its vice-president Sascha Feuchert urged the Spanish authorities not to extradit Akhanli to Turkey.

Akhanli was initially accused of having been involved in a robbery in Istanbul back in 1989. He has lived in Germany since his escape from Turkey in 1991 and is a German citizen.

In October 2011, however, he was acquitted of charges of robbery and manslaughter, although the acquittal was later lifted.

In 2010, he was arrested at an Istanbul International Airport when he wanted to enter Turkey to visit his terminally ill father. He was arrested and placed in custody, although he was pardoned on the very first day. Few days later he returned to Germany.

According to Akhanli's lawyer, the so-called Red Notice was issued against the author by Interpol.

A Red Notice is a request to locate and provisionally arrest an individual pending extradition. It is issued by the General Secretariat at the request of a member country or an international tribunal based on a valid national arrest warrant. It is, however, not an international arrest warrant.

Antifa Protester Yvette Felarca Says Violence Against The Far-Right Is ‘Not A Crime’
[DAILYCALLER] Yvette Felarca, the Berkeley area school teacher and myrmidon left-wing protester responsible for organizing the riot at the University of Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,, Berkeley in February 2017, claims that violence against the far-right is "not a crime."

Felarca, who belongs to "By Any Means Necessary," a far-left group, is currently facing assault charges after she was caught on video assaulting a white supremacist during a July 2016 rally in Sacramento, Cali.

The school teacher and her compatriots engaged in violent festivities against members of the far-right Traditional Worker’s Party, which had a permit to march in the city. The violence between the two groups resulted in a number of assaults and multiple stabbings. In July 2017, police charged Felarca with "assault by means of force likely to inflict great bodily injury, participating in a riot, and inciting a riot."

As reported by Huffington Post on Wednesday during her arraignment, Felarca described her actions as a form of self-defense, and therefore "not a crime."

"Standing up against fascism

and the rise of Nazism and fascism in this country is not a crime," she said. "We have the right to defend ourselves."

'Maarik al-Tawaiha was no murderer' family say
[Al Jazeera] Relatives of a Jordanian soldier convicted of killing three American military trainers last year are vouching for his innocence, demanding that his murder conviction be overturned.

Members of the Huwaitat tribe accuse the Jordanian government of "covering up the truth" and say officials are hiding details that should exonerate Maarik al-Tawaiha.

The 39-year-old was convicted in June of killing of three American Special Forces officers - Matthew C Lewellen, 27, Kevin J McEnroe, 30, and James F Moriarty, 27.

The three were part of a CIA programme training members of Syrian opposition groups in Jordan when they were killed at King Faisal Airbase at al-Jafr, in southern Jordan, on November 4.

Sayel Abu Tayeh, a leader of the Huwaitat tribe and a royal court adviser on tribal affairs, said in a statement early this week that Tawaiha followed the rules of engagement as he believed the base was under attack by unknown assailants.

The CIA used the King Faisal Airbase to train Syrian fighters battling the Syrian government of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Terror of Aleppo ...
The Tawaiha family's version of events that led to the shooting of the Americans is sharply in contrast with the official account of the incident.

Abu Tayeh, a close relative of Tawaiha, accused key figures in the Jordanian government of a "cover-up" and of using his relative as a "scapegoat" in order to deflect American pressure and cover their own security failure.

"What happened on that day was a mix-up that led to the tragic shooting," he said.

"We are saddened that Americans were killed in that incident, but Maarik was no murderer."

Al Jazeera could not confirm many of Abu Tayeh's claims regarding the current or former Jordanian government officials.

But Al Jazeera has obtained several Jordanian court documents, including Tawaiha's own statement and those of witnesses.

Those witnesses said they heard a gun shot being fired, without specifying by who or from where, which triggered the chain of events that later followed.

They also described a shootout between the soldiers defending the base's gate and "unknown assailants" riding in cars approaching the base and shooting at it.
