Michelle Obama Declares Herself America's ‘Forever First Lady'
[NTKNetwork] Former First Lady Michelle Obama offered herself as Americas "forever First Lady," at a college signing day event at Temple University in Philadelphia on Wednesday.

"We have such high hopes for you. See, I am not one of those doubters. I know that you have everything it takes to succeed," Obama said. "I know you are me, and if I can be standing here as your forever First Lady, then you can do anything you put your mind to."

The crowd erupted into applause at this line.

What Smugglers Left Behind At The US-Mexico Border Might Have Liberals Screaming "Build the Wall!"
[BB4SP] BORDER PATROL OFFICERS were shocked after discovering a sedated live baby tiger inside an abandoned duffel bag on the US-Mexico border. Officials say the cub had been heavily sedated and was very dehydrated when they found it. The cub is lucky to be alive after being stuffed into a duffel bag by three illegals who attempted to bring it over the border. If this doesn’t show just how wide open our border is then nothing will.

The exotic animal smuggling trade probably loves our open border and has used it to transfer animals to the US many times. There was another case from August of last year where a teen tried to smuggle a Bengal tiger cub across the border (see below). Who knows where this tiger came from. It’s interesting that animal rights activists like PETA are so silent on this clear case of animal abuse.

Man Dies After Rattlesnake Bites Him Twice In Osage County
[News on 6] A Green Country man has died after being bit twice by a rattlesnake. Game wardens are warning people to be careful when they head outdoors to enjoy the warmer weather.

An Oklahoma game warden says as many as 8,000 people get bitten by a snake each year in the U.S., but only a few die. Relatives of 57-year-old Barry Lester say he caught snakes all the time, but they never expected him to be a victim.

"Although death by snake bite is rare, very rare, you can get bit easily," said Tulsa County Game Warden Carlos Gomez.

That’s what happened to Lester. Lester was driving in Osage County with his niece and nephew when he saw a rattlesnake crossing the road.

Gomez says Lester stopped his truck and tried to catch the snake. A mistake that cost him his life. "He eventually did catch it and put it in the toolbox of his truck, but not before it bit him twice on the hand," said Gomez.

You’re required to have a license before handling wildlife, even a snake. You should also be equipped with the proper gear, such as a snake hook. But the best thing to do, Gomez says, is to avoid it.

"Pay attention to wherever you’re walking and don’t mess with them if you don’t have to," stated Gomez.

Little did he know he was committing a crime.

Paris burns as rioters attack buildings to mark International Workers' Day
[DailyMail] ...torch vehicles and loot McDonald's: French capital sees some of the worst May Day madness as protests erupt around the world.

Workers in several different countries took to the streets to march for the rights of labourers around the world

Demonstrators in Paris, France, destroyed shops and threw rocks at police who responded with tear gas

Protests in Istanbul, Turkey, took an ugly turn as demonstrators clashed with armoured riot police officers

Workers in Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Cambodia, Russia and even England also held celebrations of the day

Riot police in Paris arrested more than 200 anti-capitalist demonstrators today as they went on the rampage to mark May Day.

Water cannon and tear gas were used against the protestors, many of whom were anarchists belonging to the Black Bloc movement.

‘They have mainly targeted places of business, including branches of McDonalds and banks,’ said a Paris police spokesman.

French unions put the number of peaceful protesters at Tuesday’s main May Day rally at about 55,000, though police put it at just under 20,000 - a figure well down on previous years.

Texas Shootout With ICE - Suspect Gets Totally ICED
[Breitbart Texas] Officials report that a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer engaged in a shootout with a suspect in San Antonio on Tuesday morning. The suspect allegedly fired on the immigration officers who were attempting to serve a warrant. One officer sustained an injury during the incident and the suspect was killed.

ICE officials said that and Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officer became involved in a shooting on Tuesday.

"ICE can confirm the subject is deceased and that a firearm was recovered from the scene," ICE officials said in a written statement provided to Breitbart Texas.

