Sheriff: Las Vegas shooter had lost money, been depressed
[Ynet] The man who killed 58 people at a country music festival in Las Vegas last month had been depressed after losing a significant amount of money in the past two years and that may have been a "determining factor" in the worst mass shooting in modern US history, the city's sheriff said.

Gunman Stephen Paddock, a 64-year-old high-stakes gambler and real estate investor, had lost a "significant amount of wealth" since September 2015, which led to "bouts of depression," Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo said in an interview this week with Las Vegas news station KLAS-TV.

"This individual was status-driven, based on how he liked to be recognized in the casino environment and how he liked to be recognized by his friends and family," Lombardo said. "So, obviously, that was starting to decline in the short period of time, and that may have had a determining effect on why he did what he did."

#9  Gambling losses result in year-long firearms spending spree?

I thought the guy was a gun collector:

http://time.com/money/4969462/las-vegas-shooter-stephen-paddock-gambler-real-estate-guns/
Altogether, Paddock owned over 50 guns. He purchased at least 33 guns, the vast majority of which were rifles, in the 12 months before the mass shooting, an ATF official told CBS News.

As to why he did what he did, note that this guy wasn't a run-of-the-mill individual. He did everything differently. How many people switch careers like he did? How many make fortunes in real estate, then decide to become professional gamblers? The odds are that when he snapped, he also did it his way. Lots of times, the only explanation is people go down blind alleys, the same way that some people become blind drunks or dope fiends.

Manafort lawyer plans to challenge evidence 'obtained by search warrant, subpoena'
[The Hill] Lawyers for former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort on Friday filed court documents announcing their team's intention to challenge the constitutionality of evidence seized from Manafort's home during a raid in July.

Attorneys representing Manafort filed a response to a judge's order to inform the court about possible pretrial motions, saying that they will challenge evidence that was "improperly" obtained "by search warrant, subpoena, or otherwise."

FBI agents conducted a no-knock raid of Manafort's home in July, during which prosecutors first told the former Trump campaign chief to expect an indictment. That indictment was handed down Monday, when Manafort was charged with tax fraud and money laundering.

The charges filed Monday are related to Manafort's work for a pro-Russia political party in Ukraine and stem from Robert Mueller's special counsel investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. The investigation is ongoing.

The indictment accuses Manafort of "knowingly and intentionally" conspiring to "defraud the United States by impeding, impairing, obstructing and defeating the lawful governmental functions of a government agency, namely the Department of Justice and the Department of the Treasury."

President Trump reacted to the news of his former aide's indictment by claiming that the alleged crimes were committed long before Manafort joined the Trump campaign.

"Sorry, but this is years ago, before Paul Manafort was part of the Trump campaign. But why aren't Crooked Hillary & the Dems the focus?????" Trump tweeted Monday.

"Also, there is NO COLLUSION!" he tweeted.

No bond for man who shot himself in the doinker while robbing hot dog stand
[CHICAGO.SUNTIMES] A 19-year-old man who shot himself in the penis after allegedly holding up a South Side hotdog stand Tuesday won’t be going home when he’s released from the hospital.
"We got good news and we got bad news..."
Terrion Pouncy remained at Christ Hospital recovering from his injuries on Thursday, missing a bond hearing at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse on two counts of armed robbery.
"The good news is that you ain't dead."
Pouncy was tossed in the slammer
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
at the Oak Lawn hospital not long after he was found slumped on the steps of a home across the street from a West Pullman restaurant that reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
... home of Al Capone, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel,...
Police say he robbed at gunpoint about 6 a.m. on Halloween.
"My doinker! There's a hole in my doinker!"
Judge Stephanie Miller ordered him held without bond.
"To the dungeon with him!"
[Laughter, applause]

Pouncy was unable to run further because of the pain of a self-inflicted gunshot wound suffered when he tried to adjust the .38-caliber pistol in his waistband as he ran off after robbing Maxwell Street Express at 116th and Halsted, Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Erin Antonietti said in court.
"Feet, don't fail me now! [BANG!] Aaaiiieee! I am unmanned!"
Pouncy had pulled out the gun and demanded cash from two employees, pressing the gun to the head of a 39-year-old worker, Antonietti said.
"Gimme yer dough!"
The victim, who had been passing a bucket filled with grease over the counter, called for his co-worker to hand over the cash from the register.
"Give 'im the dough, Herbert, or I am undone!"
As they passed their wallets and a stack of singles to Pouncy, the bucket tipped and bills went flying, Antonietti said.
"My bucket of grease!"
"Our money!"
"My money!"

Still pointing the gun at the workers, Pouncy stooped over to collect the cash, Antonietti said. Shifting the gun in his waistband
"Is the safety on when it's up or down?"
as he ran out, he apparently pulled the trigger,
[BANG!]
"Up, not down."

firing a bullet that struck him in the penis, Antonietti said.
"Ow. Ow. Ow. Please don't fall off! Ow. Ow."
One of the restaurant employees, 39, then began wrestling with Pouncy as he tried to run away, before he staggered out into the street.
"I got him in a headlock, Herbert! Call Law Enforcement!"
"Ow. Ow."

