-Lurid Crime Tales-
Columbus, Indiana Churches Attacked By Islamic Vandals
Sometime on Saturday night, vandals attacked three Christian houses of worship in Columbus, Indiana, spray-painting the word "infidels" and citations of verses from the Koran on the outer walls. St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Lakeview Church of Christ, and East Columbus Christian Church all had the word "infidels" spray-painted on them, in places of prominence to be seen by worshipers.
48-hour rule, folks. Let the investigators do their jobs.
Cited in the Indianapolis Star, Columbus police spokesperson Matt Harris said that church employees discovered the vandalism when they arrived to prepare for Sunday services.

At St. Bartholomew, the words "Qur'an 3:151" were also left.

That verse reads:
We will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve for what they have associated with Allah of which He had not sent down [any] authority. And their refuge will be the Fire, and wretched is the residence of the wrongdoers.

Speaking to WTHR, Channel 13, the Columbus NBC affiliate, associate pastor Father Doug Marcotte said, "It is certainly not a warm and fuzzy verse. It talks about the infidels, their refuge being the fire."

There was no Koran verse painted on the Lakeview Church but "Qu'ran 19:88" was left on East Columbus Christian Church. That verse begins a phrase, which, in its entirety (19:88 to 93), says:

None will have the power of intercession save he who has received a promise from the Gracious God. And they say, "The Gracious God has taken unto Himself a son."

Assuredly, you have done a most monstrous thing. The heavens might well-nigh burst thereat, and the earth cleave asunder, and the mountains fall down in pieces. Because they ascribe a son to the Gracious God. Whereas it becomes not the Gracious God to take unto Himself a son.

Said Father Marcotte, "Is there somebody that really believes this, that we're all infidels, so they felt the need to write it all over our church? Is this some sort of a nasty prank? Is this someone that's trying to incite people against Muslims? I mean, I don't know."

Quoted by Fox59.com, Columbus resident Nassim Khaled, who volunteers at the local Islamic Center, said, "We condemn this, and I read the verse, most importantly what it showed me is the ignorance, who actually misquoted or misinterpreted the Koran."
Taqqiya. I'm sure that, nonetheless, the local Islamic Center will send members to scrub it off, thus demonstrating how thoroughly they reject the sentiment.
According to WTHR, Columbus police wouldn't comment on whether federal authorities had been contacted, but at least one of the churches has surveillance video that may offer clues.

#3  agree with 48 hour rule but maybe should be more like 96 hours

it could be non muslims imitation of jihad

however, notwithstanding the moslem who said these were misquotes - they weren't even quotes just references - unless you know the koran by heart you'd have to look these up

#6  Attacked By Islamic Vandals

Vandals were not Islamic. So some Goths have one big night on the town and get carried away in Rome in 410, but no one lets you forget about it. Conquer most of Spain a couple of centuries later in a religious war of conversion and your name doesn't become synonymous with looting and destruction?

Arabia
Saudi religious policeman beat up Briton; wife slaps back on face
[Al Ahram] Members of Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
's inquisitors religious police roughed up a British resident of Riyadh after they caught him paying at a women-only cash desk, local media reported on Monday.

Saudi Arabia imposes a strict interpretation of Islamic laws, notably a segregation of the sexes.

A short video posted on YouTube on Sunday shows a member of the inquisitors religious police jump out of his car and attack the Briton, who was accompanied by a woman in a black abaya cloak who defended him.

"That's my wife, how dare you!" the Briton is heard shouting in the video.

Al-Hayat newspaper, quoting witnesses, said the inquisitors religious police had stopped the man in a supermarket after he had paid a female cashier.

The Briton replied that he was accompanied by his wife.

Only women are allowed to pay at females-only cash desks in the kingdom. A man accompanied by female family members can stop at such desks so long as a woman deals with the cashier.

After he left the supermarket, inquisitors religious police agents filmed his car, and he responded by doing the same, Al-Hayat said.

A heated exchange followed as he refused to hand over his camera to the agents, who "attacked and pushed him to the ground," according to witnesses cited by the daily.

