Jackson Lee: House Members Will Have to Start 'Flooding' the Senate to Get Gun Control
Contrariwise, if they don’t get a veto-proof majority in the Senate, there won’t be gun control.
[PJMedia] Rep. Shiela Jackson Lee (D-Texas) said members of the House of Representatives would have to start "flooding" the Senate in order to get gun control measures passed.

"I don't know what else it takes but I don't believe we can stop at the door of the United States House. I believe there will have to be an emergence of members of the House flooding the United States Senate for Senator McConnell to understand that these initiatives today, my gun storage bill, my bill that I've introduced dealing with the caliber weapon, I've held an AR-15 in my hand, I wish I had it. It is as heavy as 10 boxes that you might be moving and the bullet that is utilized, a .50-caliber, these kinds of bullets need to be licensed and do not need to be on the street," she said recently on Capitol Hill.
She has never held an AR-15...

#1  I'm no gun expert but I'm 1,000% sure the AR-15 doesn't fire a .50 round. Early lead for the Dumbest Democrat of the Week Award.

#6  Average AR weighs about 6.5 pounds. So she hasn't lifted many boxes either. No surprise there. OTOH I'm sure her bag man knows what $10k cash weighs with his eyes closed.

#7  As for specialty caliber ARs, what a waste of time. If you want to shoot hogs, get an AR 10 and be done with it. Better variety of ammo and more reliable. If you are going after dangerous game like big bears, the last thing you want is a compromise round designed to feed in an AR receiver. Get a 375 H&H or 300 Win Mag and put Smokie down humanely.

#8  But the idea of AR - 15 shooting Barrett rounds, MM!!!

Incidentally, anybody has an idea how long would it take a competent gunsmith to turn an AR - 15 into a fully automatic?

#9  All knowledge of the AR-15 style weapon, which I happened to be reviewing yesterday. A couple of interesting factoids:

From 2000 to 2015, the number of manufacturers of AR-15 style variants and knock-offs increased from 29 to about 500.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation has estimated that approximately 5 million to 10 million AR-15 style rifles exist in the U.S.

#10  Not a topic to go on record about, G. But lots of things are easier than hitting a good sand wedge. There are 50 cal BMG semi autos but the mag well alone is as big as an AR lower. It's purpose built and that's a good thing. A 50 BMG round is a lot of remedy.
Posted by: M. Murcek || 09/17/2019 8:03 Comments || Top||

#11  The main question is "would I want to be shot with (name your caliber)?" I'd really rather not be shot with a 17 HMR or above. I might survive but I might get to carry my intestines around in a bag after that. Not a fan of that lifestyle.

#12  the number of manufacturers of AR-15 style variants and knock-offs increased from 29 to about 500.

Of course they did. AR's are like Legos for adults. What's not to like... other than the .223/.556 thing?

#14  Eh, lots of 223/5.56 upstream ain't a bad thing. Hell, bullet technology has made the 380 viable. I've got a tactical AR with a 24" barrel in 6.8 SPC (270 cal, God's own caliber if you buy into Jack O'Connor's gospel.) It does a job. At range.

#15  #9 I've read the same article but I do know that good gunsmiths can do wonders - so, what's the answer to my question?

p.s. Not that I'm an adherent of automatic fire - my instructors in basic had very definite opinions on the subject.

#16  Still think it's better left undiscussed on the record. But I imagine if you had a contest some guy would win with a Wrigley's gum wrapper in under a minute. No it would not be reliable but a great proof of concept.
Posted by: M. Murcek || 09/17/2019 8:57 Comments || Top||

#17  g(r)omgoru there are some pretty easy ways someone with minimal metalworking skill can do to make an AR automatic.

I wouldn't recommend it as not only it is illegal, but the civilian AR isn't designed to sustain a heavy firing cycle for an extended time. The AR will jam pretty quickly.

Trump Spurns Dems On Universal Background Checks
[HotAir] President Donald Trump will not consider the House-passed universal background checks bill as part of his proposed gun package, according to a source familiar with the conversation on guns.

Trump’s position on the House-passed bill is not exactly a surprise. The White House issued a veto threat against the bill in February.

New York Times excoriated for omitting bombshell Kavanaugh details
*Snicker* Never were consequences more deserved.
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] The New York Times

...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

has been excoriated after publishing new allegations of sexual misconduct against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh only to later add a bombshell update that undercuts the entire piece.

The Saturday evening report was adapted from an upcoming book by news hounds Robin Pogrebin and Kate Kelly titled The Education of Brett Kavanaugh: An Investigation, due out this week.

