Taliban reacts at the killing of a top Al-Qaeda leader in Afghanistan
[Khaama Press] The Taliban

group has reacted at the killing of a top al-Qaeda leader in a joint Afghan and US forces operation in Afghanistan.

The group’s front man Zabiullah Mujahid issued a statement calling the killing of the bully boyz in ZZabul, Ghazni, and Paktia a propaganda.

Mujahid further added that no foreign or local bully boyz were killed during the operations in the three provinces as claimed by the security institutions.

This comes as the Afghan security authorities said Tuesday that a top leader of the al-Qaeda terrorist network has been killed along with at least 80 other bully boyz during the operations of the Afghan and US forces. The Afghan Intelligence, National Directorate of Security
...the Afghan national intel agency...
(NDS), the bully boyz were killed during the operations conducted in Ghazni, Zabul, and Paktia provinces.

According to NDS, the senior al-Qaeda leader killed during the operation has been identified as Omar Khetab who was also famous was Omar Mansoor. Khetab is among the several top al-Qaeda network leaders who have been killed during the counter-terrorism operations so far.

Africa Subsaharan
Nigeria: Army General Leading Nigeria's War Against Boko Haram Removed
[All Africa] The Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Attahiru Ibrahim, has been removed from that position.

Mr. Ibrahim's redeployment comes three days after Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
hard boyz carried out one of the deadliest attacks on Biu town in Borno where at least 18 people were killed and 52 others seriously injured.

Mr. Ibrahim, a major general, took over the command of the ongoing counterinsurgency operations in the North-east in May 2017. The former occupant of that position was Lucky Irabor who was redeployed to coordinate the Multi-National Joint Task Force, MNJTF.

Boko Haram attacks appear to have increased since Mr. Ibrahim assumed duties with scores of suicide kabooms, mostly by teenage girls, occurring between May and December.

The Chief of Army staff, Tukur Buratai, apparently unimpressed with the way the operation was going, had in August issued a rare ultimatum of '40 days' for the theatre commander to arrest the Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau
... the lunatic leader of Boko Haram who has been reported dead at least eleven times, pledged his body and soul to ISIS, told his fighters to hang it up once or twice, and been fired by the Caliph and refused to step down ...
, and put an end to the incessant Boko Haram attacks. Neither was achieved.

The hard boyz continued to stage daring attacks including on military formations.

Arabia
Exiled son of Yemen’s Saleh vows Dire Revenge™ against Houthi militia
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The powerful exiled son of Yemen’s slain ex-president former President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh
... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower, but he didn't invite Donna Summer to the inauguration and Blondie couldn't make it...
vowed on Tuesday to lead a campaign against the Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
movement that killed his father after he switched sides in the civil war.

The intervention by Ahmed Ali Saleh, a former leader of the elite Elite Republican Guard once seen as a likely successor to his father, gives the anti-Houthi movement in Sanaa a potential figurehead, after a week of fighting that saw the Houthis rout Saleh’s supporters in the capital.

In a statement sent to Rooters by an aide, his son said his father was killed at "the hands of the enemies of God and the country". Ahmed Ali said he would "confront the enemies of the homeland and humanity, who are trying to obliterate its identity and its gains and to humiliate Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
and Yemenis".

In an earlier statement carried by Saudi state media, Ahmed Ali said he would lead "the battle until the last Houthi is thrown out of Yemen ... the blood of my father will be hell ringing in the ears of Iran."

Saleh had helped the Houthis win control of much of the country’s north including Sanaa, and his decision to switch allegiances and abandon the Houthis in the past week was the most dramatic change on the battlefield in years. But the Houthis swiftly crushed a pro-Saleh uprising in the capital and shot him dead in an attack on his convoy.

Britain
Britons who join Islamic State should be hunted and killed - UK defence minister
[DailyMail] Britons who have joined the Islamic State militant group in Syria and Iraq should be hunted down and killed, Britain's new defence minister said.

Gavin Williamson said that Britons who had gone to Syria or Iraq to fight for
Islamic State hated what Britain stands for, and that air strikes could be used against the estimated 270 British citizens who are still out there.

"Quite simply my view is a dead terrorist can't cause any harm to Britain," Williamson told the Daily Mail in an interview published late on Wednesday.

"We should do everything we can do to destroy and eliminate that threat," he said, adding that he believed any British fighters who joined Islamic State should never be allowed to return to the United Kingdom.