The Briton, a convert to Islam, is a longtime resident of the kingdom and married to a Saudi woman, according to Al-Hayat, which said he was finally driven away in a British embassy car.

The inquisitors religious police, named the Commission of the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice and known unofficially as Mutawaa, have opened an investigation, Al-Hayat said.

Commission members enforce a strict segregation of the sexes and have traditionally forced women to cover from head to toe when in public.

They also patrol shops to make sure they are shuttered during prayer times.

The inquisitors religious police have been accused of abusing their powers.

But since January 2013, the inquisitors religious police have become more discreet after the appointment of a new chief, holy man Abdulatif bin Abdulaziz al-Sheikh, who banned the use of unmarked cars.

#2  Bugger all, Inshallah. But what can you expect from a religion which prays with its butt in the air?

Can I say the word "Butt" and the word Allah in the same sentence? Is that still PC and totally Religion of Peace? I wouldn't want to offend any Moslems...or anyone named Hussein...or Abdrool or Muckmud. The Crusaders use to call a certain individual Mahound.
But that was in the 12th century....

#3  Can I say the word "Butt" and the word Allah in the same sentence?

Dunno, Poodle-Noodle, old fruit. Let's see...

Mahound likes to sniff Allah's butt, but
He can't get a drop of that rotgut.
He fiddles and yearns
And he whines and he burns...
Two hogsheads remain in that butt, shut.

So, can we? Man proposes, Fred disposes.

Also, who the hell has been hiding Chesterton's Lepanto from me all these years? Wow!

#4  An excellent work. Thank you for the read. I, mice elf, prefer the following, as it cuts to the chase...as is me wont:

There will be no Peace

W. H. Auden

(Written in 1956)

Though mild clear weather
Smile again on the shore of your esteem
And its colours come back, the storm has changed you:
You will not forget, ever,
The darkness blotting out hope, the gale
Prophesying your downfall.

You must live with your knowledge.
Way back, beyond, outside of you are others,
In moonless absences you never heard of,
Who have certainly heard of you,
Beings of unknown number and gender:
And they do not like you.

What have you done to them?
Nothing? Nothing is not an answer:
You will come to believe - how can you help it? -
That you did, you did do something;
You will find yourself wishing you could make them laugh,
You will long for their friendship.

There will be no peace.
Fight back, then, with such courage as you have
And every unchivalrous dodge you know of,
Clear on your conscience on this:
Their cause, if they had one, is no thing to them now;
They hate for hate's sake.

Fidel Castro compares NATO to Nazis, lashes out at U.S.
[Japan Times] HAVANA -- Cuban ex-President Fidel Castro lashed out at the United States and Europe on Monday, accusing them of war-mongering and comparing the NATO military alliance's representatives to the Nazi SS.

In a tortuous column published in Cuban state media, the father of the island's communist revolution also attacked U.S. Sen. John McCain over United States policy in the Middle East, calling him "Israel's most unconditional ally."

"The world has seen no respite in recent years, particularly since the European Economic Community, under the strict and unconditional leadership of the United States, decided the time had come to settle scores with what was left of two great nations (Russia and China) that ... had carried out the heroic deed of putting an end to the imperialist colonial order imposed on the world by Europe and the United States," said the 88-year-old leader.

#3  A lot of these units appear to be from places like Chechnya, Dagestan and Ossetia. Are the troops themselves from those regions? If so, what does that mean? Didn't he follow a similar pattern in Georgia?

Every military district can field around 350 combat aircraft, if they are fully mobilized.

Additionally, you have to consider Russian Air Defense Command (PVO) which is a separate branch, which fields both ground antiaircraft means and interceptor aircraft necessary to defeat air threats.

Also additionally, you have to consider naval aviation, some of which is based at Sevastopol, and others in ponds such as the Caspian.

I have no hard data on available aircraft. Most of the ground interdiction airframes are part of frontal aviation, while air superiority aircraft are part of PVO.

We have had a discussion in the O-club about this very matter, albeit just the ground OOB.

