U.S. Attorney John Durham seeks interviews with two CIA officers over Russia investigation origins
[Washington Examiner] The Justice Department intends to interview two CIA officers for its review of the origins of the Russia investigation.

U.S. Attorney John Durham's team wants to talk to at least one senior counterintelligence official and a senior analyst who examined Russia's role in meddling in the 2016 election, according to the New York Times.

Although formal requests have not yet been submitted, CIA Director Gina Haspel informed senior officials that her agency will cooperate, but will work to ensure that sources, methods, and intelligence provided by allies would be protected.

Attorney General William Barr tasked Durham, a U.S. attorney from Connecticut, with leading the inquiry focused on the origins of the counterintelligence investigation into President Trump's campaign, which the FBI began in the summer of 2016.

[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • Yujing Zhang is charged with lying to the Secret Service to enter Mar-a-Lago

  • The 33-year-old Shanghai business consultant wanted to dismiss public defenders and represent herself

  • And a U.S. District Judge found her to be competent and granted her request

  • That's despite the fact she struggles with legal concepts and spoken English

  • Zhang faces up to six years in prison and $250,000 in fines if convicted

  • In March she is said to have told a receptionist that she was at the resort for a Chinese-American event in the evening but no such event was scheduled

  • She was further questioned by agents who say they found four cellphones, a laptop, an external hard drive and a thumb drive containing computer malware

AWR Hawkins Destroys ‘Silencer Control' Myth (short video)
[Breitbart] After the recent shooting in Virginia Beach, when the shooter was found to have a suppressor on one of his two guns, Breitbart News’ AWR Hawkins is back to debunk the myth that gun suppressors are "silencers."

Good info, poor video. Your results (with a .45 or subsonic ammo) may vary. Take the time to clear your weapon prior to attaching any sound or flash suppressing device.

#1  I get Herb level flamed on gun forums for this, but I stand by what I'm saying right here: suppressors cost the gun rights movement momentum that rightly should have gone to national carry reciprocity legislation. I agree that suppressors don't belong under NFA regulation. (I actually agree NFA should be outright repealed.) That said, suppressors are a shiny toy that took too many gun rights people's eyes off the ball.

I agree with M. Murcek as well. Thank Mr. Bond for raising public awareness of sound suppression which has little to no association with a weapon's carry-ability any more than specialty sights.

#7  Let's stipulate that guns are indeed horrifying, dangerous and icky, but consider: Sometimes an overwhelming show of force results in a peaceful outcome. Fight and flee might be an option if only one cop is on the scene, but when there are four with weapons drawn, surrender might be a better, safer option. At least if you want to live to shoplift another day.

Narsingdi man kills woman, rapes corpse
[Dhaka Tribune] Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested a man for killing a young woman and having intercourse with her dead body in Narsingdi.

Police recovered the body of Sabina Aktar, 21, from a banana field in Kazir Char village of Shibpur upazila on Saturday, two days after she went missing.

Her body was subsequently sent for an appointment with Dr. Quincy at Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, which revealed the signs of post-death intercourse, said police sources.

A special team of RAB, pinpointing the victim’s mobile phone, located and arrested the prime suspect, Saiful Islam, 28, from the upazila’s College Gate area on Tuesday night.

RAB 11 Captain Lt Col Kazi Shamsher Uddin disclosed the development at a press briefing in Narsingdi Press Club on Wednesday.

During an investigation into the woman's suspicious death, RAB interrogated Saiful, who reportedly confessed to committing the crime and disclosed details.

According to his confession, Saiful, after divorcing his first wife, had two children with his second wife.

However,
the difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits...
after meeting Sabina, he concealed being a father and seduced her with a promise of marriage.

During their relationship, Saiful apparently tried several times to have sexual relations with Sabina, but she declined.

On Thursday, the couple met and decided to get married. On their way to a relative’s house, Saiful lured Sabina to a deserted banana field and tried to rape her. But, as she started screaming, Saiful suffocated her with his shirt and killed her. Then in a heinous act, he raped Sabina’s corpse and left it there.

He took Sabina’s mobile phone and purse in an attempt to destroy traces of evidence.