Williamson, 41, has been defence minister for little over a month, replacing Michael Fallon after he quit in a sexual harassment scandal.

India-Pakistan
Pakistan offers conditional support to help end attacks in Afghanistan
[Khaama Press] The Pak officials have offered condition support to help end the cross-border attacks in Afghanistan by the gunnies using the Pak territory.

The officials have reportedly offered the support during a meeting with the US Secretary of Defense James Mattis during his visit to Islamabad.

Islamabad would only guarantee no attacks from its soil if the US special forces erect a fence along Pakistain-Afghan borders and also repatriates all the Afghan migrants.
A Pak official privy of the development has told the local newspaper, Pakistain Today, that Islamabad would only guarantee no attacks from its soil if the US special forces erect a fence along Pakistain-Afghan borders and also repatriates all the Afghan migrants colonists.

"The US policy of whipping Pakistain for every issue it faces should come to an end. We are not ready to be blamed for the failure of the US in Afghanistan anymore," the official said.

This comes as Islamabad is under pressure to act against the myrmidon groups using the Pak soil to carry out attacks in Afghanistan, with Washington demanding particular steps against Haqqani network and the Taliban

group leadership.

The Afghan and US officials are saying that the leaders of the two groups continue to reside in Pakistain, have freedom of action, and plan and coordinate attacks in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense said Tuesday that the Secretary of State during his meeting with the Pak officials emphasized on the vital role that Pakistain can play in working with the United States and others to facilitate a grinding of the peace processor in Afghanistan that brings stability and security to the region.

"The Secretary reiterated that Pakistain must redouble its efforts to confront gunnies and hard boyz operating within the country," Pentagon said.

Pakistan says actions taken against all terror groups including Haqqani network

[Khaama Press] Pak officials are saying that the country’s military has taken actions against all terror groups including the notorious Haqqani terrorist network.

According to the officials familiar with the recent meeting with the US defense secretary James Mattis, Islamabad has also shared information with the US delegation regarding the counter-terrorism steps in this regard.

A Pak official speaking on the condition of anonymity has told the Pak Today newspaper that Secretary Mattis inquired regarding the Haqqani terrorist network during his meeting with the Pak officials.

"Pakistain submitted details of some of its recent actions against the hard boyz of all hue and colour, telling the US officials that no terrorist would be spared under Pakistain’s policy of indiscriminate action against terrorists," the official said.

The official further added that "We told the US officials that around 70,000 Afghans cross over through nine border crossings on a daily basis, which makes it impossible to identify each and every individual crossing the border."

Iraq
Iraq gets millions in EU, U.K. aid for reconstruction, demining
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Iraq is getting millions more of euros and pound sterlings from the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
and the United Kingdom for reconstruction and demining purposes as international donors continue efforts to address the dilemma of millions displaced by the war against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
Iraqi Planning Minister Salman al-Jumaili said he signed Wednesday with European Union representatives an agreement for EU funding of reconstruction and demining projects worth EUR60.4 million. He said in a presser following the signature of the deal that the projects aim at restoring stability and the repatriation of civilians at areas recaptured from Death Eaters.

"The European Union, with the contribution of a number of donors (Denmark, Finland, Italia, Japan, Estonia and the United Kingdom) will provide a financial grant worth EUR60.4 million for the implementation of those two projects".

The package includes EUR50.4 million for reviving economic activity, rehabilitating infrastructure and supporting small-sized enterprises at liberated areas, said the minister. The remaining EUR10 million will address explosives contamination at those areas, he added.

In a separate declaration, the UK embassy in Iraq said "Next year the UK will provide £30 million to help restore livelihoods, essential infrastructure and basic services in Iraq, including to support displaced communities to return safely to liberated areas".

It added that at least £20 million will also be provided in humanitarian aid "to help deliver urgent life-saving assistance like food, shelter & access to clean water, taking the UK’s total humanitarian contribution in Iraq to £229.5 million since 2014.

It is not, however, clear whether the amounts announced by the embassy were separate from the EU grant. Signed with the government.

FULL SPEECH: Trump recognizes Jerusalem as Israel's capital
[Ynet] The following is the text of an address made by President Donald Trump announcing the recognition by the United States of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
The eleven minute video can be seen at the link, for those who prefer to watch and listen.
Thank you. When I came into office, I promised to look at the world’s challenges with open eyes and very fresh thinking. We cannot solve our problems by making the same failed assumptions and repeating the same failed strategies of the past. Old challenges demand new approaches.

