Texas Voter ID Law Upheld on Appeal
h/t Instapundit
A panel from the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans, in a split decision, stayed the district court’s granting a permanent injunction against enforcement of certain sections of the Texas Voter ID law. Those protesting the law, claimed it was unconstitutional because it would prevent, or at least deter, voters without a "valid form of ID" from voting. The Fifth Circuit, in a surprising turn, not only applied the law to the issue before it but they also applied common sense.

#1  Getting an ID is very hard for undocumented aliens ... guests.

#2  It's not so much an ID, IMO, as it's multiple voting - remember all these stories from 2012?

#3  They blame it on everything. My favorite is "They can't afford to go into town to get an ID." But they can afford to go into town to set up welfare benefits, etc..

#4  "They can't afford to go into town to get an ID"

Amazing that the statement is used for many things that constitute 'hardships' incurred by some.

Although they'll walk miles through a blizzard to get to a liquor store or an OTB/Lottery storefront.

#5  If you want to buy alcohol, tobacco, or get a check cashed a personal ID is mandatory -- go figure.

Clinton book: Not going after Comey 'was a mistake'
[The Hill] Hillary Clinton believes that it "was a mistake" for her to not go after FBI Director James Comey during the 2016 election, according to a newly released excerpt from her upcoming book "What Happened."

Clinton wrote that she wanted to "hit back hard" at Comey for calling her "extremely careless" for using a private email server as Secretary of State but that her campaign advised her against it, according to excerpts of the book published by The Daily Beast Wednesday.

"My first instinct was that my campaign should hit back hard and explain to the public that Comey had badly overstepped his bounds ‐ the same argument [Deputy Attorney General] Rod Rosenstein would make months after the election," Clinton wrote.

"That might have blunted the political damage and made Comey think twice before breaking protocol again a few months later. My team raised concerns with that kind of confrontational approach."

"In the end, we decided it would be better to just let it go and try to move on. Looking back, that was a mistake."

Comey later reopened the investigation into Clinton’s use of private server weeks before the election as part of the investigation into Anthony Weiner's underage sexting scandal, which Clinton wrote caused longtime aide and Weiner's then-wife Huma Abedin to "burst into tears," in a previously released excerpt.

"What Happened" is set to be released on Sept. 12.

#1  Sure, Hillary. We all believe you, Hillary. Try again in 2020 after the smoke clears and see how far you get.

#6  You have to understand that when a Clinton says the word 'hit' - it means something entirely different then what you think it means. Just ask Seth Rich and dozens of others...

#9  In all seriousness, who cares what this pathetic excuse for a woman thinks about anything anymore, her inner-circle and the "true-believers"-- which are akin to cult members-- notwithstanding?

No Republican or Conservative cares enough to buy her book. Most, if not all, "Feel the Bern" Democrats or Liberals don't care enough to buy her book. What remains are Clintonian insiders, sycophants, and bottom-feeders (aka the ruling class), many of whom will probably receive a free copy for their years of loyal service.

Which all begs the question, who is going to pay good money for this joke of a book? I predict not many.

I have no idea what kind of advance she received but I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be a poor business decision. Of course, LAMe (the Liberal-Academic-Media complex) will fail to acknowledge or learn from it, as they've been doing for decades now.

#11  You know about those T-shirts they print for both Super Bowl teams declaring them champions, and then they ship all of those T-shirts of the losing team to Africa for the kids? That's what's gonna happen to most of the copies of this book.

#12  Which all begs the question, who is going to pay good money for this joke of a book?

I was back in Michigan last week and the local paper reported that a visit by Cankles to Grand Rapids was sold out.

So what kind of people? Stupid, really stupid ones, and she is the best thing the GOP has going for it right now concerning mid-terms....

#13  Eltoroverde, the way I understand it, the standard plan is to have the DNC buy enough copies to pop it onto the best seller list. At that point sales are nearly assured. The DNC would then give the things away to donors.

It will be telling if the DNC doesn't buy up a ton of her books and it just flops.

#14  There's a typo in the book title, they left out the question mark at the end.

Obama Made Dreamers Eligible For Federal Giveaways and Large Tax Refunds
Liberals claim that so-called "Dreamers" are not a burden on the economy or the budget, but that’s not quite true. It is true they are not eligible for food stamps or welfare, but they definitely are eligible for major benefits, especially huge tax refunds ‐ even though they may have paid no taxes.

