Hack of Democrats' Accounts Was Wider Than Believed, Officials Say
[NYT] WASHINGTON -- A Russian cyberattack that targeted Democratic politicians was bigger than it first appeared and breached the private email accounts of more than 100 party officials and groups, officials with knowledge of the case said Wednesday.

The widening scope of the attack has prompted the F.B.I. to broaden its investigation, and agents have begun notifying a long list of Democratic officials that the Russians may have breached their personal accounts.

The main targets appear to have been the personal email accounts of Hillary Clinton’s campaign officials and party operatives, along with a number of party organizations.

Officials have acknowledged that the Russian hackers gained access to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which is the fund-raising arm for House Democrats, and to the Democratic National Committee, including a D.N.C. voter analytics program used by Mrs. Clinton’s presidential campaign.

But the hack now appears to have extended well beyond those groups, and organizations like the Democratic Governors’ Association may also have been affected, according to Democrats involved in the investigation. However, in a statement Thursday, the governors association said it "was informed that our analytics data was not compromised as part of the D.N.C. breach that affected the Clinton campaign."

The group added that "we have no reason to believe that any D.G.A. emails were compromised by the D.N.C. breach."

Democrats say they are bracing for the possibility that another batch of damaging or embarrassing internal material could become public before the November presidential election.

The attack has already proved politically damaging. On the eve of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia last month, Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz resigned as D.N.C. chairwoman after WikiLeaks released a trove of hacked internal emails showing party officials eager for Mrs. Clinton to win the nomination over Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont.

American intelligence agencies have said they have "high confidence" that the attack was the work of Russian intelligence agencies. It has injected a heavy dose of international intrigue into an already chaotic presidential campaign as Democrats have alleged that the Russians are trying to help tilt the election toward the Republican nominee, Donald J. Trump.

Joint FBI-US Attorney Probe Of Clinton Foundation Is Underway
[Daily Caller] Multiple FBI investigations are underway involving potential corruption charges against the Clinton Foundation, according to a former senior law enforcement official.

The investigation centers on New York City, where the Clinton Foundation has its main offices, according to the former official who has direct knowledge of the activities.

Prosecutorial support will come from various U.S. Attorneys Offices -- a major departure from other centralized FBI investigations.

The New York-based probe is being led by Preet Bharara, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York. Bharara’s prosecutorial aggressiveness has resulted in a large number of convictions of banks, hedge funds and Wall Street insiders.

Pokemon Go: Cambodia genocide survivors upset over players at Khmer Rouge torture site
[IBTIMES.CO.UK] Pokemon Go has sparked further controversy after people were seen playing the game at the S-21 Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, where thousands are believed to have been tortured and executed in Cambodia during the Khmer Rouge regime in the 1970s.

Tuol Sleng, better known as S-21, used to be one of Cambodia's most notorious prisons during the Khmer Rouge regime between 1975-1917. The regime claimed the lives of up to three million people, including between 15,000 and 20,000 prisoners who were thought to have been tortured to death in the prison.

According to the BBC, officials and tour guides have confirmed that people are playing Pokemon Go inside the prison grounds. Photographs of many of the torture victims of Tuol Sleng in Penh are on display in the prison cells where they were murdered.

An S-21 survivor, 76-year-old Buo Meng, told AFP: "It is a place of suffering. It is not appropriate to play the game there. It is an insulting act to the souls of the victims who died there."

Meng has called for the museum to be excluded from Pokemon Go's maps in respect for the victims of one of the worst mass killings of the 20th century. The prison documents the story of the Cambodia genocide, with the name Tuol Sleng translating to "Hill of the Poisonous Trees".

Saudi Arabia tries 14 over deadly Makkah crane crash
[DAWN] Fourteen people have gone on trial in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
over a crane collapse in Makkah that killed 111 pilgrims and injured hundreds more just days before the start of the annual Haj pilgrimage last year, local media reported on Thursday.