My announcement today marks the beginning of a new approach to conflict between Israel and the Palestinians.

#4  On the ground they're a strategic deterrent.
In the air (if it can fly) it's a long range, small RCS, ordinance platform.

#5  It is a flying iPhone that is basically a platform for a logistics software that became the tail wagging the dog.

Instead of perfecting its capabilities as a tactical fighter they spent most of their time working on this vast real time maintenance and repair software. Truth be known, the techies forgot what they were supposed to be doing, i.e., they forgot it was an airplane and not a computer.

#7  The F-35 prototype was an excellent aircraft.

The development that was directed by the program office spent billions on the logistics software.

I have no doubt that in the right hands, the F-35 can be a fine tactical aircraft.
I just don't like how much money was wasted on software when the aircraft was supposed to be where the money was spent.

#9  Woodrow, the whole "dogfighting" report was due to slanted reporting about some flight tests that weren't supposed to be dogfights in the first place and involved a test airframe where the engine throttle and angle of attack were limited in software. (Facts that were not only left out of the report, but where they tried very hard in the report to imply that this was not the case). Every time I point this out, noone actually replies to me, but they go away and then come back later with the same argument.

If they were being honest, they wouldn't have a need for such tactics.

#11  It is a semi-stealthy F/A fighter bomber design. So saying it is inferior to an F-16 is akin to that story (Saburo Sakai) about how a Chinese biplane drove a group of Japanese pilots flying Claudes nuts with his aerobatics -- they still shot him down.
It would be more fruitful to argue whether we need more "pure" fighters.
Posted by: magpie || 12/07/2017 13:13 Comments || Top||

#12  I suspect part of the problem is that software developers are paid bonuses or even just paid (get to keep their jobs) based on how many lines of code they write in some time frame.

I read a while ago that some brass was bragging that there were several million lines of code in some small function on the F-35.

I would rather brag about how few lines of code there is, leading to rapid response.

Most of the code is likely mostly garbage code, written solely for the purpose of meeting some performance goal and doesn't do anything except slow down the function its supposed to do, it just there to take up space.

That may be part of the problem, IMO, the best code is to write as few lines of code as possible to get the job done elegantly.

This is what happens when management gets involved in the design and construction of a project.

Posted by: Raj || 12/07/2017 14:23 Comments || Top||

#14  Umm ... the B1B has millions of lines of code in it.

The B2 has at least 10x that much.

Neither was intended to be what the F35 is - a platform rather than a closed-capability plane alone.
Posted by: Knuckles Slineger2610 || 12/07/2017 14:43 Comments || Top||

#15  And if you've never developed, tested and deployed the kinds of real-time, high performance extensible code that exists in all 3 of those planes, you really, really, really aren't in a position to judge its success.

What you are complaining about is the core concept of that plane, not (primarily) its execution to date.

And yes, I've been involved in such things. And no, I don't have any work of my own in this one to defend.
Posted by: Knuckles Slineger2610 || 12/07/2017 14:45 Comments || Top||

#16  I have been highly critical of the F-35 and have not been a huge fan until I could see it in action.

Now that it actually has gone force on force with other planes from several countries I am happy to start embracing the fighter. Used in conjunction with our F-22, F-15s and 16s it is a lethal beast. Being able to communicate with pretty much anything we have and being able to transmit a "God on High" to all allied forces, while staying hidden and able to pick targets off on its own is a real game changer.

While far from a perfect weapons platform, it is an almost perfect information sharing platform for a mobile and chaotic air/ground battle space. A true fighter for the information age.

I hope the people that plan and buy equipment learned a lesson in this expensive and painful development and apply it well to the B-21 that is being developed and from the limited info we have heard, they are.

Next step is unmanned fighter swarms with manned aircraft, like the F-35 directing the action.

Except the Growler can still out fly the E-35 "Flying Turkey". Possibly out fight as well.

Yes the B1 and B2 can apparently only fly in a straight line, but they're bombers, so it's okay. (maybe)

The poor single pilot is going to suffer from information overload.

I'm thinking the F-35 should be called the "F-35 Murphy's Laws).

228 men in northern Raqqa forced to join Kurdish ranks
[ALMASDARNEWS] Since the beginning of 2017, thousands of people have been rounded up and recruited by the US-backed ’Syrian Democratic Forces’ as the Kurdish-led militia looks to beef up its manpower by enrolling local combat-ready men and women.

