-Short Attention Span Theater-
Ernie's story
"There’s a process that every kid goes through. Crawl at nine months, walk at 12 months, and then start talking and so on. With our son Ben we began thinking: ’Why is he not crawling? Why is he not walking? Why is he not looking me in the eye?’ Things like that. We soon discovered he was quite profoundly impacted by Autism.

"One in 68 children is affected by Autism and that was perhaps the most shocking thing about all of this; the number of people it affects. It hits the whole family hard. For a long time you are trying to figure out ’What just happened to my life?’ You feel sorry for yourself and for your kid and for your family. And the tragedy is that even in this day and age, the kid who has Autism is often forgotten about. The feeling is that he’s almost a waste of time, which says a lot more about society than it does the child. It’s heartbreaking.

Ben’s condition was the main driving force behind our decision to relocate our base from Wentworth to Florida. The move has benefits for my golf, but more importantly we have been able to secure a more intensive form of therapy for Ben. And he’s doing great. He might act and say things a little differently from other kids, and he obviously has some difficulties, but he understands everything we say and is particularly in tune with our emotions; it’s almost like a sixth sense. And thank God he’s got such a nice nature. He’s a very friendly, very happy, very shy kid and the more loving attention he gets and the smiles that he sees, the better. Samantha, his older sister, is great with him.

"Liezl and I are private people, but we are also very much in the public eye and we recognize that this gives us a platform to help raise funds and awareness for the causes of Autism and its possible treatments. It is something that we both feel very passionate about. We established our Els for Autism Foundation in the spring of 2009. My first goal was to help create a Center of Excellence, based in Florida, a model for the world of what should be available to children on the autism spectrum. The Center broke ground in the spring of 2014 and we welcomed our first students in August 2015, which was a proud and exciting day for all of us. Please click here to read all about this incredible facility.

"Years from now people may remember me as a golfer and a major champion. But I’d like also to be remembered as somebody who took the issue of Autism and did something with it. The rest of my life, I’ll be fighting this thing...I hope you’ll join with me. Thank you." ‐ Ernie Els

#2  Not crawling may be a contributory diagnostic but on its own is not a bad thing.

#3  Good to hear Ben has been helped by intensive therapy: results are so inconsistent and unpredictable. One of our grandsons has been similarly helped, but another "too soon to tell." VERY expensive - unaffordable to most, and often only limited government or insurance aid available.

#4  I've seen Ernie at a tournament - classy guy; treated fans very well as he walked to the clubhouse after a 'disappointing' round.

'The Adults Are Back in the White House': Gorka Praises Trump's Admin Picks
President-elect Donald Trump continued to fill out his administration Friday, announcing he will nominate Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions for attorney general, Kansas Rep. Mike Pompeo as director of the Central Intelligence Agency and Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn as national security adviser.

Dr. Sebastian Gorka appeared on "Fox & Friends Weekend" this morning to share insight on what these picks tell us about the direction of our country, particularly when it comes to national security.

Gorka said that anyone who voted for Trump because they have concerns about terrorism, border security and radical Islam can "rest easy."

"The grownups are in charge," Gorka said. "The adults are back in the White House in the cabinet."

He explained that Flynn is an extremely experienced general and a true "soldier's soldier," Sessions is a leading proponent of tough immigration enforcement policies, and Pompeo has an amazing resume, graduating first in his class at West Point, editing the Harvard Law Review and serving on the House Intelligence Committee.

"This is an amazing start for America," Gorka said.

#1  I AM now throwing all my weight behind Donald Trump. Actions speak louder than words. I Pray many help turn the rafts around from the riskey shoals they have been led into.

He needs help being outnumbered by the administrative state. I AM asking with humility he is granted it.

#2  If I see malingering and sabotage from the idiot commies running this idiot government, It's time to throw a flag on their play. I see it starting already.

#3  His ME and or Nork tests are coming. My guess is there will be unannounced, but very decisive bitch slaps.
Posted by: Besoeker || 11/21/2016 7:47 Comments || Top||

#4  Glad there are adults coming back to government. We suffered through a era of boneheads fostering division and stirring up trouble--leadership from behind nonsense. IMO it will take awhile to clean up the mess left behind; Trump is a skillful guy and maybe it will be cleaned out up before we know it tho some of the speedbumps are making noises.

IMO Trump will deal with the ME and Norks quickly and decisively too. ISIS will fade away with a bit of help. So far, he has done a good job in considering and selecting appointments who can and will do what is needed.

#5  Sad thing is I remember the same "adults in charge again" bit when W took power and stacked his admin with experts. Then they bumbled into Iraq with minimal long term game plans beyond hopeless optimism about Arabs. I hope these adults learned from those adults.

