Florida Woman Accused of Shooting at House Guests Who Stayed Too Long
A Florida woman who thought her house guests overstayed their welcome was arrested after she shot one of them, authorities said.

Alana Annette Savell, 32, was arrested Monday on a charge of aggravated battery with a firearm, Bay County Sheriff's Office officials said.

A woman told authorities that she had gone to Savell's home with a friend. Savell said they started drinking and were getting too loud, and said she didn't want them in her home.

Savell armed herself with a handgun and started shooting at their feet from the doorway of the home, Paleo? officials said. The woman was hit in the legs and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Savell's boyfriend was also hit in the leg with a bullet during the shooting, authorities said.

Queens man cuffed for trying to push straphanger onto Harlem subway tracks; yelled, 'I hate white people'
[NYDAILYNEWS] Cops busted a Queens man for trying to push a straphanger onto the subway tracks in Harlem and yelling, "I hate white people!"

Police cuffed Gary Weeks, 51, of Wavecrest for the bizarre attack Monday at 2 p.m. at the 4-5-6 subway station at 125th St. and Lexington Ave., officials said.

The straphanger was waiting for a northbound train when Weeks walked up to him and tried to push him onto the tracks. The victim got away from Weeks, as other people started pointing and yelling at the attacker to simmer down.

He then began yelling about his hatred for whites. Once cops closed in and cuffed him, he spit on one officer, police said.

Weeks was charged with attempted murder, aggravated harassment and obstruction of government administration.

German Man Cheats Recycling Machine Out of Over $47,000 Using a Single Bottle
[OddityCentral.com] A drinks vendor in Cologne, Germany was recently tried and convicted to ten months in prison for modifying a bottle recycling machine and cheating the swindling several tens of thousands of euros from the national recycling system.

Bottle-recycling machines in Germany are fairly straightforward ‐ a person inserts one or more bottles into the machine and they receive a receipt for a few euro-cents, or euros, depending on the number of bottles recycled. But in a case presented in front of a Cologne court last week, one recycling machine ended up paying a whopping €44,362.75 ($47,000) without recycling a single bottle. It turns out that an unnamed local drinks vendor managed to modify one such recycling machine located in the basement of his shop so that he could earn a lot more than the usual spare change. Evidence presented during the trial showed that the 37-year-old defendant had installed a magnet sensor and a kind of wooden tunnel into the machine, which allowed him to insert the bottle into the mechanism, receive his receipt and then retrieve the bottle without it actually getting shredded inside.

If you’re wondering how many times the man had to insert and retrieve that one bottle to earn a total of $47,000, the exact number is 177,451 times. The judge presiding over this case called the scam a "logistical master stroke", adding that must have "done nothing else every day other than attend to the machine." And while it is unknown exactly how long it took the drinks vendor to repeat the process 177,451, he did have this to say on the matter: "I had a radio next to it because otherwise it was really boring."
heh
The defendant revealed that he had invested around €5,000 in modifying the machine, which is very little money compared to how much he was able to earn from the scam. And he would have probably reached a six figure sum if he had just kept his mouth shut about it. According to the Kölner Stadt Anzeiger newspaper, the Deutsche Pfandsystem Gesellschaft, the company responsible for bottle-recycling machine distribution and payments across Germany, hadn’t even noticed anything fishy about this particular machine until an undercover detective received an anonymous tip-off about it.

The detective responsible for uncovering the money swindling operation told reporters that this scam is unlikely to be a one-off, and that the recycling system is probably suffering losses into the millions of euros. The defendant’s lawyer also stated in court that her client "did not invent the scam, but merely copied it."
heh

Tommy Hilfiger thinks designers ‘should be proud' to dress Melania Trump
As it turns out, not everyone agrees with Sophie Theallet’s stance on dressing -- or rather, not dressing -- future First Lady Melania Trump. The designer revealed last week that she would not dress Trump and encouraged other designers to follow her lead.

