Europe
An Avoidable Catastrophe
h/t Instapundit
...Europe’s migration crisis has mostly been covered from the "human interest" perspective, with the perverse proliferation of tragic images and emotive narratives amplified by social media. This collective content stream has made it seem primarily a humanitarian crisis. But that is false.
Instead, what we are seeing is the unending monetization of human misery, a phenomenon as complete as it is cynical. By necessity, it has been complemented by an infectious institutionalization of irresponsibility--something that has not failed to affect geopolitics. This is why the ramifications of the migration crisis are so serious for Europe, America, and many other countries.
Countless reports have shown ways in which migration is monetized. Everyone gets something: the human trafficking networks that provide transport; the criminal networks that sell forged (and real) travel documents; the governments and humanitarian NGOs that receive handsome donations from both public and private funds; the media that attract huge audiences (and advertising revenue) by publishing images of human despair; the clever villager who sells a bottle of water for fifty cents extra.

Ted Cruz: Closet Pentecostal
Maybe. Maybe not. Here it is for your consideration.
While Ted Cruz proudly proclaims he is an Evangelical Christian, his campaign takes pains to hide the truth that Cruz and his pastor father, Rafael Cruz are Pentecostal Christians, a fact further hidden by having Ted and Heidi Cruz’s belong to the congregation of First Baptist Church, a Southern Baptist church in Houston, as their home church.

Both Cruz’s parents, his father Rafael a Cuban-born immigrant, and his mother Eleanor, born in Wilmington, Delaware, grew up in Catholic families. Both were among the millions of that left the Catholic Church since the 1960s to embrace Pentecostalism, a Christian movement estimated to make up 4.4 percent of the U.S. population, accounting for some 13 percent of evangelical churches in the United States.

Holy Spirit’s "Purifying Fire"

The name "Pentecostal" derives from the feast of the Pentecost, typically celebrated fifty days after Easter, and identified in the Acts of the Apostles 2:1-31 as the day when the Holy Spirit descended in "purifying fire" upon the Apostles of Jesus Christ, inspiring them to go forth from hiding in fear to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Pentecostals believe the Apostles of Jesus were aided by the Holy Spirit’s "gift of tongues," in what Pentecostals consider as "baptism by the Holy Spirit," deriving from 1 Corinthians 12:14, that gave the Apostles the ability to speak in a "God-enabled prayer language" that Pentecostals believe even today allows the unintelligible human utterances of an Pentecostal evangelist to be understood by foreigners who do not speak the Pentecostal evangelist’s language.

Heidi Nelson Cruz, Ted’s wife, is the daughter of Seventh-day Adventist missionaries, explaining why she spent part of her childhood traveling with her parents to places like Kenya. "Speaking in Tongues" Religion reporter Sarah Pulliam Bailey, writing in the Washington Post on March 25, 2015, was of the first to recognize Ted Cruz’s 2016 presidential campaign logo and the purifying tongue-of-fire logo used commonly to identify Pentecostal churches.

Here is Ted Cruz’s 2016 presidential campaign logo:

Here is the logo of the Church of Pentecost:

The symbol derives from Acts 2:3, writing about the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles, "They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them."

Sarah Palin’s nomination as vice president put Pentecostalism into the spotlight, when the press revealed that from the time she was a teenager until 2002, Palin attended a church affiliated with the Assemblies of God that the Pew Research Center in an analysis published on Sept. 12, 2008, described as "the largest Pentecostal Christian denomination in the U.S."

The Pew Research Center went on to note that Pentecostalism "emphasizes such practices as speaking in tongues, prophesying, divine healing and other miraculous signs of the Holy Spirit, which it believes are as valid today as they were in the early Christian church."

"Ted is the anointed one"

Rafael Cruz is a pastor with Purifying Fire International Ministry, although in January 2014, as Ted Cruz was preparing his presidential swing, Rafael Cruz scrapped the group’s website after various blogs began identifying the ministry as rooted in "a radical Christian ideology known as Dominionism or Christian Reconstructionism."

Dominionism calls on anointed Christian leaders to take over government to make the laws of the nation in accordance with Biblical laws. Rafael Cruz, at the Pastor Larry Huch’s New Beginnings mega-church in Bedford Texas, outside Dallas, on Aug. 26, 2012, in a Dominionist sermon proclaimed his son, Ted Cruz, to be the "anointed one," a Dominionist Messiah who would bring God’s law to reign.

At a Dominionist pastor’s meeting held at the Marriott Hotel in Des Moines, Iowa, on July 19 and 20, 2013, the following "anointing prayer" was read over.

So to pull all this logic together, God anoints priests to work in the church directly and kings to go out into the marketplace to conquer, plunder, and bring back the spoils to the church. The reason governmental regulation has to disappear from the marketplace is to make it completely available to the plunder of Christian "kings" who will accomplish the "end time transfer of wealth."

Then "God’s bankers" will usher in the "coming of the messiah."

The government is being shut down so that God’s bankers can bring Jesus back. In an editorial published in the Washington Post on Feb. 4, on the heels of Cruz’s victory in the Iowa GOP primary, John Fea of the Religion News Service published an op-ed piece noting the frequent references Ted Cruz makes in stump speeches to his father "the traveling evangelist" Rafael Cruz.