My contention is that Putin has yet to mobilize any part of his ground forces, and is currently using GHQ units, which in a war would be operating as parts of fronts (which are military districts upon mobilization) and armies. You'll notice that the only divisions available are the airborne divisions. I also contend that the only units fully staffed and ready for war are the airborne units. Everything else (read; divisions) in order to be fielded must be filled with reservists and fillers.

Putin appears to be doing the same thing he did in South Ossetia. Rounding up any yahoos they can find, stuff them inside a BMP, tell them they are spetsnaz, and to go stop a bullet for Mother Russia, while regular troops wait for their chance to move in. IOW, he's doing this all on the cheap. His forces, as large as they are are in no way ready for war.

Before you get a peaceful, easy feeling about all that understand that in the late 1930s, no one was ready for war, not even Herr Hitler, but to war they went in 1939.

This is similar to what our parents and grandparent saw back in the 1930.

Just my two kopeks...

#6  Inclined to agree with Badanov, to bring so many different units means either Russia is cherry picking people from the individual MRB's to form something resembling a trained unit or it is getting some field/combat experience to units, officers and long service NCO's to build brigades and divisions around.

Pro Russian militias ring up 4 aircraft, two boats

By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

At least two SU-25 ground interdiction combat aircraft have been shot down by pro Russian militia Friday in Ukraina, according to pro Russian news accounts.

According to news from the pro Russian Voice of Sevastopol and the Russian military blogger Colonel Cassad, militia forces claim to have shot down four, but only have photographic proof of two.

Some Ukrainian media, such as Ukraine Press totally dispute the contention of loss of aircraft calling the reports "imaginary" and attributed to Russian special forces attempting to spread panic.

The aircraft were reportedly shot down somewhere over Donetsk oblast, in both cases by militia forces using man packed antiaircraft missile launchers (MANPADs). The SU-25 is a dedicated ground interdiction aircraft, said to be very difficult to bring down by conventional ground fire due to its robust construction.

No indication from either side exists as to the fate of the pilots.

Meanwhile in far southern Donetsk on the coast of the Sea of Azov on Sunday, pro Russian militias in Novoazovsk returned fire after they were fired on by two Ukrainian patrol boats, sinking both boats. An attempt to retrieve sailors in the water by two smaller Ukrainian craft was made, which were also fired on by militias.

Also on the coast of the Sea of Azov, pro Russian media is reporting that the paratroopers captured during the first of the battles along with southern coast of Donetsk have been returned to Russia, according to Russian press outlet Russia Today.

A Friday statement released by the deputy commander of Russia's airborne forces, General Major Alexei Ragozin said that the 12 soldiers captured last week have been returned safely to Russia, after negotiations with the Ukrainian government he characterized as "very difficult" in the early going.

The soldiers were said to have stumbled into Ukraina along an unmarked portion of the Ukraina-Russian border. Their units, traveling aboard four infantry fighting vehicles, were fired on by Ukrainian military forces. The vehicles, said to be BMD-1s were destroyed by Ukrainian tank gunfire.

Ukrainian media and government reports continue to claim that Russian military forces are directly involved in the fighting in Donetsk, which both pro Russian militia and Russian officials deny. Reports from last week claim to show Russian self propelled artillery units parked just inside the Ukrainian border, presumably providing artillery fire support for militia forces.

Ukrainian media also say that several Russian military units, notably the Russian 9th Motorized Rifle Brigade and an airborne rifle regiment were located deep inside Ukraina providing direct help to militias.

A report posted on Burko News said that last Tuesday night a number of Russian armor vehicles including the 152mm 2S3 self propelled artillery vehicle and some unidentified armored vehicles had slipped into Ukraina near the border post of Izvaryne. Another 20 Russian main battle tanks came across the border on Wednesday during the day.

Ukrainian border guards and security forces are said to have intercepted another Russian military convoy near Uspenka and destroyed it. The action took place on August 23rd. Among the destroyed equipment were reportedly 20 military vehicles including two BTR-80s. A total of 26 militants said to be of both Russian and Chechen nationality were killed. Two were captured.

Ukrainian forces experienced no losses during the encounter.