State-linked newspapers said six Saudis, including a billionaire, as well as two Paks, a Canadian, a Jordanian, a Paleostinian, an Egyptian, an Emirati and a Filipino are on trial. The defendants' names were not made public.

The Okaz newspaper says the defendants are accused of negligence, damaging public property and ignoring safety guidelines. It appears all are employees of the Saudi Binladin Group, the construction giant that was operating the crane.

Amid unusually strong winds, the 1,350-tonne crane collapsed onto the Grand Mosque that houses Islam's holiest site bringing down slabs of concrete on worshippers below. The tragedy on September 11 was the first of two major signs of divine displeasure incidents to mar last year's Haj.

A stampede and crush of pilgrims killed more than 2,400 people on September 24, according to an News Agency that Dare Not be Named count. The Saudi Gazette reported that 170 employees of the Binladin Group had been questioned by Sherlocks ahead of the court proceedings.

Okaz said prosecutors decided not to file charges against 42 others who were under investigation, including 16 members of the Binladin family. Dozens of cranes surround Makkah's Grand Mosque, part of a massive construction effort headed by the Binladin Group.

The Binladin family has been close to Saudi Arabia's ruling family for decades and runs major building projects. Al-Qaeda's late leader the late Osama bin Laden

was a renegade son disowned by the family in the 1990s.

Caribbean-Latin America
Panama Agrees to Help Migrants Head on for U.S.
[AnNahar] Panama promised Tuesday to help hundreds of migrants colonists who have crossed its jungle border from Colombia to carry on toward the United States.

President Juan Carlos Varela said Panama would make an exception to its immigration restrictions for migrants colonists who have recently crossed into Panama's Darien jungle.

"The border will remain closed to irregular migrants colonists, but those that are using these points to cross and have already reached our territory will be given humanitarian assistance so they can continue on their way," he said.

"Panama will not allow anyone who has crossed into our country to die on our territory," he added, in a public speech.

Around 800 U.S.-bound migrants colonists, most of them from Haiti, Africa, Asia and Cuba, are in dense jungle on the Panama-Colombia border, Varela said Friday.

He described it as "another migration crisis."

A further 2,500 are stranded in Panama's northern neighbor, Costa Rica, since the next country on the trail, Nicaragua, has tightened immigration controls.

Colombian authorities say they have deported thousands of migrants colonists trying to reach Panama from its northern territory.

Varela said last week that many of the migrants colonists were Haitians who had gone to Brazil after a 2010 earthquake devastated their country.

Brazil's current deep recession has driven them to try to get to the United States through Central America.

Trump considering Darth Bolton as Secretary of State
[Bretibart] Donald Trump spoke Thursday on the "Hugh Hewitt Show" about his secretary of state selection, naming former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton as his potential secretary of state.

Trump was reluctant to name anybody now because of the heavy scrutiny they could face. Hewitt then asked about Bolton, and the GOP presidential nominee said he is a serious contender.

"I think John Bolton's a good man," Trump replied. "I watched him yesterday, actually, and he was very good in defending me in some of my views, and very, very strong. And I've always liked John Bolton. Well, we are thinking about it, Hugh. I will say that. We are thinking about it. I mean, the negative is what I told you. But we are seriously thinking about it."

India-Pakistan
Mob rule targetting suspected kidnappers
[DAWN] MULTAN/FAISALABAD/GUJRANWALA: The cases of mob justice in the wake of recent child kidnap reports are rising in Multan, Faisalabad
...formerly known as Lyallpur, the third largest metropolis in Pakistain, the second largest in Punjab after Lahore. It is named after some Arab because the Paks didn't have anybody notable of their own to name it after...
and other areas of Punjab.

On Wednesday, a mob clashed with police on Shujabad Road when they tried to rescue four suspected kidnappers, including a woman.

Later, it turned out the people held hostage and beaten were the residents of Talagang and had come to Multan in search for their own missing child.