"As one who celebrates and strives for diversity, individual freedom and respect for all lifestyles, I will not participate in dressing or associating in any way with the next first lady. The rhetoric of racism, sexism and xenophobia unleashed by her husband’s presidential campaign are incompatible with the shared values we live by," Theallet wrote. Designers stayed mum following her demand -- until Nov. 21 at the Angel Ball, when Tommy Hilfiger suggested designers not "become political about it."

Hilfiger and wife Dee Ocleppo were among those attending the Angel Ball at the Cipriani Wall Street. When asked what he thought of Theallet’s refusal to dress Trump, he responded with compliments for the former model.

"I think Melania is a very beautiful woman and I think any designer should be proud to dress her," Hilfiger said. "Ivanka is equally as beautiful and smart, although she wears her own clothes. I don’t think people should become political about it. Everyone was very happy to dress Michelle [Obama] as well. I think they look great in the clothes. You’re not gonna get much more beautiful than Ivanka or Melania."

Theallet did not respond to requests for comment on her missive on Nov. 18. A spokeswomen for Trump also did not respond to requests for comment. Spokespeople for Diane von Furstenberg, Michael Kors and Dennis Basso declined to comment, as did one for Ivanka Trump, a designer in her own right. Representatives for Carolina Herrera, Rosie Assoulin and Thakoon Panichgul said they were unavailable.

Hilfiger is one of the first designers to speak out about Theallet’s vow not to dress Trump. Perhaps his comments will inspire others to voice their opinions on the matter, too.

At least one retailer is also not happy with Theallet.

Angela’s, a designer boutique in Rye, N.Y., is angry about Theallet’s open letter to designers. Owner Angela Guitard sent Theallet an e-mail Monday morning calling the designer’s move "a slap in the face" to herself as a U.S. citizen, and said she would not carry her collection in her store.

"As an independent store owner unbiased to all, I keep my opinions to myself about politics, especially when it is unwarranted. I am disappointed by your e-mail and the ignorant said content of it. Clearly you are now inflicting your impudent political opinions on others and using social media for promotion. It is disrespectful and unprofessional on many fronts," Guitard wrote.

"The fact that you have rejected our new president and first lady is not only a slap in the face to me as a U.S. citizen, but you have also insulted the true democracy of this country and negated any openness to unite Americans," she wrote.

Guitard said the USA has allowed both Theallet and many others, including herself, many opportunities to pursue their dream. "Capitalism is the true mantra of this country; ignorance is not," Guitard wrote. "I encourage you, as an immigrant to this country, to cherish the USA, the great country you now live in, and embrace our new reign of power in the White House," she wrote.

Further she added, "It would be anyone’s honor to dress our first lady that this country has chosen."

Guitard told WWD that she used to carry Theallet’s collection, but stopped carrying it about two and a half years ago. She said her husband is also French and has been in the country 25 years and became an American citizen last year. This was the first election he could vote in.

"I feel very strongly that he [Donald Trump] won the election, he is our president-elect and you have to respect who the people voted for," Guitard told WWD. She said she would drop any designers who refuse to dress Melania Trump. She said she hasn’t heard back yet from Theallet, who has dressed First Lady Michelle Obama during the past eight years.

A spokeswoman for Theallet said the designer was not commenting beyond her original open letter. Asked whether Theallet was a U.S. citizen and voted in the election, the spokeswoman declined comment.

Alicia Silverstone Poses Nude for PETA to Protest Wool
Alicia Silverstone would rather go naked than wear wool. And she's making that very clear in her new ad for PETA, in which she poses nude holding a sheep mask and standing with her back to the camera. A massive billboard of the image now stands near Times Square in New York City.
I think I just found the silver lining in the PETA cloud.
"If you're trying to avoid wool, why not make that leap?" she suggests in a related video that's part of PETA's new #WoolFreeWinter campaign. "Say, 'I'm never going to buy wool again.'"

She continues, "Wool, in general, has not been thought about by many, many people. It's just not something that's brought to their attention. The biggest thing that people always say to me is, "Oh, but they just shear the sheep! They don't kill the sheep.'" The video then cuts to graphic images of sheep being tortured for their wool, the very fabric that's in the sweater you are probably wearing right now.