A late report on Burko News said that Russian social media is reporting heavy losses to one Russian tactical group totaling nine main battle tanks, 18 armored personnel carriers, 43 Ural trucks, and 230 personnel. The report failed to note the location of the unit and how it suffered losses.

The Ukrainian press say personnel from as many as eight separate units are currently operating inside of Donetsk and Lugansk. Other Ukrainian reports suggest that those units have been freshly moved into the region by the Russians.

Pro Russian militia say the the situation in Mariupol is calm, even as militia forces claim to have the town fully invested. Reports are that Ukrainian mortar teams continue to shell militia forces holding the coastal town of Novoazovsk, which fell to militia forces last week.

According to the Voice of Sevastopol, militia have taken the coastal village of Yalta further to the west and south of Mariupol, which completes the encirclement of Mariupol. Reports from pro Russian militia say that Mariupol could fall within two weeks.

This is in contradiction of reports from both sides about how heavily Mariupol was being reinforced by Ukrainian forces and how the town was being used by Ukrainian police battalions, such as the Donbass and Azov police battalions as an area for rest and refit for units burned out in the fighting further northeast.

Latest reports are that militias have further reinforced their positions near Novoazovsk.

Further northeast between Lugansk and Donetsk, where militias claimed 7,000 Ukrainian effectives have been surrounded, fighting continues, as militia forces attempt to mop up the pockets with fierce resistance from Ukrainian forces.

Attempts to maneuver inside the pocket have created opportunities for firefights between militias and Ukrainian forces. Those battles have been characterized as "very bloody" for both sides.

As matters stand now, Ukrainian forces are blocking the roads M04 between Yurievka and Yuvelinya, and E40 near Gorlovka. Both sites are southwest of Lugansk.

Further south along H21, Ukrainian and militia forces are locked in combat in Lutugino, a town which fell to militias three days ago. Reports at the location are that Ukrainian forces are commandeering private residences to use as firing points. Militia forces say that 10 of their troops have been killed by Ukrainian mortar fire.

Ukrainian forces say their mortar fire struck targets near "Chervonaya Polyana, roadblocks near Georgievka, Stanitsa Luganskaya, and for nearly four hours mortar attacks at roadblocks near Lutugino and Gerasimovka".

Saturday, August 30th

According to Donetsk prime minister Alexander Zakharchenko, Ukrainian police forces caught in encirclement between Lugansk and Donetsk were offered a ceasefire to leave the area without weapons, equipment and ammunition.

A separate report is that Ukrainian forces attempted to break out of their encirclement but first destroying equipment and armor, which was a violation of the ceasefire. Those forces were fired on by pro Russian militias. According to the Defense Minister of Donetsk, Vladimir Kononov, those Ukrainian forces were attacked because they failed to take advantage of the militias' "generous offer".

According to Ukrainian press those attempting to leave in violation of the terms were hit by Russian artillery. According to the pro Ukrainian Russian language news services, losses to the Ukrainians were said to be in the hundreds.

According to a report in the pro Russian Voice of Sevastopol, Alexander Zakharchenko added that the militias do not intend to storm Mariupol, but that the city will fall soon.

Another report said that pro Ukrainian militia, notably the Right Sector political organization and Ukrainian National Guard units have killed an undisclosed number of civilians inside of Mariupol for being sympathetic to pro Russian militias.

Pro Russian militias repelled four attacks Friday night by Ukrainian forces around Mariupol with losses totaling in the "dozens" for the pro Ukrainian forces. Fighting is said to be constant near Mariupol as pro Russian militias prepare to take Mariupol.

A separate report said that an attempt was made on Alexander Zakharchenko's life. His driver was wounded, but Zakharchenko was unharmed.

Sunday, August 31st

On Sunday pro Russian militias claimed to have taken control of parts of the airport in Lugansk, inasmuch as militias earlier claimed to have taken the airfield by storm 10 days ago. Currently Ukrainian forces were forced back a small distance to the south and southwest of the airfield.

Social media rumors are that some soldiers caught inside the Lugansk pocket are attempting to get the Ukrainian government to negotiate their safe passage from the area. Units that were ejected from the airfield were identified as the Ukrainian 79th, 24th and 80th Brigades.