The reason is that Obama made them eligible for Social Security numbers that allows them to collect disability and SSI benefits. But maybe the most valuable benefit they get is tax refunds. Let’s say a Dreamer has four children. The Dreamer would get $1,000 dollars apiece for each child and an Earned Income Credit that could amount to $6,269. That means the Dreamer could add up to $10,629 a year, every year.

According to the Daily Caller, which performed a fact-check on the subject:

Illegal immigrants are ineligible for most public benefits according to federal law, including means-tested programs like Medicaid, food stamps and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Notable exceptions include emergency medical care and federal disaster relief.

But DACA allows recipients to apply for social security numbers, which are required to claim the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), a major tax benefit for lower-income earners. The program allows recipients to participate in Social Security and Medicare as well, but they generally cannot receive benefits until retirement age.

Generally speaking, DACA recipients are still ineligible for many forms of public assistance. Nonetheless, the program does expand access to some federal benefits.

There is another major problem with Dreamers inasmuch as they can get a driver’s license using their Social Security card and can register to vote using just their SS card. It is also almost impossible to catch them if they vote illegally. There are at least 800,000 Dreamers. You do the math.

In New York state, they grant benefits to eligible Dreamers:

What public benefits are non-citizens with deferred action eligible for in New York?

Non-citizens granted deferred action are considered "permanently residing under color of law" (PRUCOL) and are eligible for all state funded benefits, including Medicaid, Family Health Plus, the Family Planning Program and for cash assistance (welfare) through the Safety Net program.

Once an individual can provide proof that a request for deferred action has been filed, (s)he is eligible to apply for New York’s medical health insurance benefits even before a decision is made by USCIS. To be eligible for cash assistance, however, the person must wait until USCIS actually approves the request for deferred action. It should be kept in mind, though, that the receipt of cash assistance, unlike medical assistance, can raise public charge concerns if the individual at some later date becomes eligible to apply for permanent resident status.

Non-citizens with deferred action are not eligible for any federal public benefit, including federal financial aid, food stamps, housing subsidies, and the Pre-existing Condition Insurance Plan Program. They will not be eligible to purchase health insurance through the federal Healthcare Exchange when that becomes operational in 2014.

No wonder so many illegals come into the country. It’s like waking up in the morning with a money tree in the front yard.

#2  This must be what the dreamers were dreaming about--all the free boodle.

Our kids are not referred to as "dreamers" by the politicians. Why not? We did not slip across the border illegally and have anchor babies (dreamers). Why do so many people want to come here (probably the boodle and opportunities)? We are, apparently, in the minds of many politicians so inferior culturally, that we must: 1. Create diversity programs, 2. Recognize other cultures as being superior to ours, 3. Not require assimilation, and 4. Not require illegals to wait in line to become citizens.

Nominee’s Religious Faith Dominates Senate Judicial Confirmation Hearing
[DAILYCALLER] “Stunningly, Barrett has asserted that judges should not follow the law or the Constitution when it conflicts with their personal religious beliefs,” AFJ claims. Legal academics have strongly disputed this characterization of her position.

Feinstein signaled sympathy with those concerns, and referenced a law review article that Barrett wrote in 1998 entitled “Catholic Judges in Capital Cases,” which appeared in the Marquette Law Review. Barrett concluded that a Catholic trial judge who is a conscientious objector to the death penalty should recuse himself if asked to enter an order of execution against a convict. She emphasized that the set of circumstances considered in the article were narrow, and that she participated in death penalty cases as a law clerk at the U.S. Supreme Court.

“When you read your speeches, the conclusion one draws is that the dogma lives loudly within you,” said Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, the ranking Democrat on the panel, of Barrett’s writings regarding the professional obligations of Catholic practitioners.

#1  Isn't there something in the Constitution prohibiting religious tests for public office? Of course, the Constitution really doesn't mean much to the Congress critters anyway unless it suits their purposes.

It's only for Democrats.
Posted by: Raj || 09/07/2017 13:25 Comments || Top||

#3  Besides, the "religious test" in those days meant that you couldn't discriminate against Lutherans over Presbyterians, for example. Catholics were (and still are) fair game.
