Japanese firm apologize US WWII veterans
These were real slaves in our lifetime, not something that ended over 200 years ago. A few are still alive. It was a segregated army, so the 'desperate impact' fell upon whites, not your usual victim class. You'll never hear this story in the indoctrinations in our public schools that passes for 'studies'.

Congo looks to insect farming in fight against hunger
[ARABNEWS] There is no shortage of protein in Kinshasa's Gambela Market, from cows to antelope and snakes. But it is the blue and silver bowls brimming with twitching crickets, termites and slithering mealworms that do the briskest trade.

Experts hope that the love of edible insects in Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
may hold the key to tackling widespread hunger among its roughly 65 million people by scaling up a millennia-old consumption habit.

Six-and-a-half million people live in food insecurity in the giant central African country, according to the World Food Program (WFP), largely due to low agricultural productivity and persistent violence in its volatile east.

Edible insects, which are just starting to win acceptance in the West, have long been one of Congo's most popular dishes. Often served as bar food or on special occasions, they are grilled and commonly served with hot pepper, lemon and onions.

"This is the main food of Congolese," said Marie-Colette Bena, who sells clothing at the market, "I'm proud to eat that food." The average household in the capital Kinshasa consumes about 300 grams of caterpillar a week, according to a UN study but insect supplies can be seasonal and are generally more expensive than other types of food. In Kinshasa a kg of crickets costs about $50, more than twice the price of beef.

Congo's Environment Ministry and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) hope to capitalize on Congo's affinity for the crunchy fare with a new programme to promote insect cultivation, a plan that could make them more widely available and bring down prices.

Russian prosecutor sez Czar's abdication was illegal
Crimean Prosecutor Natalia Poklonskaya said that the document of abdication of Nicholas II from the throne lacked a legal force. Such a statement she made at the ceremony of unveiling a monument to the last emperor of the Romanov House in Livadia.

"This is a copy paper, signed in pencil, without complying with all necessary legal and procedural procedures, forms, so this paper does not carry any legal force. All this is well understood ", - said the prosecutor.

Poklonskaya also drew an analogy with some attempts to rewrite the history of the Great Patriotic War. She emphasized that the document was signed by Nicholas II in the history books is "presented as alleged abdication."

#4  By extension, iff the Royals get wiped out by Islamist-Jihadist Terror, Russia will have a legit or credible claim to the throne of Britain

Russia doesn't have the Romanovs anymore. The last sprigs of the family live in Paris and New York, as I recall, and seem remarkably unsuited to either reign or rule, though perhaps the younger generation has developed skills other than pretentions to the throne. Nor can I imagine Russia successfully enticing the head of the family to move back to Moscow, given the proclivities of the current ruler.

As for the abdication being legal or not, the fact is that the Russian branch of the family was slaughtered, so it was certainly a de facto removal from power, if not de jure -- and with centuries of historical precedent, both at home and abroad.

#5  Perhaps old spook is on to something. The idea of a permanent monarch like Western European democracies, but with real power and a puppet Prime Minister.... so perhaps the idea is to paper his way to the top and enable his plan for Imperium to be legitimized?

Europe
"Subsidizing Scroungers" - The Germans knew how Europe would end back in 1997
[Zero Hedge] In 1997, Arnulf Baring (of the German-British family of Baring bankers) unleashed the following 'Nostradamus'-like prediction of how the euro would end (from a German perspective)...

"They will be subsidizing scroungers, lounging in cafes on the Mediterranean beaches.

Monetary union, in the end, will result in a gigantic blackmailing operation.

When we Germans demand monetray discipline, other countries will blame their financial woes on that same discipline, and by extension, on us. More they will perceive us as a kind of economic policeman.

We risk once again becoming the most hated people in Europe."

It appears that Arnulf pretty much 'nailed it'.

Healthcare.gov Boss Hired as Lobbyist
The official who spearheaded the disastrous rollout of HealthCare.gov is now a top lobbyist for the health-insurance industry. Marilyn B. Tavenner was chosen Wednesday as president and chief executive of America's Health Insurance Plans, a trade group that includes companies like Aetna, Humana, Kaiser Permanente, and Blue Cross. Tavenner will assume her new position Aug. 24.

"This is a great opportunity," Tavenner said. "AHIP has a longstanding reputation as focused on consumers and consumer advocacy, and being a leader in the transformation of health care."

Family disowns former blasphemy accused but not his wealth
[DAWN] The family of a wealthy old man, accused and later acquitted of blasphemy charges, has approached a civil court of Rawalpindi, seeking ownership of Rs127 million worth of saving and income certificates.

Seventy-year-old Dr Iftikhar Ahmed Sheikh was booked for blasphemy in December 2012 after a complaint was lodged against him by his nephew Usman Rashid Sheikh, at the Industrial Area Police Station. Dr Sheikh was accused of authoring books in 2001 with alleged blasphemous content.

Before his nephew lodged the complaint, Dr Sheikh had reportedly served a Rs5 billion notice to his nephew in a civil matter. Additional district and sessions judge Rafaqat Awan acquitted Dr Sheikh on February 2, 2013 from the blasphemy charges.

Following the acquittal, Dr Sheikh along with his family members sought asylum in the United States citing threat to his life as the reason, but his asylum case was not finalised as his children refused to go with him.

His wife, two daughters and son have now petitioned before the civil court in Rawalpindi, seeking ownership of saving and income certificates worth Rs127 million. According to the petition, Dr Sheikh is a millionaire with "different properties, cash deposits in foreign banks in US and UAE, and he owns regular income certificates and special saving certificates under his name".

The petition claimed that since his children and wife do not agree with Dr Sheikh's opinions, they refused to seek asylum with him anywhere as this would be akin to supporting his past blasphemous views.

#2  Another thing women are challenged at: climbing the 30 meters Pointe du Hoc ion order to destroy guns who could have converted the landings at Omaha Beach from bloody success to bloody failure. While the politically correctr is "waht was needed was string persons" the fact is last time I looked the women's heavy weight world record for weight lifting is about half from the men light weight world record. In other words a man half her weight was lifting about a load tow times heavier. In other words there are hundreds of thousand men in the world who can lift a heavier load than the woman world record.

So for climbing Piinte du Hoc, thousands of Americans could have with due trining climbed it. How many woimen? How many womenin the whole United States who in addition to climbing Pointe du Hoc could have met basic military requirements like being ablte to run fast, walk 40 miles ijn day (Wight lifters can't) and shoot reasonably straight?

And if landings at Omaha Beacjh had failed the whole D-Day would have been a failure and another landing would have been need in 1945...

#5  Anyone watch women's world cup? Now of you, did you catch a men's Gold Cup game (I saw USA/PAN)?

Night and day. I'm not just talking about the speed, but the tactics. The men ran a 5 yard triangle offense all the way down the field - didn't see anything like it in the entire women tourney.

#7  Back in the old Roman Republic, senators had to accompany a legion. If the legion got destroyed, so did the senators. Nice QA. Time to make a list of all the hacks and bureaucrats involved. The day the balloon goes up, a team will pick the a*holes up and escort them to the front to be with their newly designed diversity units in a real world environment.