Their report details an alleged incident that occurred during Kavanaugh's time at Yale University. One of his classmates, Max Stier, said he witnessed Kavanaugh make inappropriate sexual contact with a female student.

In the updated version of the article, the following passage was added, "The female student declined to be interviewed and friends say she does not recall the episode."

"An earlier version of this article, which was adapted from a forthcoming book, did not include one element of the book's account regarding an assertion by a Yale classmate that friends of Brett Kavanaugh pushed his penis into the hand of a female student at a drunken dorm party. The book reports that the female student declined to be interviewed and friends say that she does not recall the incident. That information has been added to the article," it continued.

The update, which many viewed as evidence that exonerates Kavanaugh, caused significant blowback for the outlet.

Kavanaugh faced similar allegations during the lead up to his confirmation to the Supreme Court. Three separate allegations became public during that time period. Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who accused Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her in 1982, testified in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee, as did Kavanaugh.

#1  At what point does this pass into the territory of reckless disregard with malicious intent?

They knew that this was not corroborated: it's their own journalists' book, which the NYT reviewed.

They knew that pumping up this story would feed other news organizations' hunger for slander, and that it would be picked up and run with by the Dem presidential candidates and possibly become fodder for impeachment talk.

They have obviously, clearly shown malice toward Kavanaugh from day one, slamming and smearing him relentlessly with baseless attacks on his character, his manner and demeanor, even his background.

Rep. Ilhan Omar on Netanyahu: ‘His Existence... Is Contradictory to the Peace’
When peace means submission, sure. But you know what, you little bint? Molon labe. You can get in line behind the five armies of the Arabs, who failed, and all the jihadis of the various factions of Palestinians financed by the USSR, the EU, the U.S., the UN, and Iran’s Mad Mullahs over the years, who also failed.
[CNSNEWS] The very "existence" of Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "is contrary to the peace," Rep. Ilhan Omar
...Somali-American Dem representative from Minnesota. She is apparently married to her brother and may be her own grandmaw on her mother's side...
(D-Minn.) said Sunday in an interview with CBS’s ’Face the Nation" Host Margaret Brennan.

Commenting on Netanyahu banning her from visiting Israel and his bid for reelection, Omar said that she hopes the people of Israel will "recognize that his existence, his policies, his rhetoric is contradictory" to achieving a peaceful "two-state solution" in the Middle East.

Joe Walsh: GOP is a 'cult' and Trump a 'would-be dictator'
You must be having loads of fun fundraising, dude, given that Rasmussen’s daily tracking poll has President Trump slightly ahead of Barack Obama at the same stage of his presidency and, ya know, Barack Obama was reelected.
[THEHILL] Former Rep. Joe Walsh (Ill.), one of three Republicans challenging President Trump in 2020, called the GOP a "cult" and the president a "would-be dictator" as he denounced the decision to scrap primaries in some states.

"I’ve given up on the Republican Party, the Republican Party is a cult, right. They no longer stand for ideals. The Republican Party right now is all about washing their leaders' feet every day, that’s what they do," Walsh said Monday on CNN.

"We’re going to take our campaign directly to Republican voters ‐ and I’ll add in all 50 states. We’re gonna campaign in all 50 states, we’re gonna campaign in South Carolina, Arizona, Nevada and Kansas, because I believe if we let these Republican voters know that the president of the United States just took away their right to vote they’ll march on the headquarters of their state parties to get that right to vote back," he said.

State party officials have said the canceled primaries in several states including South Carolina and Arizona are an effort to save costs and use that money for other races.

State parties of the same political party as the incumbent president have canceled nominating processes in the past.

Walsh, though, said the canceled primaries are different this time "because it's never been done when there's been primary challengers."

#5  This does seem as if it would have been a good time for the GOP to get a bunch of candidates to run as sane Democrats. Not in the Presidential race but most other races. If any get traction its a huge win.

Use the Democrat tactics against them, and I'm pretty sure this is a well worn Democrat tactic.

What's your view of Avigdor Lieberman? Should he have pulled his stunt over the Haredi draft bill? Will a Blue White coalition pass that bill?

Home Front: Culture Wars
Aide to freshman Virginia congresswoman Abigail Spanberger calls Trump-supporters 'irreedeemable, white trash pieces of s---
[AmericanThinker] Gordon "Max" Heyworth worked with the congresswoman at a consulting firm after she left the CIA in 2014. He joined team Spanberger in 2017, where his Linkedin page describes his duties as developing communications, fundraising, crafting position statements, coordinating social media campaigns, and writing Spanberger's nomination and victory speeches.