Militias also have encircled the airport north of Donetsk. Fighting to clean up the pocket is still going on.

Indications are that even in the most favorable circumstances for the pro Russian militia, taking complete control of either of the air fields is weeks away.

Artillery Fire in Donetsk

Friday pro Russian news sources said Ukrainian artillery fire on Donetsk continued, with mortars hitting the railway station, Kuibyshev and Petrovski districts, the Kalinkino and Budenovsky districts and the Kalinin district. Artillery hits were reported in several locations on the northern outskirts of the city. The Kalinkino district was said to have been hit with rocket artillery fire. Residences in several areas were hit by artillery.

A separate report said that a mobile Ukrainian group had driven through the city firing small arms on militia targets.

Saturday Ukrainian artillery fire hit the Verhnekalmiusskaya water treatment plant in Donetsk, which is reportedly the only source of water for Donetsk.

In the afternoon artillery strike were recorded in Petrovsky, Kievsky and Leninsky districts. Two dead were reported.

On Sunday artillery hit in Donetsk in Kuibyshevskoye and in an area called "Azotny".

Knifeman kills three children in China school attack
[ARABNEWS] A knifeman stabbed three children to death and maimed five more plus a teacher in a rampage Monday at a Chinese primary school that refused to enroll his daughter, reports said.

The attacker killed himself by jumping from a building following the carnage at a school in Shiyan in the central province of Hubei, according to the official news agency Xinhua. The six maimed have been hospitalized, it said, adding two were seriously hurt. The man, surnamed Chen, "was struck down in his prime," Xinhua said without providing further details.

"An initial probe suggests Chen held a grudge after his daughter was denied registration into the new semester's courses for not completing her summer vocation homework," the news agency added, citing police. A local police official declined to provide information, saying: "I am not clear, the police bureau officials are at that school investigating."

UPDATE 2-Halliburton to settle U.S. Gulf spill claims for $1.1 bln
[Rooters] Halliburton Co, North America's top oilfield services provider, said it reached a $1.1 billion settlement for a majority of claims related to its role in BP Plc's oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010.

The settlement, which includes legal fees, is subject to approval by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, Halliburton said.

The amount, to be paid in three installments over the next two years, will be put into a trust until all appeals are resolved, the company said.

"We think this is a smart move by Halliburton," said Stewart Glickman, an equity analyst at S&P Capital IQ. "While state claims by Louisiana and Alabama remain, we think this trims legal overhang."
Glad to hear it's going into a trust. The Regime won't be packing it off to the Mooslim Broederbond, The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the DNC, or foodstamps.... at least right away.

Ukraine govt warns of 'great war' with Russia
[ARABNEWS] Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko accused Russia on Monday of "direct and undisguised aggression" which he said had radically changed the battlefield balance as Kiev's forces suffered a further reverse in their war with pro-Moscow separatists.

Ukraine's defense minister also warned that a "great war" had broken out with Russia over his country's future that could claim tens of thousands of lives.

"A great war has arrived at our doorstep, the likes of which Europe has not seen since World War II. Unfortunately, the losses in such a war will be measured not in the hundreds but thousands and tens of thousands," Valeriy Geletey wrote in a Facebook post.

'Up to 15,000 Russian soldiers' sent to Ukraine, say rights groups
[Al Ahram] Up to 15,000 Russian soldiers have been sent to Ukraine over the past two months, and at least 200 may have died in combat there, rights groups told AFP on Monday.

Moscow denies that it has deployed regular troops to Ukraine to prop up separatists battling Kiev forces, but multiple indications have emerged over the past weeks that Russian soldiers are on the ground in Ukraine.

Valentina Melnikova, head of the Committee of Soldiers' Mothers, the main organization representing the families of servicemen, said some 7,000 to 8,000 Russian troops are believed to be in Ukraine at present.

Ukraine Defence Minister: Russians threaten nuclear attack.
[Newsweek] Kiev has received threats of nuclear retaliation from Russia through unofficial channels if it continues to fight pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine, the Ukrainian Minister of Defence, Valeriy Heletey, announced on his Facebook page on Monday.

