Britain
London's Muslim Mayor Tells American Audience Immigrants Shouldn't Assimilate
[AmericanLookout] As we've seen in the UK, Europe and parts of Scandinavia, one of the problems with large Muslim immigrant populations is that precisely that they don't assimilate.

Some of these countries even have so-called no-go zones where police and firefighters won't go.

Breitbart reports:

London’s Islamist-Linked Mayor Tells U.S. Audience: 'Immigrants Shouldn't Assimilate'

London's Muslim mayor Sadiq Khan has continued his pro-Hillary Clinton tour of the United States by declaring that immigrants into the West should not be forced to assimilate.

His comments come hot on the heels of the Chicago press exposing his connections to radical Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.

Mr. Khan, who was elected to be London’s mayor in May 2016, has also used his trip to claim that Republican candidate Donald Trump is "playing into the hands" of the Islamic State.

His trip runs contrary to the U.S. visit from former UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage, who presented an upbeat message of defeating the political establishment on stage with Donald Trump.

Instead, Mr. Khan insisted: "One of the lessons from around the world is that a laissez-faire or hands-off approach to social integration doesn't work. We need rules, institutions, and support to enable people to integrate into cohesive communities and for the avoidance of doubt, I don't mean assimilation, I mean integration, and there's a difference".

He added: "People shouldn't have to drop their cultures and traditions when they arrive in our cities and countries".

For the record, no one has said that immigrants should drop their culture or forget where they're from. If however, you want to live in America, you need to embrace at least part of American culture.
Correct. We're all a little Irish on Saint Patrick's Day. We're all a little Mexican on Cinco de Mayo. But we also all, everyone of us, shiver a touch recalling the troops at Valley Forge, and we all love baseball, hot dogs and apple pie.

In the great immigration of the late 19th / early 20th century we took in tens of millions of people who assimilated just fine. One part of the story not often told was that each steam ship that brought the immigrants to Ellis Island, on the return trip always had a few people aboard who had tried America and couldn't assimilate. They went back to the old country. There's your real lesson: if you can't or won't become American, you can leave, and god bless.

#3  One of the most economically successful immigration groups has been Asians. For which success they have been labeled by the Left as the "New Whites" cause they chose integration over power*. It's just not here, but back 'home' as the societies adopted 'western' behaviors, the Japanese, South Koreans, Taiwanese, Singapore, and now mainland China have become economically successful. Simply transplanting yourself but keeping to the same culture only insures the oppressions and failures that you left to escape you only bring with you.

* so successful they're actively discriminated against - see the University of California system.

I'm pretty sure some Islamic haven can be found for Khan and his ilk like Syria or northern Iraq to practice their non-assimilation. Be sure to get the GPS coordinates and lock them into a drone for wherever it is that they get dropped off.

Europe
The Terrorism Tax hits Europe
[GlobalGuerrillas] Liz Alderman at the NYTimes reported that terrorism is squashing Europe's first glimmer of recovery since the financial crash. EU economic growth has been halved since spring, with La Belle France now at zero.

Although Europe has suffered terrorism before, this time it's different. Instead of big and relatively infrequent terrorist attacks, these new attacks are small, numerous and geographically dispersed. This change is a big deal, because it makes it possible for hard boyz to turn attacks into "a tax" that depresses economic activity by imposing new costs and changing economic behavior. Here's some of the theory from my 2004 article on it:

A terrorism tax is an accumulation of excess costs inflicted on a city's stakeholders by acts of terrorism. These include direct costs inflicted on the city by hard boyz (systems sabotage) and indirect costs due to the security/insurance/policy/etc. changes needed to protect against attacks. A terrorism tax above a certain level will force the city to transition to a lower market equilibrium (aka shrink). So, what is that level? Here's what they concluded:

Munich Police Prepare for Oktoberfest after Muslim Influx
[Vdare] This year's Oktoberfest is the 183rd Munich beer festival, and Germany's new Muslim diversity requires more security precautions than earlier occasions. Sadly, Munich reports fewer reservations and some locals say they won't go. Hostile Islam and German beer drinkers pose a rather large culture clash.

Who can blame them? The threat of jihad attacks can really take the fun out of big events that are supposed to be celebrations of freedom. France has cancelled a number of public gatherings because of the fear of muslims mass murdering, so the Germans are at least going forward, although with far more police attention.

Why Putin Fears Clinton
And why he is cheating to elect Trump?
[DallasNews] If Hillary Clinton is elected president, the world will remember Aug. 25 as the day she began the Second Cold War.

In a speech last month nominally about Donald Trump, Clinton called Russian President Vladimir Putin the godfather of right-wing, extreme nationalism. To Kremlin-watchers, those were not random epithets. Two years earlier, in the most famous address of his career, Putin accused the West of backing an armed seizure of power in Ukraine by "extremists, nationalists, and right-wingers." Clinton had not merely insulted Russia's president: She had done so in his own words.

Worse, they were words originally directed at neo-Nazis. In Moscow, this was seen as a reprise of Clinton's comments comparing Putin to Hitler. It injected an element of personal animus into an already strained relationship. But, more importantly, it set up Putin as the representative of an ideology that is fundamentally opposed to the United States.
Clinton had ideology?
To Russian ears, Clinton seemed determined in her speech to provide this missing ingredient for bipolar enmity, painting Moscow as the vanguard for racism, intolerance, and misogyny around the globe.