According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, Spanberger and her Washington press secretary followed Heyworth's Twitter posts. Did they turn a blind eye to his savage attacks on various Virginia state delegates, senators, President Trump, and his supporters? Only after the Times-Dispatch exposed Heyworth's tweets did Spanberger unfollow Heyworth, who uses the handle "Woke Mr. Plow." As of last Friday, his Twitter account has been deleted.

#1  What grips me is that these people don't understand that Trump is their last hope. If he fails, the deplorables will be using the "progressives" for target practice.

#2  Lots of people believe the will isn't there anymore, that the people have had all that beat out of them. They fail to realize that we have simply been quitely seething, waiting for them to cross a final red line before something happens. If the Democrats win, I suspect they will do something that is going to trigger something nobody wants. Many still hope that we can vote our way out of this. I don't know anymore.

#4  They really do want a civil war (which by historical record is anything but civil).

#5  The huge irony is the left would have to hope for foreign intervention on their side in a real civil war. Who's going to do that? Russia and China have the motives but no way would they directly intervene. No way the Pentagon could allow that. So who steps up for the left in such a scenario? Mexico? Canada? The EU? (oh cripe I just got a stitch in my side from laughing...)

#6  I can see it all now:

"Man the digital barricades!"
"Uh, dude, someone shut off the internet."
"Well let's go get some refreshments."
"What do you mean the craft beer and avocado toast has run out?!?"

#7  Incidentally, Freshman Democrat Abigail Spanberger rode the "moderate" train in 2018 to oust conservative Republican Dave Brat in Virginia's 7th District.

In every pre-election interview and town hall, Spanberger touted her CIA background as a unique qualification in matters of national security. She promised to engage in civil discourse in her dealings with Republican members of Congress. She stayed far away from the "A" (abortion) word, sanctuary cities, and illegal immigration, couching her responses in the usual political double talk. The strategy worked, and it was due largely to one of her earliest supporters and trusted aides.

#8  Re #7. Many people want to be lied to. But they like to call it "their truth."

I'm pretty.
My breath does not smell.
I can save for retirement later.
I never make bad choices. (Well except for Bob, but I wound up with half his stuff and the black eye got better. The replacement tooth almost matches the rest...)

So you see what we are up against. Also Brat was the guy who beat Eric Cantor. Virgina is muy screwed up...

#9  I see a civil war being very short. But a lot of lefties refusing to accept they lost because there ws no battle, their side just quit. Black gangs didn't turn out to fight, they surrendered for food. That sort of thing.
Posted by: ruprecht || 09/17/2019 8:39 Comments || Top||

#10  I disagree. Who ever dominates the stabilization will face an extended insurgency till it gets really nasty to end it (See - Iraq and Palestinian insurgencies). You got to remember a lot of Deep State to include the judiciary will be in the Left's corner, enough to undermine efforts of the Constitutionalists.

#11  In real world action rock and scissors always beat paper. "What do you mean you don't respect muh authoriteh?"
Posted by: M. Murcek || 09/17/2019 10:14 Comments || Top||

#12  Any time they spend trying to get the UN and EU involved is time wasted. All you need are people who know they will be executed if the lose on the other side.
Posted by: M. Murcek || 09/17/2019 10:16 Comments || Top||

#13  Red states and counties have the food and the guns. Even if folks continue fighting for decades 99% of any conflict will be over very quickly without a lot of gunplay.

My only problem is that hard lessons aren't really learned in that sort of scenario and so the problem will re-appear again and again.
Posted by: ruprecht || 09/17/2019 10:16 Comments || Top||

#14  Hard solutions are a necessity. Comsymp mass elimination will focus "independents" minds.
Posted by: M. Murcek || 09/17/2019 10:19 Comments || Top||

#15  I'd say make sure the cares that execute academics are all black. "But, but, I belong to BLM!" Bang.

#18  Perhaps time we all review history of Spanish Civil War
Posted by: Rex Mundi || 09/17/2019 13:29 Comments || Top||

#19  Agreed, Rex. No good outcomes there. Or here, if we wind up going that way.

#20  #13 Red states and counties have the food and the guns.

The peasants of the Soviet Union and China had most of the food in their day as well.

What matters is recruitment and organization of talent, tools, will and ruthlessness.

So far, the left is ahead on most of those factors.