FBI Special Agent-in-Charge Christopher Combs told reporters in San Antonio that ERO officers attempted to serve a warrant on a suspect at about 7 a.m. Tuesday morning, Fox 29 reported. The suspect drove away‐leading the officers on a short pursuit. Following the pursuit, the suspect fired a single shot at one of the ERO officers, Combs stated. One of the ERO officers returned fire striking and killing the suspect.

One of the ERO officers sustained minor injuries, the San Antonio Express-News reported. It has not been confirmed if the suspect shot the officer or if he sustained some other form of injury.

"Per agency protocol, ICE’s Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) is reviewing the incident," ICE officials stated. "The agency has no further comment at this time."

Investigators recovered the suspect’s firearm and FBI agents have launched an investigation into the assault on a federal officer case.

Fox 29 reporters described the suspect as an armed male. No other information on the suspect has been released.
ICE and the Federal Marshal Service are the only two Federal Agencies I still have a soft spot for.

Guatemalan Special Forces Colonel Laundered Money for MS-13, Say Police
[Breitbart] A top special forces colonel for the Guatemalan Army is facing various charges in his own country for allegedly laundering money for the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang.

Last month, the Guatemalan government announced the results of a large-scale operation aimed at targeting various cells or cliques of the gang known as Mara Salvatrucha. The operation, "Regional Shield 2," led to the arrest of 71 top operators. Authorities announced the capture of Colonel Ariel Salvador De Leon, a top-ranking security official and at one time the vice-director for logistics for the Ministry of Defense. The official is believed to have helped top MS-13 financial operators launder large amounts of money and have amassed 13 million Quetzals or roughly $2 million in an eight-year span. The colonel’s salary is 10,000 Quetzals.

According to Guatemala’s El Periodico, De Leon had been a Kaibil (Guatemalan special forces) and received training on numerous occasions from U.S. Southern Command. Some of the instruction dealt with countering drug trafficking. Despite what appeared to be a prestigious military career, De Leon is believed to have helped a cell of MS-13 called “Hemster Locos” launder illicit funds. The money came primarily from extorted local businesses. One of the ways described by investigators dealt with the sale of cars taken from the U.S. to Guatemala. The cars were fixed at a local shop and then sold off.

As part of their investigation, authorities claim that De Leon met with Emigdio Roda Dias, a top financial operator for MS-13. Roda Dias answered directly to Jorge Arturo “ El Fantasma” Lagos Reyes, the leader of Hemster Locos and a member of the Council of Nine, which rules over MS-13.

Trump says plans to meet 'Rocket Man' in next 'couple of days'
[The Hill] President Trump said Tuesday the location and date of his meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will be announced in the next "couple of days."

"We want to get peace," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. "We're setting up meetings right now and I think it's probably going to be announced over the next couple of days ‐ location and date."

A number of locations are reportedly under consideration, but Trump has said he would like the meeting to take place in the Demilitarized Zone separating North and South Korea.

"There's something that I thought was intriguing. I think that some people maybe don't like the look of that and some people like it very much. I threw it out today as an idea," Trump said of the site on Monday.

Staging the talks at the demilitarized zone would hold symbolic value. Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in recently concluded historic talks there over denuclearization and formally ending the Korean War.

It would also make it easier for Kim to travel. North Korea’s planes reportedly would need to refuel in order to reach possible sites, such as Singapore.

Trump has said the talks would occur in May or early June.

#6  The waste disposal is often more important and the total costs need to be considered.
I worked at a dairy plant (fluid milk, sour cream & dips) that had a lot of packaging waste (cardboard boxes, mostly). IIRC, the waste disposal would charge the company $8/lb to haul it off to a landfill.
A few employees had a private deal where they would sort through cardboard boxes every night. Usable boxes would go to a local company that would resell them for reuse and the rest was going to pulp recycle. People quit/retired and it started to become a hassle for everyone.
The company bought some hydraulic compactor balers. Bales would be accumulated in a storage trailer and shipped off to a pulp mill when the trailer filled up. The recycling company paid enough to cover the shipping costs. Net gain to the company over landfill fees.
TL/DR: just getting rid of the burnable waste locally might be all the incentive you need.

