[WASHINGTONTIMES] A New York City hot dog vendor caught on camera selling $30 hot dogs outside the World Trade Center could reportedly face up to $1,500 in fines after police handed him three summonses on Wednesday.
Ahmed Mohammed was ticketed for being too close to a crosswalk, having items outside his cart and failure to list prices, police sources told the New York Post. Food vending fines generally range from $200 to $500 per ticket, the Post reported.
"What? A $30 hot dog?! We paid him a visit. 3 ECB summonses. #PostYourPrices #WeWillBeBack," the NYPD 1st Precinct tweeted Wednesday.
How much was the mustard?
It was because of Mr. Mohammed's failure to display his prices that allowed him to charge whatever he wanted, resulting in angry customers handing over as much as $20 and $30 for what's meant to be a cheap snack for pedestrians on the go.
"Thanks for paying him a visit and issuing 3 summonses," Jessica Lappin of the Alliance for Downtown tweeted at the NYPD on Thursday.
Ms. Lappin learned about Mr. Mohammed last week after fights started to break out in the street over his prices, a local NBC affiliate reported.
NBC cameras recently camped out at the vendor's stand and captured the price of a hot dog changing by the minute: $3 for some, $30 for others. When confronted by NBC, Mr. Mohammed claimed he didn't speak English, despite video evidence that he speaks and understands English just fine.
On Thursday, his boss, Abdelalim Abdelbaky, told the Post that Mr. Mohammed was fired for pocketing hundreds of dollars he made from overcharging customers.
"I fired him over it yesterday after I watched the news," Mr. Abdelbaky said. "He told me he charged the people $2 a hot dog. He lied to me."

Wasting police resources on this? Stupid. Publicity put him out, and that's all that was needed.
A man miraculously survived being shot near his home with a sawn-off shotgun when his iPhone took the brunt of the blast. The victim's iPhone took the majority of the blast from the shotgun.

The 25-year-old victim sustained serious injuries to his abdomen but managed to get up and head back to his block of flats where emergency services were called.
Ryan Duggan, 19, has been found guilty of attempted murder at Chester Crown Court. He was also found guilty of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and is due to be sentenced on 10 July.
The incident took place when the victim approached a group of teenagers who had turned of the water supply to the block of flats where he lived. During a confrontation, the teenager pulled out the shotgun and fired it at the victim. The firearm was later recovered by police wrapped in clingfilm and concealed under a bush - with the spent cartridge still inside.
Detective Inspector Gary McIntyre from Cheshire Police said if the victim's phone had not been in his pocket "he would undoubtedly have died".
And try getting your iPhone repaired after that...

The shootings in Waco last weekend appear to be the work of the police.
Originally the paid media said that the story was a fight among bikers took place inside a commercial establishment, then spilled to the outside before the lead started to fly.
The folks at Western Rifle Shooters Association have discussed the provenance of the death, and the general consensus is that the bikers were let into a kill zone set up by police before they opened fire.
Writers at Lew Rockwell have suggested that government informants set up the whole thing, that unnamed government officials were hoping for some kind of crackdown in Texas, given the Jade Helm military exercises due to begin in June.
By one account, one of the bikers discharged a rifle or a long gun of some kind at another biker, presumably before the cops weighed in, but that was the only report of a rifle used by the bikers.
One thing I have learned about conspiracy theories is that no one is as evil, as good or as competent as the elements of any one conspiracy would suggest, especially when it comes to law enforcement.
So for now, the shootings appear to be what they are: bikers gathered at a commercial location, so that the cops, including police snipers could keep a close eye, so that at the moment weapons of any kind appeared, the cops could open fire. Whether their kill list consists of four or nine, it appears the cops stopped things from getting out of hand.
How close that is to the truth, I don't know. I just know I wouldn't want to be the Barney who has to detain 100-plus big bad biker men without some kind of intense fire support.

[BBC] The Bank of England has confirmed it is researching the financial risks of the UK leaving the EU after it "inadvertently" sent details of its work to a national newspaper.
A senior official sent an email about its confidential project on the issue to an editor at the Guardian newspaper.

Nearly 100 women and children have passed through the clinic since it began eight months ago. Well, at least that part is not a flood - one every two-and-a-half days.
An asylum application must be based on a well-founded fear of persecution because of race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership in a social group.
Advocates for the Central American children believe they qualify because they are in an age group that places them at risk of gang violence, recruitment or exploitation. Good thing we got all those American cases cleared up, so there is no more risk of gang violence. Like in Ferguson or Baltimore. Or Detroit. LA. Chicago. New York. DC. Et cetera.
They believe the law has been interpreted too narrowly regarding the youths.
Many of the the children have to represent themselves ‐ pro se in legal terms ‐ in their quest for asylum. They have no right to a government-paid attorney for civil deportation proceedings. Some find private attorneys who will work for free. In some cases, their parents or guardians find the money to hire an attorney.
About a third of the unaccompanied children in the federal immigration courts in 2014 had attorneys. Without lawyers, they have little chance to remain legally in the U.S. Lawyers. The only winners in this game. Gotta have 'em to stay; gotta have 'em to get deported.

[CNBC] Finland has informed its 900,000 military reservists of what their roles would be in the event of a military crisis against a backdrop of rising tensions between Russia and its neighbors.
The letters campaign by the Finnish army has ostensibly been carried out to "keep in touch" with its reservists, the Finnish Defense Ministry said on its website, and reservists have been asked to update their personal details that the army holds for them.
The letters have been sent as a result of "an extensive reform starting in 2008 affected the task of many reservists and the Defense Forces contacted the reservists to inform them what their individual role would be should Finland enter a conflict," the military's website noted.
The timing of the letters that has raised eyebrows, however, as relations between Russia and its neighbor Finland sour.

This is the proper graphic to use for talking about the Finnish Armed Forces.
They have had troops active in ISAF since the early days, rotating through commanders, SF, and infantry in Company sized amounts.

One other thing to consider is that the FInnish Navy is set up for one main thing: putting up naval mines. North end of the Baltic could get pretty nasty in a hurry if they wanted to do that. And that would hurt Russia pretty badly.

I wonder if NATO is dusting off the old NORDKAPP exercises? I recall in the 80's one of our Cav squadrons (USAEUR) going up there to play with the Marines in Norway, just to see if we could mobilize and swing a Cav squadron (Battalion for you leg types) that far that fast, Abrams and Bradleys and a bit of integral artillery plus an SP Howitzer battery. And then operate in those conditions. And the answer back then was "Yes we can"