As the PETA website goes on to explain, "If they were left alone and not genetically manipulated, sheep would grow just enough wool to protect themselves from temperature extremes. The fleece provides them with effective insulation against both cold and heat." Additionally, it notes, "Shearers are usually paid by volume, not by the hour, which encourages fast work without any regard for the welfare of the sheep. This hasty and careless shearing leads to frequent injuries, and workers use a needle and thread to sew the worst wounds shut -- without any pain relief. Strips of skin -- and even teats, tails, and ears -- are often cut or ripped off during shearing."
They have a bucket they put the extra parts in after they're done shearing the sheep.
The 40-year-old star once famously debated in behalf of "Haiti-ans" in Clueless, but now she's arguing in behalf of sheep, and as usual, she makes a good point. "It's on the slaughterhouse floor, where it's on a conveyor belt, and it's going that fast. It's just so fast -- the shearing process -- that they're cut, they're harmed. They get very seriously wounded, and there's no care for them when they're wounded. It's just, 'Move on to the next,'" Silverstone states in the video. "These are not creatures to the people who are doing this. They're just objects. When the sheep are no longer useful, they're killed."
Sheep death panels?
This is not Silverstone's first foray into PETA activism. In the early 2000s, she appeared in a video for the organization about being a vegetarian and how it has made her feel better and has given her more energy.
OK, now I'm inspired to go tell Angie Harmon that bears are having to use nettles because budget cuts to the National Park Service have resulted in no more toilet paper being put out for them to use. Of course, she has a brain so it probably won't work.

#5  Actress Alicia Silverstone is defending her parenting skills, calling her favored practice of pre-chewing her son's food "adorable" and saying she doesn't regret making it public, despite the widespread backlash.

The "Clueless" star has withered heavy criticism since a video she posted last month of her taking a spoonful of food, chewing it, then passing it open-mouthed to her 11-month-old son, Bear Blu, went viral.

"I just had a delicious breakfast of miso soup, collards and radish steamed and drizzled with flax oil, cast iron mochi with nori wrapped outside, and some grated daikon. Yum! I fed Bear the mochi and a tiny bit of veggies from the soup…from my mouth to his. It's his favorite…and mine," Silverstone wrote on her blog The Kind Life. "He literally crawls across the room to attack my mouth if I'm eating. This video was taken about a month or 2 ago when he was a bit wobbly. Now he is grabbing my mouth to get the food!"

FLASH! How Kim Kardashian Is Handling Kanye West’s Hospitalization
[EXTRATV] Reality star Kim Kardashian immediately flew back to Los Angeles as news broke of husband Kanye West’s hospitalization.
She's decided to have another butt transplant?
Kardashian skipped the Angel Ball, which had been slated to be her first red-carpet event after she was robbed at gunpoint in Paris, flying from New York City to be by Kanye’s side.
"Darling! It is I!"
A source told E! News, "Kim is by his side now and will stand there till everything gets better.
"Would you like another heinie feel, my love?"
Their time together was just about support. Kanye will be ok. He has a good set of doctors and the main thing is he wants to get through this."
"I'm gonna get through this!"
"What is it?"
"I dunno, man!"
"Then how do you know you're gonna get through it? Maybe it's a tumor!"
"Kim!"

Kim has been able to move on from the heist and be strong for her family.
"I'm strong!"
"Yeah! Flex your glutes!"

The insider continued, "She is just holding things down like Kanye did for her when she needed support. Kim is doing much better and is strong. This shall pass she believes.”
"Unless it's a tumor."
Another source revealed how the robbery affected the power couple’s marriage, telling People magazine, "Kim [was] usually the more stable and strong person in the marriage. Kanye is used to leaning on her. Since Kim has had her own issues to deal with, the roles have been reversed. Kanye has had to stay strong to support Kim, and it’s like he can’t handle it anymore.”
"I just can't take it anymore! The same thing, every day! 'They robbed me! They took my stuff! They didn't care who I wuz!' Yakkety yak!"
Even before his admittance into the hospital, Kim was reportedly worried about him.
"Oh, Kanye! I hope you don't have a tumor!"
The first source explained, "Kim was concerned that he may have been taking on too much with all these shows. It was many things on his plate that started to pile up at once.”

