WAPO: Drudge May Have ‘Put People's Lives At Risk' By Questioning Hurricane's Strength
[Daily Caller] Washington Post weather editor Jason Samenow said Matt Drudge may have risked the lives of "vulnerable Floridians" by questioning Hurricane Matthew's strength Thursday.
Teachable moment: If you do not heed the media, you will all surely die.
Samenow, who also serves as the Capital Weather Gang's chief meteorologist, attacked Drudge in an article entitled, "Drudge Report’s playing down and politicizing of Hurricane Matthew was "deplorable."

He wrote that the Internet muckraker's comments about the hurricane were "not only infuriating to meteorologists who knew the dangerous storm was holding its own, but it may also have put people's lives at risk."

#1  A Fox News anchor made startling predictions about the destruction Hurricane Matthew may cause as it continues along the east coast of America.

Popular presenter Shep Smith used strong words to implore Florida residents to evacuate before disaster strikes.

He said: "This moves 20 miles to the west, and you and everyone you know are dead — all of you — because you can't survive it.
"It's not possible unless you're very, very lucky. And your kids die, too."

#2  An indication that Fox News is not what it used to be is the fact that this Chicken Little daily continues to spew his nonsense. It is too bad that Ailes doesn't combine with Limbaugh and Hannity (and other interested parties) to put their money where their collective mouths are and create a new television news service.

#4  A Bing search for "Hurricane Matthew fatalities" turns up results of 0 to 4 fatalities. The same search on gurgle turns up 3-6 fatalities. At least two were people killed by falling trees, according to the articles returned in the searches. Each death is a tragedy, who knows how avoidable any of them was. No mass extinction event in any case, media hysteria notwithstanding.

#11  I saw that Beso; I think Pat rolled his eyes as best he could. I think there was another time but woman and wife.

But that is a game show, and marketed as such. Too many people tune into entertainment news thinking that the bobble heads are giving news reports instead of what they are really doing; entertaining the viewer to stay on the channel for ratings.

Chicken Little (I like that) is the scabies of entertainment news.

#12  The whole industry; I was watching a knock down baseball game, and the commenters for almost the entire half of the inning were lamenting the failure of the Metros to get past the wildcard. They were rooting for the home team - New York.

We get tv stations trying to out spectacular each other during tornado season. When the media gets into spectacular mode it is healthy to step back and take a look for yourself.

This Week in Guns: October 8th, 2016

By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

I don't get much humor out of following firearms prices and issues relating to the 2nd Amendment. There is very little cheer in that department, but sometimes I get a tiny chuckle delivered by the left.

Hollywood film actress Sarah Jessica Parker expressed the fear that she and her husband will be shot by Trump supporters.

Only by way of return fire, sweetie.

And surprise, a federal judge all the way out in the Marianas Islands has overturned "a ban on carrying handguns in public, a ban on so-called assault weapons, caliber restrictions for long guns, a $1,000 tax on handguns, and a requirement that all guns be registered with the government."

According to the linked article, the judge, identified as Ramona Manglona, has undermined a previous appeals court decision that allowed what I term draconian restrictions on firearms, such as those passed in California this year.

Whether her ruling stands, it should be noted that if you are waiting for the courts to hand you a constitutional carry permit, you will be waiting for a long, long time. The courts are not friends of firearms owners, not by a long shot, and it would take decades of favorable rulings to change that.

Meanwhile, you'll excuse me while I save up for this firearm.

Loads.

Rantburg's summary for arms and ammunition:

Quarterly ammunition price reports are noted, albeit a week late. Prices are steady on the high side for pistol ammunition, while prices are steady to the low side for rifle ammunition. The changes are very small. I expect to see prices waft upwards as the Christmas holidays approach, but I don't see a major change due to the nationwide clown show.

Prices for pistol ammunition were steady. Prices for rifle ammunition were mostly steady.

Prices for used pistols were mixed. Prices for used rifles were mixed.

It should be noted that prices for used pistols are up nationwide. You won't see it in this data compilation since this column focuses on lower priced pistols, but I get the impression that there is upward pressure on prices for higher quality pistols (especially on 9mm and .40 S&W).