With large swaths of northern Syria under its control, a batch of 228 fighters joined the predominately Kurdish group on Wednesday morning.

The recruits graduated from the so-called ’Martyr Faysal Abu Layla Academy’ and had received ideological and military training before swearing an oath of allegiance to the SDF. All new SDF conscripts were men originating from the northern countryside of Raqqa.

SDF commander Mihemed Îmad attended the ceremony and spoke fondly of the SDF’s role on the battlefield as a leading counter-terrorism contingent, emphasising its fight against ISIS as well as what he called "Ottoman Turkish-backed gangs".

Although repeatedly denied by the SDF leadership, the group has been accused of forcibly recruiting people in areas under its control with multiple reports of underaged fighters joining the YPG as well.

ISIS begins mass retreat from Syria, Iraq to Egypt, rest of North Africa
[ALMASDARNEWS] Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
forces of Evil in Syria and Iraq are beginning to withdraw in great numbers from Syria and Iraq to Egypt and other North African countries following a series of major defeats throughout the Levant which has seen them lose their core territorial base.

Over the last several days, both Ottoman Turkish and Kurdish media outlets and social media sources have begun reporting that Islamic State Death Eaters are making their way across Syria with the aim of reaching North Africa.

Naturally, both Ottoman Turkish and Kurdish media blames the other side for this event.

Whilst there can be no doubt that ISIS fighters are being covertly assisted by outside powers and/ or other gangs in Syria, who is responsible for this is no longer relevant at this point.

That both Ottoman Turkish and Kurdish sources ‐ inherently opposed on geopolitical matters and constantly trying to contradict the claims of one another ‐ report that ISIS has begun such move most likely means that it is in fact taking place.

The reports coincide with an alleged statement by Islamic State leader His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...the head of ISIS, or what remains of it, and a veteran of the Abu Graib jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us. So far he has been killed at least four times, though not yet by a stake through the heart...
from about one week ago whereby he called on his fighters to gather in southern Libya and prepare to attack countries throughout North Africa in order to make up for Islamic State territorial losses in the Levant.

North Africa would appear to be the most logical regrouping point for Middle East-based ISIS forces of Evil who wish to continue fighting, considering its proximity to their current battlegrounds, the geopolitical climate of the region which is highly susceptible exploitation by non-state gangs and the existence of long-standing underground infrastructures that can assist them getting there.

With Deir Ezzor nearly finished, elite Syrian Army division shifts attention to Idlib
[ALMASDARNEWS] The battle to liberate the entire province of Deir Ezzor from the so-called Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) is nearly finished; however, a large chunk of northwest Syria is still controlled by jihadist groups like Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
and Harakat Ahrar al-Sham
...a Syria jihadi group made up of Islamists and salafists, not that there's that much difference, formed into a brigade. They make up the main element of the Islamic Front but they don't profess adoration of al-Qaeda and they've been fighting (mainly for survival) against the Islamic State. Their leadership was wiped out at a single blow by a suicide kaboom at a crowded basement meeting in September, 2014...
.

With Idlib almost entirely controlled by the jihadist rebels, the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) High Command has made the decision to redeploy their elite Tiger Forces division to the neighboring Hama Governorate.

Backed by the Qalamoun Shield and 4th Division, the Tiger Forces will make a big push from the northern Hama town of Ma’an in order to capture nearby Abu Dali, which has an important crossroad located inside of it.

Once Abu Dali is recaptured, the Tiger Forces will advance towards the strategic Abu Dhuhour Military Airport in the eastern countryside of Idlib.

The Abu Dhuhour Military Airport was seized by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (previously Jabhat al-Nusra
...formally Jabhat an-Nusrah li-Ahli al-Sham (Support Front for the People of the Levant), also known as al-Qaeda in the Levant. They aim to establish a pan-Arab caliphate. Not the same one as the Islamic State, though .. ...
and Jabhat Fateh al-Sham
...formerly al-Nusra, the current false nose and mustache of al-Qaeda in the Levant, now something else...
) during a large offensive in 2015; it has become the jihadist group’s most important base in eastern Idlib.

Iran says Trump's al-Quds move to spark another Palestinian Intifada
[PRESSTV] Iran has strongly condemned US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s decision to move his country’s embassy in Israel to Jerusalem al-Quds, saying the measure will ignite a new Paleostinian Intifada (uprising).

