United Nations asked to divide Nigeria into six republics
[Daily Post] Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, and Biafra Independence Movement, BIM, have pleaded with the United Nations, UN and other world leaders to divide Nigeria into six geo-political zones as a permanent solution to the myriad of problems facing the nation.

The groups noted that granting the six geo-political zones in Nigeria self-rule would be the only solution to the many challenges.

In a statement signed by the Director of Information of the pro-Biafra group, Chris Mocha, the two groups called on the UN and other super powers to consider the lives of people that are killed on a daily basis in Nigeria arising from insurgency in the North East and Fulani herdsmen and respond to their call.

Mocha said the proposed nations include South East, (Biafra), South-South (Niger Delta), North East, North West, South West, (Oduduwa) and North- Central.

He added that no amount of preaching on nationalism can change Nigeria as it is today.

Mocha further explained that when the said zones are given independence, assets of the citizens of the different countries will be protected by international laws, just as bilateral agreements will guide the future relationship of the new republics.

The group, however, insisted that several members of BIM/MASSOB were killed last week during the Biafra anniversary at Nkpor and Onitsha.

#1  Goodluck Jonathon has his hands full. Causing all manner of trouble are the Islamist insurgency of Boko Haram in the North East, Niger Delta militants in the South and the violently militant Fulani Herdsmen who are affiliated to ISIS and Boko Haram in the East.

Separating (apartheid) the lot? 'Back to the future' of ethnic tribalism? What a novel approach.

#4  FrankG is right. From the CIA World Factbook:

chief of state: President Maj. Gen. (ret.) Muhammadu BUHARI (since 29 May 2015)

He'll be better able to deal with the various insurgencies when the govment has recovered more funds stolen by Mr. Goodluck Jonathan's cronies. If I recall correctly, they've already identified the location of about $33 million.

#6  Sure, you can give 'em a province and they'll be content for a while. Then they'll start moving into the province next door and causing trouble there. Then they'll demand that province...

#1  Why do I get the feeling they'll be railing against "white dominance" even after after every white person in SA has left or died?

Or every white person in the world, for that matter.

#3  I think that they should forego any use of anything developed by whites or non-blacks as they prefer.

Start with guns and medicine (yeah, I know, the Chinese, but they're not liked any more than whites)

South African students set fire to Nelson Mandela’s alma mater
On Wednesday evening (May 18), students frustrated by the lack of affordable accommodation, transportation, and financial aid set fire to a marquee at the University of Fort Hare and blockaded the main administration building with burning tires. Earlier on Wednesday, students picketed outside a courtroom where another group of Fort Hare students were charged with public violence in previous protests.

Since October last year, South Africa’s public universities have been the scenes of violent and emotional demonstrations, as a generation once known as the Born Frees—those born after apartheid ended in 1994—find that the country’s political liberation has not led to economic equality. Since the mass marches of the #FeesMustFall movement last year, campuses have seen sporadic demonstrations that have included arson, disrupted student elections, and nude protests.

The clarion call is free education, but students will settle for better financial aid, university housing, and safety for women. Students have also taken up the cause of support staff on campus, demanding better labor conditions for them. After failed negotiations, universities have often responded with police arrests and student suspensions. The chaos on South Africa’s campuses reflect a growing frustration with the lack of opportunity in a country where unemployment is above 25% and the economy is slipping behind its peers.

At another university, graduation celebrations may not go ahead because of student protests. In the early hours of Monday morning, the 1,000-seater sponsored auditorium of the University of Johannesburg was firebombed. The hall was gutted and the computer lab above it was damaged. Neither graduations nor exams will take place there for now.

The university responded with strong language, saying the “arsonists” who caused $6 million damage will be “brought to book.” Twelve students are already facing disciplinary action for earlier protests, and the university vowed that their hearing would continue despite the vandalism. With renewed unrest in recent days, the University of Johannesburg has hired bouncers to keep the peace on campus, fearing a repeat of public protests that saw 141 students and workers arrested last year.

For South African protesters, setting state-owned buildings ablaze seems the only way to get attention. Last year, students at the North West University set fire to some buildings, forcing the university to temporarily shut down. Earlier this month, residents angered by a municipal boundary dispute damaged and torched 26 schools in the already impoverished Limpopo province.

Apparently it's more than just students.

Anti-gang Offensive in El Salvador Cuts Murder Rate
[An Nahar] El Salvador, ranked one of the most dangerous countries in the world, has nearly halved its staggeringly bloody monthly murder rate amid a fierce crackdown on fearsome gangs.

But analysts pointed out that the number of homicides this year is still above where it was the same time last year, and warned that the government offensive against the gangs needs to continue to break them apart.

Justice and Security Minister Mauricio Ramirez said Thursday that the "extraordinary measures" El Salvador has employed "have managed to reduce the crime rate by more than 50 percent."

Isolating gang bosses in prison, sending in elite troops and police to arrest gang members, and erasing gang graffiti from the streets of at least one town all appear to be bearing fruit.

Some 353 murders were recorded in each of the months of May and April, according to the Institute for Forensic Medicine.

While that is still high, it is significantly less than the 611 homicides in March, 644 in February and 740 in January.

However the total number of murders so far this year, 2,721, is still higher than the 2,188 registered for the same period in 2015.

That underlines El Salvador's notoriety as the country with the most murders per capita in the world outside of a war zone.