The nation Clinton described was unrecognizable to its citizens. Anti-woman? Putin's government provides working mothers with three years of subsidized family leave. Intolerant? The president personally attended the opening of Moscow's great mosque. Racist? Putin often touts Russia's ethnic diversity. To Russians, it appeared that Clinton was straining to fabricate a rationale for hostilities.
Always having a crisis on hot-standby?
Let's not mince words: Moscow perceives the former secretary of state as an existential threat. The Russian foreign-policy experts I consulted did not harbor even grudging respect for Clinton. The most damaging chapter of her tenure was the NATO intervention in Libya, which Russia could have prevented with its veto in the U.N. Security Council. Moscow allowed the mission to go forward only because Clinton had promised that a no-fly zone would not be used as cover for regime change.

Russia's leaders were understandably furious when, not only was former Libyan President Moammar Gadhafi ousted, but a cellphone recording of his last moments showed U.S.-backed rebels sodomizing him with a bayonet. They were even more enraged by Clinton's videotaped response to the same news: "We came, we saw, he died," the secretary of state quipped before bursting into laughter, cementing her reputation in Moscow as a duplicitous warmonger.
I'm not yet totally convinced about the warmonger part.
I'd go with functional psychopath. But that's just my opinion.
Her temper became legendary in Moscow when she breached diplomatic protocol by storming out of a meeting with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov just moments after exchanging pleasantries. And the perception that she is unstable was exacerbated by reports that Clinton drank heavily while acting as America's top diplomat - accusations that carry special weight in a country that faults alcoholism for many of Boris Yeltsin's failures.

Moscow prefers Trump not because it sees him as easily manipulated, but because his "America First" agenda coincides with its view of international relations. Russia seeks a return to classical international law, in which states negotiate with one another based on mutually understood self-interests untainted by ideology. To Moscow, only the predictability of realpolitik can provide the coherence and stability necessary for a durable peace.
And Clinton likes it for the 'Putin stole the election for Trump' aspect.
Cultural differences in decorum have made the situation worse. In Russia, where it is considered a sign of mental illness to so much as smile at a stranger on the street, leaders are expected to project an image of stern calm. Through that prism, Clinton has shown what looks like disturbing behavior on the campaign trail: barking like a dog, bobbing her head, and making exaggerated faces. (To be clear, my point is not that these are real signs of cognitive decay, but that many perceive them that way in Moscow.)

Hildebeest campaign: ‘Nothing short of a disaster'
[Wash Times] The repercussions just keep rolling in: Hillary Clinton’s recent decision to call Donald Trump's fans a "basketful of deplorables" has turned into "nothing short of a crisis" for the Democratic presidential nominee, says veteran pollster John Zogby.

Ah, but it gets worse. "The entire fainting and pneumonia issue is nothing short of a disaster," he continues, noting that the distress and drama of Mrs. Clinton’s health challenges have prompted voters to ask visceral questions about her truthfulness and judgment.

"This has all been badly done. New polls have come out that show Clinton down 5 points in Ohio, down in Florida, New Hampshire, Nevada and Iowa -- and none of these polls reflect more than just one day’s sample. A new CBS Tracking Poll now shows her leading Trump 42 percent to 40 percent. I probably shouldn’t speculate, but I suspect she will lose a few more points," Mr. Zogby continues.

"But the real crisis here is how she gets back on track. She will most likely have a good debate performance on Sept. 26. But then she still has to deal with the 'deplorables' thing because of what it reveals about her and her supporters. And then the release of her emails in October. She is in a tough spot."

YOU MAY BE DEPLORABLE IF....

A round of applause for Boston Herald columnist Howie Carr, who reaches out to those who support Donald Trump, otherwise known as "deplorables" these days. But how do you know if you're a proud deplorable? A partial list of Mr. Carr's suggestions:

Former Klingon Chief Gates: Trump 'unfit to be commander-in-chief'
[SeeBS] Former Defense Secretary Bob Gates savaged Donald Trump in a Wall Street Journal op-ed published Saturday, declaring the Republican presidential nominee "unqualified and unfit to be commander-in-chief."

"At least on national security, I believe Mr. Trump is beyond repair," Gates wrote. "He is stubbornly uninformed about the world and how to lead our country and government, and temperamentally unsuited to lead our men and women in uniform."

He offered some gentle criticism of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, urging her to be more candid on how she’d deal with China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran. He also suggested she suffers from "credibility issues" on national security and transparency,
Ya think?!
but he argued she "has time before the election to address forthrightly her trustworthiness, to reassure people about her judgment."

Why won’t the world tackle the refugee crisis?
Absolute first-class hand-wringing from the Guardian. What they and the rest of the progressive whingers miss is that 1) it's bloody difficult and expensive to move all the refugees to the West 2) the refugees don't really want to "assimilate" in the West (indeed, some want to conquer their hosts) and 3) it's better to fix the underlying problem(s) that led the refugees to want to leave their homelands in the first place.

Especially fix the underlying problems. But then the Guardian editors are Europeans, and they've learned to live with problems rather than solve them.