-Land of the Free
Abraham Lincoln - Proclamation 118‐Thanksgiving Day, 1864
By the President of the United States of America
A Proclamation

It has pleased Almighty God to prolong our national life another year, defending us with His guardian care against unfriendly designs from abroad and vouchsafing to us in His mercy many and signal victories over the enemy, who is of our own household. It has also pleased our Heavenly Father to favor as well our citizens in their homes as our soldiers in their camps and our sailors on the rivers and seas with unusual health. He has largely augmented our free population by emancipation and by immigration, while He has opened to us new sources of wealth and has crowned the labor of our workingmen in every department of industry with abundant rewards. Moreover, He has been pleased to animate and inspire our minds and hearts with fortitude, courage, and resolution sufficient for the great trial of civil war into which we have been brought by our adherence as a nation to the cause of freedom and humanity, and to afford to us reasonable hopes of an ultimate and happy deliverance from all our dangers and afflictions:

Now, therefore, I, Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States, do hereby appoint and set apart the last Thursday in November next as a day which I desire to be observed by all my fellow-citizens, wherever they may then be, as a day of thanksgiving and praise to Almighty God, the beneficent Creator and Ruler of the Universe. And I do further recommend to my fellow-citizens aforesaid that on that occasion they do reverently humble themselves in the dust and from thence offer up penitent and fervent prayers and supplications to the Great Disposer of Events for a return of the inestimable blessings of peace, union, and harmony throughout the land which it has pleased Him to assign as a dwelling place for ourselves and for our posterity throughout all generations.

In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the United States to be affixed.

Done at the city of Washington, this 20th day of October, A.D. 1864, and of the Independence of the United States the eighty-ninth.

ABRAHAM LINCOLN.

WILLIAM H. SEWARD,

Secretary of State .

China-Japan-Koreas
Fat Boy to Trump: Drop Hostile Policies
North Korea's Foreign Ministry in a nine-page statement on Monday called on the U.S. to drop its "hostile" policies toward Pyongyang. The North has "chosen the path to nuclear armament as a way of self-defense... from constant nuclear threats from the U.S.," the statement said. This seems to be a thinly veiled appeal to U.S. president-elect Donald Trump to overhaul North Korea policy.

The statement lists what it calls the U.S.' "political, military, and economic hostilities since 2012."

"Five years have passed" since the North began a full-scale confrontation with the U.S. to counter "the U.S.' hostile maneuvers and nuclear threats" after former leader Kim Jong-il's death.

Washington should look squarely at the North's "changed strategic status" and show with deeds that it will "stop anachronistic hostile policies toward the North and nuclear threats," it continued. "This alone will be a starting point for a solution to all problems."

Oil prices edge down on doubts about OPEC-led cuts
Oil prices fell slightly on Wednesday amid investor doubts that OPEC will agree to a production cut large enough to make a significant dent in the global glut of crude as U.S. drilling rises, Reuters reported.

Members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) will meet next week on Nov. 30 in Vienna to decide on the details of an agreement to cut output that the group has been trying to hammer out since September.

Oil prices fluctuated throughout the day, starting lower in the morning and later briefly turning positive after the Energy Information Administration said U.S. crude stocks unexpectedly fell 1.3 million barrels last week after three straight weeks of builds. Reports that U.S. drillers added rigs this week tempered the gains ahead of the settlement.

In the U.S. market, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil futures CLc1 settled down 7 cents, or 0.2 percent, at $47.96 a barrel.

Brent crude futures LCOc1 settled down 17 cents, or 0.35 percent at $48.95 a barrel.

    The Grand Turk
Turkey fires 15,000, shuts 375 NGOs in latest coup purge
The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
on Tuesday dismissed over 15,000 state employees and ordered the closure of 375 associations within the state of emergency imposed after the July failed coup, in a purge that shows no sign of slowing.

More than 100,000 people have already been suspended or sacked so far in a crackdown on those alleged to have links to coup-plotters while dozens of media outlets have been shut down.

In the latest government decree published on Tuesday, 7,586 personnel working in the police, including police chiefs and commissioners, were dismissed.