The mob, mostly the residents of Farooqpura Chowk, held Nasiruddin, Nisar Ahmed, Saleheen and Sanobar Mai hostage calling them kidnappers. Hearing the word ’kidnappers’, the mob started beating them and resisted when police sought the custody of the four people. The mob blocked the main Shujabad Road for six hours demanding action against the alleged kidnappers.

Police engaged the local notables and politicians to end the road blockade. An assurance by the police that they would thoroughly interrogate the Talagang residents pacified the mob to open the road.

Police shifted the four people to Cantonment Police Station. A spokesperson for police said the incident was the result of misunderstanding, but police would thoroughly probe the matter.

Earlier, on Tuesday night people tortured a man in Kotla Abul Fateh suspecting him a child snatcher and later handed him over to Muzafarabad police.

Hours before this, a man and a woman were brutally tortured in Biliwala (in Multan) by a mob for the same allegations. Both are in hospital fighting for life. Police said both the man and the woman were mentally challenged.

Similar mob justice cases have been happening in the recent weeks in Lahore. The people were thrashed and beaten by the mobs were declared innocent by Lahore police.

In Faisalabad, mobsters tried to burn an alleged kidnapper in Madinaabad. Ghulam Mohammadabad police started the paperwork but haven't done much else on Wednesday against more than 300 people, of them, 19 nominated, for trying to kill the man, later identified as Farooq.

The case registered on the complaint of Station House Officer Mohammad Adil says the mob on Tuesday tried to put Farooq on fire by dousing patrol on him when Ghulam Mohammadabad police tried to get his custody. The man was held hostage in the house of Imran in Madinaabad.

Also on Wednesday, enraged people thrashed a policeman and tore his uniform near Bawa Chak on Sargodha Road during a demonstration against the Millat Town police for not registration a kidnapping case.

Later, Millat Town police tossed in the clink
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
six people for thrashing policeman Waseem, of Ali Town police post.

Protesters said police had not registered the kidnapping case of 18-year-old Mehboob, son of Muhammad Yaqoob. Police say the kidnapping case had been registered.

In Gujranwala, residents of Wapda Town protested against the alleged kidnapping of two minor girls. Police, however, refuted the report and said no kidnapping was reported. Protesters, led by Nasir Bhatti, insisted that Sofia (13) and Aqsa (11), both maids of Bhatti in Wapda Town, had been missing since 2pm. Police arrested Bhatti and three others.

Couple killed for ‘honour’
[DAWN] MUZAFFARABAD: The family of a man who was killed along with his wife in the name of ’honour’ placed the bodies of both victims on a main road linking Rawalakot with Muzaffarabad throughout Wednesday, demanding that the main suspect be tossed in the clink
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
The bodies were removed at about 6pm after a committee of locals was constituted to serve as guarantors by the Poonch divisional commissioner that the suspect, who is also wanted in another case, will be apprehended within 48 hours.

Owais Riaz, 30, and his 18-year-old wife Aliza were found dead in an isolated house in Danna Kotehra on Tuesday, four days after they had married in a court.

Riaz had married another girl for love two years ago and had to run away with her as well.

The couple were allowed to come back to the village after a jirga decided on the matter. After he had a daughter with his first wife, he had moved to Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
for work.

According to Inayat Hussein, an official in the City Police Station, Rawalakot, Riaz came back to Pakistain on July 29 and married Aliza in front of a judicial magistrate on Aug 5.

A local, Shoaib Arif, told the couple to stay in his house so that they would be safe from the girl’s family.

On Tuesday evening, Mr Arif told police that he had come home from work to find both of them rubbed out.

Police handed over the bodies to Riaz’s family after autopsies were conducted in the early hours of Wednesday.

In the FIR, Riaz’s father alleged that the couple were killed by Aliza’s paternal uncle Niaz Ahmed who was wanted by police in another case as well.

