Panamanian strongman Manuel Noriega, Tango Uniform at 83
[WAPO] Gen. Manuel Noriega, the Panamanian strongman and onetime American ally who was toppled from power in a 1989 U.S. invasion and who spent more than two decades imprisoned on drug dealing and conspiracy convictions, has died. He was most likely 83.

The cause of death was not announced but Gen. Noriega had been in intensive care at a hospital for months after complications from surgery to remove a benign brain tumor.

Panamanian President Juan Carlos Varela announced the death on Twitter Tuesday morning, saying that the passing closes a chapter in the country’s history.

A career military man, Gen. Noriega led the Panamanian Defense Forces from 1983 until President George H.W. Bush ordered the invasion on Dec. 20, 1989, which followed months of deteriorating relations between Panama and the United States.

Gen. Noriega was a polarizing figure for decades after he was led in chains from Panama by U.S. marshals on Jan. 4, 1990, to a federal prison in Miami.

Portland mayor calls for feds to revoke permits allowing Pro-Trump rallies. "Hate speech is not protected"
Posted by: DarthVader || 05/30/2017 09:41 || Comments || Link || [8 views] Top|| File under:

#1  Two things:

a) This isn't hate speech (unless we go by the metric that you hate it)

b) Even hate speech is protected speech

The left will just send Antifa anyway. If they can't control it, they will attempt to intimidate it.
Posted by: DarthVader || 05/30/2017 9:44 Comments || Top||

#2  Notice the revoking of permits only applies to those of the opposition - conservatives. The June 4 Antifa event will be allowed to go on as planned. Important to consider that the murders did not take place during any "event" but the Dems moved immediately to impugn and entire ideology, as always.
Posted by: Rex Mundi || 05/30/2017 9:54 Comments || Top||

#3  And the murders were committed by a Bernie supporter who voted for Jill Stein. A real right-wing loon. NOT.

#4  Don't worry about the definition of hate speech. They will tell you what it is and you better not argue with them...not in Portland.

#5  The mayor of Portland, Oregon, on Monday urged U.S. officials and organizers to cancel

Some questions occur:

Would local federal officials so openly go against their boss, the president?

If they did, what odds they would find themslves on the wrong side of President Trump's promise to downsize federal staffing by 20% through hiring freezes, retirements, and attrition?

Or, given that this is a federal responsibility, and the feds aren't much interested in the opinions of local politicians, how likely is it that the honourable mayor of Portland is merely posturing for effect?
Posted by: trailing wife || 05/30/2017 11:38 Comments || Top||

#6  Is the venue federal property? The origianl article doesn't say. Otherwise, does the federal government often deal with permits at local venues?
Posted by: rjschwarz || 05/30/2017 12:59 Comments || Top||

#7  Yes, the park is federal property. Which is most likely why the organizers have the event there since Mr. Fuckstick and his 1st Portland Brigade of Assclowns would have denied a permit anywhere else.

#8  When do we get to call mayors like this "the enemy" rather than pretending we're all on the same side?

RU ambo told Moscow that Kushner wanted secret communications channel with Kremlin
BLUF: [WAPO] Ambassador Sergey Kislyak reported to his superiors in Moscow that Kushner, son-in-law and confidant to then-President-elect Trump, made the proposal during a meeting on Dec. 1 or 2 at Trump Tower, according to intercepts of Russian communications that were reviewed by U.S. officials. Kislyak said Kushner suggested using Russian diplomatic facilities in the United States for the communications.
How very strange. Platte River Networks of Denver, CO. provided discreet, global, back-channel communications to the Clintons for years. Apparently no one noticed or said anything.
The meeting also was attended by Michael Flynn, Trump’s first national security adviser.

Kushner’s apparent interest in establishing a secret channel with Moscow, rather than relying on U.S. government systems, has added to the intrigue surrounding the Trump administration’s relationship with Russia.
No real 'intrigue' but rather the exposure of a much larger classified documents and communications security (COMSEC) problem.
Moved to P. 6: Seedy Politics because that's what the Washington Post is playing at.