#8  Labor costs of processing the waste seems to be prohibitive in the developed West. Additionally the reprocessed material seems to lack a market. For example, what would it take to have a plastic certified "food contact safe" if the recycle stream contained plastic containers that had contained petroleum products, poisons, or pesticides? There is only so much of a market turning recyclable plastic into bins to collect recyclable plastic...

Calgary: man's body found trapped behind women's toilet in shopping mall
[Guardian] Police in Canada are investigating after a maintenance worker found the body of a man trapped behind the wall of a women’s toilet in a Calgary shopping mall.

The grim discovery was made on Monday, when the worker removed a wall panel to repair a toilet that wouldn’t flush.

"If you were to look at the toilet, there’s a panel behind it so that when people move it would automatically flush," a Calgary police spokeswoman, Emma Poole, told reporters. "When they removed that panel, they found a deceased person behind that wall."

Fire crews and police arrived at the Core mall in Calgary to investigate, taping off sections of the food court on the fourth level of the shopping centre. Provincial medical examiners removed the body from the scene nearly six hours after the discovery. An autopsy is scheduled for later on Tuesday, a police representative told the Guardian.

Calgary police confirmed the body was an adult male, but have not yet released a cause of death.

"Despite the circumstances of where the body was located, investigators do not suspect foul play and the death remains classified as undetermined," said police in a statement.

At the moment, the women’s washroom remains an active crime scene. While there is no clear explanation as to how the body became lodged behind the wall, police confirmed on Monday that officers are examining the ventilation and air duct systems.

Police said they could not yet comment on how long the body had been behind the toilet, pending the results of the autopsy.

President's lawyer Ty Cobb to leave Donald Trump legal team during Russia investigation
[USA Today] WASHINGTON ‐ White House lawyer Ty Cobb is leaving President Trump's legal team, an administration official said Wednesday.

Cobb informed Trump he plans to retire, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity pending a formal announcement.

The New York Times reported that Washington attorney Emmet Flood would replace Cobb, who told the paper "it has been an honor to serve the country in this capacity at the White House. I wish everybody well moving forward."

Cobb's departure means that Trump's legal team has almost completely turned over since the start of the investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller.

Mueller Warned POTUS Lawyers About Possible Subpoena If He Doesn't Talk
[Daily Caller] A new report indicates that Special Counsel Robert Mueller warned President Trump’s lawyers about a possible subpoena for the commander in chief if he refused to talk to Mueller’s team.

The Washington Post reports that Trump’s lawyers "insisted he had no obligation to talk with federal investigators probing Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential campaign."

In response, Mueller reportedly brought up the possibility of issuing "a subpoena for the president to appear before a grand jury."

The Post also reports that Trump lawyer John Dowd (who later resigned) told Mueller, "This isn’t some game.

"You are screwing with the work of the president of the United States," he reportedly added.

This is a major escalation from the special counsel, whose nearly year-long investigation has still not uncovered any evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

#2  There is little chance Trump would provide Mueller with any evidence of collusion, or even obstruction of justice. There is a big chance they would catch him in a 'lie' - a contradiction with something he previously said, or with something for which they have evidence. They can do that with ANYONE!

'Triggering' Libs: Georgia TV Viewers butt hurt over GOP Gubernatorial Candidate's Shotgun Ad
[Hot Air] Brian Kemp’s running in the Republican primary for governor of Georgia. The good news is that there’s no clear-cut frontrunner; the most prominent candidate is probably Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle. The bad news is that, as Georgia’s secretary of state, Kemp himself is only a little better than anonymous. He needs to get his name out there. How do you grab voters’ attention and earn some populist cred by making the local liberals mad at you?
A video worth watching.

Badin journalist arrested for sexually abusing teenage boy, say police
[DAWN] Sindh police on Tuesday tossed in the calaboose
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
a news news hound, associated with a private TV channel, over charges of sexually abusing a 17-year-old boy in Badin.

A case was registered against the sexual offender under Sections 337J (causing harm by poison), 411 (receiving stolen property) and 377 (sodomy) of Pakistain Penal Code on the complainant of the victim's elder brother.

The complainant told police that the journalist in question deceivingly took the boy to a deserted place near the railway track in Badin on Monday, where he reportedly drugged the victim and sexually abused him.

