[Breitbart London] The writer regarded as the greatest Arabic language poet alive today has said Islam cannot be modernised.
Adunis Asbar, known by his pen name Adonis, is a Syrian-born writer often considered one of the greatest living poets of the Arabic language. He has come under criticism for comments he made recently about Islam before receiving the Erich Maria Remarque Peace Prize, named after the famous pacifist and author of the classic World War One novel 'All Quiet on the Western Front'.
In an interview with Die Welt he talked about one of the most pressing issues in Germany since the migrant crisis began, the idea of being able to integrate migrants from predominately Muslim countries into European societies.
Being raised a Muslim himself and having one of the greatest understandings of the language of the Quran, Adonis said: "You can not reform a religion. If they are reformed, [the original meaning] is separated from it. Therefore, modern Muslims and a modern Islam is already impossible. If there is no separation between religion and state, there will be no democracy especially without equality for women. Then we will keep a theocratic system. So it will end."

Put another way, a modern or moderate Islam would require an entirely different doctrine such that it would cease to be Islam in any sense but name.

The moderate muslim is one who is not really Muslim but fears to leave the religion. When folks talk about Mulsims these are not the people conservatives are talking about.

I met Herr Remarque in Switzerland one day while I was wandering around the back waters of that beautiful country.
He drove this magnificent pre-war Lancia sedan about the size of a B-17.
When he found out I was in the Army, he offered to autograph a copy of his book for me. Luckily and coincidentally I was reading "All's Quiet on the Western Front" at the time and had it in my car. I have a paperback copy of the book in a box in my office autographed by the old gentleman.
I don't think pacifist fits. A pacifist is someone who will not fight no matter what. Anti-war is what he is. You can be anti-war and not be a pacifist.

Without Shariah Law, essentially what is Islam?
I thought about this. An empty shell. Ergo, it cannot be used to un-duely influence, Coerce, force dictatorial, power or tax people for being themselves.
The moderate muslim is one who is not really Muslim but fears to leave the religion. When folks talk about Mulsims these are not the people conservatives are talking about.
And Herein lies the matter that matters. So, what shall fill the vacuum of Islam? I sure wonder.
{NY Post] Gratuitous. Nasty. Petty. Spiteful. Insulting. Just plain rude. When the rhetoric of a major party's leading presidential candidate falls to this level, we should be scornful.
So, how is it OK when it isn't just a presidential candidate, but a president, who does it?
Donald Trump's policy of demeaning and snarking his political opponents has been a favorite habit of President Obama for the last eight years. Obama is perhaps the first president who believes that leading the country and playing to the beliefs of the extremists in his own party amount to the same thing, and like Trump fans, Obama fans are motivated in large degree by sheer hatred.
They love to hear their idol channel their rage by bashing people they don't like.
Obama's latest, silent insult -- leaving a spokesman to explain he had better things to do on a Saturday than attend the funeral of a 30-year justice of the Supreme Court -- isn't surprising when you consider the mean-spirited things he says virtually every time he steps in front of a microphone.
This week Obama spokesman Josh Earnest bashed Sen. Chuck Schumer, who objected to cuts in counterterrorism funding for New York. Earnest said, in essence, why listen to this fool on anything if he opposed the Iran deal, especially since "most Democrats" were in favor?
Police Commissioner Bill Bratton noted, accurately, that this was pure politics -- the president was punishing New York to get back at Schumer.

I prefer that he didn't despoil Scalia's funeral, making it all about himself, when he obviously couldn't stand the man or the principles he held dear - like love of America and the Constitution as written

Maybe upchuck Schumer learned a lesson but I doubt it. He watched Obama trash others and did nothing but support Obama policies until the Iran deal.
