Electing new sets of criminals will not change things. The only way to fix this without a true (and bloody) revolution is to chop the size and power of the federal government. As long as that power and size is there, it will be used to the advantage of those within it.

Last year the Marine Corps, which often deploys to remote locations, declared its version of the F-35 ready for deployment “without conducting deployability tests of ALIS.”
Evidently they weren't planning to pay attention to maintenance anyway.

This is the previuosly reported here problems.with the software the Israelis are avoiding altogether on theirs.
[DAWN] Pakistain says it desperately wants Lockheed-Martin Block-V F-16 fighter-bombers at $87 million apiece for fighting Death Eaters in tribal badlands such as North Wazoo. An order for eight jets has already been placed. The US Senate is sympathetic; a move to ban the sale was massively rejected by majority vote. Lockheed-Martin, which peddles its deadly wares to all who can pay, has already sold 4,500 F-16s to 25 countries. It must be pleased at this small, but tidy, deal of $700m.
But thoughtful Paks should be worried. Waging an aerial war against your own population is not a good idea. Even if you have to, shouldn’t much cheaper weaponised drones be preferred over advanced fighter aircraft whose real job is to shoot down other planes? A drone, technically known as UAV, is far more precise than any fighter because it can loiter undetected over a target, capture and collect information better, and reduce -- though never eliminate -- damage to innocents. India is currently negotiating with the US for buying 40 Predator drones.

If you see all this from the perspective of US foreign policy existing to provide commercial opportunity for US arms manufacturers, it all makes better sense.
Seriously, if your goal was actually simply peace, why would you sell anything to either side?

[DAWN] THERE was a joke doing the rounds on social media wherein it was said that a Pakistain offshore account holders’ convention was being organised this week at one of London’s most expensive addresses, One Hyde Park.
The obvious reference was to reports or, let’s say, suggestions that two of the country’s top politicians (or their immediate family members) have bought properties in the exclusive development on Knightsbridge with unmatched views of Hyde Park; the first a while ago, and the second rather recently.