Meanwhile 1,956 soldiers and personnel in the air force and navy were sacked while another 403 were removed from the gendarmerie, which looks after domestic security.

Thousands more were dismissed in government ministries and state institutions, including nearly 3,000 officials in the interior ministry and related institutions.

In total, 15,726 people have been dismissed under the latest decrees.

The dismissals are permitted under the state of emergency, which was extended by another three months in October, and was originally imposed in the wake of the coup.

But its scope has been vehemently criticised by the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
    and human rights
One man's rights are another man's existential threat.
    activists.

The decrees, published in the latest issue of the official gazette, also ordered the closure of 375 associations across the country working on issues ranging from rights to culture to women.

Critics have claimed that the crackdown goes well beyond the suspected coup plotters and targets anyone who has dared show opposition to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
"The closure of nearly 400 NGOs is part of an ongoing and systematic attempt by the Turkish authorities to permanently silence all critical voices," said Amnesia Amnesty International's Europe Director, John Dalhuisen.

Amnesty said the groups closed included lawyers associations working on preventing torture, women's rights groups working against domestic violence and local NGOs helping refugees.

Among those ordered closed is the leading Ankara-based children's rights NGO Gundem Cocuk (The Agenda is Children). The decrees also ordered the closure of nine provincial press outlets and 19 health institutions.

Erdogan indicated in a speech on Tuesday that the purges would continue, saying that not all Gulen supporters had been rooted out of Turkish institutions.

"We know that the state has not been entirely cleared of this treacherous network.

"They are still in our armed forces, our police organizations, inside our judiciary, inside different state institutions," he said.

In a separate development on Tuesday, Turkish authorities detained 20 staff at Silivri jail outside Istanbul accused of using the Bylock messaging app that Ankara says was specially developed by Gulen supporters for the coup plot. Those detained include the head of the prison, named as H.T., it added. Hundreds of suspects rounded up after the coup are being held in the jail.

Trump taps billionaire investor Wilbur Ross for commerce secretary
[AP] WASHINGTON (AP) -- Wilbur Ross, the billionaire investor considered the "king of bankruptcy" for buying beaten-down companies with the potential to deliver profits, is President-elect Donald Trump's choice for commerce secretary, a senior transition official said.

The official isn't authorized to publicly discuss the matter and requested anonymity.

Reputed by Forbes to be worth nearly $3 billion, Ross would represent the interests of U.S. businesses domestically and abroad as the head at Commerce. His department would be among those tasked with carrying out the Trump administration's stated goal of protecting U.S. workers and challenging decades of globalization that largely benefited multinational corporations.

With a Florida home down the road from Trump's Mar-a-Lago retreat, the 78-year-old Ross played a role in crafting and selling the president-elect's tax-cut and infrastructure plans. Ross has suggested that much of America is disgruntled because the economy has left middle-class workers behind and says Trump represents a shift to a "less politically correct direction."

"Part of the reason why I'm supporting Trump is that I think we need a more radical, new approach to government -- at least in the U.S. -- from what we've had before," Ross told CNBC in June, referring to Trump's blunt tone and sweeping promises to reinvigorate economic growth.

Trump wins Michigan two weeks after Election Day
[Washington Examiner] Two weeks after Election Day, Donald Trump has won Michigan, the Detroit Free Press declared Wednesday night.

The Michigan secretary of state on Wednesday posted vote counts certified at the county level from the contest that was too close to call since people voted on Nov. 8, and showed President-elect Trump ahead of Democratic rival Hillary Clinton by 10,704 votes. That was less than his 13,107 vote lead that was initially recorded.

"Many people have asked about Michigan's process for counting ballots and certifying election results. Please be aware that all 1,521 Michigan cities and townships completed ballot counting and reported unofficial results by the morning of Wednesday, Nov. 9," according to a statement on the secretary of state's website. "The county canvassing boards, as they do after every election, then began their work to review and certify the results from each precinct."

Trump received a total of 2,279,543 votes, while Clinton got 2,268,839, according to the Michigan Board of State Canvassers' unofficial count. Behind the two front-runners were Libertarian Gary Johnson at 172,136 votes and the Green Party's Jill Stein at 51,463 votes.

