Gravity Claims Another Victim as Graduate Dies Trying to Climb MIT Dome
[Breitbart] A Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) graduate died while attempting to climb the university’s 150 foot-high dome.

Nicholas Paggi, 24, died after he slipped and fell while trying to climb MIT’s roof near the dome, CBS Boston reported. His mother, Helga Paggi, said her son climbed the dome as part of a prank.

Paggi was working as a software engineer and had graduated in 2015 with "degrees in computer science & engineering and physics," MIT’s student newspaper the Tech reports.

"He was one of the greatest computer programmers I’ve worked with," Dr. Rich Fletcher said. "He was a great mentor to all students, it’s such a loss to all of us."

"Paggi had been involved with MIT’s D-Lab, which prototypes technologies to alleviate poverty," and remained involved with the project as a consultant after graduation.

Fletcher also said Paggi was known for his sense of humor.

The university president also acknowledged the former student’s death.

65 years later, Soviet officer faces prosecution in Ukraine
[IsraelNationalNews] Prosecutors in Ukraine initiated a murder investigation against a Jewish former Soviet officer who is suspected of killing a nationalist in 1952.

The General Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine opened the probe against 94-year-old Boris Steckler on April 18, the Ist Pravda news website reported last week based on documents it obtained from the National Advocacy Center, a nationalist and anti-Russian not-for-profit group.

Steckler is accused of killing Neil Hasevych, an artist who was a member of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists, or OUN, which fought during the first half of the 20th century against Soviet domination.

Leaders of OUN briefly collaborated with Nazi occupation forces before turning against them.
Once they ran out of Jews to kill.
Steckler is accused of throwing a grenade into a bunker where Hasevych and several other underground fighters were hiding.
Now, that's a war crime - ask any UN expert.
Following a bloody revolution in 2014 that unleashed a wave of nationalist sentiment in Ukraine, the state has celebrated the legacy of various personalities from OUN and its military wing, the UPA, including commanders who are accused of responsibility for the murder of thousands of Jews and Poles.
Following in the hallowed tradition of Bohdan Khmelnytsky.

#1  Steckler is accused of throwing a grenade into a bunker where Hasevych and several other underground fighters were hiding. Underground fighters? Anyone who uses a grenade against underground fighters is at risk of being prosecuted for a war crime? That is low a standard to achieve since it would include soldiers who use grenades while fighting against terrorism.

#2  Khmelnytsky led an uprising against the Ukrainian oligarchy(1648–1654) which resulted in the creation of a state led by the Zaparoschi Cossacks of Ukraine. In 1654, he concluded the Treaty of Pereyaslav with the Tsardom of Russia. The Khmelnytsky Uprising led to the deaths of an estimated 18,000 [100,000 Jews. The old Cossacks vs the Jewzzz thing. It goes way back.

#4  Ynet has more on the man's history:

Ukrainian authorities have decided to open a criminal investigation into a 94-year-old Jewish WWII hero who is being accused of killing a Nazi collaborator.

Col. Boris Steckler was warned that he is expected to stand trial for killing a Ukrainian nationalist in 1952.

Steckler was a senior officer in the Soviet Army and after the war was appointed as an officer in the KGB and was responsible for capturing Nazis and collaborators in western Ukraine.

During a battle in the Rivne Oblast in western Ukraine, Steckler was involved in a confrontation with nationalists who cooperated with the Nazis. During the confrontation, a man by the name of Neil Hasiewicz, who was a propagandist and district judge during the war, was shot and killed.

Local nationalist groups recently filed a complaint against Steckler, accusing him of responsibility for the assassination of Hasiewicz—a fact that Steckler does not deny.

In an unprecedented move, this is the first time Ukrainian authorities have sought to arrest a person who worked against Nazi collaborators during and after the Second World War.

Steckler was recognized as a local war hero and is regularly invited to the parades commemorating the victory over the Nazis. He was wounded during the war and received countless medals for courage.

China-Japan-Koreas
Defiant North Korea hints at nuclear tests to boost force 'to the maximum'
[Reuters Seoul] North Korea suggested on Monday it will continue its nuclear weapons tests, saying it will bolster its nuclear force "to the maximum" in a "consecutive and successive way at any moment" in the face of what it calls U.S. aggression and hysteria.

U.S. President Donald Trump has said a "major, major conflict" with North Korea is possible over its nuclear and ballistic missile programs, while China said last week the situation on the Korean peninsula could escalate or slip out of control.