#6  The media certainly haven't change since Bush, and show no sign of changing their stripes after their recent monstrous humiliation.
Posted by: Bobby || 11/21/2016 13:30 Comments || Top||

#7  The media WILL NOT change. They cannot, to do so would be an admission that their entire world view and what it is based on is false. They would have to abandon their religion.
Posted by: Spinesing Gray3122 || 11/21/2016 15:02 Comments || Top||

#8  Yes, the media will not change but they will go broke taking that course. Many ignore them now. I just hope the Republicans don't listen to them as their council is out of sync with America.

The Annual NYT Column - How To Ruin Thanksgiving
Every year, it's the same thing - lecture your relatives from the left.
Here’s what we learned after the ugliest presidential campaign in modern times.

The voters you blame, whose ballots -- for Clinton or Trump -- so mystify and offend you, are not a distant, unfamiliar America. They are sitting across the dinner table, or the office cubicle, or the bed. They are your parents, your siblings, your friends.

Who wants to have that tough conversation, about why they voted as they did and about how it makes you feel? Just about nobody. So we avoid it. But like it or not, these people are in your life. The holidays are upon us. And deep down, you may actually want to have this talk. You may need to have this talk.

A Handy Guide For Liberals Who Are Suddenly Interested In Gun Ownership
[Monster Hunter Nation] That title isn't joking. This post is aimed at my liberal readers. I'm a libertarian leaning Republican and gun expert, who thinks you are wrong about a lot of stuff, but I'm not writing this to gloat about your loss. For the record, I disliked all the presidential candidates.
You're not alone there, Mr. Correia.
Judging by your social media over the last few days many liberals have been utterly terrified that your government might turn tyrannical or that evil people will now be emboldened to hurt you. I'm going to let you in on a little thing the other half of the country is familiar with to keep those unlikely, yet catastrophic, events from happening.

And that my lefty friends, is 2nd Amendment.

Having just gone through a war against a tyrannical government, the Founders understood that governments can go bad, so they made sure to note our God given right (or we'll say naturally occurring right, since a bunch of you are atheists)
(so are some on the right side of the aisle, Mr. Correia, and also some in the middle, but that is a quibble compared to your main point)
to keep and bear arms in order to defend ourselves. The 2nd Amendment isn't about hunting or "sporting purposes", it's about having weapons that you can fight with. As an added bonus, being able to protect yourself from a tyrannical government means that you're a lot better equipped to deal with any common criminal who decides to hurt you.

Before I get into the details about how to enjoy your newly discovered 2nd Amendment rights, let me just say that I get you're sad, angry, bitter, and fearful. But just like my people over the last few elections, you'll get over it. The really hyperbolic freak outs about Literally Hitler make you sound just like the Alex Jones crowd worried that Obama was going to herd Christians into FEMA camps last time. So take a deep breath and relax. Your friends and neighbors are the same as they were last week. The vast majority weren't voting because racism, they voted against the status quo and a really unlikable Democrat. And no, they aren't going to round you up into cattle cars.

But in the off chance they do, let's get you prepared!

#1  Why not use assault d!ldos?
Posted by: gorb || 11/21/2016 3:45 Comments || Top||

#2  I know many of you are scared of guns, but just think of them like fire extinguishers, but for murderers.

I'm keeping that one.
Posted by: Bobby || 11/21/2016 7:26 Comments || Top||

#3  Maybe in time, these lefties will even come to appreciate the 2nd Amendment.
Posted by: JohnQC || 11/21/2016 9:28 Comments || Top||

#4  Don't hold your breath, John. They are statists loving little tyrants and having the 2nd amendment keeps them from having complete power over your life.

#8  Why not use assault d!ldos?

I'd probably get stuck humping in the batteries. The bigger lads always got the extra batteries and ammo.
Posted by: Besoeker || 11/21/2016 15:26 Comments || Top||

#9  To pick up a gun to use it, you have to be prepared to 'die on that hill'. I don't recall a lot of the Left who are inclined so, but they're more than willing to fund others (see - thugs) to do it for them. Only works till the thugs start losing and then decide there are better things to pursue in life than being cannon fodder.

What Iran—Yes, Iran—Can Teach America About the Fight for LGBTQ Rights
This is Slate so you can imagine the article without having to go there. I did both and I was right: it's all about "Trumpism" and importing all the horrid things the mad Ayatollahs do to LGBTQXYZ folks. At least Slate is willing to acknowledge that something about Iran is bad, which is more than they usually do.