The victim's brother further alleged that the arrested journalist was also involved in sexually abusing other young boys in their locality.

SSP Badin Irfan Ahmed Samoon, when contacted, confirmed the registration of the FIR and the subsequent arrest of the news news hound. Model cop shoppe SHO Mohammad Qasim Panhwar made the arrest.

Samoon said police had already issued a letter to the boy for his medical check-up from Indus Hospital in Badin.

#11  Man's pregnancy test was positive. He was not pregnant. He had an advanced type of cancer, whose cells produced the same hormone that makes the pregnancy test positive. He only lived a couple of years after this, but my test got him the earliest possible focused treatment. The ribbing I got from the other ER staff was something - before the test. After the test report, it was vewy vewy quiet for the remainder of the shift. Most medical students are taught a little about this type of tumor, and most forget it quickly.

Home Front: Culture Wars
Kayne West: I Want To Apologize To George Bush
Kanye West joins the ranks of Joy Villa, Diamond and Silk and a hand full of other high profile black "love not hate" media in trying to change their culture to get more done with honey than with vinegar.
[Breitbart] Kanye West revealed in a TMZ interview on Tuesday that he wanted to apologize to George W. Bush for saying in 2005 that the president did not care about black people in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Kanye West said he was always told not to apologize to Bush, but that he recently saw the former president pushing his father’s wheelchair at Barbara Bush’s funeral in March, and he felt sympathy for him.

"Do you know how bad I would want to go to George Bush and say I’m sorry for hurting you. I was an artist I was hurting when I went up to the telethon," Kanye explained. "I said something in the moment, but when I look at you as a Dad, and a family member, I’m sorry for hurting you."

West repeated in his interview with TMZ founder Harvey Levin that he wanted to treat people like humans and spread more love across the country.

"Does God want you to love everyone? ... If you start thinking about love and start feeling love and thinking about forgiveness, then you can overcome things," Kanye said.

Love has been the theme of Kanye’s recent free thought campaign, in which he’s challenging people to break free from there "thought prisons."

The "808s & Heartbreak" singer also slammed the fake news media in his recent TMZ interview, referring to it as "torture porn" for losers.

#5  It's one thing to apologize for making Bush feel bad, but Kanye should research the incident. His anger was because of stories coming out about refugee cannibalism, rape and murder in the superdome and Bush doing nothing about it. Of course none of the stories were true. Kanye should use his platform to spread the truth on that as part of his apology.

Kayne West: Obama Was 'Opioids' To The Black Community
[Breitbart] Rap Superstar Kanye West described former President Barack Obama as the "opioids" of the black community, during an interview with TMZ’s Harvey Levin on Tuesday.

"Obama was our opioids. It made us feel like everything was good," he said during the interview.

Kanye West said Obama was held in such a high regard that it alienated himself from the lower class.

"The class war is one of the reasons why Trump won, because Obama was so high class that it stopped speaking to the middle and the lower class," he said. "He’s so classy, and to break the class system, we have to start by loving ourselves."

West said that he felt that Hollywood and the media had created a perception that black men had to be perfect, just like Obama, to be successful.

"This perfect idea of a superhero with Obama, or Michael Jordan ‐ I want to show people that it is ok to screw up, and you still can make it through things," he said.

West said that his friends had been texting and emailing him repeatedly about the things that Trump had done, but he reminded them that Obama had done some of the same things.

"Black people have a tendency to focus and march when a white person kills a black person or wears a hat, but when it’s 700 kids being killed in Chicago it’s O.K. ... There’s been more focus and more marches about whites killing blacks than kids in Chicago killing each other," he said.

West admitted that he got addicted to opioids after he got liposuction plastic surgery and they gave him opioid painkillers as part of his recovery.

Science
3-D printed food could change how we eat
The problem is the area of what we don’t know that we don’t know, which could lead to interesting diseases because of missing micronutrients, just as now all sorts of health conditions are improved by megadoses of vitamin D —or just sitting in the sun with bare arms and legs for twenty minutes in the middle of the day. I’ll stick with real food, thanks.
[SpaceDaily] Imagine a home appliance that, at the push of a button, turns powdered ingredients into food that meets the individual nutrition requirements of each household member. Although it may seem like something from science fiction, new research aimed at using 3-D printing to create customized food could one day make this a reality.