Betsy DeVos (sister of Erik Prince) picked as education secretary (Video)
[CNN] President-elect Donald Trump tapped Betsy DeVos, a top Republican donor and school choice activist, to head the Department of Education, the Trump transition team announced Wednesday.

Trump met with the billionaire donor and conservative activist this weekend at his golf club in New Jersey, where he hosted a slew of potential Cabinet appointees. Trump offered DeVos the position on Tuesday and she accepted the same day, a senior Trump transition official told CNN.

"Betsy DeVos is a brilliant and passionate education advocate," Trump said in a statement Wednesday. "Under her leadership we will reform the US education system and break the bureaucracy that is holding our children back so that we can deliver world-class education and school choice to all families."

But Trump is also already drawing fire from both sides of the political spectrum for his pick. The largest teacher's union in the country slammed DeVos within an hour of the announcement for her advocacy of charter schools and school voucher programs, while conservatives quickly pointed out DeVos' association with groups supporting the Common Core education standards, which Trump has vowed to nix. DeVos moved quickly on Wednesday to quell any uproar on the right over her association with pro-Common Core groups, saying, "I am not a supporter -- period."

DeVos chairs the American Federation for Children, a group that promotes charter school education, and also served on the board of the Foundation for Excellence in Education, a group led by former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush -- one of Trump's GOP primary opponents -- which promoted both school choice and the Common Core education standards.

And so while Trump vowed to eliminate Common Core, his pick of DeVos has begun to scare conservative opponents of the standards.

DeVos insisted in the post on her website that she supports "high standards, strong accountability and local control."

Charter schools and vouchers diminish teacher union influence. Glad the Common Core nonsense also got straightened out by Devos. Trump received some of his greatest applause at his rallys when he said he would get rid of Common Core--a further weakening of teacher's unions. There has been a mention of requiring the unions to collect their dues on their own rather than use school resources.

    India-Pakistan
Pakistani air force chief warns India against full-scale war...
...The problem here is that the Indian military will hand the Paks their a$$ in about three days, and then the Paks will have a choice: fold or go nuclear. Place your bets, please...
ISLAMABAD ‐ Pakistan's air force chief on Thursday warned archrival India against escalating the dispute over Kashmir into full-scale war, urging New Delhi to exercise restraint.

Marshal Sohail Aman's warning came as tensions are soaring between Islamabad and New Delhi over the contested Himalayan territory where Pakistan said Indian fire on Wednesday killed 12 civilians and three soldiers -- the deadliest incident in weeks of border clashes.

Aman said that if Indian forces escalate the crisis, Pakistani troops "know full well how to deal with them."

On a visit to Islamabad, British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson held talks with his Pakistani counterpart, Sartaj Aziz.

Afterward, Johnson expressed concern over the Kashmir escalation and appealed to the two South Asian countries "to maintain a positive dialogue" to resolve the dispute of the territory, which is split between Pakistan and India and claimed by both in its entirety.

The two neighboring countries have fought two of their three wars over Kashmir, which remains one of the world's most intractable conflicts.

In Wednesday's escalation, Indian artillery and shelling hit several villages along the Line of Control that divides the Pakistan- from India-controlled sector of Kashmir, killing 12 civilians. Three Pakistani soldiers were later also reported killed in an exchange between the two sides.

The exchange came a day after the mutilated body of an Indian soldier was found in Kashmir. The Indian military did not say whether the soldier was killed by Pakistani soldiers or Kashmiri rebels, who have been fighting against Indian rule since 1989.

Also Thursday, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held a high-level security meeting to review the Kashmir situation.

"We will never abandon our Kashmiri brethren in their freedom struggle," Sharif later said, according to a government statement.

Two more polio cases in Sindh confirmed
[DAWN] KARACHI: Two baby girls from Badin and Sujawal districts were detected to have been suffering from the crippling disease of polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set...
virus, officials at the Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) for Polio in Sindh confirmed on Tuesday.