Niaz was booked under Section 302 of the Pakistain Penal Code and the girl’s father Nisar Ahmed, his relatives Khadim and Zahid and the owner of the house in which the couple had taken refuge were arrested and booked for abetment in the crime, Mr Hussein said.

Riaz’s family placed the bodies on the road and demanded that the main suspect also be arrested. Divisional Commissioner Zafar Mehmood assured them that the suspect would be apprehended within two days and formed a council of elders to serve as guarantors of his assurance.

Later, Aliza’s body was handed over to her family.

Minority MPs seek constitutional amendment, demand top govt slots for non-Muslims
[DAWN] Lawmakers belonging to minorities demanded to amend the Constitution and make non-Moslems eligible for the slots of president and prime minister of the country.

"Although it will be almost impossible for any non-Moslem to become president or the prime minster of the country under the present circumstances, at least the Constitution should be made neutral in this regard," Khalil George, member of the National Assembly, said on Thursday.

George was speaking on the floor of the House.

Khalil George, who belongs to the ruling Pakistain Moslem League-Nawaz, was of the view that a constitutional ban on non-Moslems barring them from becoming head of the state and chief executive was sending wrong message to minorities residing in the country.

"Non-Moslems think they are not equal citizens in Pakistain," George said, adding that an amendment in the Constitution will send positive message to the minorities.

Endorsing the demand of his colleague, Pakistain People’s Party's (PPP) politician Ramesh Lal said, constitutional restriction on non-Moslems is in violation of basic human rights
...not to be confused with individual rights, mind you...
and teachings of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah -- the founder of Pakistain.

"Is there any doubt about the patriotism of non-Moslems," Lal questioned. He went on to say that making them [minorities] ineligible for top slots creates a sense of deprivation among the minorities.

Asiya Nasir of Jamaat Ulema-e-Islam
...a pak religious party. It is usually part of the govt, never part of the solution...
-Fazl also raised her voice in supported of the idea. She said "no one should have problem if non-Moslems are given right to become president and the prime minister of the country".

and another runaway of the Darwish family, al-Mustaqbal
... the Future Movement, political party led by Saad Hariri...
daily reported on Tuesday.

Paleostinian sources following up closely on the issue, assured that more runaways will turn themselves in and that the army checkpoints that were erected at the entrances to the camp saw nine runaways surrender in less than two weeks.

There are around 600 people of different nationalities inside the camp classified as wanted by the Lebanese authorities.
They added that there are around 600 people of different nationalities inside the camp classified as wanted by the Lebanese authorities. They did not rule out the prospect that high-risk runaways might consider turning themselves in "since the time is more appropriate than ever."

The daily said it obtained information that "some of these runaways have opened channels with Paleostinian and Lebanese parties in order to test the waters."

A senior Paleostinian official pointed out that the wave of surrenders can only be seen as positive since it vents the security pressure that has been burdening the camp and its residents. It heralds for a new and advanced stage of Lebanese-Paleostinian cooperation in countering any attempts that aim to shake the security situation in the camp, or use it as a conduit to harm Leb's stability and safety.

The official added that what is happening in Ein el-Hellhole delivers a two-target message: towards Leb's neighboring countries that the camp has been sprung of guilt of being a harbor for runaways, and a reassurance message to runaways, who wish to surrender, that the opportunity became available to them today more than ever.

However,
those who apply themselves too closely to little things often become incapable of great things...
some factors have contributed in encouraging the runaways to surrender, most notably the good treatment given by the army to the detained in addition to the psychological and social pressures and the dire living conditions they experience in the camp.
I don't recall -- is Ein al Hellhole the Palestinian "refugee camp" that ISIS was gradually taking over, or was it a different one in Lebanon?

#1  ISIS would find taking over Ain el Hilweh a challenge.

For one thing its deep in Lebanon - on the coast and many Shiite areas are near there.

For another, the place has a huge population these days - probably 100,000 or so - because of the conflict (also a lot of ordinary criminals hide there to avoid being taken to Lebanon jails)