Jin-Kyu Rhee, associate professor at Ewha Womans University in South Korea, will discuss his new research and the potential of 3-D printing technology for food production at the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology annual meeting during the 2018 Experimental Biology meeting to be held April 21-25 in San Diego.

"We built a platform that uses 3-D printing to create food microstructures that allow food texture and body absorption to be customized on a personal level," said Rhee. "We think that one day, people could have cartridges that contain powdered versions of various ingredients that would be put together using 3-D printing and cooked according to the user's needs or preferences."

3-D printing of food works much like 3-D printing of other materials in that layers of raw material are deposited to build up a final product. In addition to offering customized food options, the ability to 3-D print food at home or on an industrial scale could greatly reduce food waste and the cost involved with storage and transportation. It might also help meet the rapidly increasing food needs of a growing world population.

For the new study, the researchers used a prototype 3-D printer to create food with microstructures that replicated the physical properties and nanoscale texture they observed in actual food samples. They also demonstrated that their platform and optimized methods can turn carbohydrate and protein powers into food with microstructures that can be tuned to control food texture and how the food is absorbed by the body.

"We are only in early stages, but we believe our research will move 3-D food printing to the next level," said Rhee. "We are continuing to optimize our 3-D print technology to create customized food materials and products that exhibit longer storage times and enhanced functionality in terms of body absorption."

#4  Decades ago I read a very old medical article from Britain about an outbreak of vitamin B12 deficiency among vegetarian Hindu immigrants, who were well to do. In the UK they were eating the same kinds of foods they ate at home, so the investigation delved into the differences between things like rice in the UK and rice in India. Conclusion was that the feces of rodents was commonly mixed in with Indian rice, supplying a previously unknown Vit B12 source in a diet that otherwise was free of B12 altogether. UK rice was not so contaminated.
There are ingredients labels, and then there are the REAL ingredients.

#5  OK, so suppose we switch over to chemical food. Suppose we get nuked or the power gets knocked out. What then? I prefer society's food to be walking around and pulled out of the ground until these risks are solved.

#6  If we get nuked or the power goes out for a few years, I suspect the need to feed people will get drastically smaller than at present. Dead people don't eat.

First human rated SpaceX F9 to launch May 7th
Block 5 is the human and all DOD rated Falcon 9.
I should note that both DOD and NASA require 5 DOD and 7 NASA launches of this block before they will grant the rating. This is the first launch of this block.
This will be the first launch of Block 5.

Reddit on Block 5 Falcon 9 changes

If there are any errors, questions, or feedback please post them!

Titanium grid fins for unlimited re-uses.

New landing legs with the ability to be retracted by the ground crew instead of having to be removed after landing. These legs will also be black instead of white.
Changes to the turbopumps to prevent turbine wheel microfractures. This was never considered a risk by SpaceX but NASA asked SpaceX to fix the issue and from all reports they have.

Replace paint with thermal protection barrier coating for the purposes of re-use.
Improved heat shielding around the engines to improve re-usability.

The octaweb (structure that holds the engines) will be bolted instead of welded, to reduce time for inspection/repair/refurbishment and to allow easy change from F9 to FH side booster.

The interstage will be black instead of white - likely unpainted carbon fiber (saves time and weight).

Upgraded fairing, Fairing 2.0, which is very slightly larger and has changes to allow for recovery and re-use. It is also easier to make and lighter than the previous fairings.

SpaceX's upgraded COPVs (dubbed COPV 2.0) will fly on Block V. This is an upgrade to further reduce the potential for an incident like Amos-6.

Another improvement in thrust for the Merlin 1D engines (roughly 10%).

The rocket will be man-rated, meaning it will be certified to carry crew. NASA has set the bar at 7 successful flights of the rocket for certification.

Upgrades to active components such as valves, as well as many other parts to allow for many re-uses.

Improved flight control, angle-of-attack, and control authority which should allow for landings with less fuel (and therefore the ability to land after lofting heavier payloads).