#4  I wonder if they got the idea from Obama's secret channel when he did the Iran nuclear deal.

Seems as though I remember Soetoro sending special, rather secretive representatives to conduct face-to-face discussions on the Iranian deal. Soetoro always preferred the 'back nine' for more intimate discussions here at home. Clandestine monitoring and unauthorized leaks 'be hard' on the 'back nine.'

Russian ambassador, Herb McCoy7309. It took me a while and many, many questions, to learn the lingo, too. But afterward one knows more than one did before, always a good thing. ;-)

Question: if President-elect Trump and his son-in-law-cum-advisor Jared Kushner wanted to smoke out the leakers in the intelligence community vis-a-vis the Russian nonsense, how would they go about it?

Senator McCain says Putin bigger threat than ISIS
US Senator John McCain said Russian President Vladimir Putin is a bigger threat to global security than ISIS, and warned that the Senate would push for sanctions against Moscow for its alleged interference in the US election.

#9  We don't have to be friends with Putin but we should at least be pragmatic enough to recognize that we have certain things in common with him and we for damn sure don't need a shooting war with him.

It's extremely difficult for me to say this but I have concluded that America dodged a bullet in the 2008 presidential election. As bad as Baraq Obama was, McCain would have been worse. He's a war monger and a dangerous mad man. It's bad enough having him in the Senate.

#14  The stories I have heard involved, all but beginning with "Now, this is no S**t..." like any salty Sea Story was that: Russian Intelligence Officers, sat in on interrogations, may have assisted with same, and possibly some of our ELINT specialists were 'disappeared' and reported as 'presumed KIA/No Body'... Stories, but they could certainly be something inhabiting the back of McCain's mind.
Posted by: magpie || 05/30/2017 12:47 Comments || Top||

#15  Russians sitting in on interrogations was a very common story back in the day. Clancy even used it as a sub-plot in one of his novels.

This maps into the Russian pilots flying some of the migs in 'nam and Korea as well. That is something that may have gotten to McCain, if he thinks the Russians shot him down........

Lindsey Graham says James Comey was 'incredibly incompetent' to 'interfere in election over fake Russian intelligence'
  • [Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News] Graham spoke about reports Comey acted on fake records created by Russian that made it appear as though the DNC colluded to end Clinton email probe

  • Fake Russian intelligence claimed there were emails that compromised then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch in relation to the Hillary Clinton email scandal

  • Former FBI Director James Comey knew the information was fake, but still acted

  • 'If he intervened in the election based on fake information generated by the Russians, that was incredibly incompetent,' Graham told CNN Sunday morning

#1  Wonder if the cabin recorder was on for Bill and Loretta's meet?

#2  It would be a lot shorter list if it was comprised of things Comey did that were competent.
Posted by: gorb || 05/30/2017 1:21 Comments || Top||

#3  Nothing at all to do with competence. It's a sort of a 'space-time continuum' strategy. Moving in all directions, over an extended period of time enables confusion and frustration. The higher number of marbles rolling around on the kitchen table, the more difficult it becomes to keep them from falling off. The unstated goal of course is to get certain marbles to 'fall off' and be forgotten.

Truth is fairly simple and straight forward. Trickery, confusion, and obfuscation require time to reach full maturation.

#5  "DNC colluded to end Clinton email probe"

So what was Clinton and Lynch's meeting about on the plane a few days before the CLinton email probe about?
This "news" sounds more like someone trying to obscure.
a) was there No collusion
b) Is there proof the documents were fakes
c) any evidence as to who created the documents

Creating false evidence is one way to try and cover your tracks.
Posted by: Bright Pebbles || 05/30/2017 4:36 Comments || Top||

#6  So Comey acrted on fake information but chose not to act on real information (private server with classified information). Comey is plenty competent just more political.

#7  Incredibly incompetent? Actually, he has been really competent at being a gatekeeper and door stop--not so much at stopping corruption and bringing justice to scallywags.