Surveillance cameras captured video and audio of the robbery, and showed Pouncy struggling to make it across the the street, stop on a bench, and make his way to the steps of a nearby house before collapsing, Antonietti said.
[THUD!]
Police recovered the wallets Pouncy had allegedly stolen from the two men, as well as the .38 caliber pistol.
"Ooo! That's gotta hurt!"
"Ow."

Pouncy’s blood-stained boxers matched the underwear he had on in the surveillance video, which clearly showed the pattern on the fabric when the teen bent over to collect the money that had fallen to the floor, Antonietti said.
"Terrion! Pull your pants up!"
"It's the style, Mom!"

SEIU Ousts Senior Leaders for Abusive Behavior Toward Women
[BLOOMBERG] The Service Employees International Union, the second-largest labor union in the U.S., has fired a senior staff member and accepted the resignation of another following allegations of workplace harassment at the organization.

"These personnel actions are the culmination of this stage of the investigation which brought to light the serious problems related to abusive behavior towards staff, predominantly female staff," an SEIU spokeswoman said in an email.

Kendall Fells, one of the top national leaders of SEIU’s "Fight For 15" campaign, has resigned, according to a person familiar with the actions. Fells declined to comment. bankrupt, increasingly impoverished, reliably Democrat, Detroit

In October, SEIU also fired Caleb Jennings, who had spearheaded Fight For 15 in reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown

David Corn investigated for inappropriate workplace behavior
[POLITICO] Mother Jones magazine’s editor and chief executive acknowledged on Thursday that they investigated Washington bureau chief David Corn for inappropriate workplace behavior three years ago, warning him about touching female staffers and insensitive descriptions of sexual violence, and would now probe the allegations further in light of two emails written by former staffers in 2014 and 2015 and obtained by POLITICO.

One of the emails, written in 2015 by a former staffer outlining concerns she had heard from other women in the Washington office, said Corn, now 58, made "rape jokes," "regularly gave [several women] unwelcome shoulder rubs and engaged in uninvited touching of their legs, arms, backs, and waists," and "made inappropriate comments about women’s sexuality and anatomy." The other email, from 2014, was by a former female staffer who claimed that Corn "came up behind me and put his hands and arms around my body in a way that felt sexual and domineering."

CEO Monika Bauerlein and editor-in-chief Clara Jeffery said they had not seen these emails, which were shared several years ago between colleagues and union representatives. But the magazine’s leaders acknowledged dealing with allegations of inappropriate touching and comments around the time the emails were written, and said they believe Corn has stopped those behaviors.

Corn, in a statement to POLITICO, said that neither his comments nor his touching of colleagues was in any way sexual.

Egyptian Lawyer Says It's a Man's 'Duty to Rape' Women Wearing Revealing Clothes
[PJMEDIA] An Egyptian lawyer appearing on a popular news satellite news program said that it is a man's "national duty" to rape a woman wearing revealing clothing, like ripped jeans.

Nabih al-Wahsh, a prominent conservative in Egypt, also said "it is a patriotic duty to sexually harass" women scantily dressed.

The New York Post reported that "his disgusting comments were made during a TV talk show called 'Infrad' on satellite channel al-Assema.The panel were debating a draft law on prostitution and 'inciting debauchery' when Wahsh made the jaw-dropping comments."

During the debate Wahsh said, "Are you happy when you see a girl walking down the street with half of her behind showing?" He added, "I say that when a girl walks about like that, it is a patriotic duty to sexually harass her and a national duty to rape her."

MLB's Only Kneeler Had an Ugly Meltdown as Police Arrested Him
[ConservativeTribune] Bruce Maxwell made quite a name for himself in September when he became the first MLB player to kneel during the national anthem prior to a game.

Since then, he’s garnered quite a bit of attention — but not for anything positive.

Last month, Maxwell, 26, claimed a pro-Trump restaurant employee refused to serve him because of his kneeling. However, later reports indicated Maxwell may have lied about the encounter. The sever in the incident told Fox News that Maxwell made up the entire story.

As if that was not enough negative attention for Maxwell, the catcher allegedly pointed a gun in the face of a woman delivering an order for Geno’s Pizza and Cheesesteaks when she brought the order to his home.

According to the police report, Maxwell opened the door and pointed a gun at the woman’s face on Oct. 28. She asked if he was “Bruce,” for whom the order was placed. Maxwell told her not to worry about the gun and eventually put the gun down and took the pizza.

When the woman made it back to her car, she called the police.

Maxwell reportedly had a meltdown after being placed in cuffs. He began yelling and, according to TMZ, “began making anti-police statements and utilized excessive profanity.”

One officer reportedly said Maxwell contradicted his version of the events that transpired over the evening.