Following his confession, RAB, recovered the phone, purse and the shirt used to choke the victim.

Venezuela: hyperinflation leads to new banknotes for second time in a year
[THEGUARDIAN] Venezuela is releasing new banknotes for the second time in less than a year, the central bank said on Wednesday, after hyperinflation eroded the effects of an August 2018 monetary overhaul meant to improve availability of cash.

China-Japan-Koreas
Taiwan prepares for over-the-horizon attacks
The Taiwanese army has shifted the focus of its annual anti-Chinese invasion drill from thwarting possible beach landings by the People’s Liberation Army and setting up beachheads to combating over-the-horizon strikes.

Taiwanese papers reported that almost all of the island’s advanced weapons systems would be featured and tested in a large-scale anti-landing drill in southern Pingtung county, with all branches of the military involved in the annual Han Kuang anti-invasion exercises.

The air-sea war-game in Pingtung mocks a PLA amphibious invasion with air support. The first stage of the drill last week saw the deployment of F-16 fighter jets, plus Apache and Cobra helicopters, Knox-class frigates, as well as the Thunderbolt-2000, a multiple-launch rocket system developed with the island’s indigenous talent.

A number of all-female squads equipped with self-propelled guns were among the 1,000 troops that took part in the Pingtung chapter of the Han Kuang exercise.

A Defense Ministry official told Taiwan’s Central News Agency that over the past few decades the drill has focused on fending off beach landings by the PLA from across the Taiwan Strait. But, that emphasis has now been broadened because China has prioritized naval and airforce expeditionary tactics plus over-the-horizon amphibious assault capabilities that now pose a greater threat along Taiwan’s entire coastline.

He said the navy and air force would get a boost in the overall defense budget, and one example was Taiwan’s bid to procure more than 60 F-16V fighters from Lockheed Martin, a deal under review by the Pentagon and the US State Department.
The J-20 is again set to grab much attention at the upcoming Zhuhai Airshow. Photo: Weibo
The PLA has a small squadron of J-20 jets in service. Photo: Weibo

The PLA’s ace stealth fighter, the J-20, and the Russian-made S-400 surface-to-air missiles sent to China recently have been identified by the Taiwanese military as assets that would be most detrimental to the self-governed island.

The jet fighter and missiles will feature in the mock battle in the Han Kuang exercise, and more drills will be conducted off the island’s Pacific coast in the second half.

The Pacific coast may become a potential "Achilles’ heel" ‐ a weak spot ‐ now that Taiwan has effectively fortified the west coast and garrisoned much of its weaponry and defense capabilities there. The possibility of a PLA "attack at the back", especially with the J-20 and the S-400, cannot be ruled out and future drills aim to help Taiwan beef up its defense on its "strategic rear."

The U.S. Military Just Inked a Enormous New F-35 Deal
[Air Force Magazine] The Defense Department and Lockheed Martin have reached a tentative agreement on the next lot of F-35s, with options for a multi-year buy worth about $34 billion for 478 aircraft total, including foreign partners and customers.

The agreement covers production Lot 12, with options for Lots 13 and 14. The first lot will include 157 aircraft, according to a Pentagon statement. The "framework" of the deal would lower the cost of an F-35A to $80 million in Lot 13, a year earlier than initially planned. Under Lot 11, the aircraft cost $89.2 million each.

"This is a historic milestone for the F-35 enterprise, and marks the largest procurement in the history of the department," Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition Ellen Lord said in a statement.

"I am proud to state that this agreement has achieved an estimated 8.8 percent savings from Lot 11 to Lot 12 F-35As," Lord said, as well as an average reduction of 15 percent "across all variants from Lot 11 to Lot 14." The deal "symbolizes my commitment to aggressively reduce F-35 cost, incentivize industry to meet required performance, and to deliver the greatest capabilities to our warfighters at the best value to our taxpayers," she added.

By law, the US cannot enter a multi-year purchase agreement until after a program has entered full-rate production. The US could not participate in the first year of the "block buy," but international partners can, and have already signed up to do so. Block buys or multi-year buys commit the government to buying a designated number of aircraft. Armed with this commitment, the contractor can make more economical buys of materials and components, and more efficiently hire and deploy its workforce.