The total number of polio victims detected this year in Sindh has reached seven, while 59 cases have been reported since 2013.

Sindh EOC coordinator Fayaz Jatoi said both the girls, aged 18 months and 11 months, had received multiple doses of polio vaccine. "The 18-month-old girl from Sujawal had received one polio dose during routine and six during special campaigns, while the other baby had three doses of polio vaccine during routine immunisation drives and five during our campaigns," he added. One of them had an onset of polio on Nov 3, as her both legs were affected, the official said.

Their stool samples had been sent to the National Institute of Health, Islamabad. Unfortunately, they had been confirmed as the fresh cases of polio," said Mr Jatoi.

Officials said 59 polio cases had been reported in Sindh since 2013. Ten cases, eight in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
and two elsewhere in Sindh, were reported in 2013, while the figure increased to 30 in 2014 when Karachi accounted for 23 cases and the remaining seven surfaced in other parts of Sindh. Twelve cases were documented last year.

The national tally of polio cases has climbed to 18.

Trump Names Haley, A Foreign Policy Novice, As Envoy To U.N.
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla./WASHINGTON (Reuters) ‐ Donald Trump on Wednesday named South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, a former critic with little foreign policy experience, to be the next U.S. ambassador to the United Nations at a time of uncertainty over America’s international role under his presidency.

Haley, one of two women chosen so far for a job in Trump’s Cabinet, is "a proven dealmaker, and we look to be making plenty of deals. She will be a great leader representing us on the world stage," the Republican president-elect said in a statement.

The 44-year-old daughter of Indian immigrants, Haley represents what some Republicans hope could be the new face of their party: a younger, more diverse generation of leaders.

Haley took Trump strongly to task during the presidential campaign over his harsh rhetoric about illegal immigration and for not speaking forcefully enough against white supremacists.

Trump has chosen mostly male conservatives so far for senior positions as he shapes his administration following his victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton in the Nov. 8 election. Trump takes over from Democratic President Barack Obama on Jan. 20.

Also on Wednesday, a spokesman for former Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson said Trump had not offered the retired neurosurgeon the post of housing and urban development secretary, disputing a Wall Street Journal report, which the newspaper later corrected.

"Trump did not make an offer," Carson spokesman Armstrong Williams told Reuters. "He asked him to consider HUD. Nothing has been offered and no decision has made."

The Journal, citing two people familiar with the deliberations, also reported that Trump was expected to pick billionaire investor Wilbur Ross as commerce secretary.

In a video message released ahead of the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, Trump said he hoped the holiday would be an occasion for Americans "to begin to heal our divisions" following a "long and bruising political campaign."

"Emotions are raw and tensions just don’t heal overnight," Trump said. "Now begins a great national campaign to rebuild our country and to restore the full promise of America for all of our people."

    - Has kicked a big hole in the 'good ol' boy'
    network down here.
    - Unashamedly and unabashedly loves her country (Unlike the current office holder)
    - Underestimated at one's own peril.

On the other hand, the President-elect has made a smart call -

    - She's female, minority, and the child of an immigrant family.
    - She's now IN the administration, and that's just taken her out as a possible primary threat in '20 in the event things go south.
    - If she does even remotely well, she'll be well positioned to go after Lindsey Graham's seat.

Red Electrons: Army Rapid Capabilities Office Fights Russian GPS Jamming, Cyber, EW
[BreakingDefense.com] WASHINGTON: The Army’s new Rapid Capabilities Office is focused like a laser on Russian threats to Army networks: both cyber attack (hacking) and electronic warfare (jamming), in particular against the GPS signal on which US forces rely.

I’ve written before that a $100 million boost to electronic warfare might be an early priority for the new RCO, whose charter is to speed new equipment into service over a one to five-year time-frame, and whose agenda is personally set by Army Secretary Eric Fanning and the Chief of Staff, Gen. Mark Milley. What I did not realize until I sat down with Maj. Gen. Walter Piatt, the RCO operations director, was how thoroughly EW, cyber, and GPS -- three closely related fields -- dominate that agenda.