Maxwell was booked on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and disorderly conduct, according to AZCentral. The catcher was reportedly bailed out of jail by Monday morning.

1. Lad is doing some weird shiat that is going to come out soon.

2. Start kneeling.

3. When it hits the fan, claim repression/discrimination/retaliation for the kneeling.

US citizen arrested in Zimbabwe, accused of insulting Mugabe
[ABC] Zimbabwe police have charged a United States citizen with subversion for allegedly insulting President Robert Mugabe on Twitter as a "sick man," lawyers said Friday. The offense carries up to 20 years in prison.

It was the first arrest made since Mugabe last month appointed a minister for cybersecurity, the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights said, a move criticized by activists as aimed at clamping down on social media users. Zimbabwe was shaken last year by the biggest anti-government protests in a decade.

Police picked up 25-year-old Martha O'Donovan on Friday morning in the capital, Harare, U.S. Embassy spokesman David McGuire told The Associated Press.

Police accuse O'Donovan of tweeting "We are being led by a selfish and sick man," from the Twitter handle @matigary, said her lawyer, Obey Shava with Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights. The tweet had a photo illustration of the 93-year-old Mugabe with a catheter, the charge sheet said.

O'Donovan has been charged with undermining the authority of or insulting the president, Shava said. She later said O'Donovan faced additional charges of subverting a constitutionally elected government.

"I deny the allegations leveled against me as baseless and malicious," O'Donovan said in a signed statement shown to the AP.

O'Donovan had been working with local social media outlet Magamba TV, whose target audience is youth, Shava said. The outlet describes itself as producing "satirical comedy sensations." O'Donovan, a graduate of New York University, has called herself a manager for Magamba TV and a "media activist." Earlier this year, she presented a talk at a re:publica digital culture conference on "How Zimbabweans Rebel Online."

#3  One must recognize that 60,000 to 80,000 years of tribal, majority rule was torn asunder by the evils of colonialism. It may take several more decades for change agents such as Mugabe, Mandela, and Obama to put things right.

O'Donovan is of course a klueless racist.

China-Japan-Koreas
Beijing ridicules Seventh Fleet after warships' collisions
[AsiaTimes] A semi-submersible ship ‐ reportedly Chinese-built ‐ has been deployed to tow the badly damaged USS John S McCain back to its home port in Yokosuka, Japan, after the 8,300-ton guided-missile destroyer’s collision in August that claimed the lives of 10 of its crew, and left another five injured.

Virginia-based Navy Times has reported that the destroyer USS O’Kane will be on ad hoc secondment to the Western Pacific to fill the "void" left by the McCain and Fitzgerald, as the two damaged warships will have to undergo an emergency refit and will remain out of service for at least a year.

Pro-Beijing military commentators say the big holes in the two destroyers caused by the early-morning collisions ‐ said to be the size of a tennis court ‐ have laid bare the Pentagon’s flabby oversight and discipline, stressing that both the McCain and the Fitzgerald used to patrol the South China Sea and "provocatively" intrude on Beijing’s sovereignty.

The fact that seamen on the sinking Fitzgerald, after a blackout that downed all electronic devices, had to use a private cellphone to send SOS signals has evoked much derision among fans of the Chinese military, as they jeered that ships of the ace US Seventh Fleet couldn’t even sail properly at night and therefore posed a grave danger to other vessels, as such collisions occurred not just once but twice.

Some have gone so far as to call the US Navy a "paper tiger" on the sea.

Hu Bo, of Peking University’s Ocean Strategy Research Institute, told Guangzhou-based Southern Weekly that the Seventh Fleet and the Pacific Fleet as a whole, the largest of the forward-deployed US fleets, might be overstretched by a host of drills and peacekeeping operations in response to the region’s heightened geopolitical tensions, ranging from the North Korea nuclear and missile crisis to the South China Sea territorial row, as well as boosting defense for its treaty allies, in particular South Korea and Japan.

"The fleet finds itself in a manpower and hardware crunch even though its ships and soldiers have to patrol more waters on a more hectic [schedule].... Frontline soldiers are tired and they receive inadequate training," Hu said.

Indian police arrest man over rape of 18-month-old girl
[DAWN] A man accused of raping a toddler in front of his own children has been placed in durance vile
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
in India, police said on Friday, the latest in a series of sex attacks against minors in the country.

The 18-month-old girl had gone to play with her neighbours' two children ─ aged two and four ─ when she was allegedly raped by their father in their one-room home on Wednesday, police said.

The girl, who is recovering at a New Delhi hospital, was found dumped outside her house bleeding and in pain by her mother after the alleged assault.

The suspect was arrested on Thursday, said Harinder Singh, an officer in the Aman Vihar neighbourhood where the assault apparently took place.

He has been charged under India's Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, which means he could face life imprisonment.

The head of the Delhi Commission for Women Swati Maliwal met the child and said she was in a stable condition after undergoing surgery.

"The poor child cannot even speak, she is just laying there," Maliwal said.