In a Wednesday night statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said Washington’s recognition of Jerusalem al-Quds as Israel’s capital is a "blatant violation of international resolutions."

"The Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran has always stressed that the most important reason behind instability and insecurity in the Middle East is [Israel’s] continued occupation, the US’ relentless support for the Zionist regime, and denying the oppressed Paleostinian nation the right to establish an independent state with al-Quds as it capital," the statement said.

Describing the US move as "provocative and unwise," the Iranian Foreign Ministry warned that "recognizing al-Quds as the Israeli regime’s capital" will "provoke Moslems and inflame a new Intifada and intensify extremism and violent behavior for which the US and the Israeli regime will be responsible."

The statement also called on the international community to pressure the US not to go through with the embassy move or the recognition of Jerusalem al-Quds as the Israeli regime's capital.

The statement was issued shortly after Trump officially declared the disputed city of Jerusalem al-Quds as Israel's capital, despite warnings from around the world that the measure risks triggering a fresh wave of violence in the Middle East.

In a speech at the White House earlier in the day, Trump said his administration would also begin a years-long process of moving the American embassy in Tel Aviv to the holy city.

The announcement was a major shift by Washington that overturns decades of US foreign policy.

Terror Networks
Muslim Brotherhood ‘masquerades’ in the mainstream
[ARABNEWS] The doctrine of the Moslem Brüderbund is far closer to the krazed killer ideology espoused by ISIS than the religious mainstream, said a report released today.

The Moslem Brüderbund’s "use of scripture, scholarship, and content is demonstrably distant from mainstream Islam," said the "Struggle Over Scripture" research study released by the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change.

Using natural language processing tools, expert analysis and machine learning techniques, the study scanned over 3,000 documents from krazed killer and mainstream Moslem sources, including brochures, books and articles by scholars.

It found that only eight percent of the 50 most quoted Koranic verses in what was described as "Salafi-jihadi" material used by extreme groups, were prevalent in mainstream texts.

Milo Comerford, who co-authored the report with Rachel Bryson, said that Death Eaters were "much more likely" to quote parts of the Qur’an that centered on the "creation of a caliphate and rally for military jihad" than mainstream Moslems.

Comerford told Arab News: "The Moslem Brüderbund and ’ISIS’ both view Islam through a political lens. They share an ideology that promotes Islam as an exclusive guider. The idea of a caliphate appears in both ’ISIS’ and Moslem Brüderbund texts."

Dr. Emman El-Badawy, head of research, Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, said: "The ideology of the Moslem Brüderbund and other Islamist groups directly undermines efforts of the mainstream majority to assert a positive and peaceful Islam, at ease with the modern world."

She added: "The politicized Islamism of such groups projects a sense of division, anger, sectarianism and conflict. The vast majority of Moslems who worship freely in the West or happily mix with those of other religions in Moslem majority countries, totally reject this extreme interpretation of their faith."

El-Badawy continued: "The evidence now shows that there is considerable ideological overlap in how Islamic scripture is used by Islamists, like the Moslem Brüderbund, and violent jihadists, such as ISIS and al-Qaeda.

"The fact remains that krazed killer voices have had an impact on Islam that is wildly disproportionate to their numbers, and their distortions as traced in this report, must be uprooted."

The report found that religious "counter-narratives" are currently failing to tackle the key arguments peddled by krazed killers, only taking on 16 percent of the scriptural references prominently used by "Salafi-jihadis."

Extreme interpretations of scripture are completely at odds with mainstream Islamic readings ‐ and central mainstream tenets, such as fasting, prayers, and preaching, are relegated in krazed killer texts in favor of violence, it said.

The report recommended that policy makers should robustly affirm universal values such as pluralism, the rule of law, religious freedom, and gender equality that are under attack from krazed killers. This will ensure that the battle against krazed killer ideas is not against mainstream religious belief, it said.

#2  "Content is demonstrably distant from mainstream Islam?" I'm calling complete BS on this arabnews article. Pure flagrant whitewashing of Islamic fundamentalism.

2 side notes: Twin Cities Channel 9 last night decided to quote the Muslim Brotherhood child CAIR over the Donald's Israel capital announcement. Something Channel 5 has been doing for several years.

Also all of a sudden google dome chrome is marking CAIR as misspelling of CARE. Hum.