Indeed, they dominate it to the exclusion of other high-profile Army projects. Air defense against small drones? "That’s not being run by our office, but we’re certainly watching the progress of that," Piatt told me. The anti-ship variant of the ATACMS artillery missile? We’re "not in charge of that one, (but) certainly a supporting effort."

Likewise, I hadn’t realized how closely the RCO was focused on Russia, as opposed to, say, China, North Korea, Iran, or the Islamic State. While Gen. Milley has explicitly said Russia is the most dangerous of the big five threats, it’s a fraught question whether that focus will survive the rise of Donald Trump. The President-Elect has expressed his admiration for Vladimir Putin and appointed a National Security Advisor, retired Army Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn, who says we should collaborate with Russia against the Islamic State, which they see as the real No. 1 threat.

City renames 2 holidays deemed culturally insensitive
[Fox] The city of Bloomington, Indiana, has renamed Good Friday and Columbus Day because the names imply a cultural insensitivity, according to the Bloomington Herald-Times.

The new, more politically-correct names will help make the holidays more inclusive, the mayor said.

The change was made Friday by Mayor John Hamilton, who sent a memo to city employees.

"We are terrifically proud of our diverse workforce at the city," Hamilton wrote. "That diversity makes us stronger and more representative of the public we proudly serve. These updated names for two days of well-merited time off is another way we can demonstrate our commitment to inclusivity."

The Herald-Times reports that "all city employees receive paid time off for Columbus Day, a federal holiday ... and Good Friday, the Friday before Easter Sunday. In the future, the city will be calling these paid days off 'Fall Holiday' and 'Spring Holiday.'"

Good Friday is not a federal holiday but is observed by many Christians as the day Jesus Christ was crucified by the Romans.

Columbus Day is a federal holiday noting the arrival of the Italian explorer in the Americas, on Oct. 12, 1492. Columbus Day has come under fire from liberals who claim the discovery of the Americas by Europeans led to centuries of oppression of Native Americans.

Dissing and dismantling the holiday became more a left-wing cause when the late Howard Zinn, a political science professor at Boston University, spent the first chapter of his 1980 book, "A People's History of the United States," flaying Columbus.

I wonder if he has links to support using those adjectives. Oh, it seems he forgot homophobic and anti-Semitic, I believe.
He said that while he remains committed to his liberal clients, he "will no longer do business with any person that is a registered Republican or supports Donald Trump."
Seems to me there are many more conservative business owners than liberal. Except for maybe those insanely rich dictators in Silicon Valley.
"If you are a Republican, voted for Donald Trump or support Donald Trump, in any manner, you are not welcome at 1st In SEO and we ask you to leave our firm," Mr. Blanchfield wrote in the letter, which he shared Wednesday with his 35,000 Twitter followers.
Trump is a populist. You're about to find out what that means, and half of you isn't going to like it.
"We ask you, our current clients, to please respond to this letter and confirm where you stand politically. If you are a Republican or support Trump, we will no longer serve you," he wrote. "To our Democrat and Progressive clients, we want to recommit to you that we will continue to work diligently to improve your internet marketing results in this quickly changing world."
"I hope this doesn't hurt too much."
In an interview this week with KOB, a local NBC News affiliate, Mr. Blanchfield said he had a "moral obligation" to stand up for what he believes is right.
. . . and get your butt shot off.

#8  Watched Tucker Carlson dismember this self-righteous dipsh*t last night. Evident that he made a calculated business decision to get attention from 1/2 of the possible customers with his "virtue signaling" and obvious paranoia. He thinks the parallel is 1933 Germany.

Marines Pound USS America's Deck With F-35Bs: VIDEOS!
ABOARD THE USS AMERICA: Somewhere near San Diego on the Pacific Ocean, the Marines have been putting F-35Bs and their pilots through a series of qualifications and tests with an eye to better understanding just how the small-deck carriers, the F-35s, V-22s and combat-ready Marines can best function together.

With a careful eye on both China and Russia, the Marines spent today (Sunday) executing what they are calling the Lightning Carrier Proof of Concept Demo.

#1  I initially read that as "Lightning Proof Carrier" demo, as if they are testing the decks by slamming the things into it.