“The Russian side has threatened on several occasions across unofficial channels that, in the case of continued resistance they are ready to use a tactical nuclear weapon against us,” Heletey’s statement reads.

The minister goes on to say that Russia’s “hybrid war” in Ukraine is at an end, accusing the Kremlin of attempting a “full-scale invasion”. Heletey called for all Ukrainian forces to “consolidate” and “begin building defences against Russia,” insisting today “the operation to liberate the Eastern Ukraine against terrorism is complete”.
Go ahead, don't talk about it! Lite the fuse and see what happens you SOB's.

The Grand Turk
Turkey Summons U.S. Envoy over Snowden Spying Claims
[AnNahar] Turkey on Monday said it had summoned the U.S. charge d'affaires in Ankara to demand an explanation over a report that Washington has spied intensively on Turkish leaders since 2006.

Der Spiegel reported that as well as sharing intelligence with NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Originally it was a mutual defense pact directed against an expansionist Soviet Union. In later years it evolved into a mechanism for picking the American pocket while criticizing the cut of the American pants...
partner Turkey, the United States and its ally Britannia have been conducting extensive electronic surveillance on the Turkish leadership.

The German weekly said that the information was based on documents released by the runaway former National Security Agency (NSA) operative Edward Snowden who has taken asylum in Russia.

"The U.S. charge d'affaires has been summoned to the foreign ministry to demand an explanation," Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc told news hounds in Ankara in televised comments.

The new U.S. ambassador to Turkey, John Bass, is yet to arrive in Ankara.

Der Spiegel said starting in 2006, the NSA began a major surveillance operation aimed at hacking into the computers of Turkey's leadership. The aim was to glean information about the strategic intentions of the Turkish leadership under Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
, who on Thursday was inaugurated as president after over a decade as prime minister.

It said that the United States also spied on Turkey's embassy in Washington and its mission at the United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
in New York.

According to Der Spiegel, the NSA placed "Turkey at the level of Venezuela, and even ahead of Cuba, in terms of U.S. interest in intelligence collection."
Not sure if that's a compliment or an insult...
The information was shared with the key intelligence partners of the United States -- Britannia, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Der Spiegel said Britannia had already developed its own operations in Turkey, with its GCHQ surveillance agency eavesdropping on political targets in the country.

Turkey has already expressed anger over a previous report in Der Spiegel that Germany had been spying on its NATO ally for years.
In other words, everybody does it. I think I'm becoming cynical.
Der Spiegel also said that at the same time there had been very tight cooperation between the United States and Turkey on intelligence, particularly on Kurdish Death Eaters fighting an insurgency in Turkey's southeast.

It said that one NSA document bluntly described Turkey as both a "partner and a target".

Turkish PM promises peace with Kurds, active diplomacy
[ARABNEWS] Turkey's new Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Monday vowed to seek a peace deal with Kurdish rebels with new vigor and pursue an assertive foreign policy where Ankara would set its own agenda.

Davutoglu, the former foreign minister who took over as premier from new President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
last week, reaffirmed ambitious goals to make Turkey a top 10 global economy and member of the EU by 2023 as he presented the program of his new government.

But he said special priority would be paid to making peace with Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) rebels seeking self-rule for Kurds in the southeast of Turkey, to end a three-decade insurgency that has claimed some 40,000 lives.

"We will carry out the grinding of the peace processor with a determination which will change the fate of the country. We will press on with efforts to make sure all segments of the society can embrace it," Davutoglu told parliament.

"We will be act in a more decisive manner and tear down the walls between our nation and the state."

Erdogan, who was elected president this month, launched clandestine negotiations with tossed in the clink
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan in 2012. But they stalled in September last year when the rebels accused him of failing to deliver on reform.

However,
ars longa, vita brevis...
hopes have been raised in recent weeks of a new breakthrough and Ocalan has said that the conflict is "coming to an end."

Davutoglu -- who was criticized by some analysts for pursuing an overly ambitious foreign policy while top diplomat -- said Turkey would carry on with an assertive diplomacy.

"We will be not be a country whose agenda is set by other countries," he said.