"During a 2012 sermon at the New Beginnings Church in Bedford, Texas, Rafael Cruz described his son’s political campaign as a direct fulfillment of biblical prophecy," Fea wrote. "The elder Cruz told the congregation God would anoint Christian ‘kings’ to preside over an ‘end-time transfer of wealth’ from the wicked to the righteous. After this sermon, Larry Huch, the pastor of New Beginnings, claimed Cruz’s recent election to the U.S. Senate was a sign he was one of these kings."

Fea noted that Rafael Cruz and Larry Huch preach a brand of evangelical theology known as Seven Mountains Dominionism. The name comes from Isaiah 2:2, "Now it shall come to pass in the latter days that the Lord’s house shall be established on top of the mountains."

Fea commented that Rafael Cruz believes Christians must take dominion over seven aspects of culture: family, religion, education, media, entertainment, business, and government.

By identifying Ted Cruz as the "anointed one," Rafael Cruz has designated his son as what he believes is God’s choice to lead an evangelical coup d’etat, such that, as Fea notes, "Cruz’s campaign may be less about the White House and more about the white horses that will usher in the God’s Kingdom in the New Testament book of Revelation, Chapter 19."

#1  Subtle shades of Christianity baffle me. As long as he's not walking around with rattlers on his arms or forbidding scientific medicines I think the nation can handle whatever flavor he is.

#3  According to his LinkedIn page, the editorialist is a computer etnrelreneur, and a Republican activist since high school. Clearly he hopes the Republican presidential candidate will not be Senator Cruz. From the blurb at the bottom of this editorial:

Jacob Engels, is the Founder of East Orlando Post & Seminole County Post. He is a seasoned political operative who has led numerous statewide political groups and has worked on several high-profile local, statewide, and national races. #7  This article has been the Drudge headline all day. Drudge has been boosting for Trump. Kind of like CNN, Fox, MSNBC and all the others.

#12  All Christians believe in the Pentecost. Conservative Christians understand it for what it was. A major festival in Jerusalem where Jewish people from many near by nations and of different languages of those nations came together to celebrate a major feast. The new Christian church was given the power by the Holy Spirit of the Trinity to speak to these people in their own languages of the recent events associated with the Crucifixion and Resurrection and therefore these people in Jerusalem would go back home and spread the news to the whole world. Thus the establishment of the New Covenant and the news thereof to the world.

The tongues thing is a major misinterpretation I don't consider Ted to be of that level of ignorance, as the author wants people to believe.

India-Pakistan
Will the state ignore a raped, pregnant 13-year-old?
[DAWN] In Larkana, a 13-year-old girl in Class 4 was repeatedly raped and impregnated by her male teacher.

These are the facts of the case; other details can be inferred.

That the rape over many months led to extreme physical pain to the child, that psychologically the girl was restrained to not report it at school because there was no vigilance, that she was traumatised enough to hide her sickness and grief for over 90 days from even her nearest and dearest.

The girl child, in countries like ours, are not taught to be brave, only the boys are. Unwanted sexual advances can only be thwarted if the girl child has guts.

This would mean that the social conditioning of the child would be to jump off monkey bars, run sprints or attempt seventh-grade math problems in Grade 4. That is all reserved for boys. On the contrary, girls are gauged on how politely they nod.

No surprise then that in our pervasive rape culture, even grown women find themselves in uncharted territory when dealing with a man abusing his position of power.

What makes things worse is the government's callous response to such a national catastrophe. There are no reports in the media of anyone from the provincial government visiting the aggrieved family.

The community blames the victim and the family for not protecting the honour of the girl -- as if honour is some kind of ticket stub or super glue bottle.

The problem is also our terminology when the rape of a minor happens. We shy away from calling it a crime; we call it perversion, for which culturally there is widespread acceptance of the boys-will-be-boys code.

Our schools are supposed to be sanctuaries for the already dropping rates of female students. They are supposed to be places where girls can nurse their tired bodies, overworked through housework, and enrich their minds with the possibilities of a bigger and brighter world.

Instead they are breeding grounds for abuse and oppression.

We must stop shaming the victims and consequently shame the perpetrator. By coming forward, the family of the girl have done just that, but if the case is mismanaged -- the family is under pressure to take the accusation back -- then much will be lost.

Not just the fact that Larkana will be bloodied and scarred but a little child will grow up to know that her state failed her.

As did the Council of Islamic Ideology for declaring child marriages as kosher.

As did the society where child marriages and teenage pregnancies occur frequently.

It's estimated that some 20 per cent of girls in Pakistain are married before they turn 18. Most international (read: human) conventions consider individuals under 18 as children.

The reason under 18 girls are children is not because these years are too little to teach girls about empowerment but also because practically and physically their hip bones cannot squeeze out a child.

Nature abhors children giving birth to children.

Underage marriages are just as crass as dogfights. You sit in the audience as a bloodied show is put on.

Except girls suffer silently as per the manual of the literature and oral tradition stories they are fed, where girls revere women who suffer and idealise women who suffer indefinitely.

Given the low conviction rate of rape in Pakistain, it is heartening to see that a sessions court in Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
sentenced a man to 10 years in prison for raping his niece.

In a similar vein, this 13-year-old's rapist must be brought to justice. Her suffering should not be exacerbated with criminal and legal incompetence.

Until she gets justice, her ordeal is one that will haunt this country.