In a show of force, the United States has sent the nuclear-powered USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier group to waters off the Korean peninsula to join drills with South Korea to counter a series of threats of destruction from North Korea, formally known as the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

"Now that the U.S. is kicking up the overall racket for sanctions and pressure against the DPRK, pursuant to its new DPRK policy called 'maximum pressure and engagement', the DPRK will speed up at the maximum pace the measure for bolstering its nuclear deterrence," a spokesman for North Korea's foreign ministry said in a statement carried by its official KCNA news agency.

North Korea's "measures for bolstering the nuclear force to the maximum will be taken in a consecutive and successive way at any moment and any place decided by its supreme leadership," the spokesman said.

Reclusive North Korea has carried out five nuclear tests and a series of missile tests in defiance of U.N. Security Council and unilateral resolutions. It has been conducting such tests at an unprecedented rate and is believed to have made progress in developing intermediate-range and submarine-launched missiles.

Japan sends Izumo warship to protect US supply vessel
[BBC] Japan has dispatched its biggest warship, in the first such operation since it passed controversial laws expanding the role of its military.

The helicopter carrier Izumo is escorting a US supply vessel within Japanese waters.

The US ship is heading to refuel the naval fleet in the region, including the Carl Vinson aircraft carrier group. North Korea has threatened to sink the Carl Vinson and a US submarine, amid rising tensions in the region.

It also carried out a failed missile test on Sunday, despite repeated warnings from the US and others to stop its nuclear and missile activity.

#1  North Korea has threatened to sink the Carl Vinson and a US submarine

So they are down to one missile and one torpedo?
Posted by: Bobby || 05/01/2017 7:48 Comments || Top||

#2  Stephen Green's take:

Today’s mission shows that Japan’s attitude towards the military has moved far away from its postwar constitutionally mandated pacifism, and towards something more assertive.

What the report left unsaid is that while the Izumo and her sister ship Kaga are classed as “helicopter destroyers,” they could conceivably carry and launch F-35B VTOL fighters — which would put Japan back in the power-projection business for the first time since 1945. Only this time, hand-in-hand with the U.S. Navy.

Beijing, which had previously protested that the Izumo is an “aircraft-carrier in disguise,” is on notice.

‘Miserable end’: N. Korea threatens to sink US nuclear submarine in S. Korea
[RT] North Korea has promised to sink a US submarine currently deployed in South Korean waters if the Americans take provocative action. The statement comes shortly after Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
said he won’t be "happy" if Pyongyang conducts another nuclear test.

North Korea’s state-controlled Uriminzokkiri news website warned on Sunday that "the USS Michigan won’t even be able to rise to the surface when it will meet a miserable end and turn into an underwater ghost."

North Korea’s nuclear deterrent will assure that American aircraft carriers, nuclear submarines, and other military hardware will be "shattered into pieces of molten metal" if they threaten Pyongyang, the article read.

The deployment of the USS Michigan submarine and the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier group near the Korean peninsula "is aimed at further intensifying threats against our republic," it added.

According to the article, recent statements coming from the Trump administration indicate that Washington is close to implementing a strategic scenario in which an actual military confrontation is a real possibility.

Mob in India lynches two Muslims over suspected cow theft
[Reuters] A mob in India beat to death two Muslims who were accused of trying to steal cows for slaughter, police said on Monday, the latest incident in a surge of violence blamed on hardline Hindu groups.

Some Hindu groups are demanding a ban on the slaughter of cows, which many Hindus regard as sacred.' Activists have been making their demands more vociferously since Prime Minister Narendra Modi, of the Hindu-nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party, came to power in 2014.

Police said the latest attack happened on Sunday in a village in the northeastern state of Assam. About 20 people attacked the two Muslim youths, beating them with sticks, after they were accused of plotting to steal cows.

"When the first police team reached the spot we found the two youths in critical condition after being severely beaten," district police chief Debaraj Upadhay told Reuters by telephone.

Blasphemy accused rejects allegations
[DAWN] A blasphemy accused has rejected the allegations leveled against him by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and sought his release on bail.

The FIA tossed in the clink
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
the accused in connection with a blasphemy case last month.

He was the fourth persons the investigation agency arrested since March 2017 after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) took notice of sacrilegious material on the social media.

The accused claimed that he was in no way connected with the blasphemous content and one of his videos, which allegedly included blasphemous content, had been prepared and uploaded on the social media by someone after making changes to it.

The IHC had earlier ordered the registration of cases against alleged blasphemers, constitute a Joint Investigation Team (JIT), place the suspects’ names on the Exit Control List (ECL) and utilise state machinery, if needed, to remove the blasphemous content from social media.

The court had also ordered the authorities concerned to include sections relating to blasphemy and pornography in the Prevention of Electronic Crimes.

The IHC also asked the legislature to amend the existing laws to give equal punishment to those who level false blasphemy accusations.
