Deaf Ukrainian woman released from Lugansk custody
On 29 July following her 16-day illegal captivity, the occupation authorities of Luhansk released Liudmyla Surzhenko, a hearing-impaired civilian woman, and expelled her to the Ukraine-controlled settlement of Stanytsia Luhanska. Ms.Surzhenko was detained at a checkpoint of so-called Luhansk People’s Republic (“LNR”) on the line of demarcation in eastern Ukraine on 13 July when attempting to return to her occupied home town of Luhansk from the government-controlled territory.

In captivity, operatives of LNR’s “Ministry of State Security” tortured her to get false confessions of spying for Ukraine out of her. A Ukrainian official is of the opinion that Ms.Surzhenko has been released because her relatives, volunteers, and other activists raised the alarm that she had gone missing. Ukraine prepared appeals to international organizations and courts.

Republicans and the Lost Art of Deterrence
h/t Instapundit
In a perfect and disinterested world, when Washington, D.C. is deluged in scandal, a nonpartisan investigator or prosecutor should survey the contemporary rotten landscape. He would then distinguish the likely guilty from the probably falsely accused--regardless of the political consequences at stake.

In the real cosmos of Washington, however, the majority party--the group that controls the House, Senate, presidency, and U.S. Supreme Court--if it were necessary, would de facto appoint the government’s own special investigatory team, and then allow it to follow where leads dictate. Its majority status would assure that there were no political opponents in control of the investigations, keen on turning an inquiry into a political circus. That cynical reality is known as normal D.C. politics.

But in contemporary Republican La-La Land, the party in power with control over all three branches of government allows its minority-status opponents to dictate the rules of special investigations and inquiry--a Jeff Sessions recused, a Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) excused from his investigations of unmasking and leaking, a Robert Mueller appointed as special counsel, friend of to-be-investigated James Comey, and employer of partisan attorneys.

Is naiveté the cause of such laxity? Do Republicans unilaterally follow Munich rules because they hope such protocols will create a new "civility" and "bipartisan cooperation" in Washington?

The Wages of 'Collusion' Meme is Big Trouble
...As Clarice Feldman notes, the entire Democrat/Compromised Media fantasy over Russian "collusion" during the 2016 election has now collapsed, but the damage the Left has done to our nation purely out of pique over its loss last fall is becoming incalculable. Using their standard technique of "raising questions," they began a Narrative that has led to a falling-dominoes series of calamities that now threaten not only the Trump presidency, but also the very legitimacy of our form of government.

...The truth is, we've never witnessed anything like this before -- not, at least, since 1861. Back then, the Democrats made the fatal error of actually firing on Fort Sumter and waging a prolonged rebellion against the federal government under the first Republican president, Abraham Lincoln -- whom they later assassinated. That conflict resulted, thanks to Grant and Sherman, in the devastation of the South, and a century of poverty, backwardness and resentment. Eventually, the Democrats seized the civil rights movement as their redemptive vehicle, and somehow managed the trick (via the media) of convincing the rest of the country that they were never the racist, seditious, literally anti-American sappers they so obviously were, and still are.

Today, they wouldn't make the mistake of going to actual war against the country-as-founded. Just as they refused to accept Lincoln as the lawfully elected president, so do they refuse to accept Trump; if Lincoln was the first of his party to reach the White House, they mean to make sure Trump is the last. To use a favorite phrase of theirs: "by any means necessary." That's because the Democrat/Compromised Media Complex plays for keeps. And we don't.

Meanwhile, any hope of detente and strategic cooperation with Russia slips away -- thanks to the Democrats, who since Lenin have never met a Russian they didn't love. The sanctions, which only Bernie Sanders and Rand Paul voted against, also include a possibly unconstitutional provision to tie the president's conduct of foreign policy in the future, by making it impossible for Trump to lift them without congressional approval. Trump has said he will sign the bill, but let's see how long that provision lasts in court.

...And all this -- all of it -- because the Democrats cannot accept the results of the election. Now, however, they have the feeble-minded and weak-spined Republicans and impotent "conservative" Vichycons joining in the stampede; note in the CNN clip linked just above, host Anderson Cooper attributes the sanctions not to "corruption," et al., but to Russia's "interference in the election, among other issues." The case may have factually cratered, but the meme itself will not die until it's fully exhausted for propaganda purposes.

They never stop, they never sleep, they never quit. It's long past time to start fighting back -- not necessarily to defend Trump the man (for the Democrats and the Compromised Media, there'll be a distracting "scandal" a day, forever) but to defend Trump the president, his office, the validity of our electoral system, and the proper workings of the federal government in its task to uphold the Constitution and defend the nation from all threats, foreign and domestic.
IMO: (i) It is not just Democrats - it's the New Class; (ii) It has already passed the stage of "ours, give it back!" and rapidly reaching the stage of "If we can't have it, nobody shall have it!"

#1  The Democrats are like the little kid in the classroom who farts and then points at someone else. The Democrats are up to their eyes in the 3- Cs: Collusion, Corruption, and Criminality while at the same time they point at everyone else as the guilty parties.

India-Pakistan
Waiting for justice
[DAWN] While the country obsesses over the course of justice as it plays out at the highest levels, there is little capacity to consider how it is typically meted out in our country. Last week, while we awaited the Supreme Court verdict on the Panama case, reports emerged that a panchayat in Muzaffarabad, in the Multan area, ordered the rape of a 16-year-old girl to settle scores after her brother was accused of raping a 12-year-old girl. The teenager was raped allegedly before the 40-odd members of the panchayat and her parents. Several days passed before the girls’ mothers lodged FIRs, and the police began to arrest panchayat members.

Media coverage of this informal act of justice got the formal wheels of justice turning: the chief justice has taken suo motu
...a legal term, from the Latin. Roughly translated it means I saw what you did, you bastard...
notice of the panchayat ruling, Shahbaz Sharif
